The Texas Republican Party released its 2012 platform this month, and according to the 22-page document, the Texas Republicans support repealing the minimum wage, eliminating the Department of Education and the Department of Energy.
Below are the highlights from the party's platform.
1. Repeal the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
"We urge that the Voter Rights Act of 1965 codified and updated in 1973 be repealed and not reauthorized."
2. Oppose the "Morning After Pill."
"We oppose sale and use of the dangerous “Morning After Pill.”
3. Make extra clear that Sharia Law won't be enacted.
"We also urge the Texas Legislature and the U.S. Congress to enact legislation prohibiting any judicial jurisdiction from allowing any substitute or parallel system of Law, specifically foreign Law (including Sharia Law), which is not in accordance with the U.S. or Texas Constitutions."
4. Oppose teaching critical thinking skills.
"We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority."
5. Return to the Gold Standard.
"We support the return to the time tested precious metal standard for the U.S. dollar."
6. The Supreme Court can't rule on cases involving the Bill of Rights.
"Further, we urge Congress to withhold Supreme Court jurisdiction in cases involving abortion, religious freedom, and the Bill of Rights."
7. Withdraw from the United Nations.
"We support the withdrawal of the United States from the United Nations and the removal of U.N. headquarters from U.S. soil."
8. They love mothers.
We strongly support women who choose to devote their lives to their families and raising their children. We recognize their sacrifice and deplore the liberal assault on the family.
9. Immunizations aren't required.
"All adult citizens should have the legal right to conscientiously choose which vaccines are administered to themselves or their minor children without penalty for refusing a vaccine."
10. Corporal punishment can be effective.
"We recommend that local school boards and classroom teachers be given more authority to deal with disciplinary problems. Corporal punishment is effective and legal in Texas."
11. Abolish the IRS.
"We recommend repeal of the Sixteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, with the goal of abolishing the I.R.S and replacing it with a national sales tax collected by the States."
12. Protection from Extreme Environmentalists and abolish the Enviromental Protection Agency.
"We strongly oppose all efforts of the extreme environmental groups that stymie legitimate business interests. We strongly oppose those efforts that attempt to use the environmental causes to purposefully disrupt and stop those interests within the oil and gas industry. We strongly support the immediate repeal of the Endangered Species Act....We believe the Environmental Protection Agency should be abolished."
13. Supporting "Traditional Marriage"
"We support the definition of marriage as a God-ordained, legal and moral commitment only between a natural man and a natural woman, which is the foundational unit of a healthy society, and we oppose the assault on marriage by judicial activists."
14. Support "traditional Judeo-Christian" values.
"We support the affirmation of traditional Judeo-Christian family values and oppose the continued assault on those values."
15. Homosexuality is bad.
"We affirm that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans."
16. Evolution is a controversial theory.
"We support objective teaching and equal treatment of all sides of scientific theories. We believe theories such as life origins and environmental change should be taught as challengeable scientific theories subject to change as new data is produced."

This sounds like one of Rick Perry's ideas.
man o man....must be still toooooooo many eligible registered democrats. oh brother let's see here.
yep the south shall rise again was the cry.
here we go with some billionaires got the gold and this plantation is for you........
They forgot to secede from the Union! I left that state when gw was governor, now they have completely lost it. Evangelicalism gone to the dogs. YEE-HAW!
Can Anybody From the WRONG-SIDE Tell Me WHY They Support These GOMERS That ONLY Support The Wealthy and Special Interest GROUPS as Apposed To Supporting The Real American People ?????? And Also Let ME Know - Just HOW They Support Americans ?????
If Texas or any of the surrounding states was to Secede from the Union they would be a 3rd world country. With radical idiologs running their government the first thing they will do is invade the United States to "destroy the liberal reigme" and they will get beaten and humiliated. I think learned from the past. The Confederacy got beaten and humiliated. I think they have too much pride to have to re-live that.
Ha Ha Haaaaha aaaaa == Goodbye -- SECEDE = GO AWAY - You ARE Obviously NOT A Part Of The UNITED STATES --- GO AWAY -THEN - SEE-YA == COMMIES !!!!!! YOU Obviously Have NO IDEA of What A UNION MEANS = So Goodbye Enjoy YOUR Separatism and Communist Ways !!!!!!
