The Republicans managed a stunning victory in the Senate today, narrowly defeating a bi-partisan $1 billion bill designed to help 20,000 post-9/11 veterans to find work.
All but a handful of Republicans voted (58-40) to kill the bill on a procedural objection. That’s all it took. They beat it by two votes.
Support for veterans is traditionally bipartisan. In fact, the Senate had recently passed a series of smaller measures to expand the G.I. Bill.
So Democrats were feeling good about the Veterans Job Corps bill. They also had the support several Republicans including Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada and Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts.
And let’s face it. The Democrats also have the facts on their side when it comes to the need for helping veterans.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports 8.3% of veterans were unemployed in 2011. Young male veterans are hit the hardest by joblessness. Male vets aged 18-24 who served during the post-9/11 era are burdened with a 21.9% unemployment rate.
The Veterans Job Corps bill was ready to put those young men to work in the nation’s parks or on local fire fighter crews or police squads across the country.
The legislation is loosely fashioned after the Civilian Conservation Corps which put veterans to work during the Great Depression. The bill had the support of dozens of groups, from fire fighter associations to the Foreign Legion.
Jobs for vets. Sounds like a terrible idea, right?
But Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma led the Republican charge to kill the bill. Coburn says the bill costs too much and violates Senate rules for funding. Coburn called the bill a “political device” and asked his fellow Senators if they have the “…character to sacrifice our political careers and the willingness to do what’s in the best, long-term interest of the country”.
Well, the Republicans proved they did have the “character” Coburn talked about and they killed the Veterans Jobs Corps Act.
As Senator Patty Murray (D-Washington) argued before the fateful vote, “Putting our service members back to work is the cost of war.” If you judge by this vote, most Republican Senators don’t seem to think our vets are worth the price.

The Vets are only important to republicans to get votes, not for their actual service to this country. Their vote today proved that......
You can phone the "senators" to voice your opinions:
"senator" John Boozman 202-224-4843
"senator" Mike Johanns 202-224-4224
"senator" Richard Burr 202-224-3154
"senator" Pat Toomey 202-224-4254
These four cowards practically co-wrote the bill. They were allowed to add all the republican garbage they wanted to the bill in an attempt by Democratic legislators at bi-partisanship. THEN--the voted against the bill. Remember the the republican definition of "compromise" is that the Democratic Party give republicans everything they demand and get nothing in return.
So-phone these four great lawmakers. Let them know what cowards they are. By the way, NONE OF THEM HAS EVER SERVED IN THE MILITARY.
In fact, why not flood the phone lines of all the republican senators who have demonstrated such tyranny, treason, and cowardice for these past two years.
Boehner was just on the Capitol steps repeating ad nausem that this election "is about jobs." But we know it isn't true. Millions of tax payer dollars have been wasted by republicans voting over 30 times to repeasl the Affordable Care Act.
Over 30 pieces of "legislation have been put to votes by republicans to make abortions illegal, to redefine rape, to give the government power to insert an electronic probe into womens' vaginas.
That's the entire republican legislative record for the past four years.
NOT ONE JOBS BILL PRESENTED BY REPUBLICANS. But republicans voted unanimously to block President Barack Obama's jobs bill. And now, the "jobs, jobs, jobs" republicans have AGAIN blocked a bill that would give jobs to VETERANS. If Romney is elected, we'll have more of the same and, as Bill Clinton warned us, we'll have more of it on STEROIDS.
Be careful--Romney's doing more campaign appearances now, and in the last day he's changed his tone. Now he's speaking softly. He's telling voters that he's going to be president for the 100%. Of course Mr. Etch-a-Sketch is lying. It's what he does. But low information voters will hear this, they'll recoil at his repetition of the word "redistribution"--even though neither he nor they know what it means. He'll convince them that passing laws that create jobs for veterans is an "entitlement" program, just like he's got them snowed about Social Security--something that we all pay for--is just a dangerous government give away to people who won't take personal responsiblity for their own lives. He's convincing the most vulnerable Americans to vote against their own interests, to vote against their own well-being. We need to do more to refute, rebut, and rebuke the Romney/Ryan/Republican lying machine.
i saw the clip of boehner responding to questions about the 47% by saying this election is about "jobs".
i immediately thought of our servicemen, and the bill that was filibustered yesterday by the repubs.
like the constitution, our servicemen and vets are only a "prop" for the repubs. they proved that yesterday, ONE MORE TIME.

