Obama America's President
To all you republican supporters:
I hope your annual income is at least $250,000, cause if you don't, you are not informed, and that is not really smart but plain STUPID! If you read or watch from materials coming from Republican articles shows are broadcast, its like listening to a scam artist on how they can make you send your hard earned money for nothing in return. Romney is the same party as Bush, why do you think Romney will be different. Pres Obama slowed down the economic disaster and in fact turned it around. Romney was caught on video dismissing 47% of Americans and will not offer any help.
Sandra from Canada: We should have kept our banks regulated under the 1932 Glass-Steagall Act that kept Wall Street investment banks separated from Main Street FDIC banks. I am sure the reason we had the 2008 Great Recession was because of this insane GOP supply side deregulation. The Graham-Leach-Bliley act was disaster for America. The GOP lied to Democrats that the market would regulate itself. The Federal Reserve had to give $16 trillion in loan guarantees because of the "too big to fail" banks on Wall Street selling highly leveraged mortgaged backed securities. Your country wisely kept its commercial banks and large investment banks regulated and separated. We would have been wise to do the same but Canadian governance is often on a higher plane than what we have down here.
Here is what I like about your country. I argue vehemently that the U.S. must do many of the same things your country has been doing for generations.
1. You have a Medicare for all health care system run through the provinces. Canada is a better and healthier place because of your health care system. It makes your country more "family friendly" for ordinary people like me and most other Americans.
2. You have year around school for your children. Canada has achieved number one status for its young adults aged 25-34 with college degrees or at least an associates. We Americans used to be number one in education. Now we are ranked 16th. This phenomenon is not good at all in the 21st century global economy.
3. Canadian society has much less gun violence than we do. I just bet that most of your gun violence comes from illegal guns smuggled from America. Canada still allows hunting rifles, and shotguns, but you have pretty much shutdown ownership of assault weapons and most handguns. As an American I do not know your laws exactly but I have read that they are strict but fair for hunters or target shooters. We need the assault weapons ban because mass shootings here are caused by semiautomatic guns with large 30 round ammunition clips. Our stupid American gun laws make us a "bad neighbor." I like British handgun laws: they don't have any unless you are a policemen. I own two handguns and keep the damned things locked up in a safe. I like target shooting but never seem to do it anymore. I guess 20 years in the Army burned me out on firearm ownership.
I was surprised to see the number of Canadians in the American Army. I am not sure why this happened but it was a fairly regular occurrence. Many times I think a lot of this was a Canadian man married to an American woman but maybe there is more here than I know. Canadian soldiers and servicemen also served in many of the places I was stationed. So I hope when President Obama is reelected, which he will, that Canadian and American relationships grow nothing but stronger. Maybe then American conservatives here will see regulation, year round school, Medicare for all, are good things for all people. Right now I am a helluva an optimist because many American conservatives don't believe in family planning or birth control.
Rex on this we can agree. Prior to the 1970 and 80's homes were financed by Savings and loan associations. Mostly not for profit. Like all financial institutions they relied on depositors to gain the funds to loan. regulation q kept a cap on what a savings and loan could pay to attract depositors. This was done to keep mortgages low. As inflation raised the interest rates banks were able to pay big interest to jumbo certificates of deposits and were able to draw money out of S and L's and into banks so banks were flush and made high interest rate loans while s and L/s were going under.
In a legitimate attempt to allow the s and l community to compete with banks for depositors the regulation Q and other separating legislation was removed. the S and L's were able to get money back their way and the money rolled in but at rates homeowners could not pay. So they began making Commercial real Estate loans but they had nobody on their staffs that knew the first thing about investment real estate and made billions in bad loans. It was 2008 but in commercial real estate so most people that got hurt were investors not homeowners when that melt down came.
The resolution trust which was the equivalent of TARP took over the properties and liquidated those toxic properties over time. There must be a new mechanism that keeps residential and commercial lending separate but allows neither to have an unfair advantage in attracting depositors.
