The Obama campaign has already released an ad connecting Romney's remarks from Friday to the way he ran Massachusetts as governor and how he'd govern as president.
Mitt Romney slammed President Obama on Friday for wanting to hire "more firemen [editor’s note: Mitt, they’ve been called firefighters for decades now], more policemen [editor’s note: Mitt, there you go again. It's police officers! Are you a character from "Mad Men?"], and more teachers," saying "did he (Obama) not get the message of Wisconsin?"
Just yesterday, former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu, a top Romney campaign surrogate, said there’s "wisdom" in his candidate’s comment that the nation doesn’t need any more teachers, police and firefighters.
But during an appearance on Fox News this morning, Romney contradicted his own remarks, saying that the Obama campaign was making "a very strange accusation" when it claimed he didn’t want to hire more teachers.
"Of course, teachers and firemen and policemen are hired at the local level and also by states. The federal government doesn’t pay for teachers, firefighters or policemen. So obviously that’s completely absurd."
Then, Romney proceeded to double-down on his original point about Obama.
“He’s got a new idea, though, and that is to have another stimulus and to have the federal government send money to try and bail out cities and states. It didn’t work the first time. It certainly wouldn’t work the second time."
When our heads stopped spinning from Romney’s latest flip-flop-flip, we noticed that Romney made two critical errors (also known as a gaffes).
First, while the federal government does not specifically hire firefighters, police officers and teachers, their salaries are paid largely through federal aid.
Secondly, Obama's stimulus did work, creating and/or saving 1.4 million to 3.3 million jobs, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.
Indeed, Obama’s stimulus bills contained billions in subsidies for state and local government to keep their employees on the job. But much of that stimulus spending has run out, which is why public sector employment is declining and Obama proposed a new jobs stimulus bill months ago.
That bill, known as the American Jobs Act, which would create 1.9 million, according to Mark Zandi of Moody’s. But Romney's Republican/Tea Party/birther friends who run the House have blocked it.

candidates will say anything to keep the fish biting so to speak. Truth is Romney wouldn't lead, he never has and never will.
He would do exactly what Norquist and Rove tell him to do.
Figures that Obama that NEVER held a job in the private sector would think that more public sector hiring (teachers, police and firemen) would grow the private sector. Now that is hilarious Marxist logic. Liberals love to threaten the funding of teachers, police and firemen because they know people will get "emotional" on these Liberal tactics for the "low information" citizen. Liberals have no clue.
So, tell us how teachers, police and firemen create products and services that grow the economy and create more jobs. This oughta be good! :-) What did Obama say? "The Private Sector is doing just fine." Another hilarious perspective that demonstrates that Obama lives in a parallel universe devoid of reality for the poor and middle class. Expanding public sector does not help our economy.
I will give Obama credit for one thing. When he said something incredibly stupid, even if it was heartfelt and his true feelings, once he advisors slapped him silly, he did recant with a "mybad". Normally, Biden is the stupid on, biut with the "Private sector is doing well" comment, you'd betterbelieve the handlers won't be trotting him out without a teleprompter anytime soon.
Rusty, just how bad is the private sector doing. I always thought the private sector was business. The last time I heard they had a net worth of around two trillion dollars but there has been nearly 800,000 jobs created in the private sector this year. That's about 50,000 more than was lost in Bush's last MONTH in office Go figure
Johnny, from your tone, I am assuming that you disagree with Obama's revised position on this point. As well, I would assume you disagree wih his jobs bill because it is pointed to the private sector.
Getting the sense that MSNBC's blog staff writers have "had it up to here" with Romney and "his surrogates" (I hate that term). Recent articles are moving from here the real of "here are the facts" to "OMFG, they didn't just say that."
I really don't think Mr. Romney knows what he says from day to the next. He just spouts whatever comes into his head with no thought whatsoever.
Romney just continues to show what kind of country he wants for us. It is one in which the wealthy gets wealthier and we are left to feign for ourselves. In other words, one that fosters the survival of the fittest mentally. He is totally misreading the results of the Wisconsin Recall last week. I guess he does not know or ignores the fact that the Senate is now controlled by the Democrats because the people wanted checks and balances so that Walker could not push through his extreme measures. Some people can be well educated and still have no common sense.
If money buys Romney this election, we're all in for the worst years this country has ever been through. Romney isn't smart enough to lead this country, so guess what? Karl Rove, the Koch brothers, Rush Limbaugh & all the other tp nitwits will be making the decisions. That's most unsettling to think we have to go back to living in W's world again.
