Check out this Huffington Post article. During a radio interview on The Heritage Foundation's "Istook Live!" show, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) was asked why he believes such senseless acts of violence take place. Gohmert responded:
You know what really gets me, as a Christian, is to see the ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs, and then some senseless crazy act of terror like this takes place... Some of us happen to believe that when our founders talked about guarding our virtue and freedom, that that was important. Whether it's John Adams saying our Constitution was made only for moral and religious people ... Ben Franklin, only a virtuous people are capable of freedom, as nations become corrupt and vicious they have more need of masters ... We have been at war with the very pillars, the very foundation of this country.
Rep. Gohmert also questioned if the tragedy would have been as bad if someone else in the theater had been carrying a gun and shot back:
It does make me wonder, with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying a gun that could have stopped this guy more quickly.

Shut Up Boner - Your BS - Just Doesn't Cut It Anymore - Tomorrow You And Your Cohorts Will Be Rite Back To Your S.O.B.S. !!!!!!! OBSTRUCTION of OUR Country !!!!!!
God Bless ALL Of the Fallen !!!! Just WHAT Has This Country Come To ????

I knew who this guy was from the start too. He wasn't funny anymore....so sent a note to Tyler yesterday morning to check out this guy more closely since he's been the heavy more often lately. Sometimes enough is way too much of enough.
Gee....I that reminds of some people who think they're not privileged enough already and whine to Congress and Norquist to fix them up.....sound like drug addicts looking desperately for another hit because they're "sick".
Then there's others who stalk people for full service because their self-esteem tank *feels* like it needs to be filled or topping off, instead of getting out of the "car" and do the task that they could be fixing on their own.
that young man had NO hope and SEEN no change... SAD so SAD!
Please enlighten me, b113, about this poor little rich kid who could see no "Hope and Change". Haven't heard that part of this tragic event.
Watched Cavuto this afternoon and he didn't present anything about this part....must of went to the bathroom or let the dogs out and briefly watched the new birds in my yard. Maybe "he" dismissed this part of the story because his viewers *still* can't handle the truth *yet*.
What I did see on FOX was a Zimmerman type of circling of the wagons.
I agree, sad, so sad, that a promising, gifted young man who had everything threw away his God given gifts to murder innocent people and in the end chose to cower near his car to be arrested and will spend the rest of his life in prison. Or do they have the death penalty in CO? Even so, it's sad, so sad, when this person lost all "Hope and Change" and didn't have enough left to do what I would have done in shame in the same situation with my gun.
Personally, I think, this murderer should get a life sentence and get served up what happened to Dahmer......but then, I'm just a bleeding heart Liberal when it comes to justice. I'm not on the fringe right, so I guess I can't think clearly.
As stated by Gohmert~~"You know what really gets me, as a Christian, is to see the ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs."
Rep. Gohmert also questioned if the tragedy would have been as bad if someone else in the theater had been carrying a gun and shot back
Hey Gomert, Do you mean someone like George Zimmerman?? Holmes was an idiot with a gun, also. This country needs GUN CONTROL, not guns in every hand .Your comment is un-Christian, and IS attacking Judeo-Christian beliefs. You and your ilk, claim to be Christian, while violating the TEN COMMANDMENTS and blame others for attacking Christianity. Anyone can say, "I am a Christian", but that is not the proof of being Christian. The NRA and our congress, has blood on their hands. America needs GUN CONTRO LAWS NOW!
My condolances to all of the victims and their family and friends. It is outrageous that this is happening in America
greatgran,
GREAT POST!
Thanks, Greatgran, and may I add:
The mentality that Rep Gohmert pushes is the exact mentality of the old Archie Bunker who suggested we could stop planes being hijacked by, "arming all the passengers." Back then, this absurdity got a big laugh. But today it's not too far from the truth.