Poor tc still can't grasp who got hurt the most, here is a clue tc it wasn't investors nor CEO's of banks.
Attention Celebrities like Steve Martin:
We need your help!
We need to bring out the facts to each State, to each citizen of the United States. They need to know which political party supports the middle class and the poor. Americans must know Republican Congressman of their state who opposed bills to promote jobs they are hoping to get. Its very sad that many Americans are misinformed of the Republican plan to put out as much negative news even false negative news to make sure Pres Obama only last one term. The effect of all these is negativity is causing small business owners to be afraid to spend money to hire and employ locally and customers to be afraid to buy and save their money causing less products manufactured or produced, resulting part of the slow economic recovery. I believe if Romney becomes the president, all these republican originated negative news will terminate. Let
If most Americans are informed, they will not vote Republican, more job oriented bills will be passed and help promote economic recovery. Another benefit is better health coverage can be imposed to employers, creating happy healthy workforce, and end product will be better customer service, satisfied customers, improve customer loyalty, more products demand and economic boom!
I believe if Republicans will become nice again like before if they know that Americans will not vote for them if their focus is just to make the rich, richer but to be fair to the small laborer as well.
More like Kelsey Grammer, Clint Eastwood, Jon Voight, Penn Jelette, Ted Nugent, Jessica Simpson< Adam Sandler,Chuck norris, Karl Malone, you know , the good ones.
You know the stupid greedy ones that tc admires because they are just like him, in tc's delusions.
Many republicans converted to democrats because they want to stay decent and they now belong to the less than $250,000 earners (They know they benefit on Obama policies). Who remains republicans? Only 2 types, the greedy and the dumb.
Oh wait! Maybe there are 3 types of Republicans instead of 2. The 3rd type are people on payroll to campaign for republicans but maybe its a subcategory of greedy, so maybe still 2 types. LOL
Just when did he realize he like moochers, he like poor people, he like old people, he like Veterans, Ah Shucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He like all people he said do not pay taxes. There he said it America. OK?????????????????? Did that work for Mitt????????????????? And best of all do you believe him?????????????????? Looking at the picture he took in the Mexican restaurant with the 3 Hispanics and the one Black person; only one in the picture appeared to believe him.
Mitt"Many Faces"Romney now claims to be for the 100%,well the 100% of what,he never said, but I think I have an idea of what, the 100% of profit for people like him and not the 100% of the people of America that he never said, pay attention it's not what he said it's how he said it,so 100% of what?
Let's be realistic, the unemployment rate is going down largely because of those who just dropped out of the workforce. I see it all around me, if you don't see it , you are blind. Just 3 weeks ago, I watched 570 Siemens wind generation employees get the pink slip while Vice President Biden gave a speech 20 miles away bragging about the surge in job creation. All smoke and mirrors. This is one Blue Dog Democrat that isn't buying it.
You are a lying not a blue dog you are just another run of the mill misinformed poster repeating whatever your GOP masters tell you to repeat.
The jobs numbers are legit. Yesterday, experts commented all day long about them and not one of them (those experts who would be held to their responsibilities)said they believed any tampering had occured. A few of them indicated the numbers could be slightly skewed because of the households that had been sampled. Some are saying that because of part-time hiring and folks retiring, the numbers look better. But those things are ongoing from month to month. That was going on last year at this time and the employment numbers weren't so good then. The bottom line is that overall hiring is up.
It's simply a time to be grateful that our country is pulling out of this mess we've been in for too long. We came too close to a real depression and I know I don't want to see that. My mother went to bed hungry back then. Her family had water-gravy for breakfast. You mix flour and water together. No milk. No bacon. No sausage. Her oldest brother walked for miles (and I don't mean two, it was more like nine) through the woods and across dirt roads to get to a road job. He supported the family. There was no father. She never owned any toys or a doll when she was a little girl. There were no funds for anyone out in the country. If you ate, you grew it or you found it in nature. If you didn't have tillable land, well, you had God. There was no one to help. The neighbors were just trying to survive themselves. The money was no where to be found. But today the money is coming back for those who have seen some of this.
