While working at Bain Capital in 1997, Mitt Romney set up a company in Bermuda that was used for various projects, including Bain's takeover of Domino's Pizza. Romney says he doesn't know much about the company and that it is in a blind trust. Critics argue that the company is among holdings that have not been fully disclosed. Rebecca Wilkins, Senior Counsel at Citizens for Tax Justice and Benji Sarlin of Talking Points Memo discuss the details.
119 days until the election and Mitt Romney is still hiding his wealth. And Democrats are on the attack.
Tonight, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley will answer Ed’s questions about Romney’s obsession with secrecy.
Romney is reminiscing about the good old days of President Bill Clinton, but has his facts all wrong. Jonathan Alter, MSNBC Political Analyst and Bloomberg View Columnist, will explain.
The voter suppression story in Pennsylvania just got uglier. Why was a Romney fundraiser paid $250,000 to run the state's voter ID “education” campaign?
Ed will ask the Big Panel, including Donna Lieberman, Executive Director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, Jon Bramnick, NJ Assembly GOP Leader, and Catherine Crier, attorney and best-selling author (“Patriot Acts: What Americans Must do to Save the Republic”).
An out-of-control Republican House is about to vote to repeal Obamacare for the 31st time.
Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) says Republicans are playing games and he joins Ed tonight.
Florida governor Rick Scott is answering charges that his administration covered up a tuberculosis outbreak so they could shut down a government hospital. Ed will have the details on that.
And in the Big Finish, budget cuts force the mayor of Scranton, Pennsylvania, to slash wages for public workers. Now unions are taking the issue to court. Ed will ask John Judge, President of Scranton Firefighters Local 60, IAFF, what the pay cut means to his family.

OMG, Have they no shame.....if they run this man for president and condone all this so called legal fraud, they don't. If Willard buys his election as he does everything he ever gets in life, he will still be a loser!
Big deal, "Job Czar to President Obama" GE CEO Jeffery Immelt and company paid no taxes on 5 billion dollars of 2011 profit....pure profit that was all booked in overseas accounts. Tell me, how hypocritically obscene is that? This is a man who sits with the President advising him on job creation. No outrage from the President, no outrage from Dick Durbin and where's the media on this one? Romney is nothing compared to what President Obama and General Electric are combining to do. Blatent tax fraud, massive outsourcing by GE, GE shipping jobs to China and India with tax payer funded stimulus. All happening as we speak, right in front of the American people.
Ed show staff what about Michelle Bachmann's claim recently that our government's Justice Department, Homeland Security, National Security Agency has "deep penetration" by the Muslim Brotherhood.
I love Michelle Bachmann she says the darndest things
Every time something comes up about mitt's money he says it's a blind trust and he knows nothing about it. WTF! Either he's a good businessman managing his money wisely or he throws it into a blind trust and reaps the profits. Can't have it both ways. If I had that much money I would want to know what's being done with it. He's irresponsible with his money at best. More likely he knows full well how his money is being used and why.
Why would anyone vote for someone so bent on hoarding his wealth?
What is odd is Mitt Romney's assertion that he does not even know what is being done with his money or where exactly it may be because it is in a blind trust and being managed by someone else.
Really? What sort of person would not even know where his money/financial security is, what is happening to it, and even how much of it is left? Thought business folks kept a close eye on the bottom line and balances...
Is anyone really that trusting especially in this day and age where it is quite possible to be ponzied, wiped out, crashed upon, monies lost a la WS?
No one is that trusting or careless re money these days imo.
Another thing is, under the circumstances with his ability to be blindly trusting, how does he know that what is being presented on his tax returns is really right or his statements balances are actually correct i.e. true?
Blindly leaving all your wealth and trusting someone else -no matter how supposedly trustworthy that person may be is ......come to think of it.... there is no one on the planet in his or her right mind that is that trusting or that blind when it comes to money no matter how little it may be, much less with that much wealth and ones financial security at stake - that is supposed to support you and your family for the rest of your life,- especially in this day and age post 2008 WS anyway imo.