We joke about it, but I have many friends and relatives there, and knowing they are democrats, I don't want to see them imprisioned by the idiots.
I am a life long Republican, my first election to vote in was Regan's first term. I look through the Texas Republican Platform and I can not see a single plank I would support as written.

They don't care about you.
Reliant~ None of them have anything anybody should be supporting these days. This is not Grandpa's Republican Party anymore. It's not even Dad's Party! And I have a feeling it's going to be a long time if ever that they get back to normal. If they keep going the way they are, they will be extinct. And as a lifelong Democrat, I can't say that I would be sorry to see that day.
The only people who want Texas to secede more than Texas is the rest of the country.
As a matter of fact, the rest of the country should vote to have Texas secede. Maybe Obama could do it by executive order.
Arizona can go with 'em.
memo to the texas gop: get help!!!!!! put the crack pipe down and get help!!!!
What the H are they using for brains down there? Tumbleweeds?? Air between the ears. Geesh.
Okay number three is completely negated by number two...
Holy Mackarel - the Texas Republicans want to become a church!! Why is half (or more than 1/2) their proposals involve MY or YOUR personal lives????? DUH.
HERE LIES THE UNITED STATES
ONCE A FREE AND HOPEFUL LAND
THEN CAME THE "RELIGIOUS RIGHT"
AND DESTROYED IT WITH THEIR HAND.
Wow, well since they want us to stop teaching children to critically think I hope they are taken care of by doctors and nurses who were not taught to critically think when they become ill.
No critical thinking for the republicans. The easier to brainwash you children my dears.
WHO LET THE CRAZYS OUT? WHO?WHO?
The same ones that voted tricky ricky in.
I can see why they'd want to abolish "critical thinking" - they are afraid people will figure out that they are all nuts, and power-hungry, not to mention, anti-woman, bigoted WASPS
This is unconscionable! It's obvious that federal money is being misspent on education in Texas. What's wrong with these people? I cannot decide which of these proposals I hate most. But for starters, no immunizations...well, it won't be long before contagious disease runs rampant through the Texas schools. But maybe that's why they want to abolish public education (home schooling by these folks. Another generation of brains gone to waste). Judeo-Christian values...it hasn't been that long since Jews weren't welcome in Texas. So strange how they now include the Jewish religion in their platform. Repeal the Voting Rights Act??? Just look at the republican conferences and assemblies. No diversity except a few plants and tokens. That is what they want to take America back to. back to the time when there were only a few people of color. None in any positions of authority. Just doing what they're told. That's the America they miss and wish to reinvent.
Sounds like we may have to go to war with Texas.
If I a divorced mother who works as a teacher who teaches our children to be able to critically think, evolution, to respect others beliefs such as religious, and gender preference, to respect our environment, that you keep your hands and feet to yourself, to give to others what you owe them, found she was raped or god forbid had sex with one of these idiots, I would RUN not walk to the nearest drug store for that morning after pill and if I could not get it you better bet I would use capital punishment on anyone who would keep me from it!!!
KOCH Brothers are paying for all this.
Regression theory in national politics. Lets see if the people will stand for this.
Wow! I haven't seen one republican comment!
They can't defend this stupidity.
This shows complete insanity, and bigotry personified.
Tea Party? more like a white supremest Nazi hate group! Way to look ignorant TX!
leave it to the repukes to pull this stunt.
Have lived in Texas raising my son as a single mother, I take offense. What was a mother suppose to do, but work to keep the child, fed, dressed and sheltered. But I guess as a widow I didn't deserve it. I should have just stayed home and starved.
And the one on corporal punishment. Dead men don't have a chance to defend their innocents. ROTFFL
tracey you won't see any because they have nothing substantial to say here that we wpuold believe.
The state of Texas should become a country onto itself since it is not interested in rights for all of its citizens. Why would anyone want to live in such a state? Let it be removed from the United States of America. We should not tolerance a narrow minded legislature which wants to go back in time maybe to a time before the Civil War. These conservatives without consciences cannot handle the provisions in the US Constitution and feel that they have the authority to change those laws that made this country more democratic. I am sure glad that I do not live in such a backward state.
