Mitt Romney received 14 seconds of booing from the NAACP convention in Houston, TX, after he said he would repeal Obamacare. The NAACP's Hilary Shelton and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter join Ed Schultz to discuss the reception Romney received.
When Mitt Romney spoke to the NAACP convention in Houston, yesterday, he was short on specifics and long on tepid generalities.
You've probably already heard that he was booed a few times, especially when he promised to repeal Obamacare. But Romney did receive some polite applause during the speech and a brief standing ovation at the end.
The NAACP released a statement thanking Romney for coming, but pointed out that his positions are a tough sell for in the African-American community.
"Unfortunately, much of his agenda is at odds with what the NAACP stands for - whether the issue is equal access to affordable health care, reforming our education system or the path forward on marriage equality."
For example, Romney has called for continued cuts in public sector jobs. African-Americans are 30% more likely to work in the public sector than non-black workers.
He also supports voter ID laws that could disenfranchise 25% of black voters.
And Romney’s tax plan would raise taxes on those making less than $30,000 a year, while people on the opposite end of the scale get a tax cut. The median income for African-American households is about $32,068.
Romney didn't talk about any of these things yesterday, for if he had, he would've been booed many more times.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The notoriously slow Congress passed the $787 billion economic stimulus package in a matter of weeks. President Obama signed it into law less than one month into his presidency.
So, just how soon will Americans start reaping the benefits of tax cuts in it?
By April 1, according to the president.
"Never before in our history has a tax cut taken effect faster or gone to so many hardworking Americans," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address.
He said the Treasury Department has begun directing employers to reduce the amount of taxes withheld from people's paychecks in accordance with the new law, and that in six weeks, a typical family will start taking home at least $65 more every month.
Obama says his signature "Making Work Pay" tax break will affect 95% of working families.
The $400 credit for individuals is to be doled out through the rest of the year. Couples are slated to get up to $800. Most workers are to see about a $13 per week increase in their take-home pay. In 2010, the credit would be about $7.70 a week, if it is spread over the entire year.
People who do not earn enough money to owe income taxes are eligible for the credit, an attempt to offset the payroll taxes they pay.

On December 17, 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law H.R. 4853, The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. This important tax extenders bill includes federal tax changes for individuals at all levels of income.
Obama Tax Cuts Extended Lower Tax Rate Tables, Added Payroll Tax Withholding Benefit
Among other provisions, this tax extenders bill provides continued tax relief to individuals in the form of low tax rates, alternative minimum tax relief, estate tax relief, investment incentives, and temporarily lower payroll taxes. Certain enhanced tax credits were also extended; even estate tax relief made the cut.
Obama Signs New Tax Cut Extension Bill – H.R. 4853 Includes 2% Social Security Tax Break
Perhaps the most unique economic stimulus break in the tax extenders bill is the temporaryreduction in Social Security taxes. For one year only (2011), individual taxpayers will only pay 4.2% in payroll taxes, a 2% reduction from the normal 6.2% rate.
Basically, instead of withholding 6.2%, employers will only withhold 4.2% from employee paychecks. As such, this tax benefit will come in the form of more take-home pay, not a physical check.
Federal Tax Changes for Individuals in 2011, 2012 Include Expanded Tax Credits
The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 contains many beneficial tax provisions for low income and middle class American families. Upon signing the tax cut bill, President Obama authorized a 2% reduction in withholding taxes for working Americans. And instead of jumping back up to a low tax bracket of 15%, the lowest tax bracket in 2011 and 2012 will continue to be 10%.
In addition to the Bush tax cuts, the 2010 tax cut bill also extends certain 2009 Recovery Act tax benefits for two more years, including the enhanced Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit, and American Opportunity Tax Credit.

Actualy I have to give the black folks credit for being smart enough to get the free stuff. I actualy have a black friend who told me that they had programs at his church that goes over what the gov is offering free. I have another friend who filled out the paper work for the black farmer check. I asked her had she ever farmed, she said no but her ancestors did. I said well I have farmed and my ancestors were sharecroppers but of course I couldnt get a check because of my skin color. So I know a little about being decrimanted against because had I not been white I could have got me a check too.