Senate Republicans Stop Vote On Vet Jobs Bill
Senate Republicans effectively killed a measure to find jobs for unemployed veterans on a procedural vote Wednesday, after several attempts by Democrats to keep the bill on the table failed.
Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., raised a point of order against the bill on Wednesday, citing alleged violations of Senate budget rules. Since three-fifths of the chamber did not vote to waive the rules, the legislation cannot move forward.
The point of order was the latest in a string of obstacles designed to derail the bill, which would have created the Veterans Jobs Corps by setting aside $1 billion in federal grants to give veterans priority for jobs that might require military skills, such as in law enforcement or fire safety. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., briefly filibustered the legislation last week in an unrelated attempt to withdraw aid to Pakistan.
Paul's move came after the bill's sponsor, Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., agreed to incorporate an alternate version put forth by Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., in a last-minute effort to make the bill as bipartisan as possible.
Veterans issues often enjoy bipartisan support in the Senate, but because this legislation was a major priority for the Obama administration and its main sponsor, Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., is stuck in a tough reelection fight, some Republicans objected to the legislation on the grounds it was another campaign talking point to boost Democrats in the polls.
Republicans refuse to put their politics aside once again. Pitiful!
It also is proof that they think Like Romney to a "T".
This country has no more solemn duty than caring for those who have fought for our freedom. Our military men and women put their lives on the line, and their families make tremendous sacrifices, to preserve the liberties we enjoy. They have earned help finding a job when they return home
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for post-9/11 era veterans is almost 11% -- well above the national average.
Our veterans deserve more than that. We owe them more than that
The Veterans Jobs Corps Act of 2012. Although the bill passed the first hurdle in the Senate last week on a 95-1 vote, sadly just yesterday, an obstructionist minority killed it on a procedural vote. Yes, we were just 2 votes short from keeping this important bill alive. But don't give up, and you can help urging Congress to send this veterans jobs bill to the president without delay.
The Veterans Jobs Corps Act will invest in our veterans and help ease their transition back to civilian life with increased job training and career opportunities.
It would give our veterans a new chance to serve here on the homefront through prioritized placement for first responder positions many already have training in, like law enforcement, firefighting, and as emergency medical technicians.
In addition, veterans would also be trained for jobs in conservation and resource management, to help rebuild America through the restoration of our forests, parks, coasts and public lands.
And the Veterans Jobs Corps Act is fully paid for. This is a practical solution that lawmakers should be able to agree on, regardless of election year partisanship.
Help me send a message to Congress to pass this bill without delay. Sign on to show your support today.
Nothing is more important than the debt of gratitude this country owes to our fighting men and women.
Let's hope the vets remember just how much the Repubs think of them at voting time, in the State races and the Presidential. Get every damn Repub out of office!
from your mouth to Gode ears.
Another filibuster and political nonsense by the republicans that cares not for the US and without a doubt not for the veterans. Shame on all of them and anyone that votes for these slime-balls in the coming election. I am a vet and this tics me off more than anything I have seen in my 60 years on this earth....
I think it was so heartless and stupid of the Senate GOP to not vote for this bill. It shows that they just don't care for our Vets. at all. The GOP are the first to start a war, but when our young men and women come home the GOP just dont care about them anymore.
Both my kids are vets and we all will not vote for a GOP president or any other GOP candidate. The GOP's attitude toward women is another reason to vote for our President Obama.
Thank you for your service, I wish the GOP felt the same way.
Disgusting. Pathetic. Treasonous! This Republican party no longer DESERVES the support of Americans. VOTE DEMOCRAT! Blue in 1-2!
no doubt, and very well said Ken!!! un....believable.
What a bunch of idiots, it is disgusting and any of those senators running should not be re-elected. Whoever votes for these fools is an idiot also.
Time to really clean the house and senate this fall and remove the obstructionists.
WE NEED TO MOVE FORWARD!!!
The tea party has to go!!!! If Romney loses the rest will fall as well. DEM 2012!!
As a disabled Vet. I am disgusted with the Republican Nazi Party. It is time to disband this repulsive, anti-American association.
