Clint Eastwood gave an unforgettable performance before Mitt Romney took the stage at the Republican National Convention in August, but many viewers were disappointed that the rumors of a hologram version of President Ronald Reagan taking the stage were untrue.
But next year, we may get a glimpse of the Gipper-gram!
The New Republic has the back story on the idea and the controversy surrounding its rumored appearance at the RNC in August.
The Reagan hologram was the idea of Ohio Web developer Tony Reynolds, who is a fan of the 40th President and his focus on small business. Reynolds was looking for a way to promote his crowd funding web site, and draw attention to the JOBS Act, which was signed into law by President Obama in April.
The JOBS Act passed through Congress with bi-partisan support, and Reynolds wanted to call on politicians to work across the aisle on similar legislation by using a Reagan's speech that "advocated freedom for small business."
So why a hologram?
Reynolds says the hologram resurrection of rapper Tupac Shakur (WARNING: foul language) at this year's Coachella music festival inspired him. He reached out to AV Concepts, one of the companies involved in creating the Tupac hologram, and collected donations to fund the project through his web site, A KickIn Crowd.
Despite the rumors, the Reagan hologram was never going to endorse Mitt Romney. He wasn't even scheduled to appear on stage, but rather was set to speak outside the convention center.
But Reynolds, a registered independent, didn't want the hologram's speech to be viewed in a partisan light, nor did RNC organizers want Reagan to overshadow their candidate, and the event was scrapped.
TNR reports that Reynolds is finalizing the hologram with plans to debut it next year, but will not give out any other specifics.

Oh gees now they gone and done it, they dug Reagan up out of his grave and put him up on a pedestal.
The funny part is if he were alive today he'd be voted out of office by the nutcase 'baggers. I mean, how much FOS can you get?
I know right ignore the man and run the myth. Why in a hundred years the Reaganites will be claiming Reagan pointed his Finger at the USSR and it came crashing down.
There were even plans for a while to add Ronald Reagan to Mount Rushmore, and put his face on the dime...
Ronald Reagan should have been impeached for treason because he violated Posse Comatatus by putting military in charge of air traffic control after he fired the civilian air traffic controllers that went out on strike to protest obsolete World War II radar equipment still being used at the time.
when all else fails, especially if the repub presidential candidate is not up to par, bring in the gipper.
its a shame when the dead leader of the repub party overshadows the living one, mitt romney.
but then again, what LIVING repub can live up to THEIR god, THEIR savior, THEIR annointed one, THEIR star of "bedtime for bonzo"?
Ronald "Alzheimer's" Reagan.
Bedtime for bozo.
They should have had Clint talk to him in another chair.
If that were to happen, I would be very tempted to walk up to Clint and give him a sock in the jaw...
I always want to strike a happy medium...
The Legacy of Ronald "Alzheimer's" Reagan:
If this is your hero ........ then OMG!!!
In all reality. Reagan wasn't so great. He raised taxes, broke the air traffic union, several members of his cabinet were investigated, the savings and loans took a big hit with indictments, etc. So I question how great he really way. I am glad I did not vote for him.
The Tea Party Republican Party of today would throw Ronald Reagan out in a heart beat. They would call him a "moderate" and worse, he would be ostracized from the party, treated like a crazy uncle. They hold him out to the current public as a "saint" and use him in every way they possibly can, and lying about his true accomplishments that they don't agree with while also lying about how he would react to current issues. Ronald Reagan was not the "great one" everyone seems to think, he made a lot of terrible decisions, raised taxes, busted unions, raided social security, stumbled threw most of his time in office repeating whatever Nancy told him, acting like a President is not like being a President.
Just for the info: The reason Paul Ryan [Mini-Mitt] drank so much water during the debate is because his pants were on fire! His remarks were so practiced, so pat, and so patently false, and should have scared the hell out of voters in general, especially all women.