I only hope that Republican lawmakers will come to their senses and stop being obstructionists to legislation that will further help the economy. It did not used to be that way. There was at least some cooperation to keep the nation going. If they do not wise up and if President Obama gets re-elected, they run the risk of being out of a job next election cycle. More and more Americans are getting educated about what's been going on in Congress.
On another subject, if I may comment about the lives of coal miners. I know many hundreds of them. I was a coal miner for decades. I do not believe that alcohol and coal mining go hand in hand. Of the seventy or so that I knew very well, only a couple were heavy drinkers. Some of them had a few drinks on the weekend--maybe a beer or two. Many of them are very religious.
Coal mining is inherently dangerous. It can be depressing. Yes, in winter you go to work in the dark, you spend the day in the dark, and you go home in the dark. And the next day is the same except that, with mining equipment, you have driven a little further into the blackness. There's a pretty good chance that, sometime during your career, you will be injured. You only hope that if and when it happens, you will recover.
I own an aluminum lunch bucket that belonged to a old timer from the mines. One day, he was standing near his bucket and the rib rolled (the side of the tunnel gave way and covered him with rock and coal from next to and above him). The bucket and his leg were mashed flat. His leg eventually healed. He somehow unfolded and straighted out his bucket. He returned to work months and months later. Another neighbor was covered in a roof fall. The old country doctor showed up at the mouth of the mine. He performed a minor operation on him with no pain killer. He inserted a hook into his chest and pulled his rib cage up off his heart and lungs so he could breathe. I had an uncle who worked in a mine that was so dusty that their noses stopped up. "You couldn't see your buddy who was 20 feet away." he recalled. They opened their mouths so they could get air. He died at age 61 with severe lung disease from mining.
But there is some satisfaction in the work. You can feel good about yourself in knowing you are doing honest work. And there is teamwork. Usually, all the players pit their skills together for the best outcome. It is generally a well-paid job. It is much safer today than in years gone past. There is a slight sense of patriotism in your work. It is a little like farming, you know you are doing something that helps the country. And you know that, somewhere out there, a few people appreciate what you do. And when it's all over, if you've been fortunate, you can retire with ten or twenty years of "the good life". That's not a bad trade-off when you consider that you live in a rugged, mountainous area where there are few other opportunities.
Coal mining is the kind of job that can make you decide about big questions like "Does God really exist?"
Politics is the kind of job that can make onlookers know there is a Devil. :)
Have a good weekend.
It can make you decide about big questions like "Does God really exist?".
The most important jobs report will be next month just before election. That report will confirm what we already know the President is doing the job and those in doubt just do not want to acknowledge that point. Jealous just plain old jealous. Now if the report comes in higher which I doubt then I will be asking Jack Welch who did he bribe to get those numbers higher because obviously he knows something we do not.
Yet I haven't heard a word about the idea that the closing of Oil Refineries in America (something the Republicans (and 1%) definitely have control of) which is said to be the cause of a Major Gas Price Hike so close to the election could be a ploy to make Obama look Bad as being a possibility. Maybe, I'm not supposed to notice this.
AHHHhahha, after all that hot smoke from the GOP/TP on how Mitt won the Debate, and how their Ship had a head of steam, only to get hit broadside by that 7.8% Torpedo looks like Capt. Romney boat is taking on water, and his engines are damaged.
thousands of new jobs are comming to louisville.will mitch mcconnell be upset?how will he explain this?is this a conspiracy?are we trying to hurt mitch?mitch is very upset because some good has begun to happen to kentucky while obama is still in office.mitch has failed his mission to destroy our economy and our people.since he said his only care was to destroy obama, whats left for him to care about?he never once cared about kentucky!
