Tom Goldstein of the SCOTUS blog breaks down the Supreme Court's ruling on health care. When asked why Chief Justice John Roberts voted to uphold the law, Goldstein said, "I think he believed it."
BREAKING: In a dramatic victory for President Barack Obama, the Supreme Court upheld the 2010 health care law today, preserving Obama’s landmark legislative achievement.
LIVE VIDEO — Lawmakers weigh in on the Supreme Court's decision on President Obama's health care overhaul.
The majority opinion was written by Chief Justice John Roberts, who held that the law was a valid exercise of Congress’s power to tax.
The decision came as a sharp rebuff and disappointment to congressional Republicans, many of whom had expected the court to strike down at least some parts of the law.

Ed will have extended coverage of today's decision tonight on The Ed Show at 8pET on MSNBC with House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi!
Victory for the American people! Millions of American families and children will have certainty of health care benefits + affordable care.
— Nancy Pelosi (@NancyPelosi) June 28, 2012

victory for the President and the american people.
waiting for all responses from repubs.
I went on record last night saying it would be upheld 6-3! I can gloat now, like I said I would!
Gloat, gloat..................thank you SCOTUS!
on tuesday, i also predicted it would be upheld.
i am excited for this "win" for President Obama and for the american people.
the Supreme Court has just pulled the rug out from under the repub party, and after bush v. gore, and citizens united, its about time.
WHAT THE PRESIDENT DID IN REGARD TO HEALTH CARE IS CONSTITUTIONAL, but we knew that already.
Yep! Our president finally got the respect he so deserves. I knew a constitutional scholar from Harvard would not have gotten it wrong. Obama would never write an unconstitutional law!
And he didn't! Thank God! Thank Justice Roberts!
Suzette, There are 300 million Americans, the decision may benefit a few, but it does so on the backs of the remainder. We were told all along the penalty was not a tax, yet now it has all of a sudden become a tax. Obama said he would not rise taxes on the Middle Class but he has just done it. The vast majority of people that will be forced to purchase a product they do not need or pay additional taxes will in deed be Middle Class young people. Those that currently receive health care paid for by others will continue to receive health care paid for by others. The greatest travesty is the Supreme Courts abandonment of the Constitution.
2ez,
that is your opinion that they abandoned the constitution.
like the bible, people interpret the constitution differently. repubs think they have dibs on how the bible and the constitution should be interpreted.
we disagree on what is to be found constitutional.
surprise surprise.
did you agree with bush v. gore? i thought clearly that was unconstitutional, and apparently the supreme court did also, as they said it could not be used as a precedent.
did you agree with citizens united, another ruling that benefited the repub party.
i'm sure you would be happy if President Obama said, "i said it was not a tax, therefore i have decided that, since the supreme court says it is a tax, i will repeal this law myself".
president bush thought there were WMD in iraq. according to you, did he lie, or was he fed bad information? i think bush lied, and let intelligence take the fall. just my opinion.
as long as the court has deemed "Obamacare" constitutional, what difference does it make how it got to be law, in regard to President Obama? most americans want health care reform, and have said they don't mind paying extra taxes for things they need.
most americans also believe that the rich should pay more in taxes.
this is the first health care bill america has had. we need a health care bill, eventually covering everyone. we have to start somewhere. is the law perfect? NO. hopefully it will get better so all americans have health care.
i am Proud of President Obama and Chief Justice Roberts.
Suzette - sorry I don't have time for a lengthy response, I need to get back to work to earn money for the higher healthcare costs and higher taxes I will be forced to pay. I need to get to the gym to...I can't afford to be sick!
as long as the court has deemed "Obamacare" constitutional, what difference does it make how it got to be law, in regard to President Obama?
wow...hey, lets just say, now that Barry Bonds holds the homerun record, what difference does it make how he got there??? (Steroids- illegal)...
typical progressive- "The end justifies the means"...you are willing to lie, steal, cheat your way, as long as in the end, you get your way...screw principles...
most americans want health care reform, and have said they don't mind paying extra taxes for things they need.
not true regarding health care...MOST Americans do NOT like Obamacare...now that it will OFFICIALLY be a TAX (and a big one), even MORE people will hate it...
most americans also believe that the rich should pay more in taxes.
LOL...they aren't the ones going to be affected by this...they alraedy have health care, and are paying for it, and can afford any care they want...this will affect the middle class and poor...
I hope you work for your self and are not using the company computer for personal stuff. None of us can afford to be sick, but for those who really need it. This is fantastic.
No, I don't work for myself, but my employer does provide me with a very nice and affordable healthcare plan which I also put money into myself. Now I am concerned about the price skyrocketing or losing it completely.
It's a bright sun shinny day for so many. Cheers!
Roberts, a man with morals. Hip-hip hooray.....you don't impeach a judge who just did not morally agree with the haters......ROTFFL
Loose I guess you will have to deal with the insurace company crooks and drug company crooks. Sorry! So do I.
You are right Thankful, it is a good day for many. Congrats to all you statists and other non-producers out there!
Well, my insurance company and drug company actually treats me pretty well. The biggest crooks I put up with are in the government and unfortunately there isn't much I can do there.
