A Michigan lawmaker, barred from speaking in the state House after she used the word "vagina" during a debate on an anti-abortion bill, plans to participate in a performance tonight of the Tony Award-winning play The Vagina Monologues.
Tonight's performance will take place between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the state Capitol steps in Lansing (The Ed Show will have extended coverage at 8pET on MSNBC!).
House Republicans prohibited state Rep. Lisa Brown (D-MI) from speaking on the floor because of the way she ended an impassioned speech on Wednesday against House Bill 5711, which would regulate abortion and provider clinics so stringently that Brown says many will simply close.
"I'm flattered that you're all so interested in my vagina, but 'no' means 'no,' " said Brown, a Democrat from West Bloomfield.
Brown thought using the word "vagina" was what got her into trouble.
"What Brown said was offensive," Rep. Mike Callton told reporters. " It was so offensive, i don't even want to say it in front of women. I would not say that in mixed company."
He meant "vagina," right?
"It has nothing to do with her using the word 'vagina,'" said Ari Adler, spokesman for House Speaker Jase Bolger. "It was judgement at the time that when she finished her statement by referencing her vagina, and then saying 'no means no,' that was drawing a rape reference and he felt that crossed the line."
Then, Adler said Brown was punished because she "threw a temper tantrum on the House floor."
Brown told The Ed Show on Friday (with guest host Michael Eric Dyson) that the Republican leadership did not tell her why she was banned.
House Republicans also barred state Rep. Barb Byrum from speaking after the Democrat from Onondaga proposed a ban on men getting a vasectomy unless the sterilization procedure was necessary to save a man's life.

We saw the same idiocy when a Democrat wore a 'hoodie' as he made racial accusations about the Trayvon case that were later proved wrong. It's ironic how the left wants to keep the federal government out of their womb or vagina, but now welcome tax payer funded birth control pills and abortions, via Obamacare. I've never seen so much hypocrisy and confusion from Liberals in America. These fools act like candidates on American Idol vs. a respectable politician and representative. i am reminded of rush limbaugh and his repeated use of the word "slut" to describe Sandra Fluke. the repubs were so worried that "free speech" would be taken from the leader of the repub party just because he disrespected a liberal by calling her a slut and other "whorish" names over and over again for several days in a row. i mean c'mon, what is wrong with that, right?

Ed didn't call ingraham a "slut", he called her a "media slut". not that either one is acceptable, but there is a difference between what Ed did, and what rush limbaugh did for 3 hours a day for 3 days. he only apologized when he started to lose sponsors. he slandered Sandra Fluke and thought it was funny. he thought it was so funny, and he was having so much fun doing it, that he did it for several days in a row.
also, the difference between Ed and rush, is that ED apologized immendiately to laura and to his viewers, and took himself off the air. when the clowns on fox news say things against our president or others, fox news doesn't care, in fact they encourage it, and i have never seen anyone on fox suspended for the lies they tell and the horrible things they say. MSNBC suspends their employees for saying untoward things.
but they did not have to suspend Ed, as he suspended himself. MSNBC agreed.

we all make mistakes or get carried away and say things we wish we hadn't if we are angry or caught up in the moment. but, as a general rule, we feel bad immediately, we don't carry on for days on end.

Poor vat just can't tell the difference between public radio and private paid performances. Here is a clue vat rush can be heard by anyone with a radio Mahers you have to pay to hear what he says, so no one can accidentally tune in to hear what Mahers says. Young women in college think conservatives like you are stupid, ignorant, and horse's behinds on this issue of women's reproductive health. I mean young women under 30 really hate Republicans and conservatives on this issue. If these women at college could talk to conservatives like you they would poke your eyeballs out with their bare hands they get so angry at Republicans. You will pay dearly for these actions at the polling place in November. When you treat women like garbage they don't just get angry they get even. You Republicans have totally underestimated the backlash that you will face on this issue. This woman is an elected public official who has every right to protest a law that she feels discriminates against women. A woman has a right to have a legal abortion in this country. A woman has a right to choose a family planning and birth control program of her choice. Facts, seem to mean nothing to you. Do you realize that its the 21st century and not 1950? Abortion is a legal right in this country. Its not going to change either despite your endless bitching about it. 99% of Catholic women use birth control at some time in their life and probably its 100% in all likelihood. All Western European countries and Japan pay for family planning and birth control programs for women with public funds or else by government mandated programs. The laws passed by the Michigan house are an outrageous infringement on a women's right to choose and her right to privacy. Conservatives live in the 19th century while the United States has to live in the global economy of the 21st century.
