As the presidential candidates prepare for Wednesday's debate, Vice President Joe Biden spoke about the "buried" middle class, prompting the Romney campaign to suggest the President's policies are to blame. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
The first presidential debate is tomorrow night in Denver and Mitt Romney is finally revealing a plan to pay for a $5 trillion tax cut.
"As an option, you could say everybody's going to get up to a $17,000 deduction; and you could use your charitable deduction, your home mortgage deduction, or others - your healthcare deduction, and you can fill that bucket, if you will, that $17,000 bucket that way,” Romney told a Denver TV station last night.

I made 70K last year and my itemized deductions were 15K, my mortgage is only 125K not even close to what a home costs today. The interest on a 300K home can be around ~17K per year on the west coast and a 300K home is not a Mc Mansion. Basically the middle class would be screwed again.

Not Reagan or the Bushes have what this president accomplished, especially given the all-out resistance from the GOP in congress. Middle class Americans have been deteriorating in constant dollars ever since the end of the 1973 Yom Kippur war, the Arab oil embargo, and almost a decade of stagflation leading to the awful recession of 1979-80 which was almost as bad as the recession of 2008. God help you in the 1980's if you were looking for work because in the Midwest there was no work anywhere. America's middle class has never recovered from the disastrous convulsions of the 1970's. We have been wandering aimlessly ever since. Sure Bill Clinton helped create 23 million jobs but America's middle class has just not been the same since the 1970's.
Romney almost has to have a perfect debate performance tomorrow. President Obama is careful and prepared so I expect few mistakes from him. This election is headed towards a landslide pretty soon because Romney's big money donors will pull their cash out of his campaign if he does not perform real well. Even if Romney is flawless it is going to be very hard to win over independent women and Hispanic voters in swing states. The GOP has deeply angered these voting constituents with their war on women and filibustering of the Dream Act. These were fatal errors for the GOP because they swung too far to the right winged ditch and are stuck there.
Plus, Rachel Maddow and Ed reported that the firm registering Republican voters in five important key swing states of Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, and Nevada has been fired by the RNC for submitting false documents to voting authorities in ten counties in Florida. This is potentially a disaster for the GOP.
Whether Mitt does well tomorrow or not this election is about over with except for his concession speech. Mitt has to worry about losing his big campaign contributors. Super-PAC donors are already leaving Romney because the political pro's know Romney is a shipwreck waiting to happen. Mitt Romney is not Harry Truman. Truman was respected by people once they got to know him because he had empathy for people and was honest. Mitt Romney has no such qualities in fact is more like Thomas Dewey than anyone wants to believe. Maybe someone should read Psalm 23 for the Romney/Ryan ticket as they march to the cemetery.
One good thing about the debate, we'll find out why Obama refused to give added security to those Americans that were killed in the terrorist attack on 9/11/12 even though the begged for it.