Now I am concerned about the price skyrocketing or losing it completely.
very real concern...many companies are ON RECORD as saying they'd rather pay the piddly $2000 penalty, than provide $28K in health care for their employees...and who can blame them??? single payer is the next logical progression...don't blame your company or your insurance company for this one... this one is all on Obama, ROberts, and the other progressives...
CATT,
we can say the same things about repubs, you know.
to bush, what was the difference in how we got to fight the war in iraq? it didn't matter to him, as long as we got there. he himself said his biggest challenge as president was trying to convince the american people of the connection between 9/11 and iraq.
he made the connection with some people, mostly repubs like sarah palin, but i never believed their was a connection, just as many americans didn't. bush himself knew this, because he said it was his biggest challenge.
the end justifies the means not only for democrats, repubs do it alot. look at the war in iraq, the impeachment of bill clinton, the contempt of congress against eric holder. c'mon. repubs have used this tactic much more than democrats have, and they do it based on lies like "fast and furious".
no politician is perfect, and since President Obama has took office we really see how imperfect the repubs are (lie, steal, cheat) you don't see that?
repubs have not shown that they are concerned about the midle class and the poor.
mitt romney himself said, "the individual mandate is about personal responsibility" (2006).
but i guess you don't agree with or like mitt romney.
President Obama said it wasn't a tax.
Chief Justice Roberts said it was. why make such a big deal of that? lie, cheat, steal? I DOUBT IT.
Loose Cannon don't your know the health care will be in 2014 and for the cost of insurance go up because the insurance company are responseable for the high cost. Your need to do some fact checks before your post. The only reason your are against the health care bill it's because Obama and Dem did it and not the GOP in witch its a GOP plan anyway.
It wasn't the Supreme Court that changed. It was Roberts. All the others voted the way they always do.
Roberts' former law teacher said he would uphold it because he wouldn't want the Court to be seen as strictly political.
Funny how all the righties decry the Supreme Court for doing something they deem unconstitutional, when they applaud them for doing the same thing when it's something they want.
No problem with defining a building with people as a human being. Couldn't see anything wrong with that.
Yes, I need to do some "fact checking" - give me a break. Contrary to what you liberals think there is no such thing as free lunch. Someone has to pay for this monster of a healthcare bill - it is already more expensive than what we were told - shocking I know!
My health insurance costs are low now - I want them to stay that way.
henry,
maybe you had an appendage re-attached (your head or something else?).
just sayin'.
Boo Hoo Whaa Whaa.
henry,
i lost my head, sorry. i must be feeling a little giddy today.
wonder why?
if the repubs hadn't been so disrespectful to our President since he has been elected, i would not consider this such a big "WIN". all we hear about from them, and you, is the unconstitutionality of the health care law, ONE THAT WAS CONSTITUTIONAL BEFORE PRESIDENT OBAMA PUT IT ON THE TABLE.
I AM HAPPY FOR THE PRESIDENT AND THE MAERICAN PEOPLE.
we know this will benefit the insurance companies (the free market, capitalism?).
but it will also benefit the american people.
maybe there will be some balance for all.
Hey jerk! If you rested your case against liberals, SHUT UP!
Whiny little right-wingers. Come on this blog day after day insulting us, jeering us, whooping with applause when something goes against us. Then something goes our way, and you're all "Gee, you're mean, you aren't being nice to us, how can you say that?"
You know how? WE LEARNED IT FROM YOU!
Thanks for proving my above comment.
Why don't you leave and never come back? Everybody wins.
No, you started it with your comments from the last week. This ain't your first day, whiner.
roberts gave us citizens united and bush.
we are living with the results of both of those, just as you are.
bush was a disaster, and citizens united is proving to be the same way.
A few comments from Chris, who keep in mind, is complaining that us right wingers are whining.
"Hey jerk! If you rested your case against liberals. SHUT UP!"
"Why don't you leave a never come back?"
"No, you started it with your comments from last week."
Not whiny and mature. Haha.
Gee, a personal attack from someone who never has anything to say.
I guess you have to pick your battles.
By the way, liar, you left these out:

Amazing how you can't see that everybody needs health care. We all end up paying for them anyway, when they end up in the emergency room. This way, they'll have to pay for it, instead of the rest of us.
#8.5 - Thu Jun 28, 2012 12:05 PM EDT
I wasn't attacking you personally Chris, only your comments - you did say those things correct? I just feel if you are going to hold everyone else to a certain standard, you should probably hold yourself to those standards as well.
Henry - they may never agree with me, and frankly I don't expect them to - but you and I and others like us have every right to be here and I won't be punked by some guy like Chris. He is a typical bully and hypocrite, I just have the guts to call him out.
Wow, LC. What a gutsy move. Too bad you don't have the guts to admit when you're wrong. You just disappear.
The real Chris, What is so troubling about Henry's remarks is that he is one of the people who will most be helped by Obamacare!!! He just can't grasp it yet! I wish the president had driven home the benefits more clearly in order to counteract the lies and assaults from Fox noise and the toxic talkers.
