Gop obstruction is causing slower job growth. If GOP instead of filibustering and obstructing all President Obama's job plans we would have plenty of jobs in America. It is GOP whom want President Obama to be one time president should be held accountable. GOP work with President we can go far far more ahead.
Obstruction of the congress to allow Obama to encourage growth of the economy is the problem. Money, makes jobs and money. Encourage the growth of the economy by creating cash flow and jobs is the problem. Neither Congress or the President create jobs...despite what they say. It is the flow of money that encourages it.
The Patriot Act allowed police to conduct racial profiling, which resulted in 1 million deportations and 1.7 million other immigrants that left the country voluntarily. States banned drivers licenses for immigrants then confiscated/sold vehicles from unlicensed drivers.
That eliminated almost 3 million consumers between 2007 and 2010 when the population finally stabilized. Over 1 million "abandoned" cars were sold, which collapsed the automotive industry. About 3 million dwellings were abandoned, which collapsed the real estate, banking, and construction industries.
Consumer demand creates jobs, and the current problem is that the workers in industries affected by the population decline need to be re-educated into new professions.
Republicans are blocking education and immigration in order to make the problem worse on purpose.
of course it because of repuke obstruction, this all they know to do. remember the repukes dirst priority is to make him a one turn pres. also on a somewhat bit of good news, OBAMA did sign the small jobs bill congress sent to him before they went on another undeserved break. OBAMA 2012.
Republicans have decided from day ONE to obstruct any policy that Obama proposes, and this jobs bill that they should have passed long time ago would have created millions of jobs. President can't create job but his policies will help create jobs. Republicans don't want those millions jobs, because that can assure Obama re-election. I sy SHAME on republicans!
During a recession spending is the recipe for success. Roosevelt did it with the WPA. Reagan, Bush Sr. and Jr. did it by creating public sector jobs. The new GOP is not helping and clueless with the cuts they demand.....we've been at war for over a decade and it still needs to be paid for....which means taxes are supposed to go up for the wealthiest. The new GOP is bassackwards and in office for two things. To make Obama a one term President and cause our economy to implode. Then the elite can "take care of us". Facists!!
The elitist hoarding money makes the whole situation much, much more worse. And Willard wants to be POTUS. Uffda!!
I, personally don't want the elitists "taking care" of me, mainly because it would probably involve an internment camp, or worse. I can think of NOTHING worse than the Repubs taking control of this country. It should scare the Hell out of EVERYONE!!
Consumer demand is the real solution, and spending is half the equation.
Undocumented immigrants were created by imposing a $1,500 employment fee. Employers don't want to pay this fee, and about 3 million consumers were deported or left after their property was confiscated.
The complete solution is more consumers, and right now that means immigration reform. The birth rate will make up for the loss of 3 million consumers in about 18 years when new births become consumers for things like cars and houses.
ICE prohibits employers from hiring immigrants unless no US citizens apply for a job after advertising for 30 days. Quite a few jobs have not been filled, and I know crops have been rotting in the fields near where I live because of that.
Firstly, the Repugs don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to failed economic policies. After 8 years of the Bush tax cuts, only 3 million jobs had been created in this country... many more jobs had been out sourced over seas... then 8 million jobs were lost in the course of GW Moron's last year in office.
In less than 1 term in office, President Obama's policies have stopped this country's bleeding of jobs to other countries, 4.4 million jobs have been created... which is more jobs than GW created in 2 terms in office and is over half of the jobs lost during Bush's last year have been recovered by Obama.
Oh yeah... I can see why Robme thinks President Obama's economic policies are failed ones and job killers. *rolls eyes* Because Robme is a dishonest, hypocritical @!$%#. I just wish Robme would campaign somewhere near my location. I would love to cause a spectacle at his rally by shouting these facts at him and calling him a lying hypocrite.
In Romney own word, he is a "creative of destruction." He destroy jobs to make a quick profit.
Mitt Romney King of Outsourcing Jobs oversea
FACT: Under Gov. Romney, MA outsourced jobs in child support enforcement, food stamps, and unemployment insurance overseas.
FACT: In 2004, Gov. Romney vetoed a bill that would have banned state contractors from outsourcing state work overseas.
FACT: As governor, Romney signed a $160,000/month contract that used taxpayer money for a consumer call center in India.
Mitt Romney's top economic adviser Greg Mankiw said the "offshoring" of American jobs was a good thing. No wonder, under Mitt Romney's leadership, Massachusetts ranked 47th among the 50 states in job creation. A Northeastern University economist found that Massachusetts lagged
“Mitt Romney’s financial company, Bain Capital, invested in a series of firms that specialized in relocating jobs done by American workers to new facilities in low-wage countries like China and India.
During the nearly 15 years that Romney was actively involved in running Bain, a private equity firm that he founded, it owned companies that were “pioneers” in the practice of shipping work from the United States to overseas call centers and factories making computer components, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.”
“In four of the seven Bain-owned companies that went bankrupt, Bain profited more than $400 million in gains” http://nyti dot ms/KE22jQ
Mitt and the junk bond king
“what distinguishes this deal from the nearly 100 others that Romney did over a 15-year period was his close work with Milken’s firm, Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. At the time of the deal, it was widely known that Milken and his company were under federal investigation, yet Romney decided to go ahead with the deal because Drexel had a unique ability to sell high-risk, high-yield debt instruments, known as “junk bonds.”
Do you know why the economy is sluggish? We have 3 category of spending in our economy.
1. Corporation 2. Consumers 3. Government
Do you know that corporation is sitting on 2 trillion dollars cash, but they're not spending, but they have created job oversea and invested in Romney Super PAC.
Do you know that 2/3 of middle class wealth is in their homes? So, what happen when their homes value went burst because of this financial crisis? Do think these people have money to spend?
Do you know why government needs to spend at recession? Because they're the only one left to keep the fluids running in the economy, just like fluid in your car. Economy is like a car engine, you cannot run a car without engine oil, however, Republican congress want to starve the engine. They have been sitting on President Job bill to fix aging infrastructure since last September, while they have passed all kind of bill to suppress women. No, wonder 61 % of moderate believes that GOP sabotages the economy for their own political gain this November.
I agree.... Robme is the Outsourcer in Chief. As I was saying yesterday, not only did Robme get rich by taking over corporations, firing the workers and outsourcing those jobs.... first he would run up the company's debts and take taxpayer subsidies ment to help those companies. Then he would bankrupt the company and leave with the tax payer money given to the corps, along with any of the pensions the workers had paid into.
So he really knew how to work the system to his advantage, his millions were obtained by stealing from both the workers whose jobs he outsourced, and the taxpayers in general by stealing those funds intended to prop up those struggling companies... then he hid his ill-gotten money in off shore accounts to avoid paying taxes on it even though it was tax payer money to start with.
The GOP always scream about ordinary middle class and working poor taking meager assistance in the way of unemployment or medicaid. Yet they certainly don't object at all to rich oil companies taking subsidies or corporate raiders like Robme profiting from taxpayer subsidies that they then pocket and walk away with leaving behind the ruined companies the money was meant to help.
The GOP call ordinary people who need welfare or food stamps to survive, "welfare cheats". But I say people who do what Robme did to make his millions are Swindlers... yet the GOP just make it legal and call it Capitalism and the free market.
The GOP, Koch bros, the oil companies, and everyone else who are taking their share of taxpayer $ under false pretenses are SWINDLERS & CROOKS AND ROBME IS THE HEAD SWINDLER & CROOK.
MJB, It scares me, too. Here we have an intelligent, thoughtful president who has several good job creating plans and the T-Party obstructionists in congress are keeping them from being passed. They've done this for two years now, and it is keeping the economy down. Now our brilliant Republican voters want to vote in Romney, and keep the T-Party congress intact. They want to keep the fox guarding the henhouse, so the wealth stays at the top 1%. You are the casualties, the collateral damage of their policies.
Why can't they wake up to who is the real culprit in holding us in a recession? If they vote Romney, they will be voting for the very people who've caused the problem and who have no intention of fixing it! They continue to blame Obama! Obama cannot pass bills!!!!!!
In addition, they will take away what little health care insurance millions of Americans NEED! This is life or death to many people and they will kill you before they'll give in! Their crazy ideology comes before people's very lives! It comes before their jobs! It comes first and will continue to do so under Romney. They do not care if most people live or die. People really need to understand what's at stake! Eight GOP T-party governors intend to REFUSE full coverage for Medicaid for their states. It will cost them nothing and help their state, yet they refuse the poor the care they need! Seems to me that's proof enough of the lack of compassion! What more do you need?
Do you know that corporation is sitting on 2 trillion dollars cash ... ?
Corporations are supposed to pay taxes on any funds that are not distributed.
That includes the $2 trillion sitting idle in bank vaults.
Wealthy people are contributing to Romney so that he will eliminate taxes that would eventually effect this $2 trillion in idle cash.
The real issue is that the wealthiest people in the country are white supremacist, and they refuse to pay taxes to a government that is headed by an African American.
Biden gave a speech in PA today to some teachers. He made the point to ask them to read the GOP's budget proposal. I guess, in his defense, he would rather have them look at the GOP's budget proposal than look at Obama's budget proposal.
The talk about bipartisianship being dead is not true at all. Everyone from both parties voted against it. Now, that's Congress working together. Both sides of the aisle recognizes Obama's abilities on the economy- Zero votes.
Somewhere above, Romney is blamed for running up the debt of corporations. Congress (those in charge) have run our debt into the trillions. I do not see any difference except corporations can declare bankruptcy and get rid of the debt obligation or the government can bail them out. I wonder if the USA is bankrupt. Who is going to bail us out??
It appears several more Governmental supported Venture Capital solar companies have bitten the dust and all those jobs dried up. The Obama Equity Company doesn't seem to be doing very well, but then, it's your and my money they are spending...
you love to bring up the Obama/boehner budget that nobody voted for.
the vote on the Obama/boehner budget was political theatre, perhaps you are not aware of that. senate democrats forced a vote on the paul ryan budget to put repubs on record as being in support of turning medicare into a voucher program. as you probably know, the vote was 40-57, with scott browne, olympia snowe, lisa murkowski, susan collins, and rand paul voting with democrats. three senators did not vote that day, 2 repubs kay bailey hutchison and pat roberts, and 1 democrat, Chuck Schumer.
so, to retaliate, because repubs were forced to vote on the ryan budget, the repubs forced the vote on the Obama/boehner budget (97-0), the defeat was expected. also defeated that day in may, 2011, were two other repub budget plans by toomey and paul.
democrats joined repubs in voting against the bill, because they wanted a bigger deficit reduction, they also wanted revenues on the table, which repubs REFUSE/REFUSED TO GIVE THEM.
you all love this talking point. its about time the democrats vote NO on proposals that do not include revenue's. this is one area where democrats have compromised too much with repubs, in my opinion. most americans feel that way, too. taxes need to be raised some.
you love this talking point because you love to say that President Obama does not know how to lead. your implication when you ask the question about the Obama/boehner budget, is that the president "cannot even lead his own party". there is more to the story than what you are "implying".
you have asked the question so often, perhaps it is that you do not know the truth of it.