7.8 is better than 8.1 but 7.8 sucks.
Don't worry Obama will let you keep your food stamps and you won't have to leave moms basement.
No you degrade yourself daily with your foolishness that shows us you could never get a job let alone keep a job. People that display the personalities you display never last longer then 3 weeks at a job before the complaints come in about your nasty personality traits that grate on your co-workers nerves and they demand either you change or you leave which the boss will do because happy workers are good workers, you are not a happy worker and it shows.
Right we are supposed to take the word of a lying re reg who has been banned so many times going back 6 months. In fact you hold the record for being banned more times in one day then any other troll thats been banned.
The Caucus Room Conspiracy
October 6, 2012
While the pundits are talking about a fantasy conspiracy, here’s a real one:
On the night of January 20, 2009, while President Obama was celebrating his Inauguration, a group of 12 top Republicans was meeting for dinner at the Caucus Room Steakhouse.
The dinner was hosted by Newt Gingrich and Frank Luntz, their Minister of “Truth”. The group included Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, Pete Sessions, Pete Hoekstra, Jon Kyl, Tom Coburn, John Ensign, and Bob Corker.
In the four-hour meeting they strategized how to fulfill Mitch McConnel’s dream – make Barak Obama a one-term president. Since, historically, whether the incumbent president got re-elected or not depended on the state of the economy during the course of his term. So the plan was clear: block any legislation that would make Obama look good, especially bills that would create jobs.
Somehow, President Obama managed to get the stimulus passed – without a single Republican vote. Since then, Republicans have filibustered (the word comes from the days of piracy) over 300 bills, including the Transportation bill and the American Jobs Act. So the Republicans have cost the jobs of around three million people, the money their wages would have pumped into the economy, and the payroll taxes they would have paid. Our economy and our people have suffered, some tragically.
I hope someone totals up the actual cost to the country of the Republicans’ conspiracy, for that’s what their secret meeting surely was. As they left the meeting, Gingrich was heard to say, "You’ll remember this as the day the seeds of 2012 were sown."
--- Basic material from Robert Draper’s “Do Not Ask What Good We Do”
As a citizen and a former Republican, I am dismayed and disgusted at the un-American activities of these men and their callous disregard for the anguish of other people who have been trying to just feed their families all this time.
These conspirators plotted a stealthy overthrow of our economy and our government by cunning and lies. Some have called it TREASON. They were not just plotting against Obama. They were plotting against the American people.
Whenever people have complained about the dysfunctional Congress, no one has had the knowledge or courage to remind them that it’s all been part of the Plan. President Obama has been trying to do his job for all the People with one hand – or more -- tied behind his back. It’s a miracle that his administration has gotten anything done at all.
I’m confused as to why our punditocracy hasn’t yet loudly exposed these malefactors. If the Department of Justice were to just launch an investigation before the election…
Come on, Ed -- sock it to 'em!!!
did you know that bigfoot co chaired the meeting with Jimmy Hoffa?
These repubs are nothing more than a resurrected bunch of Crackers that want total control of everything and everyone for their own personal benefit and to hell with everyone else ! Oh and , Yes , I am white !
ED, one of my friends told me that mittsy used a cheat sheet.can you check the tapes on the debate and see if this is true.
Already debunked robme pulled a hanky out of his pocket which he later used to wipe his nose with. Maddow already talked about it. As much as I dislike robme I refuse to sink to tea bagged republican tactics to start false wars when robme provides more then enough ammunition to destroy himself.
he kept notes of what Obama said so he could respond. Note taking is what intelligent people involved in a debate do.
Right robme kept notes so he could keep his new lies right while playing blue dog democrat. That was not a debate it was a robme lie fest where robme lied so much his nose grew 6 inches.
bubblegum
Hard working Romney:
Republicans really work hard to craft their lies just to get their way. It involves research. Now that’s a difficult job! The lie-o-meter is all the way up whenever its Romney's turn!
