Years from now, historians may regard the 2008 election of Barack Obama as an inscrutable and disturbing phenomenon, the result of a baffling breed of mass hysteria akin perhaps to the witch craze of the Middle Ages. How, they will wonder, did a man so devoid of professional accomplishment beguile so many into thinking he could manage the world's largest economy, direct the world's most powerful military, execute the world's most consequential job? Imagine a future historian examining Obama's pre-presidential life: ushered into and through the Ivy League despite unremarkable grades and test scores along the way; a cushy non-job as a "community organizer"; a brief career as a state legislator devoid of legislative achievement (and in fact nearly devoid of his attention, so often did he vote "present"); and finally an unaccomplished single term in the United States Senate, the entirety of which was devoted to his presidential ambitions.
He left no academic legacy in academia, authored no signature legislation as a legislator. And then there is the matter of his troubling associations: the white-hating, America-loathing preacher who for decades served as Obama's "spiritual mentor"; a real-life, actual terrorist who served as Obama's colleague and political sponsor. It is easy to imagine a future historian looking at it all and asking: how on Earth was such a man elected president?
Not content to wait for history, the incomparable Norman Podhoretz addressed the question recently in the Wall Street Journal: To be sure, no white candidate who had close associations with an outspoken hater of America like Jeremiah Wright and an unrepentant terrorist like Bill Ayers, would have lasted a single day. But because Mr. Obama was black, and therefore entitled in the eyes of liberaldom to have hung out with protesters against various American injustices, even if they were a bit extreme, he was given a pass. Let that sink in: Obama was given a pass - held to a lower standard - because of the color of his skin.
Podhoretz continues: And in any case, what did such ancient history matter when he was also so articulate and elegant and (as he himself had said) "non-threatening," all of which gave him a fighting chance to become the first black president and thereby to lay the curse of racism to rest? Podhoretz puts his finger, I think, on the animating pulse of the Obama phenomenon - affirmative action. Not in the legal sense, of course. But certainly in the motivating sentiment behind all affirmative action laws and regulations, which are designed primarily to make white people, and especially white liberals, feel good about themselves.
Unfortunately, minorities often suffer so that whites can pat themselves on the back. Liberals routinely admit minorities to schools for which they are not qualified, yet take no responsibility for the inevitable poor performance and high drop-out rates which follow. Liberals don't care if these minority students fail; liberals aren't around to witness the emotional devastation and deflated self-esteem resulting from the racist policy that is affirmative action. Yes, racist. Holding someone to a separate standard merely because of the color of his skin - that's affirmative action in a nutshell, and if that isn't racism, then nothing is.
And that is what America did to Obama. True, Obama himself was never troubled by his lack of achievements, but why would he be? As many have noted, Obama was told he was good enough for Columbia despite undistinguished grades at Occidental; he was told he was good enough for the US Senate despite a mediocre record in Illinois ; he was told he was good enough to be president despite no record at all in the Senate. Al l his life, every step of the way, Obama was told he was good enough for the next step, in spite of ample evidence to the contrary.
What could this breed if not the sort of empty narcissism on display every time Obama speaks? In 2008, many who agreed that he lacked executive qualifications nonetheless raved about Obama's oratory skills, intellect, and cool character. Those people - conservatives included - ought now to be deeply embarrassed.
The man thinks and speaks in the hoariest of cliches, and that's when he has his Teleprompters in front of him; when the prompter is absent he can barely think or speak at all.
Not one original idea has ever issued from his mouth – it's all warmed-over Marxism of the kind that has failed over and over again for 100 years.
And what about his character? Obama is constantly blaming anything and everything else for his troubles. Bush did it; it was bad luck; I inherited this mess. It is embarrassing to see a president so willing to advertise his own powerlessness, so comfortable with his own incompetence.
But really, what were we to expect? The man has never been responsible for anything, so how do we expect him to act responsibly?
In short: our president is a small and small-minded man, with neither the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job.
When you understand that, and only when you understand that, will the current erosion of liberty and prosperity make sense. It could not have gone otherwise with such a man in the Oval Office.
everybody duck! it's a BS attack!!!!!