Under Obamacare, after 2014 when it kicks in, the greedy insurance companies will be UNABLE to charge those outrageous fees! Also they will be prohibited from charging women more than men for health insurance. Already, it helps as preventive care for seniors is now free! Think how that will help costs if things are caught early or prevented entirely!
Suzette, It is one thing to have different opinions it is another to be specifically supported by the language of the Constitution itself. Each house of Congress has the power to introduce legislation on any subject dealing with the powers of Congress, except for legislation dealing with gathering revenue (generally through taxes), which must originate in the House of Representatives. How can the Supreme Court find a tax originated in the Senate to be Constitutional?
how could the supreme court annoint w. bush president, and allow individuals with money to buy elections?
i think those two are clearly more unconstitutional than what they did with health care reform today.
Suzette, It was the Democrats that were unhappy with the results of the elections. It was Democrats that took the issue to Court, and it was the Democrats that lost the Court battle. he Supreme Court didn't anoint any one. Bush was elected to a second term by the Electoral College.
As for any one buying votes, I believe it is unlawful. If you are referring to Citizens United the case simply allowed businesses to participate in the election campaign via donations and support for the candidates. Now if you were to say people are typically uninformed and significantly influenced by campaign ads, I would have to agree. Obama is a great illustration. Obama spent hundreds of millions in his campaign, bought a lot of air time, and won the election. So did money buy the election in Obama's case, I would say no. Frustrated voters looking for any one other than Bush was responsible for Obama winning. I believe we will see the same thing in 2012, frustrated voters looking for any one but Obama.
Yes! I can imagine the parents of an ill child who is now covered....!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wod-MudLNPA
Finally, something going OUR way for a change! I wonder if this will have an influence on finding Eric Holder in contempt. If they go ahead, it will look like sour grapes for losing the HC decision. If they don't it, will seem as if they think they need to back off to keep their approval ratings from sinking to zero in light of the SC decision. So another win-win for us.
I had such a strong feeling last night that it would be upheld. Thank God I was right!
I had such a strong feeling last night that it would be upheld. Thank God I was right!
I said it would be 6-3 upheld.
India, are you psychic? LOL
Nah after the AZ papers please law was torn apart monday you could see that more then likely the SCOTUS was going to vote the way they did this morning.
Good job India: on your call: Health care for all, SCOTUS, thank you, for putting Country before stupidity.
MJB, I have been told that I am psychic! Ever since I was little people have said that.
I also predicted last August that Romney would be the candidate. He was. He is.
Go ahead, ask me who will win the election! LOL
India I was predicting that when Mittens stepped out of McCains way so McCain could run in 2008. The GOP primaries are a dog and pony show to give the tea bagged base the illusion they pick their candidate, but everyone knows that since Nixon it is the wealthy donors who pick the GOP candidate, the dog and pony show is just for the purpose of showing the candidate is more sane then the rest, that is why RP keeps running, you can't get much more insane then RP.
see, whomit, Great Minds think alike!! LOL
Yeah its rather amusing how the tea bagged republicans who say they are so independent are lead around by the wealthy so easily.
O.K. India, what's your prediction? Karnak in your infinite wisdom, tell us oh Mighty One! LOL
India~ Are you a Pisces? Lots of them are psychic. My Mom was a Pisces and kind of psychic. She always knew who was on the other end when the phone rang. I mean if it was friends or relatives, not a salesman or something. LOL
They've created not one, but two monsters. We're never going to hear the end of how "great" Whom and India are. lol lol lol.
Something I find interesting though. The SC can't make a ruling on a law that has yet to be implimented, but did just that. I have a feeling that if, they will hear a ACA case again, there will be more filed on various parts individually. Let's hope the SCOTUS will say they've made their ruling and it ends.
Boehner said he is going to have a vote, I believe he said July 17, to repeal the Health care law. More political show and a waste of time and money. He knows that if it passes the house, it will never survive the Senate.
MJB, I'm a Scorpio. I used to freak my mother out by always telling her who was calling! I even told her when it was the wrong number!
Hi, Larry! Isn't it great! The people finally won!
MJB,
the repubs are madder than ever now, and they will make sure that they have Eric Holder to take their frustrations out on.
along with President Obama, and all democrats.
someone WILL HAVE TO PAY.
Finally, something from the SCOTUS actually makes sense
Every American should have affordable health care. The problem is Obamacare is a disaster and eventually will be overturned.
Roberts was quoted that his opinion was not saying Obamacare was a good law...that is up to Congress. But you can make people buy insurance as a tax. Thats it.
As a conservative, I still want to study the ruling but think it was fair. The ruling was NOT advocating Obamacare. It will be struck down and re-done after November.
What I do want to say though is all of the same people on the left who just love the court this morning..........IF THE RULING HAD BEEN DIFFERENT...............................................
...........THEY WOULD HAVE CRIED "RIGHT WING COURT". That is the sad part.
Now you lefties love the court. Up until this morning, when you thought they were going to strike it down...were crying and whining about the "political court".
That is just the way you guys are.
I accept the ruling and hope our leaders will make the right choices and decisions.
Mitt Romney for President of our United States of America.
Don't hold your breath on that Johnny.
