Republican congressman Lee Terry of Nebraska said that his party has no plan to replace Obamacare if the party manages to repeal it.
Yesterday, ThinkProgress spoke to the congressman before the Supreme Court ruling and asked him what the Republican plan is to insure the 57 million Americans who have pre-existing conditions.
"We're going to work on that," Terry said. But he offered no specifics.
When the reporter asked Terry to offer more details, Terry flatly said there was no plan.
KEYES: Are there any ideas on how to do that?
TERRY: There’s going to be lots of ideas. We just have to accept all of them.
KEYES: Do we have any yet?
TERRY: We’re going to hold hearings, we’re going to invite experts. This is not going to be a closed process at all. It’s going to be completely open where we take as many ideas for reform as we can get and then we’ll see what it takes to deal with those that need more attention if they have significant pre-existing. So we’re going to deal with all of those issues.
KEYES: The mantra for a while has been “repeal and replace.” Is there an idea of what the replace would be yet?
TERRY: No. We want to take it in a very deliberate, open approach and take everybody’s ideas.
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last Monday and insisted that the Republicans did have an alternative health care policy.
But during the entire interview Rubio was unable to deliver any specifics.
RUBIO: "I don't want the Republican party to be the opposition. I want it to be the alternative. And to be an alternative you have to offer ideas and I think I have and we have on insurance."
STEWART: You think the Republicans have offered the alternative to -
RUBIO: Sure. I think we've offered alternatives and certainly the elements of an alternative to the Obamacare plan. Absolutely. I did on the campaign on specific terms.
STEWART: And is it so that it just hasn't been picked up and written down yet?
RUBIO: No it's been picked up and written down. There have been individual plans that have been talked about and I think I've discussed it in my campaign in great detail.

Evidently no one told Mitty yet. Repeal and replace, repeal and replace. He's going to need a new lie to convince the suckers.
Every word that rolls off the lips of all republicans, is a lie. They have sunk to the bottom of the barrel and many Americans have jumped right down to the bottom with them.
It's truly a shame the GOP is devoting all their efforts to fulfill Senator McConnell's dream of making President Obama a one-term president. Anything our president does or attempts to do for the American people, these Republicans will try their best to derail. Rubio's "alternative" line says it all; they don't want the President to have credit for anything.
hey wake up repubs....it was a republican plan. ask Mass
Treason-placing profits over the American Citizens, I repeat American Citizens! I'm supporting the President!
well well mutt don't you realize that the very same thing you will repeal and replace is the same damn thing is the very same thing you did in mass, when will you ever shut the hell up? well go ahead repukes play your silly game with our AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE all you'll accomplish here is what we now have. think about it.
No! The Republicans have no plan to replace the AHA? You mean like trickle-down made the rich richer and nothing went to the middle-class and the poor? Like when tax-cuts for the job creators only made the rich richer and nothing went to the middle-class and the poor? They just want to benefit the insurance companies and nothing will go to the middle-class and the poor?
I think I see a pattern. Give the rich and the corporations what they want immediately, and the rest of us can just wait, and wait, and wait for ours, and then.......they'll just forget about it.
Not this time, clowns.
I think I heard Ann Romney has MS.I'll be willing to bet either she has insurance or she can afford to pay for treatment herself.I do not envy her having this disabling disease. But let's take a look at this. What about the woman or man that has this disease or any disabling disease and has no insurance or any way to pay for treatment themselves.Eventually they become so disabled they are not able to work. They will either be turned down by insurance companie's or pay a zillion dollar's for a policy, due to preexisting conditions. Also they may not be disabled or old enough to qualify for medicaid or medicare.Who help's these unfortunate people, and there are millions of them.Do their friends have a benefit for them every day,or should they get help from the Affordable Care Act?My opinion is the latter. But Romney and republicans would let them waste away without giving it a second thought. And they have the ball's to talk about death panels!Amazing.
Ann has found an elite remedy for relieving her MS. Riding her expensive show horse. I sure hope if I'm ever struck with that debilitating disease, I'll be able to get a show horse too.
It's cutting-edge medicine. You have to have the right insurance plan.
If the republicans were smart they wouldn't have abandoned and denounced the health care plan. Then they could have taken some credit, but of course that's if republicans were smart.
They're so bent on fighting the President that they don't know right from wrong.
The people of T party or a bonch of primetif people it a disgrace for the people of me and the rest of America they or getting some thing good for them
No plans to replace Health care? Geez..........................what a surprise.
That is the same as when Reagan, then govenor of California, closed all the mental hospitals down and "promised" halfway houses so thsee people would have a place to live. California streets are full of mentally ill people, all thanks to Ronald Reagan. I lived in California when this happened too.
I'll bet they're all Republicans.
The Presidential debates will be ALL telling. American people want to know exactly what the GOP/Tea plan is for jobs, healthcare, immigration reform, human rights, education reform, tax reform, etc. Jobs were sold as the GOP platform in 2010...still waiting!
I'm sick of my tax dollars, going to a do nothing congress. Give them 1 week vacation a year, end the perks these people get and let them pay for their own healthcare. That's just for starters.
I will never forget the night Marco Rubio was elected. It was I am here for the greater good of the people or the USA. But his exact word were. THIS IS ABOUT POWER AND CONTROL. And I will die before backing up on his comments that came out of his mouth just momnents after being elected.. Thius man has no right to serve or be a elected member of any congressionalpart of, the greatest country in the world!!!
WE need some quantitative analysis not just all the BS spewed from the right and if any from the left it needs to stop too. My simple start is to say we can average the total health care money spent the last 5 or 10 years and as we all have heard we are almost twice as costly per person than any other country on the amount we spend (maybe three times as much if you just use the insured population in the denominator, and assume the uninsured do not equal another socialized country's whole person because they all get free health care and will live a lot healthier and longer than our uninsured). Next we need to analyze what we have got and what we could get for that same amount spent if done differently. Now we should admit that we do get access to some of the best if not the best top end health care like the services at the famous Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins University, etc. and for some diseases we get better outcomes on the average than even the best of other countries. But is that worth twice the cost if we have so many people uninsured and living on the edge of either very poor health or going bankrupt or both? Also what are the main things making it cost twice as much per person? Can some of those be trimmed back significantly quick or even over a few years, so that savings could go to services for the poor and uninsured? That is can we become 10-20% more efficient and open up more patient services to those uninsured Americans for a cost they can afford? Hey repubs, it is a Team Effort and that means you have to look at all options for the team with such a complex problem...oh that means someone may not get real rich or richer out of the pain and suffering and disease of our fellow Americans when they have to get real efficient and maybe not bloat their bonuses? I can't think of a more important and better way to show patriotism than to grab a weapon to defend the country/join the military OR give a fellow American the opportunity for good health at a price they can afford, can you?
I have not yet seen a comprehensive health care plan penned by the GOP, all I hear is repeal and replace, replace with what?
The GOP side show has nothing to do with health care and is all about taking down Barack Obama.
One "front" is the health care plan. The other "front" is attacking AG Holder, women, the middle class, the poor, aliens, legal, illegal, from earth or from outer space. The list goes on.
Happy fourth of July everybody!