I Thought that the gop was concerned about Jobs - Oh Thats rite - thats why They Continue to Skirt The Issue and just happen to Mention it-- once in awhile - But then They go Back to there Obstruction === TREASONOUS - They Are - Flat out= Plain and Simple !!!! I For One am Sick of These Goofballs Getting a Free-Ride on OUR Taxpayer Dollars - Talk about Wasting Taxpayer Money !!!!
The GOP job concern was to get elected. That was 2 years ago. Long gone.

I liked the country better when First Lady Michele Obama was still ashamed to be an American.
this coming from a guy who voted for bush not once, but twice.
Probably 3 or 4 times.
I liked it better when you were in your hole.
At least we're ashamed YOU'RE an American.
MEchelle is stay ashamed to be an American but she sure loves the perks of being first lady. She is as low class as her husband!
Silly of them to stay in the White House just because he was elected President.
I could of written this health care bill on one page.......keep the kids on parents plan until age 26, no deniel over coverage including pre-existing conditions. But NOOOOOOOOOO, President Obama and the Democrat controlled congress had to over reach and create an unaffordable and unsustainable entitlement on top of two others (Medicare and Social Security) that are going broke. I'm just average guy, average income, trying to put kids through college who thought the President was going to put jobs and the economic well being of the country first, but instead he made a land grab and messed things up worse. He just plain wasted the first two years of his Presidency.
And your version would have never stood up in congress let alone a court of law because you have to write bills to with stand legal challenges and I doubt you could pull it off.
Since the righties are running today, this post's for them:
Your heroes, the Koch Brothers, never ones to turn down a free deal, applied for health-reform subsidies the day Obama's health care bill passed. They liked it pretty well, and still do!
Their brutal attacks continue to this day, against "Obamacare", but they are using it. What a bunch of greedy, lying hypocrites you people follow.
So are many of the T-Pocrites in congress who voted to repeal it 33 times. LMAO! Man, they are gooood! They have no shame.
I'd rather not be drug into this Democrat vs. Republican crap, the health care bill is an absolute train wreck for the American tax payer and both small and large busnesses. The focus of the President in the first two years should of been to put the economy back on track in the LONG TERM. Instead, we got a 800 billion dollar stimulus package that was nothing but payback and in the end helped companies like GENERAL ELECTRIC move the jobs out of the country. Pretty sad, a job czar that is moving jobs to China and India and paying no taxes on 5 billion dollars of 2011 proft. And President Obama doesn't blink an eye. SAD.
wrong again teabagger, the train wreck is the house 'baggers wasting 50 million of taxpayer dollars feeding their idiotic base by voting to repeal hcr for the 33 time. BS seems to be the most common trait among you 'conservative' lol teabaggers.
John in Texas, Welcome to Groundhog Day in our great T-Party driven, Koch controlled congress!
And we PAY these freaks?
Well davydog, the best way to stay out of it is, leave. Don't let the door hit you on your way out. I'm glad to say you will not be missed.
HOUSE REPUBLICANS VOTE TO REPEAL HEALTH CARE
That pretty much says it all.
They'd vote to repeal democracy if they could.
And now we wait for Harry to put it up for a vote on the senate floor
Just like we are waiting for him to put the Obama Bush tax cut bill that would raise the taxes of anyone who makes over 250,000 that was recently introduced on the floor
Can any one dare to explain why he wont on either
Because they are worthless pieces of crap not worth the paper they were written on. If it comes out of agent oranges congress its a turd and no one wants to take a bite out of a turd except tea bagged republicans.
So the Bill to raise the taxes on anyone who makes over 250,000 dollars " Is a worthless piece of crap not worth the paper written on" the same Bill that Obama introduced
LoL this is Beautiful an Obama supporter telling us that the Obama tax Bill "is a worthless piece of crap" and that is why Harry wont put it up for a vote
Obama's record on taxes seems to be lost on the trolls, Whomit. Can you pull up that link that says where his are LOWER than anyone's?
The one where he has lowered taxes 18 times and NEVER raised them? EVER?
Yes, it is contrary to the GOP's BIG LIE, Foxes repetition of that BIG LIE, and it is still a BIG LIE that he has raised taxes.
I would like to see President Obama introduce a bill that permanently lowers the tax rate for those making less than 250 thousand a year by 30 perecent. Bottom line, we would see how committed both Dems and Reps are committed to the middle class. Plus, I can pay the same tax rate as Warren Buffet.... he can keep his money for all I care as lone as I get the same tax rate.