Also, Suzette- aside from the 2011 votes you describe, votes were held this year in which Republicans put all of Obama's blue print items in a budget and then called for a vote. The Dems cried foul because they for sure didn't want to have to vote on Obama's blueprint. The Republican's offered to let them change anything that wasn't based upon Obama's speeches. It was accurate enough that the Democrats couldn't change anything. The vote thus marked the 2nd year in a row that Obama's budget received zero votes.
Now- you may explain why it has to come to others having to create Obama's budget. Why can't Team Obama put together their blueprint and send to to Congress? And don't answer with a "Because Obama is clueless" because that is what I plan to answer you with.
The harsh reality is that no President could stop what is happening now. Global competition is fierce. We have allowed our advantage to dissapate. This has been happening over a period of years and did not start with Obama. Add automation to the mix and we are where we are.
GOP is the main reason for this fall. It took some time but they did it! And it will be to their own dismay in November! If the democrats have any sense they will point this one FACT out clearly to the voters!
President George W. Bush entered office in 2001 just as a recession was starting, and is preparing to leave in the middle of a long one. That’s almost 22 months of recession during his 96 months in office.
His job-creation record won’t look much better. The Bush administration created about three million jobs (net) over its eight years, a fraction of the 23 million jobs created under President Bill Clinton‘s administration and only slightly better than President George H.W. Bush did in his four years in office.
Here’s a look at job creation under each president since the Labor Department started keeping payroll records in 1939. The counts are based on total payrolls between the start of the month the president took office (using the final payroll count for the end of the prior December) and his final December in office.
Because the size of the economy and labor force varies, we also calculate in percentage terms how much the total payroll count expanded under each president. The current President Bush, once taking account how long he’s been in office, shows the worst track record for job creation since the government began keeping records. –
And the jobs created were in the military. Those people were counted as employed but their wages and salaries (Black Water now Academie) came out of our taxes paid by all of us and money borrowed from China.
During Bush we lost 43,000 industries, not jobs, but industries. With those with the trickle down, we lost 5 million jobs. When Obama took over we were losing 500,000 jobs per month. When the GOP congress took over the congress in 2010 the GOP had already done a lot of damage.
We are very lucky we have a president that is very resourceful and used everything at his disposal to put this country in 4 years, in spite of a saboteur congress, in the positive side of the graphs.
We need to provide him with a better congress if we want to continue going forward.
We are very lucky we have a president that is very resourceful and used everything at his disposal to put this country in 4 years, in spite of a saboteur congress, in the positive side of the graphs.
You seem to be concentrating on (net) jobs created. If that is true, then Obama is at a (net) job loss so far and will be the only President to have a (net) job loss in modern history at the end of his term.
Storm, vote for Romney. You deserve him. He will throw you under the bus, and I won't feel the least bit sorry for you or anyone else too stupid to see the facts of what his policies are! So keep on taking up for the GOP, vote your enemies into power! You deserve what you get.
The Norquist pledge is responsible for $2.5 trillion of Social Security funds being raided plus an additional $1 trillion of Chinese loans we needed to bomb Afghanistan and Iraq back into the stone age.
The next step is for republicans to bomb Iran and collapse the US government like the Soviet Union after Grover Norquist forces them to fire up the money printing press after they realize there is no place else to borrow any more money for another idiotic war.
Crackhead, These Republicans are the domestic enemies our president took a pledge to save us from. And one of them is running for president himself! God help us!
the democratic congress did get a lot done for the american people, but that is also when when the filibustering by the repubs was ramped up.
you CANNOT BLAME the democratic congress for the damage that w. bush and the repub party did for the first 6 years of the bush/cheeeeney administration. 2 wars not funded, medicare part D, and the second part of the bush tax cuts signed into law the same month (march 2003) w. bush/cheeeeney invaded iraq.
All we can do is try...it is their own fault if they decide to keep their heads stuck in the sand listening to the doctored tapes from NBC instead of being open to the truth.
As I pointed out on another thread...these fools say that the Republicans can't blame Pelosi for how she tried to screw up this country when she was speaker of the house 2 years ago because she is no longer in the office, but it is okay of them to continue to blame Bush even though he has been out of office for almost 4 years. What hypocrisy..
Being that the vast majority of House Bills have been tabled by the Senate and Obama's denial of the Keystone Piple Line and the jobs it would create, I have to say the problem is with Obama's Policies. I would probably answered differently if Obama spent a little time on the economy and jobs during his first two years in office. Obama got his Health Care, but he failed to address jobs and tax reform.
I was going to try to explain to 2ez about the Pipeline, but forget it. You can't get anything through those concrete heads without a jackhammer. And even if you manage to break through, there's nothing in there but air. It's useless to try to convince them of anything. They have their own set of facts and nothing, not even the truth can sway them.
Keystone Pipe Line and the jobs it would create, Won't create anywhere near the jobs the Republicans claim. That oil from Canada is not intended for the United States. It is intended to be processed on the Texas and Louisiana coast, and shipped to South America, Japan, China and wherever the Canadian Government can get the most money for there Shale Oil. That Keystone Pipeline will also INCREASE the price at the pump for those in the central and mountain states.
No pipeline safety features were part of the original proposal.
Obama has stated that he will approve once changes are incorporated.
We desperately need that pipeline so we can fuel street lights and cars that get 10mpg.
And ... the Social Security Trust Fund that was flush with $2.5 trillion was emptied by 2005 because of the unfunded wars in Afghanistan and iraq.
Now we need to borrow foreign money to fight another war in the Middle East or face economic collapse like the Soviet Union if our oil supply is cut off.
Don't be conned by the inflated claims made by Rethuglicans about the Keystone pipe line. For one thing the possible supplies used for construction you can bet your sweet life that they will be produced in China or some other LOW WAGE country. I include 2 links that show a completely different story from the propaganda you see on FAUX NOISE
If the GOP congress whould not have sabotage and all of Obama's policies would have been implemented then I would say it was PBO's policies.
But the congress from the beginning had the purpose to cause Obama's failure and even a dumb ass as their base should realize that what ever they do is to reach that end.
Even with a saboteur, obstructing congress, and even when the policies we have now are still Bush'e (the tax cuts, the subsidies, the Ayn Rand philosophy of "Atlas Shrugged" mentality) Obama has managed to put this economy out of the negative side of the graph into the positive side makes me hopeful that if he gets a cooperative good moral congress in 2012 we will be enjoying a better future. So I will give this country and it people my very best by voting for the Democrats.
Love for this country and its people should be enough motivation for anyone in any party to do what is right. We cannot build a future for our children but we can prepare our children for a future where everyone has privileges which come accompanied with responsibilities that involve the love for all our fellow citizens, rich or poor, small and great. That is something the GOP is incapable of preaching or teaching.
I feel very sorry for their base because they are being mislead into believing the GOP leadership care for all of them. But if they are blue collar or work for a living they are part of the bottom 85% who share only 7% of the wealth. The Ryan Plan will perpetuate this status.
If Obama's policies are so bad why is it that in less than 1 term in office, President Obama's policies have stopped this country's bleeding of jobs to other countries, 4.4 million jobs have been created... which is more jobs than GW created in 2 terms in office and is over half of the jobs lost during Bush's last year have been recovered by Obama?
While after 8 years of the Bush tax cuts, only 3 million jobs had been created in this country... many more jobs had been out sourced over seas... then 8 million jobs were lost in the course of GW Moron's last year in office?
This tells me that the Repugs don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to failed economic policies. The GOP are all a bunch of lying hypocrites and your candidate of the 1% is the representation of everything your Greedy Obstructionist Party has come to stand for.
The Keystone Pipeline is another representation of the fact that the GOP also represents that Gas & Oil Party... who are the only ones that will benefit from the Keystone Pipeline. It will cause taxpayers money to build it, citizens in the country will be taking the risks of damage and pollution to their water supplies and in the end the oil created will be put on the world market for sale.
The pipeline will not effect the cost of fuel in this country, nor will it create more than a few dozen jobs. The Repugs want the citizens of the country to take all the risks from the pipeline to their environment where they live, while the oil companies (who they represent) get all of the rewards. Once again, the Repugs are lying to the American public about Keystone and you have been one of the fools to believe their lies.
You are most likely correct that it will do no good to explain anything to 2ez about the pipeline, but I tried anyway. Besides I want him to try to answer the questions I posed about how President Obama's policies are failed when he's created more jobs that GW did, in half the he did it.
I'll bet you 2ez won't even attempt to answer that question... because either he's lying or he's simply deluded due to that primitive conservative brain of his. They don't deal with facts, logic or reason very well at all... and are primarily only able to respond to fear mongering, delusional thinking and right wing nut wackiness.
The reason it took so long to pass the ACA is that it was bad policy. They couldn't do it with the Supermajority they had because it was bad policy. They had 58 Democtratic Senators and 2 Independents that caucused with the Democrats and still couldn't get the ACA passed through the normal process which requires 60 votes. They couldn't even get Olympia Snow from Maine to side with them or any other single Republican. That takes time. They eventually passed the ACA through budget reconciliation which only required 51 votes and had a hard time at that because it was bad policy. All that took a lot of time and that's why the President will have to run on the ACA because he squandered the time he had with a Supermajority on the ACA and not on jobs.
Republicans and Democrats have vastly different ideas on how to create jobs. I don't see that gridlock ending until we get another President. If it was the President's priority, then he should have spent more time on it. Instead we have another tax that with further stifle job creation. This is Obama's economy. He needs to stop blaming anyone but himself and his policies.
Crybaby: I was alive then. So I don't need your half baked story. I remmeber the fearmongering the teapublicans pushed it was gonna be the end of the world.
Willard is pro flipper and if he doesn't change his stance it will be all but over for him and the rest of the Teapublicans in 2012.
We were bleeding 800k jobs per month when Obama took office which is why we passed a $780 billion dollar stimulus to 'save or create' 3 million jobs. Do the Math. That's $250,000 per job 'saved or created'. Those must have been pretty nice jobs. I don't make that kind of money. President Obama was the beneficiary of that stimulus and those job numbers.
Why are we only seeing dismal job growth numbers since the stimulus? The problem is his policies. Companies are not going to hire as long as Obama is President because his policies are anti-business. It's that simple.
Not only have they been obstructing everything this President has proposed but they have actually stopped jobs from being created.
It was reported today by the MSM that more than 600,000 public workers, teachers, policemen, firemen, and postal workers, have lost their jobs because the Republican Congress refuses to pass the President's job bill.
In fact, the jobless rate would be almost a full point lower if the Republicans were not obstructing and blocking these jobs.
It is extremely important that people understand who is keeping the unemployment rate as high as it is. It is not the President - it is the Republican Congress. They should be made to answer to the voters of this country.