Sounds like the Christian version of sharia law. By the way, when did science become the enemy?
Are they serious? This is not some kind of "Political Fools Day" joke, correct?
Hypothetically writing,... If this is the true sentiment, why the current wasting of American "blood" in other nations and the historical battles for "rights" have been for naught! Additionally, President Abraham Lincoln and other Presidents like John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ), enacted presidential authority only to have it destroyed how many decades and/or centuries later? Really!
Nope it is for real, wake up from your American Dream.....they want it for themselves, not for you.
I live in Texas and I'm ashamed being a Texan but proud that I have never voted republican. wishing that everybody will vote for sanity in this state would be a nice change for the better. Incredibly unbelievable that we have a extremist government.
By the way, texas legislature wants to dumb down everybody so that they will abuse, misuse and treat them as dogs.
First off, to a few people confusing corporeal and capital punishment..
Corporeal punishment (which is still a little after my time, but heard stories about it) - Think nuns in a boarding school rapping your hands with a ruler or going to the principals office to get swatted on the rear a few times with a 'board of education'
Capital punishment - ending another persons life as punishment for the offense of vile deeds (rape, murder)
Before I go on, I'd like to say that if there's ANY part of this I could possibly stand for, it 'might' be that. Driving home the part of 'respecting your elders' might do today's young people a little good.
Now on to the fun stuff.. where to start, where to start.
a) Agenda item #1 goes well with #3, don't you think? Sounds to me like they're thinking "if we don't teach you to think for yourself, we can find a way to legally keep you from voting."
b) Why did they bother creating separate items for #'s 13-16? which of course would tie nicely into #5 and specifically how they worded it.. 'abortion, religious freedom, and the bill of rights'. so, wait.. did I just say that? they want to keep the SCOTUS from being able to apply the bill of rights to rulings. Oh wait, that would mean they cant use provisions like 'freedoms of life, liberty, and property' to strike down state based constitutional amendments (see agenda items 13-15) that legally discriminate against AMERICAN CITIZENS for the simple fact that they are gay. Or use the 'freedom of religion' clause from the 1st amendment to define separation of Church and State.
c1 and 2) abolish the EPA and IRS? wait, that would allow the oil companies to pollute the air and water as much as they want in the name of unfettered profits, then keep those all those profits without paying proper taxes on them.
d) withdraw from the UN, and kick UN HQ off US soil? we helped FOUND the organization you DIMWITS. oh wait, I forgot, without the UN, we would be better able to police the world with our armed forces (which would likely end up better known as the 3rd great crusade. the Europeans only made 2 attempts to convert the world to christianity didn't they? i forget)
e) return to the gold standard? isnt that effectively the same as every GOP attempt at a balanced budget amendment that INCREASES the military's budget while killing the social programs that affect millions of low income Americans? 10 grand a pop for toilet bowl seats? sure, we'll take 100 thousand of them, then put them in a warehouse so they wont get used. Why? we paid 10 grand a piece for em, we cant get them dirty by letting soldiers sit on them
But in Texas capital punishment is more than a rap on the hands by a nun or a simple swat on the backside. They have been known to do things in there schools as shown on 20/20 or 60 minutes or some show like those to do things as crazy as to have a solitary box they can throw a child into and leave as long as they like (think about your young 5 year olds and this being a punishment for them, and their swats are anything but simple. They are hits made to hurt. and more than a little. Would you be allowed to "swat " an employee who you did not like their behavior. I think I would hear the words Law Suit if that would happen. Same for a child. No person other than a parent should swat a child. And having a parent do it is even questionable. Not that at times kids don't need to have their "feelings hurt." A non parent should not be allowed to hurt a child.
Soon to follow in Texas, Witch trials, bloodletting for better health, tar and feathering, public hangings, exorcisms, leeches to cure all ills.Men in suits, ties and hats at all outdoor events.Women in dresses, heels and pearls 24/7 , smoking is allowed everywhere, oil spills are not a big deal, just throw some kitty litter on it.
my favorite is #4...it makes perfect sense really - an electorate without critical thinking skills would be dumb enough to look at the other 15 platform stances and think...hmm, these are really good ideas!
republican party has always feared an educated electorate...that's why they make "intellectual" a dirty word...