India...
with all due respect, you are mistaken in your statement that Obama has never raised taxes...
These are already implemented according to Politifact.org
Increasing the federal excise tax on tobacco.
A 10 percent excise tax on indoor tanning services
Imposing an annual fee on manufacturers and importers of branded drugs, based on each company’s share of the total market.
Increasing corporate taxes by making it more difficult for businesses to engage in activities that reduce their tax liability.
These are coming up soon...
Increasing the hospital insurance portion of the payroll tax from 2.9 percent to 3.8 percent for couples earning more than $250,000 a year, or $200,000 for single filers
Applying the 3.8 percent hospital insurance tax to investment income for couples earning more than $250,000 a year, or $200,000 for single filers, for the first time.
A 2.3 percent excise tax on manufacturers and importers of certain medical devices
Raise the 7.5 percent adjusted gross income floor for the medical expenses deduction to 10 percent
Annual fee levied on health insurance providers, based on each company’s share of the total market
Limiting the amount taxpayers can deposit in flexible spending accounts to $2,500 a year
Eliminating the corporate deduction for prescription expenses for retirees
Increasing taxes on health insurance companies by limiting the amount of compensation paid to certain employees that they can deduct from their taxes.
A 40 percent excise tax on employer-provided "Cadillac" health insurance plans costing more than $10,200 for individuals and $27,500 for families
Additionally, there is reason to believe that the reason for the lower effective tax rate is because of the dramatic increase in the unemployment rate in this country and the lower average income for the American worker under Obama.
just saying...
Poor capt a still whining and still trying to make that good old Reagan Lie work when history shows that the countries problems started with GOP borrow and spend trickle down bull@!$%#.
Whomit, can you link up that bit about Obama having the lowest taxes since, I don't know when? There is a chart or something and I don't recall how to find it.
India....did you read the article you posted? It supports EXACTLY what I proposed as being a reason for the decline...
In part, the tax decline was due to the dramatic decrease in average income that year, an effect of the Great Recession that caused many Americans to slide down into lower tax brackets. In 2009, the average household income was $88,400, according to the Financial Times, notably less than the $101,000 average in 2007. The top 1 percent of earners saw their income decrease by more than a third.
I guess that is something for the Obama administration to be proud of...dropping the average household income by nearly $17000 and the income of the top 1% by more than a third. Thanks Obama...
just saying...
I am very angry with House Speaker Boehner urinating away time on another fruitless vote to repeal the ACA. Where are those jobs bills Speaker Boehner? I am still waiting for the GOP to come up with a decent health care bill that will allow 50 million uninsured to find affordable health care. I have blogged for years and referenced and sourced these numbers timelessly. If conservatives don't believe the statements below get off your lazy stupid butts and go look them up yourself. Here is the world the prompted the ACA into law, lest pygmy sized conservative brains forget:
1. 50 million Americans are uninsured. We should expect this number to increase to at least 70 or even 80 million uninsured without ACA by 2020.
2. At least 20 million Americans are under-insured. Remember, this number keeps growing as more and more Americans pay ever increasing out of pocket expenses in the form of co-pays, deductibles, and other fees on top of increasing premiums. All of these fees cost many thousands of dollars out of family's budgets. It also means those extra thousands of dollars are taken out of the Main Street economy and given to health insurance corporations. The middle class has no money to increase demand for goods and services in the Main Street economy so our economic recovery remains anemic. We can expect this number of uninsured to nearly double by 2020 without ACA in place.
3. 45,000 uninsured Americans die from treatable conditions annually. The number of deaths will grow without ACA in place.
4. At least one million bankruptcies are filed because of expensive medical bills annually. We can expect this number to rise without the ACA in place.
5. Family health insurance costs will double to $26,000 annually by 2020 up from about $13,000 in 2010. ACA when fully implemented will help keep costs from going up as rapidly. Family health care costs doubled from $6,000 to $13,000 from 1999 to 2009.
