Could you imagine all fire fighters, Police Officers, street cleaners, DMV workers, court workers, city clerk workers, all teachers walking off the job a week before the elections? Then maybe the Rethuglicans will wake up and smell the roses.
It's like Mitt Romney and the Republicans see *public* sector as just that; a sector, not individual people or that those are JOBS and thus people the GOP are driving to unemployment! People are a commodity anymore.
The GOP are an enigma wrapped in dysfunction and the scary thing is that half of America is not thinking things through, or it wouldn't even be a choice, given what the GOP are swallowing as their candidate.

The whole idea of "more is better" is one of America's biggest problem. People say we need more teachers, more police officiers and firefighters. What we need is more PERSONALLY RESPONSIBILITY, more QUALIFIED teachers and harder working individuals. On another note, if public school teachers are such great servants to society, then why do they average making $10,000 more per year compared to private school teachers? That's ridiculous.
XXX000: I dont know what you mean but I believe Romney knows the truth. Civil Servants are not the problem. He wants the base to believe it because the GOP wants to divide the population, the people against public workers, teacher, firemen and so on. But what they want to eradicate is the unions. If they outlaw the unions we will have to accept whatever companies pay in wages and benefits. So, far through out sourcing they have managed to lower salaries. In the last twenty years companies have perpetuated the eliminations of the middle class. In past years the middle class was at least 40% of the population. Now, they are still in the 40% but they share maybe only 5% of the wealth of the country. The working poor and the poor that make up at least 45% of the population competes for the remaining 2%. Why? Because the top 15% upper class which includes the top 1 to 5% controls 93% of the wealth.
The GOP leadership knows exactly what they are doing. Now, with the social media, and due to the majority being very well educated they know they cannot hide their objectives.
And to insure their success I think they are using virtual people. They only exist in the web cloud but they dont eat or have wages. But they sure vote as absentees.
Got that one right! The GOP and Koch have been planning this for quite a while and circumstances just fell right into place when they were able to knock those 12,000 voters off the list in Florida and put Bush in the White House.
Issa Is just an accuser but have no evidence. If Obama's administration was corrupt they would be really winning. They would be in the 75% approval. The people this administration wants to cover does not have the money to bribe or to lobby.
I think that guy is just a fool, trying to used his foolishness with people who are too smart for him. I pity the GOP base. They are trained not to research or study. If I was the president I would dare them to prove it and I would sue them. Corruption is a big charge and a criminal one. We go to other countries to fight against corruption.
The GOP base believes and takes anything the GOP dishes out because the majority are racist who do not want to have a black man in the White House. I hope those who voted in 2008 come out and vote again. The racist will be voting in 2012.

The GOP has convinced their minions that an economy runs well without consumers. Public servant services are needed in our society and they consume and pay taxes....they contribute to the economy. That's exactly how Reagan, Bush41 and Bush Jr. jump started their economies that were in tough recession, they didn't "starve the beast". They hired public workers. IOKIYAR

I agree completely with the corruption and greed of the GOP, and their candidate Mutt Robme. Not only are they preventing any economic growth by denying additional stimulus and cutting funds for public jobs at the state level... in their cynical effort to regain power of the government.
But I think there is another reason for them wanting to shrink public workers, ie teachers, police and firefighters. I believe it is the GOP plan to privatize all jobs that have been public jobs.... because in the mind of the GOP NOTHING IS WORTHWHILE UNLESS IT IS DONE FOR A PROFIT.
When they do take control of government again... (Heaven forbid!), I fear they will try to do away with all public jobs and privatize the entire government at the Federal, State and local levels. No more free public education, nor police and fire protection. Only those who can afford to pay will have those privileges.
The Repulican/TEA Party keeps insisting on the destruction of public sector jobs, in preference for private sector jobs... as if there was absolutely no connection between the two...
Public Sector jobs are still JOBS! They teach your children. They keep you safe, They pick up your garbage. They run your prisons. They process your papers. They tally your taxes. They fight your wars. You couldn't continue to exist without them.
There's something else they do. They put food on their families' tables. They buy clothes for their children. They pay their rent or mortgage. They buy gas for their cars so they can get to work.
They buy cars, trucks and bikes. They buy small appliances to make life easier. They take their kids to ball games, concerts, amusement parks. They buy TVs, movies, CDs, books, magazines. They buy refrigerators, washers, dryers.
They spend money, the same money they get from their public sector jobs. Money that increases demand for goods from the PRIVATE sector.
When they get unemployed, they go on unemployment insurance, just like everyone else. Which adds to those unemployed numbers you keep arguing about...
Without public sector jobs, there would be a lot lower demand for private sector goods and services. Lower demand means fewer jobs, period! The private sector doesn't care whether the money they get is from the public or private sector. Just as long as they GET it!

That would be due to unions and collective bargaining, which gives them the power to bargain for a decent wage and work conditions. Whereas employees of private schools generally don't have the opportunites or advantages that unions would afford them.
By the way, if you work in decent and safe conditions for a decent wage, with occasional raised in pay, with days off, break time and lunch breaks, vacation time, health benefits, worker's compensation for injuries, unemployment if laid off, and many more benefits.
THANK THE UNIONS IN THIS COUNTRY FOR GIVING YOU ALL OF THOSE THINGS. That is where all of those things came from.

Well.... some public servants serve the public, in particular... the public servants that the GOP want to do away with.... Teachers, Police and Firefighters.
The same is not necessarily true of the Public servants who we call politicians, especially many serving in the Congress currently. In most cases, they are serving themselves and lining their pockets with bribes from lobbiests.