It is not a Republican Congress. It is a Republican House and a Democratic Senate. Both branches make up The Congress. My goodness. Teachers are supposed to know this stuff. The Senate (i.e. Harry Reid) has tabled more than 19 Republican Jobs bills and will not even allow them to be heard on the floor. Maybe the Senate is trying to obstruct what the House wants to do?
And you know damn well, that the damn Greedy Obstructionist Party is OBSTRUCTING in both of those houses of Congress. Just as they conspired to do in that meeting the night of the inauguration, to make sure none of Obama's policies were passed or implimented. It's all part of the Grand Obstructionist Plan Turtleman McConnell proclaimed they would do to TRY to make Obama a 1 term President.
When the country was at the point of collasping under the weight of an economic crisis and a huge deficit that the Bush administration created, were these high minded members of the GOP concerned about the welfare of the country? Were they planning to do everything possible to HELP THE COUNTRY they had helped to nearly destroy.
Of course NOT... they were instead plotting to prevent any real recovery from taking place, or giving any real help to the citizens of the country. Not until they could get some of their lost and undeserved power back... no matter how much damage they had to do to the country to do it.
The GOP are the most UNPATRIOTIC SLIMEBAGS this country has ever seen.
Scully~ You are right about that, but also everytime people get hired for a job, the Repub governors eliminate more police, firemen, teachers, etc. So it's like one step forward, two steps back!
We were bleeding 800k jobs per month when Obama took office ...
We are bleeding jobs because about 3 million consumers were deported or left the country. Those 3 million consumers directly funded the jobs of about 2.5 million US citizens, with an indirect effect on about 4 million more jobs. That accounts for excess unemployment of about 4.2%, which corresponds closely with the number of jobs lost during the recession of 2007.
Don't bother trying to tell me I'm wrong because you cannot deny you haven't seen any news stories about millions of abandoned houses across the US. The residents that left those houses weren't magically raptured to heaven by some mysterious cosmic force.
Those jobs aren't going to come back until the immigrants come back or until new births create new consumers in about 18 years. People that became unemployed because of deportation/departure of immigrants need to be re-educated into new professions, or we need immigration reform.
Those 3 million consumers left because Section 412 of the Patriot Act allowed police to stop immigrants after states outlawed immigrant drivers licenses, which allowed police to deport the legal owners, steal the cars, and sell them. That collapsed the automotive industry, real estate industry, construction industry, and banking industry. Depression era banking regulation were eliminated by Bush, which allowed banks to collapse the stock market.
Romney's job plan doubles down on the bull$hit that cause the problem.
Scully- could you explain how there is actually zero penalty for Obamacare's mandate again?
If you are not poor (i.e.: you can afford health insurance) and you choose to not buy any, then you pay $95 more for income tax until about 2015 when the payment increases to $695 or 2% of your income.
The supreme court rule that this is a tax and not a penalty.
This tax prevents free-loaders from burdening emergency rooms and forcing the rest of us to make up for their irresponsible behavior.
Poor people don't need to worry about any of this (only affects middle class and wealthy).
The Senate (i.e. Harry Reid) has tabled more than 19 Republican Jobs bills and will not even allow them to be heard on the floor. Maybe the Senate is trying to obstruct what the House wants to do?
I am SOOOO SICK of hearing about all of the "JOBS bills" that Crybaby Boehner & House republiCONS passed that Senator Reid hasn't brought to the floor. For starters, as Rachel Maddow so perfectly describes it, the republican-controlled House has been almost singularly focused on "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs" by which they mean "abortion".
As for the 19 "jobs bills," the reason Senator Reid has not brought them up for a vote is actually quite simple -- they are NOT jobs bills. I have read these bills passed by the House of Representatives and they ALL consist of basically two things. Are you ready for it??? Tax cuts and deregulation.
Why do republiCLOWNS continue to argue that more tax cuts for "the job creators" and less regulation will grow the economy and create jobs??? We tried those ideas from 2001 to 2009 during the train wreck that was the DUH-bya Administration and it was largely those policies that ballooned the deficit, caused the unemployment rate to skyrocket, and brought our economy to its knees, resulting in the Great Republican Recession of 2008.
We cannot afford to go back to Bush 43's disastrous fiscal policies. Rather, we need to move our economy and our country FORWARD by re-electing President Obama and winning enough seats to take back control of the House and reclaim a super-majority in the Senate so that the reTHUGlicans can't continue to sabotage our economy and decimate the middle class.
I have something else I want to get off of my chest, so here goes...
As many of you know, Ed Schultz was on vacation Thursday & Friday of this week and his replacement was Michael Eric Dyson. Dyson has subbed for Ed quite a bit as of late and I have TRIED really, really hard to watch him, but I just can’t do it anymore.
Dyson is clearly a well-educated guy but he is, at best, a mediocre interviewer. He seems to be so concerned about having a segment run long, he fails to actually engage with his guests. He seems to be constantly staring at the clock that times the segment and fails to participate in an actual dialogue with his guests.
Furthermore, while I realize all cable news show hosts read from a teleprompter, it is SO APPARENT that Dyson is reading (and not very well at that). He is very monotone and, worst of all, he WAY over-enunciates. Thursday when he guest-hosted, I HAD to change the channel as soon as he said “Good eee-vuh-neeeng, Americans” (every time he says this I cringe like someone has scratched their nails across a chalkboard). I mean, really, who actually talks that way? I hope to God they find someone else to fill in for Ed. If not, I will DEFINITELY be getting my news elsewhere at the 8 o’clock hour.
You're right! I'm not sure why he pronounces words the way he does or if it's a cadence in his voice or what, but it IS annoying. Or could it be he just wants everyone to know how erudite he is!
TC- lol- you nailed it. The other make believe the left tries is to say how Bush's deregulations ... Bush was the biggest regulator ever, and I'm not even for sure if Obama has passed him yet in significant regulations. Bush worked with the Dems on numerous regulatory issues, financial and environmental and social.
But- for people who have trouble with reality, it makes a good sound bite to blame everything on Bush's deregulations. I've asked numerous times to have them list especially financial deregs on Bush's part. Nothing significant has arisen yet... And definitely- nothing that netted out to deregs.
You might be a "thoughtful CONservative" but obviously there isn't much substance to your thoughts.
What "history" do you claim that I have "made up"? How does what you posted disprove ANYTHING that I said??? The Great Republican Recession began in January of 2008 under DUH-bya. Your own data shows that the unemployment rate jumped from 4.6% in 2007 to 5.8% in 2008. In fact, in EACH of the last 12 months DUH-bya was in office, the private sector LOST over 100,000 jobs EACH MONTH:
FEB 2008 -136,000 Jobs Lost MAR 2008 -112,000 Jobs Lost APR 2008 -215,000 Jobs Lost MAY 2008 -216,000 Jobs Lost JUN 2008 -231,000 Jobs Lost JUL 2008 -259,000 Jobs Lost AUG 2008 -294,000 Jobs Lost SEP 2008 -425,000 Jobs Lost OCT 2008 -480,000 Jobs Lost NOV 2008 -797,000 Jobs Lost DEC 2008 -658,000 Jobs Lost JAN 2009 -839,000 Jobs Lost
Your data also backs up the statement I made that the DUH-bya and republiCON fiscal policies of cutting taxes and deregulation DID NOT grow the economy or create jobs. We had recessions at both the beginning of Bush's first term and the last year of his second term. In fact, the unemployment rate under Bush 43 went UP in all but three years of his presidency.
DUH-bya inherited a healthy economy, 4.2% unemployment, and a budget SURPLUS from President Clinton in January 2001. By the end of the Bush 43 administration, the stock market had tanked, the economy was in the worst recession since the Great Depression, the unemployment rate was 7.8% and climbing, the private sector was shedding 800,000 jobs a month, the auto industry was collapsing, and the budget SURPLUS was gone and the deficit was exploding. ***MISSION ACCOMPLISHED***
What happened that brought about this horrific reversal of fortune for our nation? --- one word, no actually one LETTER: W., W is what happened.
Since Bush/Cheney was such a complete and utter disaster from start to finish, let me remind you of some of their "GREATEST HITS" that got us into this mess. Almost immediately upon taking office, DUH-bya wiped out the budget surplus by enacting massive tax cuts that disproportionately benefited corporations and the wealthiest Americans, AKA "the job creators". At about this same time, in the summer of 2001 we had the whole scandal surrounding Enron (with whom both Bush and Cheney had ties). The collapse should have served as a cautionary tale about the fragility of our economy resulting from deregulation, risky business practices, and questionable accounting procedures. Unfortunately, the Bush administration's failure to take seriously an August 2001 memo warning of Al Qaeda's threat of an impending terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers using hijacked planes resulted in the deaths of over 3,000 American citizens and the complete overshadowing of the Enron Scandal.
As a result of the events of 9/11, DUH-bya engaged our troops in not one, but TWO UNFUNDED wars in Afghanistan and Iraq (Weapons of Mass DISTRACTION, anyone?). The decade-plus-long "Global War on Terror" and the Iraq War were charged to our Bank of China credit card.
Despite the fact that our nation was at war on two fronts, Bush enacted a second round of tax cuts, again largely benefiting corporations and "the job creators", presumably to spur job creation and jump-start the economy. Just like the first round of the Bush Tax Cuts in 2001, the tax cuts of 2003 were not paid for.
In addition to the two UNFUNDED (and unnecessary) wars and two rounds of massive tax cuts that were not paid for, Bush and the republiCLOWNS passed the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan, which was also NOT PAID FOR. The wars, the tax cuts, and the Medicare prescription drug plan resulted in exponentially growing debt & deficits. Add to this the republicans' failure to regulate their masters, the Wall Street Fat Cats, and the result is a republican-made economic disaster.
Why would ANYONE with ANY sense WHATSOEVER want to go back to the disaster that was having a republican in the White House?????
Lots of innuendo- how you phrase something doesn'tmake it true or false.
Bush tax cut #1- 62 votes in the Senate- during a recession- lots of people might just make a rational argument that it was good policy. In fact- studies have shown that millionaires paid significantly more taxes than before the cuts- so if your complaint was reduced revenue- you might want to re-think that.
Even Obama has said Afghan war was necessary. Just because olebud- 10 years hense, said it was unneccessary doesn't make that true either. Lots of Democrats- including Kennedy, Kerry, etc- called upon Clinton to intervene militarily in Iraq in the late 90s. We most likely shouldn't have went in there, but that is in hindsight. Obama was against that one. On Afghan- more war fatalities have happened under Obama than under Bush. Just a fact.
Now- you may want to get off your high horse in discussing how terrible unfunded medical or drug coverage is evil. You may want to wait till the dust settles on this one- or your words will be boomeranged back to you. Seems, all studies since the original have shown this one isn't paid for.
So- if you want- we can all be stupid and childish and talk about things the DUMBocrats have done as well. Or you can get off you mom's computer and study some.
I agree with you completely. Michael Eric Dyson is nothing but a left-wing race baiter. The only words I have heard come out of his mouth are to futher divide this country along cultural and race lines.
