Yes. For all these years Repubs kept their ears closed on immigration. Children who were brought here for no fault of their own shouldn't be deported. Only adults should be deported, even though they should get some kind of consideration because Govt failed to catch them and deport them on time. Definitely no immigrants will vote for repubs.

The conservatives in the Supreme Court have apparently decided to adhere to Nazi policy. Asking Jews to show their papers was one of the Nazi's known discriminatory practices.
Now the conservatives in the Supreme Court say that is fine to do with Latinos. Is the conservative party's next step to start loading them on trains for locations unknown?
We have to keep President Obama in the White House to put a new Justice in the Supreme Court.... or our Constitutional rights as citizens will be lost with this group of conservative idiots in the SCOTUS.

Any foreign citizen can enter the US for a period of 90 days. Longer with a note from a physician, university acceptance, or citizen spouse. Been like that for over a decade now.
It is legal for immigrants to apply for work while in the US.
Employers are required to document all foreign workers using form I-129 after no US citizens apply after adverting a job for 30 days (click here).
Immigrants become undocumented when employers refuse to pay the fee.
Employers can't hire an immigrant unless they can't find a US citizen for the same job.

Hi everyone. For the past 3 weeks we have had our grandchildren with us, so I have not been keeping up with the political scene. Today I was catching up on MSNBC.COM and was sickened by what I heard and saw. I voted yes on tonight's question, but I am very afraid that uninformed Americans will buy into this new America, where corporations, not American voters, will rule our country and end Democracy as we know it. We are losing to corrupt political intervention. We are headed to being governed by large corporations and billionaires in our country AND Foreign countries.

Problem here appears to be that we have a Supreme Court loaded with judges (and I use the term very loosely) that have no idea what is in the Constitution so they are making up their own to fit the demands of their handlers e.g. Koch Bros.

I would suggest everyone excepts legal immigration. The policy in question is what to do when someone is here illegally, or their visa expires, etc.

I'm tired of the Democrats always letting these corrupt @!$%#s off and not bringing charges and impeaching these conservatives and Repugs. Because they certainly look for any excuse to bring charges against Democrats... and when they can't find real crimes... they make them up, ie. impeachment of Clinton, contempt charges against AG Holder.
As soon as Democrats got the House back during the Bush administration, Nancy Pelosi should have started investigations into the lies the Bush & Cheney told Congress to start Iraq War. The Supreme court justices also should have been investigated for by-passing the electoral process and installing GW Moron into office in 2000.
Now of course, those same justices need to be investigated for their biased opinions in favor of corporations.... and most likely a biased opinion to come regarding ACA. There has been ample proof of several of them accepting bribes in the form of participating in retreats and conferences hosted by demons incarnate like the Koch brothers.

I agree that both are outrageous, except now I've heard a couple of others talking about this decision that gives it a slightly different perspective. According to Lawrence O'Donnell and another person talking about it on Viewpoint on Current, they say that the worst parts of the Arizona bill were struck down.
According to them, what remains is not that different from what law enforcement was able to do before, and that people cannot be stopped without cause and simply for the purpose of checking legal status. So maybe it's not as bad as Ed's comments seem to say.
However, the striking down of the Montana state law to prevent corruption in their elections by regulating corporate spending in their electoral process is a really bad decision. Apparently these conservatives of the SCOTUS haven't been paying attention to the corruption going on with corporate interests buying elections. They also weren't disturbed by the damage Bush did to the country, after they installed him in office. They apparently aren't capable of learning from the mistakes they've made or simply refuse to recognize those mistakes.

Scully, what amazes me the most is that many of the average American voters did not learn the lesson of supporting politicians who are stripping away their rights and their voices. Are Americans so disconnected that they don't watch what's happening to our democracy? President nominates for Supreme Court Justice position, he should be given the right to remove a Justice as well. Then these Justices will perform their duties and not play politics.
Sen- I've thought the same for many years, like the decades of the 60s through 80's. There is a process- impeachment. Charges filed by HOR and trial in Senate- not meant to be used because a person disagrees with a ruling.
And- am I to understand that the Democrats Immigration policy is to be against whatever the GOP is for? As I read, that's all I'm coming up with. Democrats surely have to have some sort of reform in mind- or at least status quo as a strategy. Whatever it is, they need to discuss it. Probably won't win an election by just pointing to the other side.

No- it would be about the dumbest thing anyone could imagine if the President could remove a justice because he disagreed with a ruling. Heck, each election, newly elected Presidents would remove those opposed and appoint those in favor- rulings left and right would be overturned willy-nilly. I can't imagine anything more damaging.
Congress has the ability to impeach based upon impeachable offenses, such as bribery, etc.
In the immediate case, rulings went both ways. The winning vote in each case had at least 5 votes. Are you advocating a goofiness such as removal of 5 justices?