Mittens BOL. Funny how not even 24 hours ago the tea bagged republicans were claiming that health care reform was going down the tubes and Obama was finished now look at them spinning.
I smell public option in the making......
what happened righties to that everything is black/white attitude?
nowwwwwwwww righties see greyyyyyyyyyyyy............
They see red after mondays ruling on the papers please law and todays heath care law they are seeing GOP blood flowing now they will double down on their bull@!$%# posts hoping that they can discourage voters to stay home in Nov.
I wish I were a picture in Ryans office....damn granny got away again.........
johnny,
you think we have no reason to feel that the supreme court has been acting partisanly since bush v. gore? the repubs in washington sent protestors to florida to STOP THE RECOUNT, which led to the supreme court annointing bush president.
you agree with citizens united, a decision that benefits repubs, just as bush v. gore did?
repubs HATE justices who "legislate from the bench", except when it benefits THEM. the last two big decisions by the court were clearly partisan, and in my opinion, unconstitutional.
it doesn't matter what Roberts thinks about the law "personally", as he can put that aside and look at the constitutionality of the law. americans who will now have health care don't care about Roberts personal feeling in regard to the law.
and lets not forget that when repubs came up with the idea for the "individual mandate" (mark pauly, h.w. bush administration) they never mentioned the unconstitutionality of it. it didn't become unconstitutional until Barack Obama put it on the table to try to get repub votes.
very conservative repubs found the individual mandate "constitutional before they found it "unconstitutional".
mitt romney sent his guys to the white house to help set this up. then with a straight face he says he wants to repeal the Obamacare, health care reform that was based on mass. law.
Bush won FLorida by 537 votes...officially...after 100 recounts...get over it...
and read RObert's ruling closely- he didn't declare the mandate constitutional...he ruled that congress has the power to TAX...and that's what this was ruled- a TAX...the biggest on Americans, ever...heck, this was how Obama and Pelosi argued it way-back-when...that it's a tax...and now, you have your wish...congrats!
Oh, please let him hold his breath on that one deep breathing would be better for him. It clears the mind and allows you to think better.
Bubble gum
Suzette, I am an insurance agent myself part time. I get pissed when someone gets turned down because of pre ex. It costs me money. I don't disagree with that part of the law and a couple of other parts. Its a lot of the other crap that messes it up. The reasons that waivers were given to businesses.
I am not against health care reform. But I do not want Barack Obama is a second term....for a lot of reasons that have nothing to do with health reform. I kind of knew the court would find a way to keep this intact...for the public. Its not good for businesses though. A lot of it needs to be changed.
About the mandate. I am not sure. Getting the IRS involved. I'm not sure.
I think Gov. Romney will put in a health care plan that will be good for the people and businesses.
I just don't trust Barack Obama. When you do not trust someone, you cannot be fore them.
Johnny~~Yeah, the dems, like repugs, want to win. The difference is, the dems want to win by being right on the law!!.
The repugs want to win BY HOOK OR BY CROOK! GOT IT???
catt,
check your facts. the final recount showed that Gore won florida. were it not for jeb bush, katherine harris and the repubs in washington who sent protestors to florida to stop the recount (they were given high ranking jobs in the bush administration, lie, cheat, steal) and DADDY BUSH'S friends on the supreme court, w. would never had been "annointed" president.
Insurance man? So the fact that Romney once had a heart and gave this almost exat plan to his people in Mass. They love it. They are not about to give it up. So why not give it to 33 million Americans.....would it hurt your business?
suzette- my facts check out...from the NY Times, AND the Washington Post, regarding recalls:
A group of media organizations conducted the Florida recount after Bush had been sworn in and determined that Gore might have won under certain types of recounts, but not under the type being used at the time Bush v. Gore was decided...
in other words, under the OFFICIAL recount system at the time, Bush won. you can't change the rules AFTER the fact...the facts are, at the time, Bush won. in every recount. get over it...that was 12 years ago...and besides- Bush gave you Justice Roberts, so you should be THANKING HIM right now...
C A T T #5.7~~The only tax will be charged, to losers like you, who will cut off your nose to spite your own face, and decline to have health insurance, based on your partisan political views against everything Obama. You have the option of taking personal responsibility and buy a health insurance policy, or you can choose to pay a tax, instead of paying for your insurance policy. For 30 years, I have been one of those with insurance, and mandated to help pay for those who have no insurance. It is now time for everyone to take responsibility for their own health care expenses.
i've already got it, gran...but thanks for playing...and for the classy comments...
Still in denial. Makes sense. Conservatives should leave the dummy-bubble here and there and see what the real world is doing.
BREAKING: SCOTUS has upheld the health care law
YES, YES., YES, and another BIG FAT YES, health care for all! YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
well, i gotta go on record...as I did yesterday...today is pity party for conservatives, not a gloat party...I'll man up and take my medicine...i will say i am VERY surprised...
at least now maybe you all will stop whining about a "Partisan court"...Roberts was the deciding vote, NOT Kennedy...Plus, this gives Romney an angle- he can now tout that since this WAS ruled to be a TAX, that Obama has just levied the largest tax increase in history on the American people. plus, ROmney is on record saying "day 1" that he will repeal this...this ruling may have just energized his base, given that 65% of Americans did NOT like Obamacare...
so congrats on the victory today...i admit i was wrong in my prediction...but lets hope its short lived, and Romney roars to victory in 5 months...
as for "Public Options" and such, if this ISN'T repealed, then when the Dems get control of the house and Senate back maybe in 15 years or so, the public option will be put in...and then it will truly be the economic ruin of our country...(as if we aren't there already)...
hey catt....catch up....public option is already in the works.....see Obamacare was just the opening...........
