The right wing is criticizing Chris Rock for a tweet he made about slavery and the 4th of July. Dr. James Peterson joined Michael Eric Dyson to discuss Rock's Independence Day message.

This is coming from fake noise? they don't know much about writings of the time. I guess they haven't studied African-American History.
keep on tweeting Chris, you rock!
In reality only 1.4 percent of the US Population owned slaves, in fact some of the Slave Owners were Black. How is it the entire White population of today is at blame for what 1.4 percent of the population did nearly two hundred years ago? I have been seeing this new "White Privilege" crap and have to wonder what people are thinking. They suggest that our entire society is set up to exclusively benefit Whites, while obstructing the opportunities for others. What a joke. If this is the case why is it that on average Asians have a higher incomes than Whites? Are these people suggesting Asians are smarter than Whites or for that matter other minorities? How did Obama become president? Did the system that oppresses his Black half fail while the system that benefits his White half succeed? Seeing race in every thing and every one is getting really old. When will people simply see people for what they are, individuals.
Meanwhile teapublicans are taking voters off the rolls and restriction voters and most of them are what? Not and issue!!! Seems to me they are doing a great job enforcing racism!
Republicans can't take a joke. They're too busy being one.
what ever happened to constructive criticism. Chris could have said black slaves got an all expense paid luxury ocean cruise to the States. why would they kick about that.....just no humor anymore from the far right.........
Don't expect anyone from the right to be able to have any intelligent conversation on race it will not happen you're just another example. I don't if you read it but you might notice he was talking about 1776 not 2012. Slavery was there thus his comment is based in fact.
Our entire society isn't built to benefit white protestants but it was not too long ago.....
xxx, "And most of them are?" Dead or ineligible to vote.
Cynical, There is no doubt there was Slavery in 1776. There is also no doubt such comments incite people and that they are intended to do so. Chris Rock like millions of other Blacks have benefited from our way of life and will continue to so, even though there is a percentage that attempts to live in the past. Chris Rock was never a Slave, no one a live today was a Slave, and there are no Slave owners living. It is time to get over it.
2ez
You need to provide links for your first post!
I have my own links that state that 33% of the families in the South owned slaves - I don't see any mention of Black Plantation owners though.
OF COURSE the total percentage in the US of ALL people will be low - the North wasn't into the slavery trade and that is where the greatest population was.
The rest of your post - well - provide your "links" if you can!
You says he isn't over it?
no one lives in the past you live in a present which doesn't exist
the jews are fighting for right of claim to jerusalem that was over a thousand years ago they lost control of the region guess they should get over it too....some wounds never heal
Here are a few sites:

://americancivilwar.com/authors/black_slaveowners.htm
Still want to hear who is blaming the entire white population of today for slavery and where Chris Rock said that
It's quite strange you weave in issues which no one intended to speak of in the first place
funny how you've apparently noticed this alleged new white privelage issue now instead of a few decades ago when it actually existed
so here's the reality there was slavery and racial animosity perpatrated toward blacks by whites under the law
blacks were considered subhuman
you could kill a colored person with impunity in the south if you were white
It happened live with it and stop pretending it didn't or that it was so long ago and just accept it. There is no blame, that's just how it happened... get over it.
Now on this benefitting from "our way of life" be quite careful with that because someone could very easily make you sound like a racist. It's a little too much like Pat Buchanan blacks should show gratitude for whites for slavery. You don't have to agree with that but just understand when minority people here that it feels quite offensive...and I would know I'm black. Now you geing white you can't understand that but just trust me you might want to not phrase it that way 'cuz people interpret that as racism....just helping you out
there are people alive today who were beaten for trying to get the right to vote or had family members murdered because of race only to see the killers go free of any consequences....so no it is not in the past....not for those people.... perhaps if you were in a demographic that has actually had to fight for equal status under the law you'd understand that....but it isn't so long ago in a galaxy far far away
Cynical, Yes there was Slavery and some White people owned them. And yes there were many incidents where some Whites committed unspeakable acts against Blacks. And yes Blacks were denied the right to vote. There are two key points here. The first is the word "Were". Today Blacks can vote, they can enlist or be commissioned in the military, they can achieve success, they can be President of the United States. The second point is that these atrocities against Blacks were committed by some Whites, a small percentage of the population. When Slavery existed in the United States over half the White population did not have the right to vote. Much like today the laws were made and enforced by the Wealthy, the Ruling Elite. To say today that All Whites are responsible for what some did in the past is doing nothing more than attaching blame to people that had no involvement whatsoever. Chris Rock or anyone else can say or write whatever they want, but there are ramifications. I have no doubt his intentions were to incite and he was successful.
Alot of white people were part of the underground railroad and alot of white people fought for the north in the civil war. I think sometimes we seem to forget that alot whites have helped blacks over the years.
I'm still waiting to see where Chris Rock or anyone else for that matter blames all modern whites for slavery. This is your odd far larger unrelated personal issues at work.
Chris Rock is a lackluster comedian to even imply he's intelligent enough to weave some larger narrative in gives him far too much credit.
The issue of slavery is white vs black and all others in american culture. You know that and your historical opinion on it is irrelavent. You know that is exactly how this society has always framed the argument.
As to were you again forget that those who were attacked, say people in their families murdered or assaulted by individuals with the same pervailing common attribute of being well...white are still lving so no it's no that far in the past. Like some wounds don't heal.
I have no doubt you sit up long nights terrified of the racial inciting in the heats of so many but I assure you you're wasting your time. Pointing out the past doesn't mean you live in it.
Wealthy ruling elite....careful there that's sounding like satanic socialist "class warfare"
Teapublican's!! Can't take a joke...never have....never will! But they sure know how to pick one!
Romney's plan for jobs! Talk about a JOKE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I guess you can be funny without understanding what funny is!
Chris Rocks!
love his comment about how long it took the Mormans to stop callin blacks evil.
The fact that the right wants to call anyone who points out inconvieniate parts of american history anti-american and just shows their own lack of understanding of what america or any other civil society is about not to mention their own immense hyprocrisy when they attack the president, teachers, gay americans and various others...that's criticism of american society so by their own logic they must be america haters as well
michelle malking talks out of her caboose almost as much as mama moose
I am 100% positive thats why Obama put the 10% white tax in the health care law. Hes getting back at white people for slavery. Thats right lets put a 10 tax on tanning salons ( good one Mr President) sure aint going be no brothers lined up to get a tan.
Yeah white people. Like his mother who raised him pretty much by herself.
Oh I thought he was our 1st black President. I didnt relise he was white with all of the racist who disagree with him because hes black.
I'm there's a great many things you don't realize but he isn't black or white he's both but it never stops idiots like yourself from saying things that are well, idiotic.