Some are calling what he said as a gaffle. I don't think so. He meant what he said. All right wingers would like nothing better than to get rid of government run employees and go to private ran. That way their rich buddies would be donatinng to them instead of the unions backing the Dems.
If these public services are ever replaced with private sector offerings in the majority, you can be assured that the next election will see the GOP campaigning against regulations in these industries. You'd have campaigns for the elimination of common and state curricula, and moves that make it legal for first res ponders to engage only when it's financially productive to do so.
Cynical for sure, but that's where the evidence seems to point.
With Romney its, "Pay no attention to the man in front of the curtain."
There is no clarifying what he said, it was a slap in the face to people who work hard, who love their country, who serve their country everyday they get up to go to work. Mitt Romney want to fire teachers, policemen, and fire fighters. He said that we need to help the real Americans. I'll tell the policemen who rides through my neighborhood each day, that he is not a real American. Or I'll tell the firemen who puts out wild fires where ever it is call for, that he is not a real American. And the teacher who gives her all to her students, I'll make sure I tell her that she is not a real American, according to Mitt Romney. There is no clarifying what he said, Romney meant exactly what what he said.
Have you noticed this candidates methods. He won't talk to media, he won't release Tax returns of information on his finances, won't discuss his monies in the Cayman Islands his behavior at Bain Capital and as a vulture capitalist and will not under any circumstance discuss his ideas. And he is Arrogant beyond even what we saw from Georgie. Who is this guy? Does he think he's already the President and as CEO of the US he dosen't answer to anyone but the supporters who backed him. This guy is a sociopath. Watch out America
Johnnie, You have nailed him to the wall. How can we trust a man like this who will not be transparent and disclose his financial dealings. They could spend a gazillion dollars on him and still he is out of touch . Have to wonder how many skeletons are in his closet?
Romney is for sure the king of gaffs. He is coming to Newark, Ohio to tell more lies. The man will say anything to get elected .
King of gaffs. Like Obama saying, "The private sector job market is doing just fine." You mean that gaff?
I like the way that the repubs took a snippet of what Obama said and turned it into something that it wasn't. He didn't say anything wrong, the otherside just made it seem that way, and their faithful sheep bought it hook line and sinker.
Maybe we will get lucky and Mittens stumbles mounting the stage the night before election and pulls a Ford only instead of getting bruises he breaks his neck.
So Mitt is this one of those times you'd like to use, "I stand by what I said whatever it was that I said?"
Just imagine this unimaginable scenario: Mittless is elected Prez. Who would he pick for his Cabinet? Any guesses?
I can guarantee he won't select communists, socialists, maoists, Che lovers and other leftist radicals.
No Vatican, he will choose a John Bolton who thinks we should bomb every country and Dick Cheeny who sees a nuke behind every rock in the middle east. You know\, those chicken hawks that served with Bush. What a disappointment you must be.
That's funny Vatican since Obama picked a lot of Repubs for his. So much so, we wondered what the Hell he was doing with all those Repubs around him. It was like letting the foxes in the henhouse.
Mitt is a liar and the media need to call him what he is.
The biggest smack in the face was that Romney actually categorized public workers as not people during that excerpt and I have not heard word one about that......I thought that was the biggest gaffe.
They are leaches, parasites they survive only when they have some one else to live off of. That is why they are having such a problem. Too many people are unemployed (Thanks Obama), and the blood line (Tax Stream) that supports the leaches has been severed. Obama has given them a few transfusions (Transferring Wealth from the Tax Payer to the Public Sector Unions) but it is not enough to maintain their appetite. But now that Obama says the Private Sector is doing just fine I am sure the leaches will be fed.
To the best of my knowledge the Federal Government doesn't employee public school teachers, and with exception to Federal Agencies it doesn't employ Police or Firemen. Perhaps the States could afford to retain their teachers if the Federal Government sent back the 47 Billion it spends on the US Department of Education, after all the US Department of Education doesn't educate any one.
Everybody knows about Mitt's past and how he came by his money. When are reporters going to start asking him to explain a few things? Now would be a good time.

But he forgets Wisconsin is just one state there are 49 others and many of them do not want to go the way of Wisconsin. Look at Ohio Let our stupid gov. go to far and we take him down. We do not believe in this extreme kind of gov. It will come to an end hopefully sooner than later.