Oh, i know its already in the works...but without congress backing it (which they wont), Emperor Obama will have to go "Executive Order", which is done away with the swipe of a pen by a "R" President.
just so you know what you got, with this tax ruling...congress can now tax you on ANYTHING...they can say "Hesback, you need to go to the gym, so you HAVE to get a membership...otherwise, we'll tax you for not getting a membership"...or they could say "CATT, you HAVE to buy a green vehicle...if you don't, that's fine, but we'll tax you"...
are you sure that's a good environment to be in??? personally, not me...because of Roberts the Progressive, we can now be taxed on ANYTHING congress decides that we need to be taxed on...
ANYTHING...
hey catt have a good one....relax....I didn't like the Az outcome but hey....I got faith in the system and usually it works out for the mddle/poor class. ya know that majority vote stuff. would be nice to get the popular vote installed for a national vote instead of the college thing don't ya think?
also that tax stuff ya mention. ya think maybe they will tax the 1% more?
nah...this tax (OBamacare) will hit the poor and middle class- THEY are the ones without health care, not the wealthy...the poor and middle class just got the highest tax increase in their history...compliments of this plan...
i agree with you though- i have faith in the system also...i may not agree with every USSC ruling, but I accept it, cuz this system is head and shoulders above any other system on the planet.
interesting point about the electoral college...i wouldn't be opposed at all to a discussion surrounding going to a "popular" vote, rather than the EC...definitely a worthy topic, hesback...
you have a good one too...
Amazing how you can't see that everybody needs health care. We all end up paying for them anyway, when they end up in the emergency room. This way, they'll have to pay for it, instead of the rest of us.
Bingo Chris and this is why I keep saying the Republican Party has turned into a bunch of morons. The law is modeled on historically Republican ideas and ideals, the central one being personal responsibility, and now these folks are acting as if this is the coming of the AntiChrist.
...
Best comment you've ever made.
WOW-- This will tax the people who need it the least. Looks like obama and his ilk lied to all!
Nothing you right wing trolls say today will keep me from gloating and celebrating!!!
I happen to have a very sick daughter-in-law whom I love and who could die without this Affordable Care Act.
Spin away but reality is the GOP took a big bite of a @!$%# sandwich and they know it.
How can you trust anything a man says when he repeatedly got on TV and lied to all the American People. This country is in for a rude awaking--whats next--Will the federal government tax you because you didn't eat your apple today. They have given way too much power, over our everyday lives, to the federal government. Also this plan does not apply to our members of congress, if it did, I think it would be vastly different.
The GOP gonna eat crow later today, too. Their little gun conspiracy BS will splatter crow all over Washington!
Drool............................
That is imflamatory....IE. Too bad for you.
Well TM he is just telling the truth about Mittens after all. I mean really the only thing Mittens took a stand on was the word MAYBE.
Yes - Conservatives were let down again today... as were you. You are just too foolish to know it. But - I am happy because this will once again energize conservatives to get rid of the lying corrupt weasels who passed this abomination and their Emperor with no clothes... Enjoy your laugh for today - we will see who gets the last laugh though. Intellectually honest people whether they are for or against this law should be very concerned about this ruling because in effect the Supreme Court said today, that it is OK for politicians to boldly lie about a bill to get it passed "This is not a tax" - then reverse course when it goes to court. That is bad for all Americans - left, right and in between.
As for fast and furious - You must ask yourself - again if you are intellectually honest - what are they trying to hide? Why would anyone support this complete lack of transparency? Oh blind ideology - win at any cost. Scary!
Oops gotta run - i have to go terminate the employees I can no longer afford.
Right because you are an important business man. Gee imagine that another go getter posting on a left leaning blog. Yeah your word is good here, BOL.
Boehner has decided not to speak! I guess he doesn't want to embarrass himself by crying publicly!!! LOL
Maybe Boehner is reading the decision before he comments. That would be in stark contrast to the way the vote went down on this law. You still haven't commented on being lied to, I guess the President lying to you is acceptable.
Bush lied about being president. If we can put up with that, we can put up with anything.
I didn't say I was an important businessman! But, thanks for the compliment - but I do have employees. I do pay for their medical insurance and other benefits. I just won't be able to support as many productive people because i now have to pay for a bunch of non-productive people as well. It is still a reasonably free country - although a little less so today - and I can choose to no longer participate as an entrepreneur. I have to weigh my options.
There is cause and effect - something liberals seem to fail to understand. There are consequences for your actions... Did you not notice the recent Census report that said there were 30,000 less businesses last year than in 2010. That means fewer people employed and fewer taxes collected to support your precious entitlement programs.