The NRA has promoted this Archie Bunder mentality so they can rake in huge profits by selling guns to everyone and by promoting military type guns, ammunition, and even police gear which this nut was wearing. Why are we selling these products? Why? Because somebody wants to make a buck and they'll do ANYTHING to satisfy their greed. They care nothing about the safety of the American people.
How many more tragedies do we have to endure? How many more victims will we sacrifice before we do something about the easy access to guns and other weapons that are meant for one thing: killing people. A free society means more than being able to buy assault weapons, it means the majority should be protected from those on the lunatic fringe. This time, 71 victims.
GREATGRAN & Nancebelle.....couldn't agree with you more. <s>
gotoleft:
Leave is to the right to take the opportunity to turn this into an political idealogy football....bless your cotton pickin' little hearts.
I defend my 2nd Amendment Right and every person on this blog knows it if they stop to read my posts. To defend the NRA and who I consider gun nitwits, is nothing more than defending the indefensible of these "special" interest groups. There are other Americans who are *real* and care about what is important to try to protect *everyone's* Right to feel free to walk out their front door.
Your disrepect of *every* victim of this tragedy in Aurora is very telling about people who don't ever try to think about all issues of what our Rights mean *and* the responsibilities that go with that Right.
slacker: Your comment is underwhelming. Your question is not even worth the time to try to answer.....you just refuse to get it. Just keep moving along with your blinders on....I won't try to deprive you of the Right.
I would caution, slack, that *you* be a little careful about using the word "you" in posting. Just a little word to the wise. You're free to take this little suggestion and put it where you deem appropriate. I don't care to know what you decided either.
gotoleft#4.2~~You, yourself, turned this into a political football. I do not know any of the victims, personally, in todays deadly disaster, but I can guarantee, they weren't all members of the same political party. You are also, the only one to mention, the NRA-gop talking point, cliches' "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. and guns don't kill, people kill." Congress needs to get out of the pocket of the NRA, and do their job for the American people, and write and pass, very strict gun control laws, that are strictly enforced, and the NRA needs to butt out, and stop stuffing their pockets at the expense of, and endangering the lives of, the American people. Congress has sold their soul to their special interest and it is time for the American people to take back our government and elect a congress who understands they have to work for we the people who pays their salary. Their special interest will not buy them if they can't be rewarded. Congress must stop taking our money from us to give to their special interest owners and that includes the NRA.
If this murderer had no guns he could have easily poured a gallon of gasoline in the theater door and tossed a couple of molotov cocktails in there, killing more than 12 people.
What do you want to do about that possibility, ban gasoline?
If all guns are outlawed only the criminals would have guns and no one would be able to defend themselves.
Who the heck are you talking to, RIO? Yourself?
Sure and let's ban peanuts because people in the theatre might go into anaphylexic shock. What if's.....what if's....what if's....and no positive or intelligent solutions. Typical.
Apparently, you haven't read a single post. Why are you here? Maybe come back when your intellectually armed.
Leave it to Gohmert to think another Zimmerman wannabe could have taken this kid out. He had on so much body armor you would have had to blow him up to kill him. Now listen to the Repubs whine about how the Dems want to take all their guns away from them. No they don't! They just want better laws and more responsibility instead of these guns shows selling to every Tom, Dick and Dirty Harry without background checks. Where did this kid get the money to buy two Glocks, a shotgun, an AR-15, all the body armor, and explosives? I guess if Mom and Dad had enough money to send him to med school, they may have unwittingly bankrolled his gun purchases. I guess we'll find out since he didn't have the courage to off himself and instead cowered by his car until the cops found him.
Slackwarerobert, are dealers at gun shows required to do a background check before selling weapons? Do some checking before you answer.
Hi, MJB !! Happy Friday!
Kind of reminds ya of the North Hollywood bank robbery....huh? It's absolutely astounding that no one was killed except the bad guys.
Gee, slack....I didn't know all the hidden camera videos of transactions showing the *exact opposite* of your statement were all staged. Thanks, bud, for the heads up on that propaganda by gun control special interest groups.....sure wouldn't want to have my head up my ass!