Yeah R-tardikkkans a monkey like throwback that lives out of dumpsters and lies to the middle class and they believe it ...nice call oooh rawwww
Incredible, When no-one is allowed to win, even those who deserve to can't.
Just when you think they can't get any more despicable.
Caregiver Ive been saying that for 30 years.
It's amazing, John, absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, not in a good way.
Caregiver the republican party has morphed into the biggest bunch of self serving egotistical a$$holes that believe this country should be lead by the wealthy, for the wealthy with laws geared for the wealthy and to hell with senior citizens, our vets, the poor and disabled. All Mitt and the teabagger congress did was re verify that fact to the American ppl.
I agree, John. I was hoping when the tea party came along, it would cause the Republican party to implode but that didn't happen. Now it's up to us to vote straight Democrat for years. Maybe then they'll get it. To He!! with this everybody for themselves attitude. My Bible believes we are our brother's keepers. I'm still having a problem comprehending how Republicans treat our men and women who leave their families to serve this country, who have lost limb(s) for this country, who come home with PTSD. Our military/veterans deserve more respect. We owe them in more ways than one.
This is unbelievable to me. How can the Republican congress stab our veterans in the back like this.
they would stab there own mother in the back with an ice pick and kick them on the ground remember....Jesus loves ONLY the RICH PEOPLE and god hates us all !!
Stab their Mother in the Back and then send the Estate a BILL
Jim, the SAD Fact is that Pres. Bush did the same thing while in office.CUT $$ from Veterans Benefit's, Pathetic to say the least.
Unfortunately- even back to the 1920's and the veterans march on Washington demanding what they had been promised during WWI. Many were killed by active duty military. You just can't put vets out to pasture with nothing!
Because they hate Obama they want him to fail, no matter who gets hurt in the cross fire.
I did 20 years on active duty, fought in the Persian Gulf and supported five other wars intensely from the rear providing real time analysis of combat information reporting for our soldiers in harms way. I knew plenty of friends in the Army and other services that served honorably in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am as angry right now as I can be at Republicans in the Senate who have reached a new low right now. The attitude of the GOP. In fairness to the GOP there were five or so Senators that voted in favor in Iraq and Afghanistan Jobs bill today. I am not talking about those five or so GOP Senators that supported this veterans jobs corps bill. Those Republican Senators did the right thing and stood by our veterans. To them I say thanks.
This filibuster of this veterans bill is a total disgrace which sums modern Republican party. The GOP loves to send people into conflict but does not want to take care of returning veterans when they come home and need a job. The Army has a bad problem with high numbers suicides amongst young veterans. We have lost 5,000 soldiers killed, 50,000 soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. The term "soldier" refers to all services, Guard, and Reserve component both men and women veterans. Perhaps as many as one hundred thousand combat veterans will have trouble with severe mental anxiety, post traumatic stress, and brain trauma. Multiple combat tours means many problems readjusting back home for returning veterans.
People who have to do horrible things like shooting an insurgent in the next room who turns out to be a 12 year kid with grenades and an AK-47 or picking up the pieces of human beings blasted by a roadside bombs who was the soldier you ate breakfast with an hour before somehow makes you a different person. The usual corporate concern about next quarters sales targets at the business meeting just aren't as important after you have watched friends get killed violently or you have had to shoot an enemy soldier at point blank range where a half a second too late the enemy would have killed you instead. The usual concern about money, status, profits just does seem the same after seeing a lot of nasty, vile things in a combat zone. Why the concern about more profits or business or sales or caring about whether the big boss likes you or not? Many of these things just don't matter to combat veterans.
Most veterans will readjust okay but many more will not readjust to civilian life ever again and may need government help the rest of their lives. These are just the facts of life folks. If you don't like the cost of war don't start wars. We sent these people into harm's way to do our nation's dirty work. We have a moral responsibility to pay for and take care of all these returning veterans for as long as they and their families need help. This job will not be simple, easy, short, or cheap but it is our moral duty to take of those who have fought for our country. We must as a nation take care of these veterans who fought for our country thousands of miles away from home in places like Fallujah, Al Anbar, Baghdad, Kabul, and Kandahar, and a host of other places too long too mention.
