Here's what we know about the alleged Colorado shooter.
He is 24 years old and attended high school in San Diego California. He was student at University of Colorado School of Medicine studying Neurology.
According to police, Holmes was armed with an AR-15 rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and two .40-caliber handguns at the time of the shooting. He was wearing head-to-toe tactical gear as well as a gas mask.
He was dressed a the Batman villain Joker when he entered the theater, according the NYPD.
Local news reports claim that Holmes purchased a ticket to Batman, sat and watched for about 15 minutes. He then left out of the emergency exit and returned to his car. This is when he grabbed his weapons and began the assault.
According to Aurora Police Holmes shot 71 people. 12 are now dead.
His apartment is rigged with trip wires and explosives. Authorities are not sure when they will be able to disarm them all.
He is currently in custody of police.

A young American woman who narrowly missed a deadly shooting at Toronto's Eaton Centre last month was among the victims of a deadly shooting at a Colorado movie theatre on Friday.
Jessica Ghawi was killed when a gunman in a gas mask barged into a crowded Denver-area theatre during a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," hurled a gas canister and then opened fire, killing 12 people and injuring at least 50 others.
The suspected shooter — 24-year-old James Holmes — was arrested shortly after the attack near a car outside the multiplex theatre in Aurora, Colo.
Ghawi, who visited Toronto last month, had written on her blog on June 5 that she was eating inside of the Eaton Centre food court when an "odd feeling" made her walk out of the shopping mall just minutes before shots rang out.
"It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how a weird feeling saved me from being in the middle of a deadly shooting," she wrote.
"'What started off as a trip to the mall to get sushi and shop, ended up as a day that has forever changed my life."
Ghawi, who had moved from San Antonio to Denver to pursue her dream of becoming a TV sportscaster, also described in her blog how the Toronto shooting made think about life and mortality.
"I was shown how fragile life was on Saturday," she said. "I saw the terror on bystanders’ faces. I saw the victims of a senseless crime. I saw lives change. I was reminded that we don’t know when or where our time on Earth will end. When or where we will breathe our last breath."
Local media reported that Ghawi, who also goes by the name Jessica Redfield, was at the theatre watching the movie with long-time friend Brent Lowak, who was shot once and is undergoing surgery.
Ghawi's family confirmed to local media that Jessica had been fatally wounded in the shooting, while her brother Jordan twitted "this could easily be the worst night of my life."

Five people were shot and one of them, 24-year old Ahmed Hassan, who was targeted, died. Another, believed targeted, succumbed to injuries on June 11. Others were injured in the panic as people fled the area, including a 28-year-old pregnant woman who began undergoing labour but did not give birth. According to Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair, Hassan may have had gang affiliations and was specifically targeted, as well as perhaps one other victim.[13][14][15] On June 4, 23-year-old Christopher Husbands turned himself in to authorities, and was charged with first-degree murder and six counts of attempted murder in connection with the attack. If anyone is this whole thing shouldn't have a security clearance...which there are varying levels of so I don't see why anyone thinks she's got access to all that much national security information in the first place.........but back to point. People saw him come in with the other movie-goers, dressed and made up as the Joker... About 15 minutes into the movie, they saw him get a cell phone call... Instead of going into the hallway, as most patrons do, he went out THROUGH THE EMERGENCY EXIT right of the screen... I assume he taped over the latch as he left, so he could get back in... His car, with his equipment, was parked right outside his exit... He put on his gear, readied his guns and came back in... The rest is history...
Simple, easy and doesn't require a conspiracy... Even the phone call is easily arranged, by calling himself with a second cell phone... He just needed the excuse to rig the door...

The NRA are unfortunately the ones who are responsible for allowing this type of ammunition to be able to be bought legally. Romney is given a lot of money by the NRA and both he and the rest of the GOP have blocked amendments to the gun law. Let us face it money and power are responsible for this terrible, terrible crime.
There are people out there who are mentally sick but unfortunately they are able to purchase any weapon they require.
Get onto the backs of the NRA and the GOP and make them change these terrible gun laws. This has been going on for far too long.

I know alot of people want to go to the gun control issue. However, the REAL issue is the funding of the public schools. Schools that have enough, have school Psycologists who mentor and deal with students that are already exhibiting disinfranchised behaviour. Trust me....the schools...even in the elementary schools know who these students are. with the proper amount of educational support, stuff like this would be nipped at the bud. But to increase a school budget?? nobody wants to hear that. But trust me...if you did....you would realize that you wouldnt't need the gun control that you so desire...because these individuals would be DEFUSED by professionals early on like other normal people.
Let'sl look at the statistics of the schools these kids come from.