About the rest of your post....is that just helpful shopping tips for our benefit or brag?
Only if you have an FFL (Federal Firearms License). 25 to 50% sellers at the gun shows DO NOT have an FFL therefor are not subject to laws requiring felony background checks. And you're dead wrong. 1986 revised gun control law DOES NOT require a background check if a private seller is selling a gun out of his trunk.
To date, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) has prevented nearly 1.8 million criminals and other prohibited purchasers from buying guns. The law also has a deterrent effect—prohibited purchasers are less likely to try to buy guns when they know comprehensive background check requirements are in place.
Unfortunately, current federal law requires criminal background checks only for guns sold through licensed firearm dealers, which account for just 60% of all gun sales in the United States. A loophole in the law allows individuals not “engaged in the business” of selling firearms to sell guns without a license—and without processing any paperwork. That means that two out of every five guns sold in the United States change hands without a background check.
Though commonly referred to as the “Gun Show Loophole,” the “private sales” described above include guns sold at gun shows, through classified newspaper ads, the Internet, and between individuals virtually anywhere.
Unfortunately, only six states (CA, CO, IL, NY, OR, RI) require universal background checks on all firearm sales at gun shows. Three more states (CT, MD, PA) require background checks on all handgun sales made at gun shows. Seven other states (HI, IA, MA, MI, NJ, NC, NE) require purchasers to obtain a permit and undergo a background check before buying a handgun. Florida allows its counties to regulate gun shows by requiring background checks on all firearms purchases at these events. 33 states have taken no action whatsoever to close the Gun Show Loophole.
Louie Gohmert, Bachmann wannabe, had this to say:
"It does make me wonder, with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying a gun that could have stopped this guy more quickly?" he said.
What an inbred, braindead, backwoods idiot! If any theatre-goer had shot at him, they either would have hit another theater-goer or identified themselves as a threat to Holmes and been shot dead.
A mass shooting like this, and all this idiot can think is "More guns! More guns!"
He must really like those checks from the NRA.
And we all know that everyone does what their told not to do, slack...your a model for all of us to look up to because you are the gold standard when it comes to following the rules.
I agree....that usher should of been following only this person's movement and never be allowed to work again in this Country.
And as far as that theater goes, they should be never be allowed to open their doors again. If they are part of chain, I say shut 'em all down! That'll learn 'em!!
Wow, slack...must have been frightening when that huge gust went over your head.
He and Bachman should go-please. So I guess the scene would be more like ok corral? I'm sure he is a member of the NRA-oh, oh, Obama is going to come for our guns.
I wish he could. Someone should.
This was not the guns fault. And it is not the NRA or bass Pro Shops or Dick's that we need to direct anger at. It is the young man with mental issues that decided to shoot up a movie theater... Outlawing guns will only make outlaws. And only people who are uneducated on the subject feel the need to lash out at the availability of guns or the NRA. Lets look at narcotics; They are illegal. yet we still have an abundance of crack heads and drug abusers. WIERD!! People are losing their minds, guns aren't killing more people... People who are less equiped to deal with their problems with guns are. So just because you've never shot a firearm, let's respect our second amendment. Because I, as a 26 yr old PharmD, carry my 9mm everywhere. Even to WalMart. And I bet you've never even shot a gun. But yet you'll bitch about the NRA. And I bet your a libral.
What happened it a tragedy and a horrible thing. I feel terrible for those families. Too bad no one was able to get a shot off at the shooter. If he were here in NC I'd bet money he wouldn't have made it out the door alive. And that makes me sleep better.
Slackware, you're trying to copy Emperor aren't you? Same style of BS. Turn everything around and make it sound like your sane. Won't work. We know you and you are far from sane.
And just like Imp, slack doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground MJB.