We do not need more teachers, we need the PARENTS to educate their children and better teachers. The best education a child receives in his or her early years is at home. Children look up to their parents more than anyone else and guess what? It's FREE and doesn't involve middle class people paying more to educate your own child.

Not at all. We need public, private and charter schools. My point, is that parents need to take a lot more responsibility for educating their children. If a parent cannot take pride in helping their child learn, then we are in trouble. More teachers will not better prepare our children for life. Better teachers will help. Think of it this way; eating more food doesn't help your body, but eating body food does. Same concept.

It's funny that people have this notion that public workers make less compared to private sector workers. Teachers make more in the public sector compared to private sector. Police officers and firefighters along with other public workers end up with huge pensions. Our own govenors and senators make way more than many of us will ever make...are these public "servants"? I didn't know servants were treated so well.
Care to come out into the real world. Congress gets huge pensions at our expense. Congress get healthcare for life at our expense. My wife worked the public sector and can tell you first hand how it they that usually the shaft. And I know you'll find it hard to believe, but they pay 50% into their pension fund, and after all the give aways, paid 60% for their medical insurance and had a pay freeze for 6 years. Management kept getting their raises.

I think Robme is a self-centered Vulture Capitalist who doesn't have a clue what the lives of average people are like. He also has the wrong idea of how the economy works and doesn't have any working plan to move the economy forward for the country. He is simply holding onto the old Repug philosophies of lowering taxes for the rich, cutting safety net programs for everyone else and eliminating all regulations. It will be a disaster if he is able to buy this election, which I think is his plan... just like he bought the GOP nomination.
But those traits are primarily due to his privileged background and his pretending to be a severely conservative Repug. They don't necessarily have to do with his religion. He has adopted to the same backward ideas at the TEApugs in order to appeal to this idiotic minority. He doesn't have the courage to stand up to these nitwits, as his father stood up to the Goldwater crowd in his day.
I can even agree that Robme is probably motivated to achieve the White House because it was something his own father didn't succeed in doing. In fact have the religions or churches of any of the past Presidents gained something when their member was in office? I don't recall any thing like that with any of the other past Presidents. In fact in the majority of cases, I haven't even been aware of what religion they were or church they belonged to. It wasn't an issue and wasn't supposed to be an issue... as there is a separation between church and state.

Yeah... the LDS church is one of the fastest growing religions... but then they do a lot of proselyting all over the world. They have the largest missionary force than any other church I think. No wonder other religions can't keep up.
Young men and some women grow up in the church literally looking forward to when they will go on their mission. Almost every young man serves a mission without question and many young women do also nowadays. It's very organized and quite amazing really.
An interesting question, I think he believes that his base think's so, therefore without fail echos the same. The teabaggers are looking for a scapegoat, they have tried immigrants, gays, women, the poor, none seem to work so now it's civil servants.

I have a lot of friends who came from nothing and broken homes and went to private schools. It CAN and DOES happen. The evil rich people you speak of give their money to private schools that give scholarships to kids who want a better life and to work for it. If these terrible rich people didn't make money then who would pay the majority of the taxes for you to send your kids to public schools, pave roads, build government housing for those who have nothing?

I've never been rich and I've always paid school and property taxes. Good schools and the other infrastructure my tax money supports makes the nation stronger and better for everyone. Even to the present day there are some places in which the police and firefighters can be bought. This stems from the fact that at one time fire departments were volunteer, but if you wanted to have their protection to put out a fire you had to pay them a kind of protection money although it was called a "voluntary donation". The police were always paid, but usually too little thus they also got protection money in the same way, because they need the money just to survive, and thus don't always uphold the law, especially in the case of the wealthy.
That the situation today is that the police are on a good payroll for the most part, but Romney wants to reduce the pay and pension plans for the police and firefighters, so that we can go back to "the old days" of corruption all over the place and use them to break up unions and demonstrations, etc. that the Republicans don't want. I know some of you readers may think I am out there or have seen too many Hollywood movies, But I am from New York and actually observed some of what I have written first hand(40 years ago). I also belonged to a union.
ROBERT - I don't doubt that one bit and i'm here on the west coast.It seems to be doing that from what i've seen already.Eventually it will hit everyone nationwide and we would be going back to CRIME BOSSES like we had in the 1920's.
There needs to be a real conversation about this. Unions gave all workers rights to a safe work enviorment , good wage and some type of health insurance. the repulicans so badly want to destroy this and it will take generations to understand what our grandparents and great grand parents fought for. I too worked for a union and I also worked for a great company that never wanted a union and they went above and beyond what the union could offer. So the point is because to the unions it made a better place to work in a non union shop. When the union busting started our raises stopped benifits were taken away all the rewards went to the upper level and the workers were down graded in pay and benifits.

Which makes you smarter than the average Tea Partier my young friend. They don't even have a basic understanding of how the government operates per the Constitution despite their trying to hide behind it. Case in point Sarah Palin when she said couldn't wait to get in there as Vice President and make some policy. Everyone knows Vice Presidents don't make policy directly. They have a nonvoting role in presiding over the Senate and only have a vote in that rare case there's a tie and they need to break it. Only then does the Constitution allow them to create policy.

Ok who said anything about the only way to make policy was voting hence my statement Vice Presidents do not directly create policy. And that would be policy in the form of laws passed and enacted. Sure they may advise the President before he makes proposals on a course of action or he takes execute action (put forward an executive order for the clueless). The final decision one way or the other is still the President's alone when it comes to the executive branch. But a Vice President's main function constitutionally speaking is to be ready to take on the duties of President, should that President find himself unable to serve due to serious injury or illness, his death, conviction in an impeachment hearing, or his life circumstances bringing him to the extraordinary decision to resign. Nice try making a challenge.