I noticed you take your cheap little shot "important businessman" - (incorrectly of course) but didn't address the part about being intellectually honest - because you aren't and you can't. You can't fix stupidity or willful ignorance.
Your little gimme, gimme gimme game is going to collapse on your head and those who have taken responsibility for themselves will be prepared to deal with it and you will not.
Enjoy your silly little victory for now...
Yep, they love the Supreme Court when they made GW president! But now they are wrong in their support of health care. Hoo hum.
Bush, Bush Bush - I find it ironic that liberals hate Bush. He was the most liberal Republican to sit in the White House ever. He spent money on entitlement programs like he had a (D) after his name instead of an (R). Remember the prescription drug program - Bush did that - not your precious Obama. That aside, let me remind your feeble little mind... Bush was elected President. Not once but twice. Never in any Florida recount was there ever a situation where Gore won. The Supreme Court upheld his election. so, almost 12 years later - get over it!
Barrack Obama has told more lies than George Bush could ever think of. So don't even go there. That is ridiculous on it's face. Obama is a pathological liar... and you know it and support it. Win at any cost. Pathetic. But, he will surely lose in November. Buh-bye...
Right except I have yet to meet a tea bagging republican who didn't have his hand out if he believed he was entitled to the handout. We know you are a fraud, because only tea bagged republicans brag about being in business then saying crap that proves they are lying just like you did.
Oh you mean the tax you pay as a penalty ONLY if you refuse to take responsibility to get medical coverage if you can afford it? The same one in fact virtually no one will see because employer supplied insurance counts under the mandate meaning because your job gives you coverage as part of your employee package as part of the payment you get for the work you do you won't be paying the tax? That tax? Ok. But nice try though in trying to stir the pot.
Are you saying they're cannibals?
The reality is that the Affordable Care Act was a Republican idea and now has been upheld by a conservative court mostly appointed by Republican presidents. Chief Justice Roberts was a leader today. We need to be mindful that we have 45,000 uninsured Americans die annually. 50 million Americans are uninsured and the Affordable Care Act will help get 32 million uninsured Americans health care coverage. There are technical questions about how Medicaid will be carried out by the states that may need more tweaking later on, but essentially Medicaid expansion was also upheld. Scholars need to analyze the Courts decision to understand all of the ramifications. The individual mandate was upheld as a tax because Congress has the right to tax. Some legal scholars thought that the Commerce clause would the main reason the ACA would be upheld instead Chief Justice Roberts saw the right to uphold the law as a tax penalty. We have essentially passed Richard Nixon's 1974 Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan substituting Nixon's employer mandate with more of an individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act.
We should be thankful that we have a President who cares about human beings more than just corporate quarterly profits for the insurance industry. All industrialized countries have some kind of national health insurance system. We really need to have some type of an individual mandate because without it the whole employer based system would essentially collapse. The other aspect that people need to consider are the national security implications because the federal government has a need for healthy young recruits entering military service. Sure I know that only about 10% of young people ever go into the military but this aspect is still vitally important. Private employers need healthy workers so we can have a productive economy. So both from a national security and a national economic security perspective Chief Justice Roberts did the correct thing today, not for President Obama's legacy, but for the 32 million uninsured Americans who will get coverage. Today is a good day for Democrats. President Obama has been proven correct despite all the bitching by conservatives, the ACA was upheld by a conservative Supreme Court. Responsible Republicans should work to make the Affordable Care Act a better law for the American people and end their vitriol.
That remains to be seen - because the States can still decide not to support the Medicaid portion of this Bill and the Feds cannot penalize them if they do so.... and then those who are uneducated, unemployed, here illegally may not be covered. That is who this bill was intended to help. That is not guaranteed. The new tax on working Americans has been upheld though. Enjoy the victory... for now...
No More and the government can stop payment to the state how cut Medicaid. And good luck with that.
Medical Insurance Company stocks across the board are taking a noise dive following the Supreme Court decision. Stand by for increased costs for premiums and co-pays.
yep...and watch companies by the HUNDREDS start dropping health care plans as options for employees...and who can blame them??? they'd be derilict in their duties if the DIDN'T drop them...
The liberals are pumped about the "free lunch" they think they got today. But we know the expression goes...
Same old tired propaganda......give me a break!
Thankful - someone has to pay for it....healthcare (as much as leftists like you would like it to be) is not free.
Tax the rich, right? Haha.
lc,
there isn't a free lunch. all americans including repubs will get to have benefit of health care reform, some things that they are already enjoying.
my health care costs have gone up since reform, way up. OVER 100%.
unlike you, i don't mind paying more FOR BENEFIT OF ALL AMERICANS, including children, the mentally ill, the disabled, those who can't care for themselves.
that could be any one of us.
by the way, people in mass. LOVE ROMNEYCARE.
Go ahead Loose, vote for the Romney, and take away 33 millions of Americans who are Shouting HOO- RAY! Taxes.....another romney lie.
including children, the mentally ill, the disabled, those who can't care for themselves.
and interestingly enough, the designers of this bill would have these kinds of people (mentally ill, disabled, those who can't care for themselves) eliminated, or not covered at all, since they serve no purpose to society, according the Emanuel's "complete lives system" that made its way into the bill...