The GOP Senate today is about as despicable and cowardly as I can think of right now. I think Norway rats in the sewer have more redeeming qualities than the Senators that filibustered this veteran's bill today. At a time when we need to work together, the failure to pass this bipartisan bill to help veterans with jobs is the work of immature children masquerading as U.S. Senators. The complete and total hypocrisy of the GOP in the Senate today in wanting to support more tax cuts for the rich today while failing to help veterans returning from war could not be more apparent to anyone. These GOP KNUCKLEHEADS voted to send these veterans into two wars, including a war of choice in Iraq while at the same time voting huge tax cuts worth over $2 trillion that disproportionately went to the rich. Now the GOP does not even want to see these Iraq and Afghanistan veterans get jobs and the care they need to readjust to civilian life. Despicable hypocrites is a justly deserved title for Republicans.
The fellow veterans I served with did not care about politics when we had soldiers in harm's way. We pulled together and did our jobs as well as possible because lives depended on their completing their mission successfully. The GOP Senate today would have passed this bill if all of those Senators had been combat veterans. Veterans that pull together under combat conditions both at the front or doing the long, tough, hard support work behind the lines that keeps the logistical machine going represent America at its finest. Conservatives who support tax cuts for the rich but turned their backs on the Iraq and Afghanistan veterans today bring out the very worst in America. If you are a conservative and are offended by what I have written go shut the hell up. Because I do not like a political party that sends veterans into combat, wraps themselves up in the flag, sticks up "WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS" bumper stickers on their vehicle, and then turns their back on veterans when they come home and need help. Your GOP yellow ribbon stands for yellow GOP coward and hypocrite.
Tell 'um, Rex. The GOP doesn't have your back but Obama and his "47%" does.
Careless................how uncouth! Take your stench back to the pig sty of F---news.
President Obama has 47% and MORE.......................
Obama/Biden 2012 FORWARD !
DemE, if you're talking to me, I think you need to re-read my post and notice the 47% in parenthesis. That means I agree. There are more.
I couldn't agree with Rex more and you said it from the right perspective. I bet none of those GOP's either went to fight in a war or sent their sons or daughters. I could not believe I heard that they filibustered that bill!! It is a travesty and it makes me sick! I work with some vets and the scars they come home with is heartwrenching and to think the GOP who send them to war cannot even approve a jobs bill for them! As you said it is treasonous
This is totally disgusting. I hope someone puts up a poll for citizens to sign so we can all say how much we hate this.
For Republican's it's always been about the money to be made during war, not about those who fight it. For Republican's, EVERYTHING is about money.
Mitch McConnell should be voted out of office
No more wars for you republicans.................you can't support American soldiers..........you can't use them anymore..............
Revoke the pay of Congress! Stop payments on their free healthcare!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Ryan..........how's that government job going for ya? And Romney how's that capitol gains welfare program doing? Republicans represent the height of arrogance and indecency!
Obama/Biden 2012 FORWARD !
Have any of you read the bill? Do you know all that's in it? Are you sure some obscure measure wasn't stuck in somewhere? Do any of you know anything?
My understanding from the only Vet in Congress was that it was a bipartison bill written by both parties. The GOP got everything they asked for in the bill- what the h...l they should all be forced to resign!!
Vince, you asked questions, but can't type 'G-o-o-g-l-e?' Here is what it was about and what happened.
The Democratic bill was based on a proposal for a $1 Billion program outlined by President Obama during his SOTU address (you know, it was 'proposed' by the President, so it HAS to be BAD), but had been later amended (you know the evil word the GOP hates - 'compromise') to include a number of Republican sponsored provisions, including measures that would improve veterans' access to internet tools to find jobs, and make it easier for troops leaving military service to get transition training for civilian life. FOUR of the Senators who helped draw up the BI-PARTISAN Bill, were the SAME ONES who voted 'NO' to it. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) fillibustered the Bill, and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) said the bill had no chance of passing the House of Representatives and is meant to help "politicians and not veterans." Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) called the bill a "charade." Sen. Jeff Sessions, (R-Ala.), the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, raised a budget point of order, charging that the bill violated the Budget Control Act by adding to the deficit. Without 60 votes (since the vote was 58-40), the bill returned to committee, a step that killed the legislation, and CAN NOT be brought back for a vote THIS YEAR. So, in the end, the GOP (except for the few who crossed lines to vote FOR the bill), decided that those returning from war, were not 'deserving' - plain and simple. To the GOP, it's okay to send them to die, get maimed, and have mental problems needing attention ASAP; the GOP can't be bothered with assisting those who served honorably, because the GOP themselves have NO honor.
