Wisconsin voters are reporting receiving robocalls that claim voters who signed recall petitions or voted to recall Governor Scott Walker are not required to vote again tomorrow, June 5th. This is incorrect information.
Regardless of whether you signed petitions or voted previously, you still need to vote tomorrow in the June 5th recall election.

There is due process for letting employees go that do not perform and you well know it. Nah they were corrupted when they watched Pat Robertson heal people by having them touch their TV's. They just don't want education because it makes it harder for them to force their kids to put their faith in fairy tales. Education causes kids to question what others tell them and kids no longer look at parents as smart people when they realize their parents don't have the education the kids have, so the kids see them as the fools they are.

This is what it's supposed to be about, but I went to public school from K-12 and it teaches kids nothing of the kind.
There are plenty of private schools that are accredited. A privatized system would regulate itself.
The school system from K-12 is a failure and does nothing to provide to the general welfare of the people. We all pay exorbitant property taxes to pay for kids to go to public schools only to come out the other end as morons who are dead last in reading, math, and sciences.
Obama's initiative for math and sciences is not going to make one bit of difference for one simple reason.
There is no merit based system to keep the good teachers and get rid of the idiots. Instead we have a union that removes any incentives for the good ones to go above and beyond while simultaneously protecting losers. After two years, a teacher is tenured and can not be fired unless they molest a kid or assault someone. It doesn't matter if they're incompetent or not. If and when layoffs occur, it's not based on keeping the best, it's based on seniority. That means a good teacher will get laid off ahead of one who has been hiding in the system and doing just enough to not get fired (thanks to the union.)
Elizabeth since you are an educator I know you have run across a whole bunch of teachers who don't give a rats ass about the kids and are there just to collect a paycheck. They do just enough to not get fired and nothing more.
In the private sector those people are called losers and they get fired. In public education they do not because the union protects them.

Let me be clear. If you're an outstanding teacher I believe you should be paid a hell of a lot more than someone who sucks at it. The problem is that the union is not set up to reward your awesomeness in any way.
Furthermore, we need more good teachers and taxes are already out of sight. The only way to keep taxes down and attract the best and brightest to teach our kids (with money) is to privatize because that's where all the money is. Everyone (both parents and teachers) want smaller class sizes too, which means even more good teachers are needed. I'd like to see the good ones really get paid what they're worth. Being a good teacher is a hard job. If you're good at it you should be able to compete in a free market and demand the highest salary.
Raising taxes to pay for this is not an option.
Also, it's important to note that my parents are retired empty nesters and are still required to pay almost 7k/yr in property taxes, over half of which goes to public education. Privatization of the system would cut their taxes in half.

Only a fair weight of test scores can measure a 'good' teacher! The SAI - school ability index (equal to IQ) of students has to be measured against ACHEIVEMENT of the student in a given school year.

There are too many variables that affect and effect teaching. Student Ability (IQ), resources (books,computers) class size, competent fair administrators, support of parents towards homework, local funding through the tax base, state support and federal support, poverty level of community...................but, I feel strongly that a true measure is testing .By testing at the beginning of the year with STAR reports in math/reading and end of the year by the same method. The DIBELS testing program that I fully support has fallen by the wayside because of monies.
Also, students are subjected to family issues regularly. We have more homeless than ever before. Students are hungry. We have programs to send home food on Fridays so they will not go hungry............this economy has hurt them greatly and all of the talk about cutting safety nets is egregious!
The public school is often the only place of normalcy and safety to many, many students. I am thankful to an educator no matter the unjust attacks.

These are tough issues to be sure and I will be thinking about this from a more informed perspective thanks to you. I'm sure at some point we will revisit this again. I guess if this were a simple fix it would be done by now.
DIBELS sounds familiar. I was in public school from the mid 70's thru mid 80's and I do recall taking those at some point.
For what it's worth, it's always been my belief that there really is no substitute for good parenting. That's easy for me to say because I am not a parent, but growing up my sister and I would always get in trouble if we didn't tend to our studies first before anything else.

(CNSNews.com) – Public school teachers in Wisconsin earned a combined $75,587 in total average compensation – wages and benefits – in 2010, according to figures from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
The average compensation of Wisconsin public school teachers is up 9 percent from $69,321 in 1998, the earliest figures available from the DPI, adjusted for inflation.
Also, teacher compensation has steadily increased since that year, according to DPI figures, which are collected from each of the state’s 427 school districts.

I pay into my pension plan and pay insurance as well each month.
THE point is this "The pension/insurance offered is part of the pay package for a college graduate" It is part of the contract in order to obtain qualified teachers.
It is illegal to breach contracts in the business world. Should be for states as well!
The return for teachers on the amount spent in college is nowhere near the return of investment for lawyers/doctors/accountants.