Yes, Suzette your healthcare costs have risen because of Obamacare (i.e. massive government interference and regulation).
I don't have a problem with people who really need healthcare like children, the mentally and physically disabled, the elderly, etc. having healthcare, but don't we already have programs for them like Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, etc. that the poor and disadvantaged can utilize?
What! My premiums and my co-pays are going to go up now? That never happened before!
Last year, I got a lovely letter from my insurance company telling me my premium was going up 11%.
This year, at the same time, I got a letter saying it was going up 17 %. All without the AHA. Let's have a little sanity, please.
T L C#12.2 ~~The liberals are pumped today because we KNOW YOUR free lunch has come to a screeching halt. Go get a job and buy your own insurance!
thank you, GWB...Roberts was your progressive appointment...thank you, GWB- yet another thing to hold against you...oh well...
this will galvanize the ROmney supporters more than a ruling AGAINST Obamacare...
The good News for Liberals, Progressives, Socialists or whatever is - It appears John Roberts wasn't the Right Wing political lap-dog he was made out to be... unlike Ginsburg, Kagan and Soto-Mayor and Breyer. The bad news is the right will now be even more energized to over-turn this bad law legislatively. It is going to be an interesting fall. Time to go stock up supplies for the impending collapse. The Supreme Court in effect said today it is OK for the President and Congress to lie and mislead us by saying this wasn't a tax until they took it to court. On it's face that is pretty disgusting no matter which end of the political spectrum you embrace.
Right but it is perfect fine for a republican president to lie and mislead the country for 8 years just so his buddies could get more wealth and you got stuck with the bill.
TM, all they've got is the same old propaganda-they can't memorize anything new.
Now you "self proclaimed constitutional lawyers", can take your smack down and stfu!
Greatgran, When Obamacare kicks in in 2014, the insurance companies will not be able to raise prices as they have done. Also, that is why Obama said the refunds are coming soon. People will at least get some of that cost increase back. They all it the Affordable Care Act because with such a large pool, it WILL BE!
In time, even the GOP who hate this now will come to like it. I know this. Switzerland had a big hate fight about 20 years ago over their new health care law, and now they embrace it. People go there for their excellent health care! Even Republicans with sick children who are now covered will not be happy to vote for Romney who will repeal it! Americans are a pragmatic people. They will "get it" given time.
And this goes out to our little tea bagged republicans a little tune then can sing until 2016.............

Congratulations to all my Liberals friends and even to the ones that don't like me so much for the Supreme Court ruling in your favor today. Now let's go have a couple drinks. We're going to need um... Just kidding. Have a a nice day.
Thanks six---a roast to you--I'm sorry a toast.. I will drink one with you latter in the day.--this is a good reason to have a stiff one.
here is the upside...when Romney gets in, we'll convince him to pass a law that EVERYONE has to buy a gun...why not??? its for safety, for protection...it will HELP us all...so now that congress can officially tax EVERYTHING...let's get a gun mandate- and then if you don't want to have one, that's fine...you'll just have to pay a tax...
Mitt Romney and John Boehner are going to look so hateful and strident and against the American people when they start their "Repeal Obamacare" mantra again!
We now know, Mr. Romney and all you GOP house members care nothing for people in this country. We notice Romney and the whole crowd did not have this sense of outrage against Citizens United!
Go ahead, LOOK STUPID, look mean and obstructionist! I love it. Rant away, you pieces of garbage! YOU LOSE! THE PEOPLE WON!
Mitt Romney and John Boehner are going to look so hateful and strident and against the American people when they start their "Repeal Obamacare" mantra again!
the "PEOPLE" are AGAINST Obama care...the "PEOPLE" do not like Obamacare...by a measure of 2-1...remember- the "People" means ALL people, not just the progressives in this country...
PIeces of garbage??? that's classy...
I'll be waiting India.
Thanks, TM! And he did come out lying and spinning as usual. He's an empty suit. Nothing there.
Mittens isn't getting in catt only the dumbest of the dumb vote for a person who says vote for me and then I'll let you know what I'm going to do. I mean really catt it is almost July and mittens has yet to say what he is going to do to make the economy better other then more tax cuts to the wealthy and we already know tax cuts to the wealthy is going to do nothing but create more deficits. Remember catt it has been you that whine about the deficit crisis or do deficits only matter when democrats are in office.
Whomit, My favourite rant was T-Party Congressman, RAND (RANT) Paul, who said, "Just because the Supreme Court says something is law does not make it law!"
Where the hell did he go to school!!! LOL
Hey, Rand, THEY ARE the final law! What an idiot!

Hey, Rand, THEY ARE the final law!
Gee, this was worth saying twice, I guess, though I only said it once! LOL
Kind of funny that the right keeps saying how much they hate the idea of "pass it to see what's in it," but they don't have a problem with "vote Romney in to find out what he's for."
The real Chris, When they find out he's for millionaires and billionaires like himself, and cares nothing for other people, they will be quite shocked, and those whose sick, uninsurable children who are now covered will not be eager to vote in a man who will snatch that away in favour of lowering taxes on millionaires like himself!