Yep another topic that our rabid righties won't debate or defend, really they show just how cowardly they are. Yet they are all over the place making up their welfare stories and how great robme is for the country on every other topic. Just goes to show vote republican and get tossed under the bus while they wave flags and whine about how life was hard for them, why I heard they once had to cash in stocks and bonds to pay their nanny, the horrors.
As a retired combat veteran I am not a special person. I have to pay my bills, obey the law, and take care of my family like everyone else. The government provided veterans benefits have been good to me and I know it. But I also have the fortune of not having been wounded in combat either. These veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan have had serious emotional PTSD, mental anxiety, and brain trauma injuries caused by roadside bombs that are the signature invisible wound. The brain tissue gets slapped against the inside of the skull from concussion of the bomb blast despite body armor and Kevlar helmets. Many of these veterans may or may not be able to work again in their lives.
I can remember a specific case of a young man at FT Carson going through the discharge process. His wife had to lead him through the entire proceeding taking him to his meetings, reading his forms for him, writing down his appointments. When you looked into his eyes you saw the total blank stare and black rings around his eyes. The soldier looked like he had not had a decent nights sleep in months. I talked to him for about five minutes. He would fade in and out of reality. He could hold down a conversation but seemed unable to remember much of anything. This is a classic sign of severe PTSD or even brain trauma because the two can often go together. I looked at his unit patch and had been following the combat deployment of his unit. This unit had had many casualties in Iraq from bomb blasts and ambushes. Will this veteran be able to hold down a job and take care of his wife and children? Right now, his wife is probably taking care of him at 23 years old.
Yesterday the Senate GOP let that veteran and his family down and a hundred thousand others just like him. Many times the hardest battles for a returning combat veteran are the battles faced right on the home front from an unsympathetic and forgetful public shown by the conservatives yesterday.
Rex - I disagree that you are not a special person. You have been there and done that.
MITT and the Re-pugs I double dog dare you too tell the TROOPS that they are worthless. Oh wait you already have done so with the 47% remark and killing the Vets jobs bill !!!!!!
Anybody that earns under $300,000 Democrat, Republican, or Independent that votes for Mitt Romney is a fool
This is what bothers me about the hard left. Outright hypocrisy. Two factual examples;
Have you forgotten it was Barack Obama himself who wanted wounded veterans to pay for their own healthcare?
Have you forgotten it was the Clinton administration that reneged on the promise of free healthcare for retired veterans?
Come on folks, at least be honest about it. Sign me Retired Veteran for Romney and Ryan.
Right here is what we remember gfm, GWB sent troops into battle ill equipped and when they came back wounded he stuck them into rat infested buildings because he made cuts to the VA hospitals. So don't attempt to scream hypocrisy when this is the 3rd time in recent history that the GOP have failed VETs.
Gadsden: Thanks for serving. If you are a Republican you sure do not give a damn about this generation of combat vets if you support Romney/Ryan. Typical right winger garbage: make an absurd charge with no sources to deflect the conversation. We are talking about the GOP's failure to pass yesterday's bill to help the unemployed veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan find jobs and careers with a Jobs Corp bill. Congress has to pass new spending not Bill Clinton or President Obama. The Senate failed to do right by our combat veterans yesterday but Romney/Ryan continue to support making the Bush tax cuts permanent in their proposals. The GOP found plenty of money to support $2 trillion worth of tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires and start two wars at the same time. Now we can not afford a few billion dollars to help veterans 100,000 veterans plus with severe PTSD and brain trauma injuries while the millionaires and billionaires stay safe behind the lines with their tax cuts. Sounds like the worst kind of hypocrisy to me?
Spare me Senator Coburn's assertion on "Morning Joe" today, that therealready are veterans programs in place too. The existing veterans programs were designed in another era for a different generation of veterans with different needs. This current generation of veterans has lots of PTSD and brain trauma from thousands of roadside bombs. The extent of these injuries will not be known for years. The veteran can appear normal even to doctors but when required to do more certain types of functions or tasks on a job the brain trauma victim will have may have difficulty perform sequential tasks. Other brain trauma victims have problems adjusting to marriage and family life after their encounter with bombs and rockets. Close Quarter Urban combat has also produced nasty and severe PTSD in large numbers because the fighting, killing, death and maiming is up close and in your face.