Don't try to pretend to not know how much it cost the American people. We spent over $780 billion dollars on a stimulus plan that either 'saved or created' 3 million jobs. Do the damn Math. That's more than $250,000 per job. What was the point? So we could tax those jobs more because they made more than $250,000 dollars? Do you make that much? Too bad you couldn't get one of those 'saved or created' jobs.
This President doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to the economy. It's obvious. He's a Community Organizer with no Executive experience trying to play the role as President of the greatest country in the World and failing miserably at it.
"Lots of innuendo"??? REALLY??? Could you please be specific and point out where I use "lots of innuendo" in what I said? You can't because you clearly have no idea what the word even means.
So tell me, Rusty, how did those Bush tax cuts work out for the country? Did they serve as a shot in the arm to the economy? Did they create millions of new jobs and, thus, drastically reduce the unemployment rate? In hindsight was there a "rational argument that [the Bush tax cuts] was good policy? Since you clearly are unable to think for yourself and rely on others (Faux "News") to tell you the "answers", let me help you out, friend. The answers to these questions are: No, No, No, and HELL NO. And, could you please cite some of those "studies [that] have shown that millionaires paid significantly more [in taxes] than before the cuts"? Since that is MATHEMATICALLY IMPOSSIBLE (a smaller tax rate, percentage-wise, of ANY dollar amount in taxable revenue will result in a proportionately smaller tax bill), I would LOVE to know who the right-wing nut-jobs were that reached such a ridiculous conclusion. There is absolutely no reason for me to "rethink" my complaint that the Bush tax cuts resulted in reduced revenue because that is EXACTLY what happened. In fact the vast majority of our debt and deficit, not just for the past decade but also for the foreseeable future, is due overwhelmingly to the massive reduction in tax revenues resulting from two rounds of the Bush Tax Cuts. RoMONEY wants to make the Bush Tax Cuts PERMANENT and cut taxes even further. The non-partisan CBO projects that this would increase the deficit about $5 trillion dollars over the next ten years, unless of course Willard can find areas to cut spending by this amount.
Granted, President Obama has basically said that Afghanistan was the more legitimate of the two wars since, after all, the Taliban allowed Al Qaeda to train for and plot their attacks there. However, I cannot EVER recall President Obama saying the Afghanistan war was "necessary". In fact, recent successes in Afghanistan demonstrate the administration's shift from a counter-insurgency strategy to a counter-terrorism approach -- evidenced by increasingly utilizing drone strikes and targeted operations, like the Seal Team Six raid that took out OBL. If DUH-bya hadn't lost sight of bin Laden & Al Qaeda, maybe the war in Afghanistan would already be over and at less cost and less loss of life. We should have never gone to Iraq AT ALL.
I hate that you think I am on my "high horse" but I am simply stating facts. You may not like them, but nevertheless THOSE ARE THE FACTS. The 8 long years our country suffered through the mistakes of Bush/Chaney took a heavy toll on our country in countless ways. It is totally unrealistic, especially considering the unprecedented obstruction from the GOP/TP, for anyone to think that in less than four years President Obama could fix everything Bush & Cheney screwed up. In my opinion, considering the horrible circumstances Obama inherited, the accomplishments of this administration are nothing short of miraculous. Four years from now, President Obama, concluding his second term as POTUS, will have completely righted the ship and, in effect, erased the damages done by the worst administration in our nation's history -- President Cheney and Vice-President Bush.
By the way, if anyone in this "discussion" has been childish, my friend, it would have to be you. I wear your infantile "get off you [sic] mom's computer" comment as a badge of honor because that is the typical "rightie" response when someone has just smacked them down with a huge dose of TRUTH.
Apart from Reagan and Kennedy, unemployment increased under every Republican presidents and dropped under every Democrat presidents for about 100 years.
Democrat Republican
-0.218% Avg. 0.364% Avg.
US Department of Labor Statistics provides this information. Average unemployment is 0.9% better for each Democrat presidential term and about 1.5% worse for each Republican presidential term.
" If not, I will DEFINITELY be getting my news elsewhere at the 8 o’clock hour."
Ole Bud
MSNBC a "news" station? Now that is freakin hilarious. Substitute "Democrat propaganda" for news and you would be right. I'm still laughing about the news comment. Thanks, it made my day.
Ole- already did. Read my post. Then ask you question. Your entire segment is nothing but innuendo and anecdotes. You tossing in some bold fonts doesn't make them real...
I know exactly what you mean. Despite the Repug obstruction of any of President Obama's policies that would help grow the economy, the President has succeeded in getting the private sector to grow... through his stimulus to some extent, but mostly through the auto industry rescue, and other actions he's taken on his own through executive order.... since the Repugs won't do a damn thing to help. But you are correct, that since the Repugs took over the house they have made sure to cut as many public sector jobs as possible.
They do the same sort of questionable and hinky tactics with their tax policies. They say they will do away with tax loopholes, yet only if the tax rates are lowered... making the cutting of tax loopholes worthless since any extra revenue that would be gained by those cuts is lost in the additional cuts in tax rates... which tax cuts generally only benefit the rich as usual. So the result is a total of 0 $ in funds to help pay down the deficit which the Bush tax cuts increased by nearly 5 Trillion $ and continue to run up, and which Robme will increase by another 5 Trillion $ if elected.
I posted the info below to YOU on the June 29 blog, which you apparently ignored or didn't bother to check out. It was #1.88... but here it is again.Watch the link and it explains why there is no real penalty in the mandate. It's because the Demos and President Obama have a heart and compassion for the poor and middle class... while the Greedy Obstructionist Party only care about the 1%.
You can go back to any of Obama's speeches or debates with Hillary Clinton during the 2008 election in which he says he does not agree with a mandate. That was the only thing he and Hillary did not agree on. So the mandate was added to Obamacare as a GOP inclusion.
The best explanation of the mandate, or actually the NON-mandate... because the ACA has a mandate in "word only" without any real enforcement mechanism has been done a numerous occasions by Lawrence O.
So there isn't even an enforceable fine in the mandate, much less A HUGE TAX INCREASE as your right-wing nut loonies have been ranting and lying about.
So you are WRONG AGAIN. I might add that joining a union has nothing to do with greed and you obviously got that stupid idea from your right wing nut talking points handed out on the Fox propaganda network, as usual. Go pedal it over there to the brain dead goofballs at Fox.... they'll believe anything.
scully- thanks- not over name calling, etc, but for reposting. I had mentioned this to the good people on these blogs- that there wasn't a mandate and there was noenforcement, etc. All the libs argued with me that there was. I was indefensible- stating what you had told me, and the opposite of what Team Obama claimed (the only way to make it work was the mandate). I've been accused of being a Fox guy by the best of them- so it doesn't bother me that ou would as well. Even though you've probably watched more minutes of Fox news than me over the past year (if you haven't, then I truly wonder how you make your opinions about them- just using hearsay?).
But thanks for reposting- it clarifies the fact that there isn't any enforcement, so people can truly wait till they are sick to buy it, and insurance companies won't have the masses to spread cost over.
The Right want big breaks for Job Makers - They won't see that the Rich are Job Fakers... The Poor should be leery - Their Trickle-Down Theory Is pissing all over Job Takers...
The Right destroys jobs in public sector, While complaining of unemployment's vector. Claim public work isn't jobs While giving taxes to snobs - They prefer to be the Wealthy's protector...
Mitt Romney has a question of character, His business past shows him a bad actor, He has the reputation For forsaking our nation, And sourcing the job out to a contractor...
Mitt Romney wants the public to forget That Republicans caused all the debt... While they break all the rules, They would take us for fools... In the Fall, they will fall with no net...
While Obama pushes his Job Act. Republicans stop it in Job fact... They block and obstruct While saying "Tough luck!" Just wait 'til we get all the House back...
Not surprising after all the months of obstructing the presidents bills to get the economy going. But its all gloom and doom other parts of the economy have been picking up. And we don't need a guy telling us we got a kick in the gut! We need to kick some in the ass!
People can't spend if they have no jobs....why can't they get this simply little truth? Actually they know this. It's easy to see why all the obstruction.
Hey, we won't be getting kicked around by this troll anymore.
Obama is their scapegoat plain and simple. Quite frankly I don't think they could create anything of any use to anyone if it wasn't for greed. I would have to say its being set up for the devil himself!
Oh, Drill, Bush has been out of office for 3 1/2 years. We have a new guy in there now that isn't stupid like george and shady cheney. This new bunch doesn't allow buffoons. Come on catch up. We already kicked the bush out.
How many Czars have resigned in scandal, (Kevin Jennings, Van Jones, etc.)? His Attorney General has been found in contempt of Congress because he thinks he's above the Law. An EPA official has said their objective is to 'crucify' oil companies.
I'm all caught up. This guy doesn't know what he's doing and surrounds himself with baffoons.
In the last year of the Bush administration, the monthly job loss numbers built steadily to a peak which then began to reverse itself during Obama's first year.
Newsflash.........TR....... Bush/Cheney left a pile of shi* and the republicans love throwing it against the walls instead of getting a bucket and mop for cleaning the mess up!
Obama/Biden 2012 FOR SURE~ President Obama for True Leadership
We all know that, Duh........We just want you to know who started it all and why we have to make a recovery. Duh! Romneys is running isn't he. He is a republican isn't he. Duh!
I would love to see Mitt Romney and George W Bush running against each other for president. What a freaking mess we would be in.
Bush made this big mess and tomney is just like him, stupid and will take this country down because of big corporation and gigantic bank accounts here ans over seas. Then Romney would send all of our jobs overseas because you get cheap labor over there or Romney and his tea party might wan to bring those slave shops back here from overseas and we will be the cheap slaves for them!!!
Now there is something to think about...............do not trust Romney or any one in the tea party republican party.........................VOTE OBAMA 2012
In the last year of the Bush administration, the monthly job loss numbers built steadily to a peak which then began to reverse itself during Obama's first year.
I don't hear Bush out there blaming the Democratic House and Senate that were elected in 2006 for the collapse of the subprime lending bubble. Why does this President blame every one but himself for what is happening? Every new President talks about their first 100 days. They want to get as many of their visions for the future passed because they have a lot of political clout right after they get elected and that's about how long it takes their policies to really take hold by the time their reelection comes around four years later.
This President had a majority in both the House and Senate his first two years in office and could have passed anything he wanted. Most Presidents don't get that luxury. He held out for the Affordable Care Act and passed it. He should have concentrated on Jobs. This is his economy.
Might I suggest Mexico? It's close, it's relatively inexpensive, and except for all the guns that our Justice Department let into the country, still safe if you're not into drug smuggling.
The US is in the middle of a global money war and the republicans disarmed us by emptying the social security trust fund. That fund provided confidence in the strength of the US dollar after we went off the gold standard because it eliminated the need to print and borrow money from 1941 through 2005 when Bush #2 squandered it on bombs.
Australia, UK, New Zealand, and Mexican newspapers are laughing their ass off at our stupidity.