Heck I might not have much, but I do check my bank statements especially these days, to make sure it is correct, and that there are the correct debits and deposits and that there are not some questionable fees added. LOL
But then I am not that trusting especially since 2008......can't say that I know anyone else who is.....either.....
Perhaps the rich are different after all........LOL
But, didn't Pres. Reagan - who was not short of a bob or two- mention something about 'trust but verify'? Hmmmm
Peace.... trust but verify your investments etc..... unless you have another fortune/income source somewhere else to tap into... or roughing it, poverty and hairshirts are your bag/penance.... LOL
The blind trust issue is hilarious not only because not all his investments mentioned are blind but because he himself has in the past been filed calling the idea a "ruse". There's tape showing Romney saying it's a ruse since a blind trust has rules, the trustee can't do whatever they want with the money so the idea the individual has no way of knowing or having influence is inaccurate.
Then there's the idea that even he really didn't know clearly everyone seems to so he's supposed to be this genius business man....that doesn't make you look good either.
Cynical,
he looks stupid or he's a liar.
which is worse?
Hi T-Mom, We the American people will also be the losers, most unfortunately,
No blind trust here, lorie 60.
this guy is the worst candidate for president of all time, a liar, even his republican debates showed he's a blatent liar,
What about the LIBOR Barclay's banking scandal. Huge deal which potentially even involves Timothy Geithner. After JP Morgan Chase loses two billion, actually more that almost as much as 9 billion.....which you guys also disappointly didn't talk about.
Come on Romney and the Republicans are the one's saying we don't need anymore regulations on the financial sector and the Dodd Frank has to go. Why not hit them on it?
Cynical... it seem that JPMChase flitted away more than 2 bil more like 12-16 bil or something in that ball park, if I am not mistaken. Thought I heard this on a discussion on another channel a week or more ago. When they finally find out how much they have flitted away it will probably be really mega mega bucks.
The JPM's money was never lost... as someone else i.e. some other entities other than TPMChase has those billions of dollars now. When something is lost it means you cannot find it. JPMChase knows where those monies are. Problem is that it no longer belongs to JPMChase now. They bet, they lost, the other guys won and are keeping the purse. LOL
Well, there goes the lowering of those usury moneylender level interest rates on their credit cards..... perhaps a credit card rate hike from 25% to 30% is coming soon... gotta make/get that money back somehow. LOL
Anyhoo, if these financial folks are so lax (trusting?) and casual (blind?) with investors/bank money already- even with some (watered down ) rules, regs and oversight already in place now- , and this sort of financial flitting away/ laxity is happening, imagine if they should really be given leave to totally police themselves..? ... Financial meltdown 2.-3.- 4.- 5.- 6.- 8. 0? LOL
Why isn't anyone asking the Church of Latter Day Saint's position on whether Willard is tithing to the fullest? Isn't he obligated to provide 10% of his FULL earnings to the church to remain in good standing?
Romney is considered to be a "bishop" and is incredibly involved in the LDS so I suspect that attack will go nowhere. Plus no one thinks anything involving mormonism is going to be an effective attack for the general election.
So I don't people really would care.
Sorry Mom, he is no slacker there.
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700218439/Mitt-Romney-hopes-millions-he-tithes-to-LDS-Church-isnt-politicized.html?pg=all
But if he does not know what is going on with the blind trust, the locations of the shelters, or the reason for the shelters and thus the amounts of taxes not paid on same etc... how can he actually be tithing at the 10%.
So, is that 10% tithe being based on his capital gains and (speaking fees) income that is actually invested/located in the USA alone? Shouldn't he be paying tithes on the cap gains rolledover into those taxsheltered accounts too?
If paying taxes is a game , as Sen. Graham says can i Pay mine in monopoly money next year?