Point number five is the most important to focus in on like a laser beam cutting through steel. The median income for Americans in 2007 was about $54,000 annually. This means that there are 150 million Americans in the lower median group in 2020 who will be in danger of being uninsured or under-insured. These Americans work for small businesses and small companies that will no longer be able to afford health insurance for their employees. Our health care system will implode like the Soviet Union at the end of of the Cold war. The Affordable Care Act will help in stabilizing costs and will prop up our health care system for a time. I can not help but believe that the ACA is but a temporary stop on the journey towards a Medicare for all public option. This Medicare for all public option is the ultimate fix to our problems in America. It is the only proven way to stabilize health care costs ad provide universal coverage for all people who live in an industrialized nation state.
Obama's ACA does NOT raise taxes. That' s a LIE.
http://slatest.slate.com/posts/2012/07/11/record_low_taxes_in_2009_americans_paid_lowest_tax_rates_in_30_year_.html
Obama has cut taxes 18 times and has a great record of keeping taxes LOW!
Gotoleft, Europe has fallen under the austerity program. It is not working. They, not we, need to reevaluate their system. Obama's way may be slow, but we are coming along in the road to recovery.
Excuse me, but did you think we'd recover from the Bush disaster in 2,3 years? You need to speak to an economist if you believe that!
"The mills of the gods grind slowly,
but they grind exceedingly fine." Alexander Pope (I have always liked that saying.)
Obama also has a record of causing the average household income to drop by nearly 17% in one year...way to go Obama!
Want proof...read the article that India referenced up above...
just saying...
I will give you 10 minuted to retract that statement that ACA didn't raise taxes before i make a fool out of you
your 10 min are up i warned you
2013 medicare tax will be raised to 2.9% from 1.9%
2013 medical devises tax will be raised by 2.3%
2014 a new tax will levied on insurance companies
2018 we will have a 40% excise tax raised on high end insurance plans
those are just a few but enough to show you are an idiot that doesn't have a clue what he is talking about
You make a fool out of you with that accusation. Who the hell do you think you are? I'll tell you. A nobody. A Fox Lies talking point machine. You've never posted a link but want everybody to do you homework for you. Get lost or get real. And about one more threat will be sent to the vine.
And NOT one source. NOT one link. And please explain why we should believe a word out of your mouth. Once again you made a fool out of yourself. Do your homework. Sorry, you proved you can't.
LOL, I have you on ignore, Idiot. I pulled you up by accident! You do not know what you are talking about and YOU are the fool, not me. You aren't smart enough to make a fool out of me. You delude yourself.
Hi, Larry, I almost missed that insult. I hit him by accident! Thanks for the support. He's back on ignore, so let him rant and call me an idiot and he'll get banned.
Yeah India, you claimed you put me om ignore but continued to respond to my posts.
You continue to post idiotic statements with no basis in facts or reality
Just another brainwashed libtard!
TFR...notice how they can not refute the facts, but attack the poster. Typical leftie ploy...you would think that all of the liberal brain power would be able to provide evidence that you were wrong, yet not a one of them can. Now the next step will be for them to say that they have proven you wrong several times, even though they haven't. Or they will say that you are wrong and you have to go look it up yourself...
just saying..
I am beginning to believe that Ed is the basis for the Will character from Newsroom. Ironic that Ed's view is that it was not a waste of time to create the bill and then pass it using more backroom deals then in a season of Dallas. Last I heard about jobs from Ed was his predictions about Obama green jobs, and how the stimulus worked..how it is now OK to deficit spend, how the Obama programs are all working..consistency is all the viewers ask for
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^RE-REG = Again^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
MD, what's this, the third time for him?
Hey Larry - NO ---- Try About 10-12 times !!!!
TRFjr: I am sick and tired of ignorant statements made by conservatives about health care. Conservatives need to be mindful of the unsustainable financial gouging that health insurance companies employ annually in the form of ever higher co-pays, deductibles, and fees tacked onto our health insurance policies. Remind yourself of the fact that middle class Americans and small businesses faced 10% to 15% premium increases every year for decades for health insurance policies. Some places in California increased premiums over 20% as did others around the country for health insurance. This is a "tax" that we all get to pay for that is tearing the financial guts out of the middle class across the country. Another "tax" that we all get to pay for is the $1100 added onto our premiums when an uninsured person goes to the ER for treatment.Do you give a damn about the lives of Americans in this country? 45,000 uninsured Americans die annually from treatable conditions. This number was substantiated by a study from the Harvard Medical School. Another one million Americans file for bankruptcy because of expensive medical costs. What does the GOP propose to do about these 45,000 deaths and one million bankruptcies? These numbers drag down our economy and Asian countries with single payer systems pull ahead of us.