Every foreign newspaper is covering this.
The US is now forced to borrow money from communists or print more money if we have another war.
Bachmann, Cain, Romney, and Gingrich have claimed that the first thing they will do is bankrupt the US by bombing Iran the minute they get elected.
Unemployment in Mexico is now about 4% and Mexican employers are screaming to pay top dollar for people with an education.
My brother did the fiscal calculations and found that Mexico is booming because 3 million of our "illegal immigrants" left the US and are "stimulating" the Mexican economy with $billions$ of consumer demand as their products roll across the US border.
Chinas was able to bypass tariffs because of NAFTA. Remember Bush #1?
China dumped $billions$ into the Mexican economy to bypass tariffs by using NAFTA to build factories.
Mexico adopted new banking rules similar to the US Federal Reserve system that provided our economic expansion.
My brother left Oklahoma for an area near Guatemala/Belize shortly after the Tea Party insanity began.
Isn't it amazing that private companies are sitting on $2 trillion in assets immediately after $2.5 trillion was plundered from the social security trust fund bringing the US government on the brink of bankruptcy.
One more war and the US goes extinct like the do do bird.
After almost 10 years of the BUSH tax cuts this is the promise showing in all its glory! Even a trickle is now a drip just like the guy who put it in place. Say thanks to George!
the rethuglicans (who are in the back pocket of corporate America) have absolutely NO intention of working for the people and creating jobs since they fear that would give credit to our president. Pres Obama consistently has put forth ideas for job creation/growth but mcconnell/beohner/etc are determined to obstruct at any cost even if it means throwing our country off the cliff. now that citizens united has allowed the superrich to spend unlimited funds that only increases the fact that job creation will be obstructed. the superrich are only interested in themselves and with flip-flop rummy in their pocket they can call all the shots since rummy appears void of producing any ideas on his own.
Kathy, I think what they are doing, and have been doing since Obama took office, is tantamount to treason. Our president took an oath to protect us from enemies, foreign and domestic. If the T-party folks aren't the domestic ones, who is? Seems to me that trying to break the economy of our country qualifies for treason, especially since it is being done to ruin the incumbent president!
Treason for disagreeing with the economic policies of an administration? Really. How about the Democratic leadership openly condemning the President during a time of war for his actions. Reid and Pelosi should have been tried and convicted if we follow your reasoning. Really out in left field even for you.
The Republicans have done every dirty trick in their strategy books to destroy the President. They are an evil lot of people. If they would simply work together on behalf of the people, things would be much better in our country. They are liars and haters who are only interested in their greedy pockets, power and control. As written in Tim Wise's (white anti-racist author) book: Dear White America: Letter to the New Minority, ""Faced with mounting economic, cultural and political insecurity, many whites are growing anxious with the fact that they will soon no longer constitute the majority of the population, a fact foreshadowed by the Obama presidency. " Therefore, 'they are fighting for their priviledged rights/lives.'
Conservative ideologies are distributed to the public using Fox Entertainment products that include frequent input from the following television, radio, and newspaper personalities.
Hearst enterprises sold it's political journalism products to New World Communication in 1994, which became affiliated with Fox after controlling interest was purchased by Rupert Murdoch in 1997 (now News Corporation).
One of the reasons that executive privilege exists is so that the identity and home address of law enforcement officials can be kept secret so that the criminals can't hunt them down and kill them.
Treason ... shall consist ... ... Enemies ... Aid ... (article III section 2)
Releasing wiretaps and transcripts would give aid to enemies involving the war on drugs and terrorists by allowing criminals to gain the true identity of law enforcement officials - the constitutional definition of treason.
“While we do not know who provided these letters to reporters, we are deeply disturbed that the sensitive law-enforcement information contained in them has now entered the public realm…This public disclosure is impeding the department’s efforts to hold individuals accountable for their illegal acts,” he said.
(d) To safeguard the privacy of innocent persons, the interception of wire or oral communications where none of the parties to the communication has consented to the interception should be allowed only when authorized by a court of competent jurisdiction and should remain under the control and supervision of the authorizing court. Interception of wire and oral communications should further be limited to certain major types of offenses and specific categories of crime with assurances that the interception is justified and that the information obtained thereby will not be misused.
So Holder did not commit any contempt offense, and it is clear that Holder is obeying US law established by congress.
Holder would actually be violating multiple provisions of the constitution and US law if he obeyed republican members of congress that have requested prohibited information.
So Holder cooperated with congress and republicans committed treason?
And Holder can now arrest and detain members of congress for treason?
And only President Obama has the power to pardon anyone for treason?
And republicans have halted the War on Drugs because of a political investigation in an election year?
This is getting WAY interesting.
Republicans only found out about the program because they started it.
Eric Holder may have handed over the 7,600 pages of documents that he wanted to, but he did not had over the ones Congress wanted to see. He delayed/stalled this investigation for over a year. It was time to put and end to the shenanigans he was playing.
The only person that committed a crime here is our Attorney General, Eric Holder, and maybe some others in the Administration (now that Executive Privilege has been invoked) for not admitting they knew what was happening, when it happened. 'Fast and Furious' was nothing more than a feeble attempt to strengthen gun laws in the US and that program went awry.
Operation Wide Receiver, started under the Bush Administration, was done in conjunction with the Mexican Government. Fast and Furious was not. Fast and Furious was done without the Mexican Govenment's knowledge and was a free for all gun walking program, knowing that eventually those guns would be found at crime scenes in the US and it would be ammunition for the Administration to strengthen the gun laws in the US.
As for the one operation from Wide Receiver that you posted about, where the ATF tracked the guns into Mexico and were lost? That was because Mexican authorities were supposed to take over after they crossed the border, but did not.
Holder ... did not hand over the ones Congress wanted to see ...
Congress asked for wiretap information and wiretap transcripts that are prohibited, so Holder cannot release that information without committing a felony.
"How is it possible for you to have a college education and not know this?"
"You can be thrown in jail if you don't know this."
"Every accredited electronics/electrical program is required to cover things like this."
C'mon you've got to be kidding me? Anyway, Holder is only stalling until after the election. He knows if he goes down before the election, the President goes down with him. He is not telling Congress the truth and has misled Congress from the start of this investigation. It has already been proven that he has known about 'Fast and Furious' much longer than than he said he had in his original testimony before Congress.
You keep dreaming!! You and this President are going need it. The first professor I had said, "If you want to build an oscillator, build a high gain amplifier."
Drill baby, Holder didn't committ any crime. Issa may have. He is the one who better lay low. The laws were broken by Arizona agensts. Issa never had his facts straight he was just after a scandal, and he wanted blood.
I'm sorry, but can we talk turkey -- I mean, Darrell Issa -- for a moment? Is there any fair and balanced news commentator (honest ones, that is, not the Fox News version) who doubts what this guy is all about? Rep. Issa himself has made no pretense of his intentions: Nail Barack Obama first, raise Issa's profile second (or maybe that's first), and get at the truth last.
Even before he took over the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, with zero evidence in hand, Issa called Obama "one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times." In his relentless search for evidence (and headlines) since, he has found nothing to back up that statement, making him look like a buffoon. (Even the Solyndra scandal turned out to be a question of incompetence, not corruption, as Issa himself has admitted.)
As Issa told my former colleague Susan Davis for her definitive profile of him in National Journal last year: "I'm a salesman .... What I'm selling is the awareness of a product." By "product," Issa apparently intended to mean his committee's investigations. But clearly the main product he's selling is Darrell Issa.
And now, having managed to tease out a loose string involving the Justice Department's botched Fast and Furious gun-tracking program, he's dragged the House leadership along in voting to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. All in a continuing search for Issa's personal white whale: evidence of White House corruption.
As a reporter, I'm no defender of Holder --most recently I wrote that he was "gaining a reputation for passivity in a number of investigations," including of Wall Street and the BP Oil spill. And Issa's Democratic predecessor, Henry Waxman, was as partisan as he is. But at least Waxman was somewhat effective, as was a Republican committee head, former Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia. (For example, with their probes into steroids in baseball; the Bush administration's ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff; and the Army's cover-up of Pat Tillman's death).
Not so Issa. As Davis wrote, "Beyond its investigation of Fast and Furious, his committee hasn't recorded any big hits despite firing -- or misfiring -- at almost anything that moves."
In the current probe, Issa and the other Republicans on his committee have told melodramatic tales suggesting that border agent Brian Terry may have been a victim of the guns that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives lost sight of when it created its misbegotten sting program intended to trace weapons to Mexican drug cartels. But in their singular effort to find evidence that the Obama White House tried to cover up Fast and Furious, as Dana Milbank pointed out in The Washington Post on Thursday, the documents they are demanding are "only those since February 2011 -- two months after Terry was killed and the program was shut down."
All of this has engaged the passions of nearly every Republican in the House, helped along by their mouthpiece, Fox News, on which the ineffable Michele Malkin declared yesterday that the Obama administration "let [the guns] go because they had an underlying gun-control agenda." Rep Carolyn Maloney, a Democrat on the committee, expressing the views of most Democrats, called the Holder contempt vote a political witch hunt and added, "It's witch-hunting season, and it won't be over until November." But Maloney had that only partly right. It won't be over in November. It's been going on for many Novembers. Strident House Republicans have been on one continual witch hunt since the 1994 takeover of the House.
We all remember the endless (and fruitless) Whitewater investigation and the Monicagate scandal that emerged from it, like the monster baby in the cult movie Eraserhead. But perhaps you have forgotten all the furor in the late '90s when, helped along by misleading reporting by The New York Times, Republicans on the Hill pursued an endlessly snowballing series of pseudo-scandals. They began with allegations that President Clinton had corruptly permitted Democratic donor Bernard Schwartz, then head of Loral, to sell satellites to China, and culminated in the investigation into supposedly stolen U.S. nuclear secrets by a Taiwanese-American scientist, Wen Ho Lee.
One GOP-led witch hunt directly to the another. The Loral satellite scandal so intrigued Newt Gingrich, then the House speaker -- who stopped just short of publicly accusing Clinton of committing treason for money -- that he set up a $2.5 million commission headed by Christopher Cox, R-Calif., to look into it. It was the Cox Commission that later fed The Times its Wen Ho Lee stories; the commission's final report concluded hysterically that for more than 20 years China had stolen secret information on every nuclear weapon in the United States arsenal.
Ultimately, all of these scandal stories collapsed. Completely. No charges were ever brought against anyone in the Clinton administration, and no one resigned. Bernard Schwartz was exonerated of all wrongdoing when the Justice Department "turned up not a scintilla of evidence -- or information -- that the president was corruptly influenced by [him]." Wen Ho Lee was exonerated of spying charges; he pleaded guilty to a single count of mishandling classified data and received an apology from the judge for having been shackled and jailed in solitary for a year.
Congressional charges that the Clinton Administration had been remiss in pursuing the spy investigations petered out as well -- especially as it became clear how troubled the Wen Ho Lee case was, and that the president had in fact ordered a revamping of nuclear security the year before, in 1998. The Cox report was discredited for its over-the-top allegations about the dangers of a Chinese spy network.