Romney all by himself might be another entity but the hard right swing of the GOP has ruined any ability for them to govern. Political Scientists with PHD's say the same thing over and over. If you are going to govern America you have to do it from the center. President Obama is a good centrist President. In theory he should not have had all that much trouble getting the bulk of his agenda through the Congress. After all the ACA was originally a conservative idea. The Tea party hard right winged extremists can not govern a two car funeral. Radicals like these Tea party nutcases can screw up every budget they will lay their hands on. The Ryan budget will turn Medicare into a voucher system. It will decimate Social Security and government programs desperately needed to make our high technology society function. The Tea Party is totally incompatible with running a modern high tech society under the rule of the law. The rule of the law is also shaped by the best science and economic knowledge that grows with the society as it changes. The Tea Party wants to live in the 1950's or even the 19th century. If the Tea Party actually was able to do the things it wanted to do America would become a 3rd world cesspool. Even people who voted for the Tea Party would be furious at them once they actually started try and pass the Ryan Budget.
Infrastructure, research and development, the nurturing of new industries like biomass and renewables all need government support/subsidies to get on their feet. Corporations are not interested in taking on the burdens of national defense, disaster management, building roads, airports, dams, sewers, and electrical grids. Then we have the police, fire, public school teachers and city workers like the street maintenance crews. Corporations will never perform these types of services because they can not afford to take the long term 20 year viewpoint of government. Government builds roads and other infrastructure to last 40 to 50 years or longer. Corporations are worried about next quarters profits.
I don't see Senator Graham's comments about paying taxes as being a game. I want the United States to be a leader in education, state of the art infrastructure, science, technology such mass transit bullet trains and electric hybrid vehicles, and green energy. If we don't pay taxes into the system, particularly the wealthy paying more of their fair share, our public sector will shrivel up. We can not run our country under the Ryan budget and still be a world leader with a strong vibrant middle class. The Ryan budget that the Tea Party advocates will turn America into a 3rd world cesspool and guarantee that the 21st century will be an Asian one.
I think it is far past time that Willard gets audited by the IRS. In fact it should be a mandatory audit forr ALL political candidates regardless of party. A background check is mandatory, why not an IRS audit?
Do it, but lets also vet the current President who went from state senator to the white house in 5 years. Nancy Pelosi on the ACA "You have pass the ACA to find out whats in it". I guess we had to elect Obama to find out who he is and what he's all about. But Don't worry, he's "evolving".
time for work so the ppl on here can rent the basement from mom+dad try to pay the 79billion bill for food stamps prolly ppl on here get while they play on computer all day
November election is not about voting for Mitt Romney; it's about voting for or against President Obama...plain and simple. Romney is THE worst candidate to ever run for President.
Ed's Playbook.
Lie, smear decieve. Then take vacation at his resort in Canada.
A real man for the American worker. Can't spend his money here to boost the economy and help the middle class? Couldn't find a suitable buisness in the U.S. to buy and employ Americans? HA! The 14 Million dollar hipocrate.
ps. Where is Jessie Jackson Jr.? (Hint, Opiates)
80.000 jobs in June 85.000 on SSDI LOL
With the Bush Tax cuts the job creators can only create 80,000? Need more tax breaks?
Re: Voter IDs: there are millions of fake IDS in use in the US; used mostly by whites. If we apply Republicans' logic for requiring voter IDs to solve the so-called problem of a few dozen cases of voter fraud, then they should be campaigning on the need for Voter DNA-tests and a national ID card for everyone!
Requiring a driver's or gun license in order to vote is a joke when one considers how much easier it is to get a fake ID.
If voter fraud is their true concern, Republicans should be introducing laws that require a new national ID, issued with DNA tests, finger-prints, and SS numbers. They should turn to Big Brother.
Maybe a few smart Democrats should introduce such a bill - just to demonstrate the absurdity of it all.