I still can't believe this election is "close" because it reasonably should not be. The economy the President inherited was the worse in history, and now it is soooooo much better, not perfect, but BETTER. What do voters want from him? He saved the auto industry, he saved the economy, he killed BinLaden and most of his cohorts, he gave the American people the best health coverage ever offered to millions, he has fought for Social Security, MediCare, Medicaid and education, he has made it possible for millions more to go to college or training programs, he has fought to keep the Republicans from destroying every government program that helps children, seniors and the poor, and his stimulus program which should have been even bigger if not for Republican push back, saved homes, retirement savings, and so much more. All these things he has done, and he also stopped the war in Iraq, while ending the Afghanistan War in 2014. Did he save everything for everybody, no, did he get jobs for every body, no, however part of the reason more was not accomplished for the American people is because the Republican Congress fought and stopped him at every turn. The Republican Congress wants to get rid of Social Security, MediCare, Medicaid and have been quoted as saying they want to destroy the President and trim government down small enough to drown in the tub. Now the man who referred to 47% of the American people as basically bums, and the fellow who referred to 30% of the American people as takers, who lie incessantly, have no plan they want to share with America because they know their plan is to devastate 98% of the American people and take care of their friends in the 2% and smart voters would never want them to win. I just don't get it!! What are people thinking, or are they thinking? Has society become so bitter, bigoted, racist and hate filled they no longer can see the forest for the trees? Wake up America, don't put a rich man that is part of what is wrong with America, and a fully committed follower of Ayn Rand, in the White House. If you do I know you will live to regret your choice. By the way, Ayn Rand really was a Russian communist who hated America and especially hated government, She particularly hated social security and medicare and spoke against it everyday of her life, except when she turned 65 and filed for both social security and medicare for herself. Ayn Rand was just another hypocrite like Romney/Ryan who had only disgust and disdain for everyone who is not Republican and rich. Wake up voters, before it is too late, and open your mind and your eyes to the facts. Stop allowing lies, and big money, to taint your decisions. Really look at where you are today and where you were under a Republican Administration in 2000-2008. It will be even worse under a Romney/Rand Administration. Make no mistake, this election is about every one in this country, about the future of America for years to come, maybe forever. I trust two men that I have watched work every day for every American, fought for the middle class, seniors and the poor, everyone. Those two men are President Obama and V.P. Biden, and they deserve your vote, they deserve my vote, and they have it.
The sad thing about this- as much as the republican party may idolize Regan, if he were alive now, they would ostracize him for not being to the far right! The Tea Baggers have turned the republican party into something Regan would not recognize, or probably even want to have anything to do with. Regan did raise taxes on the wealthy, and some of his policies were to help the middle class- something republicans now would decry as unamerican and unpatriotic! They don't want anyone to look too closely at what he really stood for, because it would show them as extreme and shallow, which is what the republican party has become! One can only wonder what Regan would think of the party of Lincoln now.....
President Reagan along with that no-account on FOX Ollie North are they not the ones who sold GUNS to IRAN, and with those same guns they shot our TROOPS. Enough about how great he was? Ollie North should have been tried for TREASON, and Reagan should have been IMPEACHED.
Not quite...
Ollie North sold weapons systems parts illegally to Iran, so they could maintain the aircraft and tanks they'd gotten when they kicked out the Shah...
He then took the proceeds from those sales and used them to financially back the Contras in Nicaragua... A move that had been specifically forbidden by Act of Congress...
Reagan defied Congress directly... He shared the opinion of Nixon. that, as President, any action he took would be legal, because, well, HE'S THE PRESIDENT!
yet reagan is their HERO, i have never seen such "blind allegiance", such "hero-worship" to a dead man, a dead man who raised taxes 11 times while he was president.
Reagan/Bush killed ANTI-TRUST and any regulation that kept industry HONEST. When Reagan/Bush came to power, the USA was #1 on the planet in exporting goods and importing raw materials. This is the very definition of a prosperous economy. By 2006, it is the exact opposite. Why? Years of Republicans selling out the American middle class, that’s why. The Bush’s and a Republican Controlled Congress (1994-2006) gave it up for a very few wealthy families.
And what did these elitists DO? Stall new technology, steal pension funds, move to China, India, Mexico. THIS while paying for those high priced, patriotic commercials, WE LOVE THE USA, THIS IS OUR COUNTRY, etc. BS! (when I snap my fingers you‘ll wake happy and refreshed… lol)
The Billionaire Aristocrats and their Republican Party flunkies have a LOT TO ANSWER FOR! These vain, self-serving, power-mad, greed stricken silver spoon con artists have turned the USA into the United Suckers of America.
