James Eagan Holmes appeared in court for the first time today after he was arrested last week in the deaths of 12 people in a mass shooting at a sold-out movie theater in Aurora, Colo.
The hearing was held to advise Holmes, 24, of his rights. Official charges aren't filed at a so-called "advisement" hearing; under Colorado law, prosecutors will now have 72 hours to file charges, but in especially complicated cases, judges have the leeway to give them more time.

President Barack Obama will not pursue new gun control restrictions following Friday’s mass shooting in Colorado, preferring instead to use existing laws to restrict dangerous people gaining access to firearms, White House officials said on Sunday.

I noticed in all his other pictures he looked like a perfectly normal student in class. This had been his world. Do you know what is like for a person who is told there is going to be a reward at the end of all your had work and it isn't there for you. I think he was suffering from a great deal of depression, and of course we do not know yet what or if there were mental problems. He is at a very difficult time in his life and he oviously wasn't thinking normally. Why? Up until that day no one thought he would commit a horrible crime. He did not think of the people that he killed or he hurt in the frame of being human and having lives. Let's not make the same mistake about him. Did he think beyond that one moment and what did he think he would gain from it? We all would like to have answers.
I think that we might also have a talk about how our mentally different people are treated. We don't throw everyone who is different into insane asylums any more to be taken care of. We leave them on the streets. No one wants to take responsibly for them. The shooting range people noticed something was wrong. But they only warned their employees, no one else. If they had called the police and ask them to look at this guy, we still do not know how they would have handled it?
Guns will always be a part of our society along with those who need mental help. Calling this man scum etc. will not prevent others in un-stable condition to be prevented from committing horrendous acts of violence.

I'm sorry, but I see Holmes as one who committed a terrible crime, but I also see him as something wrong with society to deny why he needed help before this happened. It always comes out in the end that people noised his strangeness, but in the end did nothing about helping him by reporting his oddness to the authorities. They think, " Oh, I'll just stay clear of him."
