Polls leading up to Friday's movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado, show there's not much support for stricter gun laws.
Voters seemed to support tighter controls right after the Columbine shootings in 1999. But, as you can see, gun control has become less and less popular over the past thirteen years.
So what’s it going to take to change the gun laws in this country?
"There should be a serious discussion and debate, not a hysterical one, not one that is so polarized that you can't have a legitimate discussion," Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter (D) said Friday on The Ed Show. "People want to be safe in America. And that's what we need to stay focused."
"I am pessimistic that we're going to make progress, or what I would consider progress on, towards sensible gun control," said Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson. "An assault weapons ban, that seems to be a no-brainer to me. But I don`t think that the conditions are there to move toward that."
"We could have changes in the law, but before that, we have to get changes in the conversation," said Bloomberg View columnist Jonathan Alter. "And that is achievable in the next few weeks if we focus on it."

YOU must be registered as FFL with ATF, and the only way you can store federally regulated weapons is to register the weapon with ATF and you must have a gun safe that will prevent access for 45 minutes by burglar AND you must have a burglar alarm for the building with armed response. This is the same kind of registration that is required for dealers and shooting ranges. You can't buy, sell, or store weapons with special classification without an FFL registration.

The wisdom of our forefathers who wrote the declaration of independence and the constitution believed that the right to bear arms was fundamental to maintaining a government that respected its people. The whole idea is that we as law abiding true Americans cannot allow a government to have supreme power over the people. If you prevent non violent, law abiding citizens from possessing weapons to protect family, themselves and the people of this country from any enemy that may threaten your right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, then you might as well sign away the rest of your rights.
Now, if you want to get rid of guns everywhere in the world in one fell swoop including all military's and leaders, then I would be for that. Let's get rid of all weapons of mass destruction while we are at it too. I would definitely feel safer then.
The point I am making here is clear, you must solve the problems with society that would cause someone to go on a rampage and kill INNOCENT people. Society programmed him, not the guns. We need to find out why these people kill for no reason or apparently no reason. The thing that has struck me and that I've been thinking a lot about over the weekend is this. The Constitution gives us many rights, 2 of which are the right to VOTE and the right to BEAR ARMS.
While the GOP insist we must not restrict the right for any individual to bear arms (the NRA won't even agree to restrict those designated as terrorists from being able to obtain guns), at the same time, the GOP don't have any problem with restricting the rights of thousands and thousands across the country from voting.
We have to continue to make our voices heard about this matter of unrestrained buying and selling of guns and ammunition. We have to continue to make our voices heard to our representatives about putting some COMMON SENSE restrictions on assault weapons and the large ammo cartridges.
Neither of which are necessary for those who are interested in hunting animals such as deer, etc. They really only come in handy when the hunter is interested in killing as many humans as possible or defending against the police... 2 advantages that we should not want to be given to those interested in those 2 things.
We should be questioning why the NRA is advocating for those things as well as allowing terrorists to have these weapons, against the best interests of the public and the police. And we need to keep up the pressure on this IDIOTIC group who have perverted the meaning of the 2nd Amendment. We need to continue to voice our views until the NRA are taken down and have their power restricted to level where they can be DROWNED IN A BATHTUB! SOUND FAMILIAR GROVER, GOD OF THE TAX @!$%#S?
The way we can make this happen is to support the candidates who promise to make and support legislation toward sensible laws regarding firearms, and restricting assault weapons and the large ammo cartridges.
Currently... lawmakers on both sides are afraid to even talk about these issues, because they are afraid of not being re-elected. Gun laws prohibiting the posession of guns by minors and prohibiting the posession of guns in schools didn't stop the columbine massacre... nor did gun laws prohibiting the posession of firearms by any civilian prevent the Oslo massacre. Gun restrictions don't stop those bent on committing mass murder. They do stop anyone with a chance of stopping the shooter from stopping the shooter though.

Here is a clue a few years ago the US gun show dealers got a shipment of Chinese SKS rifles, gun show dealers were selling them and other dealers were selling parts that would convert the SKS rifles into AK-47's now here is the neat part, you could turn the SKS semi automatic rifles into a fully automatic rifle with just a file and the booklet telling you which parts on the rifle that needed filing to make the SKS conversion into a fully automatic, also sold at gun shows. It is only illegal if you get caught with the rifle, which shows why lax gun laws are stupid.
It is impossible to convert a SKS into a AK-47.
1st they are the same cal 7.62x39.
Next the actions are different.
So you have to take the action and barrel from the AK-47 and fit it into the SKS frame/stock.
And that would be pointless. And require modifying the SKS stock.
Next if all that made sense then the Russians would have done that way back in the 40's & 50's.

Nobody has introduced any laws to confiscate weapons.
Laws that have been introduced include tracking ammunition purchase like how we track allergy medication used to make illegal drugs AND putting serial numbers on ammunition so that the purchaser can be identified from bullets removed from dead bodies.
The only people that would oppose these kinds of laws are the ones that are pro-murder.

All weapon sales in California must be face to face (no online purchase). The dealer is required to evaluate your mental state as a condition of sale.
You must pass a 30 question handgun safety test before you can take possession and purchase is void within 30 days if you fail to pass the test (must re-start the 10 day wait). Most people require a class. There are questions like "may you discharge a weapon over a dry stream bed?" and "can you discharge a weapon from a moving vehicle?" It is doubtful that any crazy person could pass this test.
The mandatory wait while DoJ processes your ID for firearms sales is 10 calendar days. The state will process your ID to determine if you are authorized (not a felon, ...).
California has a limit of no more than 1 handgun purchase each 30 days except for people with dealer/broker/curio license or law enforcement.
California bans large capacity weapons holding over 10 bullet-rounds or 3 shot-rounds.
All ammunition sales are reported to law enforcement.

Since I was a Police Officer in my younger years, who is going to protect you or any other citizen ? I can tell you right now, it not going to be law enforcement, law enforcement make arrest after the law has been violated, law enforcement rarely ever stops a crime being committed or before it can happen, law enforcement becomes involved after the crime was committed, law enforcement can only effect the next victim not the current victim.

As I stated, I did and I still believe the same way. Your comment goes to show how little you know about not only your rights but the roll of law enforcement, in most states, law enforcement can only make an arrest for felonies, if a misdemeanor occurs an officer can only make an arrest if it occurred in his presents, a citizen can make both of these arrests, in California an officer can not refuse a citizen's arrest, the citizen has to sign a complaint on all citizens arrest and misdemeanors.

The big 3 have been sued for selling cars unsafe for the roads. Why isn't the gun makers held to the same level as the big 3? After all they are selling a product that only has 1 purpose to kill shouldn't they be required to make sure that their customers can safely use their products. XXX OOO, I was reading today a post where Hitler did exactly what some call for taking the guns from its citizens so they could be more easily controlled. Guns are just metal they become deadly with ammo. I am amazed this guy was able to buy 6000 rounds . Another thing i heard someone said he received a phone call and exited the theater emergency door. then came back through and tossed the canisters and started firing. Why didn't a alarm go off for the theater when he exited that door? I think they need to install cameras on these exits from now on. This guy planed this to the teeth ! The NRA has always had way too much power and pull in the political arena to get any effective gun control through the congress. Since most politicians are esmasulated by the gun lobby, maybe its past time to go after the ammunition. Make bullits as expensive as a damn 10 carat diamond ring! If the folks in washington are going to wimp out again and not take care of the american people, then we should push for extreme sanctions on the ammunition that these machines of death require.