What is going on here? Longtime think-tank scholars Norm Ornstein and Thomas Mann make a persuasive case in their new book, It's Even Worse Than It Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided With the New Politics of Extremism, that as the Republican Party has moved ever more rightward--apparently trying to stay ahead of the Democrats as they shifted to the center -- it "has become an insurgent outlier in American politics." They say the GOP is no longer capable of compromise, and therefore of effective government.
Ornstein and Mann trace the problem back to Gingrich and another '90s figure who has captured the party's heart (or perhaps its manhood): Grover Norquist, whose no-tax pledge "has led to other pledges, on issues such as climate change, that create additional litmus tests that box in moderates and make cross-party coalitions nearly impossible."
And Issa, like other Republicans in solid red districts, seems not bothered in the least that a new Gallup poll of confidence in government, while it shows waning faith in most major institutions including the presidency and Supreme Court, puts Congress in a distant last place. Respondents who evinced either a "great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in the presidency amounted to a mere 35 percent; in the Supreme Court, 37 percent; and in Congress, an embarrassing and bottom-scraping 12 percent.
Do you really think Holder committed no crime? The length of your rebuttal proves otherwise. I have read all of your posts and I do not know how this exonerates Eric Holder from contempt from Congress. He knew about 'Fast and Furious' way before he said he did.
grover norquist, with help from the repub party, has accomplished what he set out to do-make it nearly impossible for a democratic president to govern.
i always remember the prosecution and false imprisonment of Don Siegelman because the w. bush administration wanted this populat democratic gov. out of office, and replaced with a repub in alabama.
this type of behavior is nothing new for repubs. as a general rule we do not see this kind of behavior from democrats. starting when H.W. bush was ambassador to china, his mistress, jennifer fitzgerald traveled everywhere with him. the chinese were slackjawed that he traveled so openly with his mistress. he did this throughout his v. presidency, and his presidency. everyone knew it, yet democrats said nothing. only a few short years later, Clinton was impeached by a repub congress that was doing the same thing he was.
at the same time that the democratic congressman, Gary Condit was being hammered (LED BY FOX NEWS) for his affair with, and the murder of Chandra Levy, a republican congressman was also having an affair with one of his staff in florida, Lori Klausutis. they found her dead body in his office. reasons for her death are not clear, (an "accident") but it was only mentioned in a florida newspaper. this republican congressman must have felt very lucky that a democrat was being demonized for an affair and blamed for the death of his mistress, while he, the republican, escaped all scrutiny.
republicans feel entitled, or led by god, to right the wrongs of others, even though they themselves do the same things. they are very good at staying on message, and gullible people who listen to fox news, and to repubs, gobble it up and take it as the final word.
i do not believe that Holder did anything wrong. this is just another witch hunt by repubs to destroy a presidency, and to destroy anyone next to him. i do find it interesting that both men are black. why is issa, and the republicans treating our President and Attorney General with such disrespect?
you believe that Holder knew about fast and furious way before he said he did, just because issa says it is true, and fox news pushes this propaganda.
it's OK to be patient with george zimmerman, and wait for the facts, but you have already declared Holder guilty.
There's no doubt it is GOP obstructing. You mention the House Bills in the Senate. Those are nothing more than the same policies that got us where we were in 2008 when Obama took office; nothing but tax breaks and less regulation for Corporations. One reason for the delaying of the Keystone Pipeline, which nobody ever mentions, was because the State of Nebraska was concerned about it's path, and the potential for damage to their water supply. As far as ACA goes, it was the same plan introduced by the Right Wing Group The Heritage Foundation back in 1993 and almost identical to Romney's bill in Massachusettes. But, because it was proposed by Obama, who the Right said from day 1 were going to block everything in order to make him a 1 term President, what would you expect but delay after delay?
Good post, Brad. Re: Keystone xl, not only Nebraska, but the pipe line would be very dangerous to every environment it would pass through. Dirtiest fuel ever.
Supposedly they've rerouted it around the aquifer, but they've already had over a dozen leaks up north and this peanut butter-like substance is impossible to clean up. If it gets into water it sinks. It doesn't float to the top like crude oil. We take all the risk and the big oil company gets all the profit. And you're right, there would only be about 3000 temporary jobs. It's not worth the risk. Doesn't anybody(Repubs) realize when your water is polluted, your dying isn't far behind? I've heard people say they don't drink water. What do the think Coke and Pepsi are made with? Or beer? These idiots better start thinking ahead to the possibilities and wise up.
MJB, They'll revise their opinion when there's no damn clean water left to drink! Problem is, it will be too late.
These Republican voters are a puzzle to me. The want to vote in the very people who will turn them into nothing more than collateral damage! The Republican governors, so far eight of them are refusing the free government money to cover the people on Medicaid. They prefer to see the poor sick and dying than take the free money to help them. One of them is Bobby Jindal, Romney's possible VP!
What kind of creatures are we dealing with here? In God's name, why would you want them to have power over you and your children?
India~ My stupid governor, Branstad is another one saying he'll refuse it too! Why the idiots in this state KEEP electing him is beyond me. If he got right in their face and TOLD them he doesn't give a rat's patootie about them, they'd probably STILL be stupid enough to vote for him!
MJB, I know. It is so amazing. On Friday night, I heard someone, a navy vet, say terrible things about Obama. I said, "At least he's not a draft dodger", and hastened away. LOL Why ever would a military person like Romney?
It was 102 degrees here on our back deck today. Nearly 8:00 and down to a balmy 92. Good Lord. We bathed the cat and hung him out to dry. LOL He dried so fast! Our deck is shaded, too. I've never seen it this hot.
My baby likes to go out on the deck too, but not when it's this hot. I open the slider and that hot air hits her in the face and she says NO THANKS! She's pretty spoiled! But when it IS nice she stays out there for long periods and never leaves the deck, which for a cat is almost unheard of! She knows where her bread's buttered!
MJB, They do know that! Normally if it's hot or cold, we don't let him out either. In the Winter, I must say 10000000 times, "No, Jack, it is too cold!"
Now I am saying it's too hot! But since he was wet, we let him dry outside, rather than in the AC.
I hope this Winter I won't be saying, No, it's too hot! LOL
Spot on Brad! The only thing you misstated was everything. Bush was the biggest regulator in history- you can take Obama's word for that. Obama took office in 2009, not 2008.
You say Obamacare was the same thing the GOP asked for in 1993. If you think it is a good thing- then why aren't you angry at the Democrats for not jumping on it like a bass on a big old lure then. You could have had Obamacare 19 years sooner if not for the Democrats obstructing progress. How else could you interpret your concept? Why did the Democrats reject it in 1993? Was it because they didn't think it was worth a damn?
It's nothing but GOP obstruction, it's been part of their plan since President Obama has been elected. And it's disgusting how the republicans are rejoicing that Americans are still hurting.
Willard is a pro with extreme knowledge on job destruction. And I must give the GOP a AAA rating. GWBs birthday and he can finally say mission accomplished.
Where those Massachusetts jobs were being created is a story in itself.
The steepest drop during Romney's tenure came in manufacturing. The number of manufacturing jobs fell by 11.4 percent, extending a historic slide in a state whose mill towns once provided the fuel for the economic engine.
Other areas that saw declines during Romney's term were jobs in publishing, movies, broadcasting and data processing, which fell by 7.1 percent, and in warehousing and utilities, which fell by 2.7 percent.
The strongest job growth was at the higher end of the wage scale. Professional and business services grew by 7.1 percent, education and health services by 6.8 percent, and the leisure and hospitality area by 4.7 percent.
Part of that growth can be attributed to Massachusetts' role as a national leader in health care, a role strengthened by the state's landmark health insurance law signed by Romney in 2006.
Mom- thanks for pointing out the effects of Romneycare. Lost Manufacturing jobs, etc. As such- do you still claim ithat a) Obamacare is the same as Romneycare, and b) Obamacare is good?
You libs need to think before posting stupid stuff that hurts you.
McConnell said it from day one. It was the republicans job to make sure Obama was a one term president. And they have been obstructing him and job plans since.
It's OBSTRUCTION and I wish somebody - like the President - would start TALKING about it instead of letting people like Kantor and Boehner continue to chirp their snide comments about how Obama has run out of ideas. He has PLENTY of ideas - it's just that Frigging congress won't let him DO anything. It makes me furious.
The GOP will do anything to win. They are a bunch of egotistical, greedy, selfish people who care NOTHING about the public. Boehner and Cantor and McConnell are un-Americans in their actions.
What does Mittens stand for? He said he will cut government spending? The republican lead Congress has slashed the government workforce by 6 percent since December 2008, putting 1.2 million workers out of a job. In Congress, many are arguing for more cuts in government spending. Thats the way to job growth? Really?
Well...lets see...if we assume your numbers are correct, that would be an additional $72 BILLION a year in payroll expenses if you assume an average salary of $60,000. And that money would come from where? Oh, thats right, we can just borrow more money from China...good idea..
Consumer demand is what drives the economy. Their aim is to keep us down so they can get their Wall Street toady in power. Once they are in power and all the money flows their way, they will have the perfect Oligarchy going to keep themselves wealthy and powerful. It will be a very different country.
We will be collateral damage in their war for absolute power. Our children will be the cannon fodder for their endless wars.
Hi Mom,
Couldn't agree more.
All of the House Republican jobs bills that they have passed, would actually increase job losses throughout the economy, EXCEPT the Defense Industry.
of course it because of repuke obstruction, this all they know to do. remember the repukes dirst priority is to make him a one turn pres. also on a somewhat bit of good news, OBAMA did sign the small jobs bill congress sent to him before they went on another undeserved break.
Hi Kathe,
Consumer demand is the real solution, and spending is half the equation.
Dscully,
In Romney own word, he is a "creative of destruction." He destroy jobs to make a quick profit.

1. Corporation
2. Consumers
@Kelly-Independent
Corporations are supposed to pay taxes on any funds that are not distributed.
That includes the $2 trillion sitting idle in bank vaults.
Wealthy people are contributing to Romney so that he will eliminate taxes that would eventually effect this $2 trillion in idle cash.
The real issue is that the wealthiest people in the country are white supremacist, and they refuse to pay taxes to a government that is headed by an African American.
Romney is appealing to that demographic.
thanks Sen, Mom, Kelly, Scully, Crack, India, Chuck, Billie, Mac, MJB, Kathe (did i miss anyone) for the great posts above.
i agree.
You are very welcome.
