Republican running mate Paul Ryan drew boos today at an AARP convention in New Orleans when he said Mitt Romney would repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which closed a gap in coverage for seniors' prescription drugs.
"The first step to a stronger Medicare is to repeal Obamacare," Ryan said to a chorus of boos. "I had a feeling mixed reaction so let's get into it."
Ryan continued (with a typical smirk): "It weakens Medicare for today's seniors and puts it at risk for the next generation (more boos). First, it funnels $716 billion out of Medicare to pay for a new entitlement we didn't even ask for (more jeers). Second, it puts 15 unelected bureaucrats in charge of Medicare's future."
President Barack Obama rebutted Ryan's charges in a live video appearance to the same audience. He said the Republican voucher prescription for Medicare would mean "billions in new profits for insurance companies"and higher out of pocket costs for seniors.

Most older people have a grasp on their finances and aren't fooled by the Republicans. I wouldn't think that many who need their Medicare will put their health and lives in danger or let some snake oil salesman fool them. Ryan was lucky to get out of there without needing a walker himself. If I would have been there he would have gotten some rotten eggs and some mushy tomatoes! What a creep! PAUL RYAN IS A LYING BASTARD. AARP has done extensive research on the ACA and found it to be THE BEST FOR SENIORS IN MEDICARE. The ACA will enhance the Medical Benefits for Senior on Medicare, The $716, Billion that the POTUS CUTS went to the Plan B (you no longer pay for co-pay when you visit your doctor or have preventive medical attention) and Plan D where you can choose independently where to get your prescriptions for lesser amount. (Closing the donut hole) These A$$holes wants the CUTS TO GO to their rich friends, the INSURANCE COMPANY and give you vouchers for $6,000 a year when your medical bills are way more than that...and the other lie they are telling you is, the $716.00 of the POTUS CUT will pay for the ACA a blatant and dishonest LIE. The money has been put back by POTUS to our Medicare Plan B and Plan D already. These A$$holes has no conscience for the welfare of Seniors. Ryan is not only a radical, he is downright dangerous. Seniors will have to pay $6,000 more annually under his proposal along with his "voucherization" of Medicare. Too many Americans rely on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Democrats need to circle the wagons and protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid at all costs. Raise taxes if you must but never cut services. The Affordable Care Act actually strengthens Medicare in the long run extending its life for nearly another 12 years. We need to strengthen Medicare by having a Medicare for all public option. More people paying into Medicare will strengthen it and give us universal coverage. Also, a Medicare for all public option would still allow private ownership of hospitals. All the government would run is the financing of the health care system while most of the rest of the health care system remains in private ownership or privately run. A Medicare for all public option is a modest proposal that will give universal coverage and stabilize health care costs.
Senator Sanders is correct in saying that we need to take Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid off of all discussions for cuts to balance the budget. The major cause of our one trillion dollar plus budget deficit are the Bush tax cuts and the two wars. Until we eliminate for the Bush tax cuts for all Americans, raise capital gains taxes to 30% or even 40%, close corporate tax loopholes, and trim military spending we will have trillion dollar budget deficits as far as the eye can see. If we need to give further aid to lower income Americans in exchange for the measly Bush tax cuts we can modify the earned income tax credit or other types of measure to help those in poverty. I am not opposed to helping the needy with a food stamps/SNAP, job retraining, or rent assistance etc. But, I will be damned if we need anymore welfare large corporations in mature industries or for the millionaires and billionaires who keep money in the Cayman Islands and pay a measly 15% federal tax rate.