As the mother of three, I don't think so! If my kids were sick and finally covered under Obamacare, I sure as hell would vote for Obama! Any mother would, even a Republican one.
Romney came out of hiding to blast out his hateful lies to the American people. Pity, some will believe him and his lies and they will suffer under Romeny, who claims on the first day of his presidency he will strike down this and just about any thing of value to the American people. He lies to everyone with out a blink of an eye as he takes you down to the path of disaster. Come on, willard tell the truth for once.....just a talking liar....LOL
Hey, willard you forgot to state the facts. You just make up stuff and you don't care that you lie. Lie,lie.
You forget that the people in Mass. love their romney care......so why do you lie. 33 millions of Americans just had their lives changed and you want to take that away from them. WHAT?
He's going to be a busy dictator his first day in office. That's what it would take to do the things he claims he will do. Too bad he will never get to see the inside of the White House.
willard is full of hot air and crap, both come from his mouth.
Talk about LIES--You don't seem to have a problem with the President lying to you.
Larry LOL !!!!
Corrupt LOL !!!
TM, Yeah, the soul of compassion; that's our Willard!
Take food off the table. Let the sick kids die. As long as they don't tax us millionaires one red cent more, that is what matters!!! That's Mitt!
Who in the hell would vote for this monster?
Finally the High Court has made a step toward redeeming itself among the American people for dumping Dubya on us and creating this mess they forked on us in the form of Citizens United. Now the people can see the key elements of the law come into effect so that they can see that though it's now the public option it's still better than having insurance companies dump you for getting sick, dumping rate hikes on you just for the hell of it, or denying you coverage for having a preexisting condition, which often times was arbitrarily defined by these insurance companies. And let the Republicans try to keep on with the repeal talk, they will now have to answer people's questions of why they want to take away their and/or their children's insurance. And for crying out loud this form of the law was a REPUBLICAN for the past 20 years at least. It puts the onus on people to take responsibility for their own healthcare and not cost their neighbors by having their only access to healthcare be going to the emergency room racking up thousands of dollars in costs that they can't afford and therefore gets passed on to everyone else. We all know how Republicans yammer about person responsibility. And enough with the BS that folks will lose their insurance, make it harder for businesses to hire or making arbitrary cuts in Medicare. The business community is seeing record profits, the Medicare "cuts" are actually eliminations of inefficient redundancies in that system, and MORE people are being brought into the system which should bring down the overall costs of service. And Romney's all over the place response is laughable for the above reasons. And hello, the Massachusetts system on which this is modeled is WORKING.
Amen. Thanks.
And I'd love to see the Republicans try to explain why they want to open the donut hole in Medicare prescription coverage after the Affordable Care Act has closed it. The scare tactics they used on our poor seniors will fall flat this time for that reason. Because ah ha seniors are seeing their benefits from the law already because those provisions are now in effect and seniors love having that extra help getting the medications they need.
The people won today on healthcare. Bush allowed health companies to rape us when he was in office. Our company LOWERED the age our son could stay on our plan. He had terminal Crohns disease. They threw him off our plan while he was still in college. He was denied needed health care. He passed away. Too late for our son, not too late for other parents kids. God Bless Obama and the Supreme Court Decision today.
Med: My condolences to you regarding your son, I believe Millions of people will benefit from this Affordable Health Care act and I say, shame on the people who consider $$$ over lives, we all need healthcare sooner or later, I wish my friends could take another look and see how this is beneficial to the nation, without a healthy nation, there will be less productive people, I say God Bless all of us and the decision today was a right move...
What exactly did GWB do that permitted insurance companies to do? A president can not issue a decree so that insurance companies do x. Your claim makes no sense.
The ACA is a legitimate issue for discussion. Have just read the opinion, once, will take more study, but the tax analysis seems sound. It is the optics of the issue. President Obama went out his way to say the mandate was not a tax. But at this point, not relevant. The case has been decided.
Medvedev #24,
I am so sorry to hear that. It may be some comfort to know that it will save my daughter-in-law's life. You have my deepest condolences. Such a tragedy. The worst heartbreak is to lose a child.
Listen to Obama......I sure this will be posted by MSNBC immediately......Now we hear why romney lied. Why romney lied. Why romney lied. just play them next to each other please.......too good.
Insurance companies can not bill you into bankrupts.
Yes. And given the unpopularity of the law for now because people are understandably afraid of change and there have been a lot of lies floating out there, Obama made the point that he didn't do it for political points but because he thought it was the right thing to do. And I for one have a lot more respect for a man who takes a stand because he believes it's right over a fool who stands for nothing because he only presents what he thinks you want to hear.
Jajuan, This decision taken by the SCOTUS has had the added benefit of waking up America to the real facts about "Obamacare"! About time!
You are correct Jajuan. This is the same kind of fear and rhetoric that happened when Social Security was created; America was doomed, it was turned into some kind of socialist/communist country.
Now, even older Tea Baggers don't want anyone fooling around with THEIR Social Security.
Now, now. You're implying TeaBaggers are hypocrites. Who's going to believe that?
I would.