The Obama Equity Company doesn't seem to be doing very well, but then, it's your and my money they are spending...
rusty,
you love to bring up the Obama/boehner budget that nobody voted for.
the vote on the Obama/boehner budget was political theatre, perhaps you are not aware of that. senate democrats forced a vote on the paul ryan budget to put repubs on record as being in support of turning medicare into a voucher program. as you probably know, the vote was 40-57, with scott browne, olympia snowe, lisa murkowski, susan collins, and rand paul voting with democrats. three senators did not vote that day, 2 repubs kay bailey hutchison and pat roberts, and 1 democrat, Chuck Schumer.
so, to retaliate, because repubs were forced to vote on the ryan budget, the repubs forced the vote on the Obama/boehner budget (97-0), the defeat was expected. also defeated that day in may, 2011, were two other repub budget plans by toomey and paul.
democrats joined repubs in voting against the bill, because they wanted a bigger deficit reduction, they also wanted revenues on the table, which repubs REFUSE/REFUSED TO GIVE THEM.
you all love this talking point. its about time the democrats vote NO on proposals that do not include revenue's. this is one area where democrats have compromised too much with repubs, in my opinion. most americans feel that way, too. taxes need to be raised some.
you love this talking point because you love to say that President Obama does not know how to lead. your implication when you ask the question about the Obama/boehner budget, is that the president "cannot even lead his own party". there is more to the story than what you are "implying".
you have asked the question so often, perhaps it is that you do not know the truth of it.
i hope you understand it better now.
Suzette- perhaps you could further educate us on what budget Obama has passed? How many votes has he gotten?

By WSJ Staff
President George W. Bush entered office in 2001 just as a
recession was starting, and is preparing to leave in the middle of a long one.
That’s almost 22 months of recession during his 96 months in office.
His job-creation record won’t look much better. The Bush administration
created about three million jobs (net) over its eight years, a fraction of the
23 million jobs created under President Bill Clinton‘s
administration and only slightly better than President George H.W. Bush
did in his four years in office.
Here’s a look at job creation under each president since the Labor
Department started keeping payroll records in 1939. The counts are
based on total payrolls between the start of the month the president took office
(using the final payroll count for the end of the prior December) and his final
December in office.
Because the size of the economy and labor force varies, we also calculate in
percentage terms how much the total payroll count expanded under each president.
The current President Bush, once taking account how long he’s been in office,
shows the worst track record for job creation since the government began keeping
records. –
Click sight above to see chart.
@MD/MI
I have to disagree.... there is no longer anything GREAT about the GOP.
I think GREEDY OBSTRUCTIONIST PARTY is more representative of what the party has become.
Agree.
D, I like that! G O P
That too.

D - Dag-Gummed-It That is what I Meant to put "Greedy" === Thank You !!
@TM,
You seem to be concentrating on (net) jobs created. If that is true, then Obama is at a (net) job loss so far and will be the only President to have a (net) job loss in modern history at the end of his term.
@TMom & Crackhead
LOL.... those are both great... and certainly descriptive of the subjects in question.
Which party had control of Congress while those 500,000 jobs per month were being lost and had been in control of congress since 2006?
just saying...
Storm, vote for Romney. You deserve him. He will throw you under the bus, and I won't feel the least bit sorry for you or anyone else too stupid to see the facts of what his policies are! So keep on taking up for the GOP, vote your enemies into power! You deserve what you get.
@India LeCarre,
Ditto.
God help us!
storm,
the democratic congress did get a lot done for the american people, but that is also when when the filibustering by the repubs was ramped up.
you CANNOT BLAME the democratic congress for the damage that w. bush and the repub party did for the first 6 years of the bush/cheeeeney administration. 2 wars not funded, medicare part D, and the second part of the bush tax cuts signed into law the same month (march 2003) w. bush/cheeeeney invaded iraq.
just sayin'.
Suzette, "Just sayin' it pretty well, too!
Storm fell down the rabbit hole. He is in Foxworld now.
Storm- the fools are in agreement mode today...
Rusty...
What hypocrisy..
just saying...
So why did it take almost two years to pass the ACA?
I was going to try to explain to 2ez about the Pipeline, but forget it. You can't get anything through those concrete heads without a jackhammer. And even if you manage to break through, there's nothing in there but air. It's useless to try to convince them of anything. They have their own set of facts and nothing, not even the truth can sway them.
Indeed a waste of skin. Maybe Cheney needs some parts...
Romney's excuse when he was a governor in mass. "It takes awhile to get the jobs numbers turned around.? Want to hear his other excuses?
The Business Insider:
http://news.yahoo.com/why-did-mitt-romney-lose-2006-massachusetts-governor-220200332.html
Numbers don't lie, do they?
Keystone Pipe Line and the jobs it would create, Won't create anywhere near the jobs the Republicans claim. That oil from Canada is not intended for the United States. It is intended to be processed on the Texas and Louisiana coast, and shipped to South America, Japan, China and wherever the Canadian Government can get the most money for there Shale Oil. That Keystone Pipeline will also INCREASE the price at the pump for those in the central and mountain states.
The US shuts down Iranian banking to halt Iranian oil imports.
It would be insane to postpone the keystone pipeline after cutting off oil exports from Iran, but ...
The pipeline is a problem because large aquifers put the water table less than 10 feet beneath the surface plus there are active earthquake faults and a subduction zone that could rupture the pipe and permanently contaminate ground water. There is no possible way to clean up a spill if water pours into the hole as soon as you dig it.
Meanwhile ... off in the middle east.
Iranians have 10 uranium mines and a fully functional nuclear power plant developed under the Atoms for Peace program started by republicans after a coup that killed 800 Muslims from influential families.
That power plant has enough used fuel to produce dozens of plutonium warheads in a few months if the chemical processing facilities are ready to go. They don't need fancy centrifuges for that. They need cranes, trucks, stainless steel vats, acid, robots, electricity, and cameras.
Obama was trying to convince the Iranians to abandon nuclear warheads for anti-ship cruise missiles.
Iran was negotiating to abandon their nuclear program until Cain, Bachmann, Romney, and Gingrich said they would nuke Iran at about the same time that someone assassinated the top level manager in charge of the Iranian nuclear program.
For some strange reason that nobody can understand, Iran decided to stop negotiating about nuclear weapon development.
Big surprise.
Wow.
Someday we might have to sit through this skit on Saturday Night Live.
Chuck, I was going to respond to MJB about the pipeline and trying to explain it. You're right and it is very
Don't be conned by the inflated claims made by Rethuglicans about the Keystone pipe line. For one thing the possible supplies used for construction you can bet your sweet life that they will be produced in China or some other LOW WAGE country. I include 2 links that show a completely different story from the propaganda you see on FAUX NOISE
got cut off. 2ez can go to nrdc.org and read all about keystone xl and the lies the GOP tell about it.
2ez
@MJB
@Crackhead
I love your NOT NEWS logo.... it's perfect. Good points about Keystone also.
@DScully-2892243,
Thanks.
@xxxooo,
The reason it took so long to pass the ACA is that it was bad policy.
He needs to stop blaming anyone but himself and his policies.
few hundred permanent jobs - few thousand temporary jobs during construction (not that it makes any difference)
the major problem with ACA is that there is NO SINGLE PAYER
Crybaby: I was alive then. So I don't need your half baked story. I remmeber the fearmongering the teapublicans pushed it was gonna be the end of the world.
Willard is pro flipper and if he doesn't change his stance it will be all but over for him and the rest of the Teapublicans in 2012.
@xxxooo,
We were bleeding 800k jobs per month when Obama took office which is why we passed a $780 billion dollar stimulus to 'save or create' 3 million jobs.
Republicans intentionally keep unemployment rate above 8%.
@DemElizabeth,
It is not a Republican Congress. It is a Republican House and a Democratic Senate. Both branches make up The Congress. My goodness. Teachers are supposed to know this stuff. The Senate (i.e. Harry Reid) has tabled more than 19 Republican Jobs bills and will not even allow them to be heard on the floor. Maybe the Senate is trying to obstruct what the House wants to do?
drill
@DrillBaby,
We are bleeding jobs because about 3 million consumers were deported or left the country.
@Rusty-2589429,
If you are not poor (i.e.: you can afford health insurance) and you choose to not buy any, then you pay $95 more for income tax until about 2015 when the payment increases to $695 or 2% of your income.
The supreme court rule that this is a tax and not a penalty.
This tax prevents free-loaders from burdening emergency rooms and forcing the rest of us to make up for their irresponsible behavior.
Poor people don't need to worry about any of this (only affects middle class and wealthy).
@DrillBaby
GOP = Greedy Old Perverts
Or could it be he just wants everyone to know how erudite he is!
olebudo3

TC- lol- you nailed it. The other make believe the left tries is to say how Bush's deregulations ... Bush was the biggest regulator ever, and I'm not even for sure if Obama has passed him yet in significant regulations. Bush worked with the Dems on numerous regulatory issues, financial and environmental and social.
But- for people who have trouble with reality, it makes a good sound bite to blame everything on Bush's deregulations. I've asked numerous times to have them list especially financial deregs on Bush's part. Nothing significant has arisen yet... And definitely- nothing that netted out to deregs.
@thoughtful conservative
@oldbud03,
I agree with you completely. Michael Eric Dyson is nothing but a left-wing race baiter. The only words I have heard come out of his mouth are to futher divide this country along cultural and race lines.
Make a better choice next time ED.
OleBud...which party controlled the House of Representatives from 2006 -2010 leading up to and during the recession?
just saying...
Ole- already did. Read my post. Then ask you question. Your entire segment is nothing but innuendo and anecdotes. You tossing in some bold fonts doesn't make them real...
@MJB
Rusty
I posted the info below to YOU on the June 29 blog, which you apparently ignored or didn't bother to check out. It was #1.88... but here it is again. Watch the link and it explains why there is no real penalty in the mandate.
The best explanation of the mandate, or actually the NON-mandate... because the ACA has a mandate in "word only" without any real enforcement mechanism has been done a numerous occasions by Lawrence O.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45755883/vp/47989648#47972054
Oh-on Unions- I've been on both sides of the negotiating table. Trust me- there is as much greed on one side as the other.

Not surprising after all the months of obstructing the presidents bills to get the economy going. But its all gloom and doom other parts of the economy have been picking up. And we don't need a guy telling us we got a kick in the gut! We need to kick some in the ass!
Hi xxx!!
People can't spend if they have no jobs....why can't they get this simply little truth? Actually they know this. It's easy to see why all the obstruction.

No, we need to kick just one guy out of office because he doesn't know what he's doing and has surrounded himself with baffoons.
Oh, Drill, Bush has been out of office for 3 1/2 years. We have a new guy in there now that isn't stupid like george and shady cheney. This new bunch doesn't allow buffoons. Come on catch up. We already kicked the bush out.

want to hear something very sad
there was more claiming disability then fond a job
only 80,000 jobs was fond but we had 85,000 file for disability last month
As a mater of fact Obama has only created 2.6 million jobs but 3.1 million has filed for disability during his term as President
You cant have a more pathetic term when you have more filing for disability then you have finding a job

News Flash Bush isn't running for president
Running from...even before he was done destroying the economy.
Duh!
BIG news flash>>>>TRFjr,
I would love to see Mitt Romney and George W Bush running against each other for president.
Hi Mom,
True.
