The image that appeared on Oreo's Facebook fan page
Pride Month—a time to celebrate diversity and call for equal rights regardless of sexuality. Along with the Pride parades and celebrations all over the country, several corporations use the occasion to pledge their support to the LGBT community—be it through promotional offers, organizing employee events and volunteer opportunities or taking out advertisements.
Yesterday, the official Facebook fan page for Oreo cookies, a Kraft Foods product, posted a photo of an Oreo with six delicious looking rainbow layers with the words “Proudly support love!” and the tagline “JUNE 25/ PRIDE”.
The response was mixed, to say the least.
Over the past 23 hours the image has garnered over 180,000 “likes” and many people are promising to buy extra Oreos to say thanks for the declaration of support.
But it has also prompted angry customers to say they’re boycotting Oreos and Kraft Foods products altogether. One comment reads: “Goodbye Kraft Foods.. I’d vomit now if I ate any of your products.” Another: “Very disappointing, Kraft. Hope this PC campaign causes tremendous loss for the stockholders”.
Overall, the support trumps the negativity.
We’ve seen reactions like this before-- remember when Ed covered One Million Mom’s rally to boycott JC Penney after they hired Ellen DeGeneres as a spokeswoman? A Pro-Ellen Facebook group quickly surpassed the amount of members of the “Million Moms”.
For a refresher:
What do YOU think of the Oreo ad?

I think that we are now going to be able to recognize bigots by putting a box of Oreo cookies on the table and see who avoids them.
How could you Oreo/Kraft Foods this announcement today has let down a lot of people including me I mean honestly what is "Made with creme colors that do not exist"......Oreo you let me down. Here I thought I new myriad of colors and flavors.....but no.....how could you?
Now on the JCPenny and One Million
Moms"Morons" I'm a traditional shopper. You see I decide what stores I'm going to shop at based on what they sell. How long is the attack gays and non-evangelicals everywhere, always "moral majority" going to pretend that they're actual a majority? Perhaps they don't have access to the definition of majority...well it means most people so based on the fact JCPenny's sales haven't collapsed uhhh something tells me you're not a majority
One Million Morons only 40k friends says it all
I say Bravo to Nabisco/Oreo and JCPenny.
I love the Oreo ad...and would totally eat that cookie.
Some ppl. are bogots to the CORE !!!!!
Hooray for Nabisco
Ellen has more class in her little finger than that entire group of hateful women have in their entire beings.
Like I needed another reason to buy me some Double Stufs!! Super market, here I come! Right on, Nabisco and Kraft Foods!
Honestly I'm so sick of corporate involvement in politics. All I want from my cookie maker is a devotion to better safer ecological packaging and practices and leave political issues to real individuals. I don't want them supporting anything; I don't want them against anything. All they do is distract the eye with things like cute cookie creme colors but it's just a ruse to conceal voracious appetites of mega monopolies that continue to amass such power and wealth that they bend politics to their will. Down with corporate politics and personhood!
When are they going to promote White Heterosexual Male Pride Month?
Every month is white heterosexual pride month...which you should be a little careful in phrasing because it does sound a bit white nationalist(neo-nazi)..........right after these people lose the power in society and become an oppressed minority
I mean don't you get that
Not to be a jerk( I really mean that!), but we can start celebrating "white heterosexual male pride month" as soon as EVERY day isn't celebrated for you. I would kill to be a Heterosexual White Male! As a single, mixed race single mother, I can't help but notice that "you" tend to always make more money, get more opprotunities, have more lines of credit extended to you, and are often given the best promotions. And I have a degree, live in good neighborhood, and have worked for the same company for almost nine years.... just sayin'!