Your conservative solution for the health insurance crisis is what? Where are your GOP solutions for getting affordable health insurance for 50 million uninsured Americans? I am waiting for your solutions to these problems. If you do not offer solutions to these problems why don't you just shut your stupid ignorant mouth and get off of this blog because you are not helping America solve its problems. Maybe if one of those 45,000 uninsured Americans who died were somebody in your family your might look at this issue differently while standing over their grave.
Ignorance never produces solutions, Rex. The GOP, run by the Koch brother's T-Party, are not about solutions to the average American's problems.
They have a different agenda.
What kills me is the Koch brothers are using the ACA. They scream against it, and attack it, but the minute the bill passed, the Koch brothers applied for health-reform subsidies which are provided under the law.!!! Billionaires like those good deals. What hypocrites!
your missing it, come up with something that IS NOT controlled by a central government. 50% of the country's health care costs are ALREADY controlled through the government programs, look at your stats through that view. Oh, the stats come from Harvard then it must be true ...so in your world, you believe you are the only one who cares, your group tends to get emotional and resorts to personal attacks to anyone who does not agree with you. What is so concerning about your position is, you truly believe that the federal government solves these problems, despite the overwhelming evidence that centralized government has failed over and over (government control ;foreign policy, border mgmt, banking system; issuing of debt).
irish, you are so off-base it does not deserve a response.
irisheagle strikes again.
My health insurance premiums have gone up a total of $5 in three years, my coverage has not changed and my out of pocket has remained the same...maybe you need to do some shopping around and find a new plan...
just saying
Obamacare raises the minimum deductibility from $7500 to $10,000, then claims this helps the middle class...really, how does that math work. Ed has to be the who the character from the Newsroom is based on, because they both spew the same stats. This is from the party that had a stranglehold on congress for the better part of the previous century. The thought that creating a 2 trillion dollar tax hike is should not be discussed, well, it defies logic. Ed told us the stimulus work work, green jobs would appear, economy would roar back...he was 100% wrong. This tax bill, only passed with more back room deals than a season of JR Ewing. Jefferson is spinning in his grave with the thought of a Federal government exerting that much control over its citizens.
I'm sorry you are a re reg and as a re reg your opinion around here is about as good as Mittens treatment of family pets. So go take it back to free republic as you will be seeing another ban soon.
whomitmay, Can you bring up that chart that shows Obama's tax record?
Link it up?
India sorry I lost it too.
Conservatives need to pull their heads out of their rectums on health care. Bitch, moan, scream, and getting wrapped up into a pissing contest is all the GOP is about these days. When did the GOP ever start caring about the country? Want to talk about freedom? America is the only industrialized country on this earth that does not have universal health care. All people will get sick or hurt at sometime in their lives. All Americans need health care access for preventive care, vaccinations, checkups, and women's health care for well baby, prenatal, and family planning programs. I still do not hear a coherent Republican health care plan that will allow those 50 million uninsured Americans to go to the doctor when they get sick or hurt? The GOP has not offered a coherent plan on health care for 30 years. Profits for health insurance corporations are more important than the lives of middle class and working class people who are uninsured. What a pathetic excuse of a party. Conservatives bring out the very worst in America every single day. Conservatives wanted tax cuts for the rich during a time of two wars. These policies are the reason for our trillion dollar deficits today. Still waiting for that GOP health care plan that will get health insurance for 50 million uninsured Americans?
The stimulus should have been closer to $1.5 trillion rather than the $787 billion that it was. Then again, President Obama's American Jobs Act would have created or saved two million jobs in construction or in public sector jobs that were saved. How many bills has the GOP filibustered in the last three and a half years that would have help create jobs and rebuild our infrastructure? The GOP has filibustered hundreds of bills, many of which would have helped grow our economy.
I know who Rex is now..Nurse Ratched
actually the GOP is lost. no Reagan no McCarthy. no fightin commies. now they embrace the Grove and the Koch. man o man....do they need a Teddy bear....no not that Teddy the one that gave a damn...........charge..........on........teapubs........