You could pretty much say that about ALL Republicans John! :)
shingle,
"this was not the guns fault"?
omigod.
Enough with the so-called "gun control."
Gun control has become increasingly more strict over the past several decades, while violent crime rates have increased. Why is this?
Because criminals DON'T CARE if guns are illegal! They can get them anyway! What happens is that you scare innocent law-abiding citizens away from responsible gun use, while criminals become bolder about arming themselves. The end result is a population of 90% disarmed innocent bystanders, and 10% violent criminals armed to the teeth with no opposition.
Let's say you are an armed criminal looking to rob someone at gunpoint, so you single out an old lady as a victim, drag her into an alleyway and put a gun to her head, and tell her to give you her purse. Why did you go about it that way? Because you're pretty damned sure she's not packing a gun, that's why!
Now, let's say that you go into the same situation knowing there's a 50/50 chance that little old lady might be packing a 45 caliber HAND-CANNON? Are you still gonna be so gung-ho about taking her purse? Hell no, you're not.
Criminals don't look for a fair fight. They look to take advantage, and guess what? They HAVE the advantage, because while the rest of us have been disarming ourselves (and one another), they've been buying more guns.
Remember, criminals DON'T CARE if guns are illegal. They'll buy them anyway.
Isn't cocaine illegal? It is? Well THAT'S a relief! Now we know that NOBODY will get their hands on it anymore! Thank goodness that cocaine has gone away... wait... it hasn't? Illegal drug use IS at an all-time high? Damn, I thought making it ILLEGAL would make it go away, like magic!
Wake up, people. Shaking your finger at violent criminals and saying, "You can't have guns / drugs / etc" just makes you look like a doofus. And it can very well get you shot, for being a moron. p.s I live in Aurora, CO
Like when you're killing men, women and children at an enclosed movie theater?
"Gun control" has been trying to take guns out of the hands of criminals for decades, but for some odd reason, the criminals have more guns than ever, and the rest of us have all disarmed ourselves, and it's the INNOCENT that are being shot. Does this make any sense?
and what crime was the young man committing? The crime of defending himself against a moron who was stalking him? Stand your ground, remember? Or does that just go for the righteous right?
Un-fu(king real.
How much money has Zimmerman suckered some people out of for his defense fund?
Un-fu(king real how an un-necessary event has been perceived by so many twisted people. I'm blown away by where this has gone in some people's minds, thus far.
Hiya sweetie, see post 8.3 above.
since Trayvon Martin isn't here to tell his side of the story, THAT IS VERY CONVENIENT FOR GEORGIE-BOY ZIMMERMAN. if his stand-your-ground defense is so strong, why is he lying and changing his story?
we will never know if the racist george zimmerman walked up behind Trayvon Martin and said "hey n!gger", which demanded a response from the teenage boy (it doesn't matter how tall he is, or whether or not he is wearing a hoodie) resulting in an altercation between the two. clearly, georgie felt comfortable approaching Trayvon because he had a gun HE WAS ITCHING TO USE, AND HE KNEW HE WOULD WIN THIS FIGHT.
this spoiled brat thinks it is god's will that he shot and killed this teenage boy. of course YOU have no problem if Trayvon carries, but he is only a teenager, and an african american teenager. we all know what the outcome would have been if Trayvon would have been carrying a gun, and shot the sissy george dead. of course YOU have no problem if trayvon carries, BUT YOU DO NOT MAKE THE LAWS IN FLORIDA. WHAT YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH DOESN'T MATTER!
easy for you to say what Trayvon SHOULD HAVE DONE.
it is much easier for me to say what georgie-boy should have done, especially after all we have heard from him since the tragic killing of a teenager armed with iced tea and skittles. especially since the lies, and his last interview where he said all of this was god's will.
why are people so excited and intent on using guns? if george zimmerman was indeed within an inch of wearing diapers and being spoon-fed by his brother, how did he have the where-with-all to even pull out his gun and shoot it? another lie by georgie-boy and his daddy the magistrate judge.
he should have stayed in his vehicle and kept his gun intact.
that's what he should have done, that fu(ker.
i have expressed explicitly how i really feel about George Zimmerman shooting and killing Trayvon Martin. i may have broken rules.