Once again, I agree with your sentiment however... as we've seen with those of the wacky right currently occupying the Congress and Senate... they don't need real reasons to bring impeachment charges or contempt of Congress charges. Simply being a member of the opposing party and what they consider "socialist", "communist" or even merely "liberal" is reason enough.
It's true the Presidents appoint Supreme Court Justices, but they first must get through the Senate approval process which often becomes a witch hunt in itself. If Presidents were allowed to remove SC Justices... as soon as a Repug President got in... all of the more liberal minded Justices would be dismissed.
There is a process by which a Supreme Court Justice can be impeached if they are proven to be acting immorally or in a biased way, and it begins with the Speaker of the House bringing those impeachment charges... just as it's done to impeach a President. I don't know how many times this has happened, but I do know that a former Democratic Justice was threatened with impeachment at some point in the past and resigned before those charges could be brought.
And from what I have heard of that case, the accusations against that Justice were a lot less severe than what some of the allegations could be against a couple of the current GOP Justices, namely Thomas and Alito. There is quite a bit of evidence of both of them attending expense paid resorts and conferences held by the Koch brothers and seemingly colluding with them... only to then vote in favor of cases like Citizens United, etc.
I know that when Rep Anthony Weiner was in Congress, he was one of the lone voices who was constantly demanding Justice Thomas to recuse himself from the ACA case... due to his wife's activities in organizations against the ACA. Unfortunately, since Rep Weiner's resignation... no one else that I am aware of has taken up the cause of holding these Justices' feet to the fire or insisting on them making fair and unbiased judgements.
Nancy Pelosi needs to be pressed to bring impeachment charges against these 2 when she becomes Speaker again, along with charges against some of these other @!$%# Repugs who have been wasting our tax money bringing useless charges against the AG because they don't like him defending voter rights around the country.

As a person of color who is a Vermont native, I already get searched almost every time I cross the border into Canada. I always make sure I have my driver's license, passport AND birth certificate on me when I travel.

David, I can relate to you being profiled. I am a woman of Italian decent. I have olive colored skin and by summers end my skin is pretty dark. After 9/11 I was always pulled out of line whenever I boarded a plane. Back then I was a frequent flyer. I usually flew alone for business. A few times my husband would come with me. I was pulled out of line when we were leaving our home airport and again when we flew home. I was used to having my bags and myself searched. My husband asked me if this happened often. I told him every time I flew. He was very angry, but I told him that it was okay with me. I knew I had nothing to hide but maybe someone else might. Better safe than sorry. However after a couple of years, it became annoying. I can gladly report that I am no longer pulled from lines in airports. I guess becoming a senior citizen has its benefits.

Immigrants in Los Angeles County contribute $230 billion each year to the
economy, according to a report released Wednesday.
The county's 3.4 million immigrants were also more likely to be self-employed
than native born workers, the report said.
"We're seeing immigrants assume an increasingly critical role in California's
economy," said Manuel Pastor, director of the Center for the Study of Immigrant
Integration at the University of Southern California and co-author of the study.
"Their substantial contributions as workers and consumers help fuel the
state's economy and (are) spread throughout many California regions."
Immigrants in California make up a quarter of the state's 38 million
population, but contribute a third of the labor force. Of these, 45 percent are
U.S. citizens.
Each year, they contribute $600 billion to the state economy, or a third of
the state's Gross Domestic Product.
Immigrants comprise 27 percent of total household income, make up 38 percent
of all residents with doctorate degrees and by 2015 are expected to represent as
much as 35 percent of voters, according to the report.

That does not give them a reason to downgrade any human being. Their solution is to treat a certain race of non-Americans, them like an over population of pestering, animals. Here's a question - who benefits from illegal immigration?
Other than having somewhat lower prices for, say the produce that is picked by the illegals, you and I probably don't benefit.
The illegals benefit - compared to what they can get where they come from even slave wages is better.
I would argue that it is the businesses that hire the illegals at low wages - thus maximizing their profits - that most directly benefit.
What a concept - the immigration laws are designed to benefit CORPORATIONS!
I don't think the corporations WANT to fix illegal immigration!!!!!!
Totally agree Jerry, I've seen immigration rallies here in Texas where the illegals are in the streets waving their Mexican flag and shouting for their rights. If you want rights in this country you need to become a legal citizen and wave the American flag. Act like you want to be a citizen.

But i have seen this in reverse where Americans go abroad and instead of immersing themselves in the culture they want to create little America , they complain and its like why are you here? I wish we could, but we are stuck with the law says their appointment is for life. We need to change that law. When any average employee disrespects his or her employer and does not follow what their employer wants from them, they are FIRED!!! This law promotes corruption and basically free to do what ever they and their super pacts wants them to do. They buy elections, strip people of their basic rights and takes away their voices. Presidents have a term limit, senators have to run to be re-elected after 6 years. When people can't fire those who are deliberately hurting them, the voters should be able to see these Supreme Court Justices fired!!!!!! There is NO JUSTICE in many of our Supreme Court Judges. WE NEED TERM LIMITS ON JUSTICES, OR AT THE VERY LEAST, THEY NEED TO BE REMOVED WHEN THEY DO NOT ADMINISTER JUSTICE THAT IS FAIR TO ALL AMERICANS!!!