Racial profiling is authorized by section 412 of the Patriot Act was enhanced in 2007, and that is responsible for the population decline that collapsed the automotive, real estate, banking, and construction industries.
The banking industry warned Bush about this in 2007, and the response was to create the "loan modification program" to protect the banking industry.
The banking industry was in trouble because Bush authorized predatory lending in 2003 that created subprime mortgages that were worth less that the property, so banks failed because they couldn't get their money back by foreclosing on property.
@DemElizabeth,
I don't hear Bush out there blaming the Democratic House and Senate that were elected in 2006 for the collapse of the subprime lending bubble.
@DrillBaby,
Bush has been hiding under a rock.
@CA,
Obama will be under that same rock in about 200 days.
If so, then it might be time to leave the country.
@CA,
Might I suggest Mexico? It's close, it's relatively inexpensive, and except for all the guns that our Justice Department let into the country, still safe if you're not into drug smuggling.
@DrillBaby,
The US is in the middle of a global money war and the republicans disarmed us by emptying the social security trust fund.
@Drill,
One more coincidence.
Isn't it amazing that private companies are sitting on $2 trillion in assets immediately after $2.5 trillion was plundered from the social security trust fund bringing the US government on the brink of bankruptcy.
One more war and the US goes extinct like the do do bird.
@CA,
Sounds like a good plan to me. If Romney's elected, move to Mexico.
After almost 10 years of the BUSH tax cuts this is the promise showing in all its glory! Even a trickle is now a drip just like the guy who put it in place. Say thanks to George!
END THE CUTS NOW!
Petition/End BUSH TAX CUTS!

the rethuglicans (who are in the back pocket of corporate America) have absolutely NO intention of working for the people and creating jobs since they fear that would give credit to our president.
Don't Bomb The Economy in November!
Are human beings a burden or asset? Conservatives assume wealth creates jobs and kick out immigrants to reduce unemployment. Using fantasy as a basis for public law produces bad outcomes. Liberals increase immigration based on the assumption that consumer demand creates jobs. One of these two concepts can be true, but not both.
Conservative ideologies are distributed to the public using Fox Entertainment products that include frequent input from the following television, radio, and newspaper personalities.
Conservative politicians improve popularity by repeating ideas made popular by conservative television, radio, and newspapers.
How did this happen?
Our first Republican president freed the slaves.
Bigotry became part of the republican party during the 1990s when the United States journalism industry was realigned by foreign investors.
There is no scientific, biblical, or other factual evidence to support these conservative claims about race, nationality, and sexual orientation.
Hearst enterprises sold it's political journalism products to New World Communication in 1994, which became affiliated with Fox after controlling interest was purchased by Rupert Murdoch in 1997 (now News Corporation).
Hearst media is best summarized by the following.
The Hearst-Murdoch business-model is based on a very simple phenomenon explained best by Churchill.
The United States population crashed twice.
Wealth depends upon steady consumer demand, which depends upon population growth.
The following sequence events caused the Great Depression.
Basic economic theory indicates prices and wealth depend on consumer demand, so deportation will create unemployment when it reduces population enough to impact consumer demand.
The Great Recession followed the same population recipe as the Great Depression, with the same result.
Why would voters choose to collapse the economy?
The Barnum Effect (or Forer Effect) is the observation that most people can be temporarily fooled into believing false concepts using vague general statements and coincidence.
National Institutes of Health indicates half the population develops mental illness during their lifetime, with 1 in 4 affected at any one time. This includes a spectrum of illness that include delusional beliefs.
Negative emotions dominate positive -- anxiety, fear, hatred, anger, and rage are very popular.
This is bigotry.
William Randolph Hearst was the first journalist to exploit bigotry for profit, which was the birth of the modern conservative movement.
Half the wealth in the United States depends upon real estate, and rising wealth depends upon rising population.
Intellect allows you to overcome blind emotions so you can choose correctly in complex situations.
Emotions are feelings that may have no basis in the real world. Blind emotion causes mass drowning of lemmings that migrate when food becomes scarce.
Identity Control Theory provides a systematic understanding of how to exploit voting populations using basic emotions to produce the desired outcome.
The law of care for consequences produces the intellectual restraint that prevents us from injuring people that anger us. Intellectual charismatic appeal works with our reasoning abilities. Our intellect allows us to view the world from different viewpoints to gain a richer perspective of the world.
Intellect occupies many dimensions.
Emotions have only one dimension - selfishness.
@CA,
Sounds like a good plan to me. If Romney's elected, move to Mexico.
Crackhead,
thanks so much for your informative, enlightened, fact-filled posts.
i have learned so much from you.
take these republicans out and put them in front of a firing squad for treason,
Tea Party Republicans may have committed an act of treason involving Operation Fast and Furious.
Treason definition:
Article 1 section 8 of the US constitution does not authorize congress the power to coerce other branches of government. Any power not mentioned in article 1 section 8 is prohibited. That means the contempt charge violates the constitution.
One of the reasons that executive privilege exists is so that the identity and home address of law enforcement officials can be kept secret so that the criminals can't hunt them down and kill them.
It is illegal to release wiretap information, depositions, and investigation transcripts because this violates the National Security Act of 1947 and other federal laws.
Releasing wiretaps and transcripts would give aid to enemies involving the war on drugs and terrorists by allowing criminals to gain the true identity of law enforcement officials - the constitutional definition of treason.
Contempt of Congress definition:
Holder provided congress with over 7,600 pages of documents and has made numerous high-level officials available for public congressional testimony, transcribed interviews, and briefings.
DoJ stopped disclosures stopped because sensitive national security information contained in prior disclosures were disclosed to the press.
So US Code 18 Chapter 119 Section 2510 is as follows.

Time to give them a blindfold and a cigarette! I hope the President has had enough of them I sure have!
GREAT JOB! C.A.
Forget the blindfold and don't give them a cigarette. They've polluted the air enough!
Okay no last requests...
@CA,
Eric Holder may have handed over the 7,600 pages of documents that he wanted to, but he did not had over the ones Congress wanted to see.
@CA,
Operation Wide Receiver, started under the Bush Administration, was done in conjunction with the Mexican Government.
@DrillIdiot,
Congress asked for wiretap information and wiretap transcripts that are prohibited, so Holder cannot release that information without committing a felony.
If you actually have an electrical engineering degree they you have already read US Code 18 Chapter 119 Section 2510 that restricts the types of products you can legally build and use.
Bohner knows the contempt vote is unconstitutional because the requested documents are prohibited for release by federal law.
What school did you go to?
Every EE/EL engineer knows this.
How is it possible for you to have a college education and not know this?
You can be thrown in jail if you don't know this.
Every accredited electronics/electrical program is required to cover things like this.
drillbaby lives in Foxworld. He is out of reach of reason. Not worth your time, CA. I have him on ignore.
He fell down the rabbit hole.
Ditto.
This contribution was meant more for people that are unbiased and therefor susceptible to false suggestion.
About 25% of the population is full-blown delusional and will produce "intellectually compromised offspring" if not interrupted with cold hard facts.
@CA,
You're hilarious,
"How is it possible for you to have a college education and not know this?"
The professor for the electronics lab where I built my first high gain amplifier covered electronic surveillance laws.
Perhaps that is why Cal Polly has a better reputation than most other schools.
@CA,
You keep dreaming!! You and this President are going need it. The first professor I had said, "If you want to build an oscillator, build a high gain amplifier."
drillbaby = sarah palin.
nuff said.
Drill baby, Holder didn't committ any crime. Issa may have. He is the one who better lay low. The laws were broken by Arizona agensts. Issa never had his facts straight he was just after a scandal, and he wanted blood.
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/06/darrell-issa-and-house-r
How low can Congress go? Bring on the Clowns.
@TM,
Do you really think Holder committed no crime? The length of your rebuttal proves otherwise. I have read all of your posts and I do not know how this exonerates Eric Holder from contempt from Congress. He knew about 'Fast and Furious' way before he said he did.
TM,
great post.
grover norquist, with help from the repub party, has accomplished what he set out to do-make it nearly impossible for a democratic president to govern.
i always remember the prosecution and false imprisonment of Don Siegelman because the w. bush administration wanted this populat democratic gov. out of office, and replaced with a repub in alabama.
this type of behavior is nothing new for repubs. as a general rule we do not see this kind of behavior from democrats. starting when H.W. bush was ambassador to china, his mistress, jennifer fitzgerald traveled everywhere with him. the chinese were slackjawed that he traveled so openly with his mistress. he did this throughout his v. presidency, and his presidency. everyone knew it, yet democrats said nothing. only a few short years later, Clinton was impeached by a repub congress that was doing the same thing he was.
at the same time that the democratic congressman, Gary Condit was being hammered (LED BY FOX NEWS) for his affair with, and the murder of Chandra Levy, a republican congressman was also having an affair with one of his staff in florida, Lori Klausutis. they found her dead body in his office. reasons for her death are not clear, (an "accident") but it was only mentioned in a florida newspaper. this republican congressman must have felt very lucky that a democrat was being demonized for an affair and blamed for the death of his mistress, while he, the republican, escaped all scrutiny.
republicans feel entitled, or led by god, to right the wrongs of others, even though they themselves do the same things. they are very good at staying on message, and gullible people who listen to fox news, and to repubs, gobble it up and take it as the final word.
i do not believe that Holder did anything wrong. this is just another witch hunt by repubs to destroy a presidency, and to destroy anyone next to him. i do find it interesting that both men are black. why is issa, and the republicans treating our President and Attorney General with such disrespect?
you believe that Holder knew about fast and furious way before he said he did, just because issa says it is true, and fox news pushes this propaganda.
it's OK to be patient with george zimmerman, and wait for the facts, but you have already declared Holder guilty.
2ez4u2c2,
There's no doubt it is GOP obstructing.
Brad Cantor, Spot on! Good post! Keep 'em comin'!
Do you liberals think before you post?
Boy it must be a RED LETTER day for the homeland terrorist!
It's nothing but GOP obstruction, it's been part of their plan since
President Obama has been elected. And it's disgusting how the republicans are rejoicing that Americans are still hurting.
Willard is a pro with extreme knowledge on job destruction. And I must give the GOP a AA
Arating. GWBs birthday and he can finally say mission accomplished..http://caucuses.desmoinesregister.com/2011/10/01/mixed-job-picture-when-romney-was-mass-governor/
TMom: Oh NO! I hope we all aren't doomed like Massachusetts!
No way, xxx, willard will still be out of a job.
The Republicans vowed to focus on making sure that President Obama was a "one-term president."
Oh, thats right, we can just borrow more money from China...good idea..
just saying...
We need more consumer demand to create jobs.
Option A: increase government spending.
Option B: increase number of consumers (immigration reform).
Option C: increase income and reduce unemployment by funding education
Why are republicans fighting to reduce all 3 at the same time?
Can you say sabotage?
CA, SABOTAGE!
Drewbe- do you feel stupid when you see Storms response putting perspective on your thoughts?