President Obama has done no such thing of requiring wounded veterans to pay for their own health care. What the hell are you talking about? There has been no such policy put forward or put in place under the Obama administration. Michelle Obama and Jill Biden have been angels to wounded veterans and their families. Michelle spends much of her time visiting with the wives of officers and the families of soldiers. She has worked tirelessly and selflessly in trying to help veterans readjust back into civilian life. President Obama and Michelle have been hard working and caring public servants for veterans and military families. They deserve reelection just because they have shown repeatedly that they have empathy and care about veterans and their families. Too bad the GOP in the Senate that filibustered that Veteran's Job Corps bill yesterday acted like little whining little children wanting to go home after recess from school rather than adults with a job to get done.
Gadsden - Also, don't forget that a health care bill was killed under Clinton that would have been the first step to that free medical care for vets, which was killed by a REPUBLICAN controlled CONGRESS not just the House or the Senate but both.
Just when you think republicans, can not be more evil, guess what, they become more evil. And it is people like Gadsden, who encourage the evilness by voting for the evil doers. Gadsden, if you were truely a retired veteran, you would never vote for any republican as they are all against the past, present and future millitary troops. All millitary troops stick together working toward the safety security and freedom for all Americans. Elected, republican officials are derelict in their duty of sponsoring and passing bills in the best interest of our millitary troops. I, too am retired millitary (Air Force) and there is no damn way, I would vote for any evil republican. We veterans, deserve much better than they are willing to allow us. If you were a true vet, you would not settle for their neglect.
Rex,
i really appreciate your posts, and the insight you bring to this blog.
thank you for your service.
Is this the type of people we want running office's of importance in this country! We have a congress who are getting paid for doing nothing, and republicans who wouldn't even vote for a jobs bill for veterans! How disgusting do this party have to get before we vote them out of office?
They won't vote for any job bills, they need to be delt with.
The GOP still making friends huh? And now they want a BIGGER military! Well well just who is gonna sign up for a career in the military when this is what they can expect. I would guess if the thugs gain power it will be a draft or they will crash the economy so bad that people would sign up just to get a meal and a place to sleep. Then of course they can have some more of their bloody crusades.
They want a bigger military, ah ...yes. We stopped the draft for one simple reason back in the 1970's. We couldn't afford it. If everybody were to serve 2 years in the military (which was how long you served after boot camp if you were drafted) it would have bankrupted us way back then. Imagine now with the higher wages and benefits. The cost of military equipment has gone astronomical and we can't get the wages high enough for a lot of the people serving, they can do better outside.I am talking about specialties like electronics, etc. I don't begrudge anything for the military, but we need something else to keep our men and women in uniform.
IMO, They should stop out-sourcing the military jobs, to the private sector, to whom they pay much more, for inferior and less productivity, also out of harms way. If I had children and/or grand-children, contemplating military service, I would do everything in my power to dis-courage them from any military service.
I think we need what happened during the French Revolution Off with their Heads!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a disgrace!!!!!!!!! These Re-pugs don't give a SH*T ABOUT THE TROOPS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If these Clowns get a Pay Raise if ROB-ME gets in I say March on Washington DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Raise a ruckus in the streets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First lets rock them at the polls on Nov 6th!
Does anyone remember when the Senate Republicans forced a dying Senator Robert Byrd to leave his hospital bed to show up for a midnight vote on December 19th 2009,...not long before his death in 2010?
As he entered the chamber floor IN HIS WHEEL CHAIR, he yelled up to all those despicable Republicans in the room…
'SHAME! SHAME!
The REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS NO SHAME!
Indeed, no morals or shame!
I am so sick of the Republicans saying the Democrats control the Senate. A 58-40 vote to give Veterans jobs is blocked by one GOP Senator "saying" FILIBUSTER.
A lot of people blow a lot of steam without knowing all the facts and details and that is true for both parties. To me, if the bill did not pass, the leader is the one who failed to lead. But there is probably lots more to the story than what we are hearing. Whomever wins in November needs to be able to lead both sides to the middle and begin healing this great country.