I PRAY FOR JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON MARTIN.
god bless the Martin Family.
don't jump on someone who has a gun
i would bet that Trayvon didn't know that george had a gun. you appear to be saying that it is OK for george to stalk and scare a teenage boy-(we know Trayvon was aware he was being followed, and it concerned him).
george zimmerman provoked this fight and the outcome by stalking Trayvon, that much we do know.
the rest is only speculation. because he wants to SAVE HIS SORRY ASS, george zimmerman will NEVER TELL US THE TRUTH ABOUT THAT.
I think we could make more progress with gun control efforts if our state and local police were not controlled by the Government. Our police should be our police. They should not be loyal to the Government, they should be loyal to the citizen and should uphold the state constitution. Our state and local police should be our defense against the Government. Maybe if that were true, the people would not feel that self arming is necessary. We now have, like it or not, a police state.
First of all, the 'NRA' does not represent responsible gun owners and they should reconsider their membership to this lobby organization that primiarly seeks political confrontation with the left.
After the St. Valenitine's Day Massacare, the US Congress banned the "Tommy Gun" was an assault rifle used by Al Capone to rule the streets of Chicago.
Every dire situation has a trigger and in this case it could have been Rush; after he claimed that "Bain Capital" was the inspiration to name the 'Batman' villian Bane.
Conspiracy or just the musings from a crankcase making connections to sow disent and hatered toward people Rush despises including those who see no useful purpose for killing machines.
Those who truely appreciates and understand what exactly is declared in the second admendment with the intensions of America's Founders for such a bill of right may explain what occured in Libiya then consider the current situation in Syria which will visit Saudia Arabia in the near future. Guns are more critical to freedom than what transpired in the 'old west' in history and vintage television programs.
Good evening, Elmo Beck.
You're one of the few people that has their head on straight on this thread thus far.
Good comment.
Well, folks....I've had *way more* than I should have of stupid on this thread tonight. I'm outta here and movin' too fast for the door to hit me in the ass. Bye. <s>
Just two brief questions for the gun lobby today:
It is easier in Florida to get a gun than it is to vote!
And more likely.
This is a "Mental Health Issue,"
NOT a "Gun Issue."
The recent theater shooting and all the other similar shootings is the price Americans pay for allowing Wayne Lapierre and his cohorts to blackmail our politians preventing any meaningful gun control. Until the American people finally get tired of putting up with the possibility of being shot while going about their ordinary activities, perhaps something will be done about preventing crazy people from legally buying guns.
That is unlikely, however, since the majority of the American electorate are too lazy to get off their fat (another story) behinds and get out and vote. Until they do, Wayne Lapierre and his followers will whip up their minority with their usual "scare tactics" that unless they prevent any and all legislation controlling guns, the government will come to their houses and take their guns away from them. That is as ridiculous as the necessity for any "responsible" gun owner absolutely needing an assault weapon to defend their home from burglars, go hunting, or any other “legal” process for which a gun is needed. I am certain that Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock and company did not have assault weapons that can kill one person a minute when they wrote the Second Amendment.
When the American people finally get tired of being the most violent country in the world with the most gun deaths (55 per day), perhaps they will support "responsible" politians who will have the courage to introduce and pass "responsible" gun control legislation. Until then, Americans will keep seeing these "crazies" with guns continue to shoot our innocent fellow citizens. Although, perhaps it will be YOU who is the next innocent citizen to be shot! And as you feel the slam of the bullet, you can take comfort in knowing that the person who just shot you has purchased that assault weapon quite legally (no matter how crazy they are) and is only exercising their Second Amendment rights. Thank you Wayne Lapeirre.
