Why is this happening?

In the 2010 election, Republicans swept Wisconsin state government, assuming the governorship and both houses of the legislature. Republicans in the legislature, in conjunction with Walker, soon put forward an austerity budget that ended collective bargaining for public employees.

Democrats fled the state to prevent the state Senate from having enough members present to vote on the budget. Thousands of protesters gathered at the state capitol in opposition to the law. After weeks of stalemate, Republicans separated the union provision from the rest of the budget, allowing them to vote on it without Democrats present.

Walker signed the measure into law, provoking an immediate backlash. Democrats began gathering signatures on recall petitions against all eight eligible Republican state senators, and Republicans responded by attempting to recall all eight eligible Democratic state senators, arguing that they shirked their duties by fleeing the state.

In the end, two GOP state senators lost their seats, but Republicans maintained a narrow majority.

Walker couldn't immediately be recalled (see below), but Democrats quickly turned their efforts to recalling him as well, resulting in Tuesday's contest.

I watch MSNBC with Politic Nation interviewing BIG Eddie never in place of Fox. We are in a serious election time with WI & November so people must be informed with facts and that is NOT Fox news. Boehner & McConnell hate PBO so much their plans are to see our Nation destroyed thinking they will regain White House & Senate with keeping House. NO WAY too me of us are smart enough to keep the msg out on Social Media and trust Politics Nation, Ed Show, Lawrence O'Donnell & of course Rachel Maddow. GOP were so happy abt awful jobs report on this past Friday they confirmed they are UnPatriotic. Boehner has NOT pass any job bills or investments into economy just war on women and destroying pres Obama. WE MUST BAND TOGETHTER TO HELP NAIVE PEOPLE WHO TRUST GOP, if the naive people knew better they would vote better for re-electing pres Obama and taking House back to fire worst speaker ever Boehner.

After Barrett is elected governor in WI we need Ed to call out Boehner who lied abt creating jobs to gain majority in House not one job bill only war on women. Boehner is stalling Transportation bill so pres Obama won't get credit and unemployed will blame pres Obama. Boehner says he does NOT compromise now ask yourself how such a great Nation could have been built without COMPROMISE? McConnell continues his filibuster & his #1 goal to make Pres Obama 1 termer NOT jobs. Ed, Lawrence, Rev Al, Martin, Tamron & Rachel Maddow must keep pushing out facts abt GOP hate for PBO & Nation at all cost as long as PBO is blamed

Well the Scott Walker team is up to it's dirty tricks again. We just received a robo call saying that if you signed the recall petition, there was no need to go to the polls on Tuesday. Shame on you Scott Walker. If you can't win fairly. you don't deserve to win at all!

The GOP is trying to say the fight is the GOP vs. the unions. This is WRONG. This is a fight between the GOP libertarians vs. the middle and lower class. To the GOP it is OK for billionaires to give millions to Walker but it is wrong for the unions to support the people of Wisconsin. The latter not only supported Wisconsin citizens with money but also went door to door to explain the what the election is all about and the importance of voting. The unions are working to expand voting while the GOP with their radical Voter ID laws (drafted by ALEC) are trying to limit voting. The Republicans are losers and are behind the times. The population is changing and they are in a state of denial and in time will become irrelevant if they do not go with the flow.

Wisconsin has not polls the blacks only the white. I hope the blacks come out in fill force and vote for Barrett.

I hope the feds and the state have the courtesy to at least wait until after the election to serve Walker his papers. IMMEDIATELY after the polls close. To wait any longer, would be more than he deserves for all his lies and crimes against his office and the people of Wisconsin.

So far, the middle class has shrunk by almost 1/3. Those folks don't just disappear. They become the working poor, or far worse off. The post-middle class and those who never had a way out of poverty make up a sizable share of the population in Wisconsin today. Ever since WI took a stand in Madison, the discussion has solely been about "middle class workers," to the exclusion of all those who have been pushed into poverty. In other words, "Solidarity forever -- or until you lose your job." Millions of people can only think, "If you still have a steady job AND are still in the middle class, what are you complaining about?" This killed off any incentive among the post-middle class to participate in the recall election. "Divide and conquer" has, indeed, succeeded in WI. Maybe we should rethink this. While the poor have been denied any voice in the public forum, they still do have the power of the vote (as we saw in the presidential election).

With no doubt, "POLITICS NATION",HOST "AL SHARPTON" and Guest "Ed SCHULTZ".Watch FOX???are you kidding me I have not,I mean not,watched Fox for Years.Oh! I must confess,I do tune in for live SPORTS, other than that,no way,I can't stand the lie,after lie,after lie . Also FOX has always been UNFAIR and UNBALANCED.

Remember that old saying "You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time but........ GOOD BYE SCOTTY and don't let the door hit you on the butt when you leave.

Good God, grow up, liberals .. Barrett has never led in any polls. He's a horrible candidate. Everyone knows that Walker will win tomorrow. Instead of spouting idiotic rhetoric, work on finding a candidate that appeals to Wisconsin voters.

There must be something more going on in Wisconsin than is being reported. How can you have so much public outrage and activism around something like this where 50% of the population STILL believes there's nothing wrong? At least, not enough to think it's a reason for voting out the current political leaders?

Arizona accidentally elected an idiot as Governor in the 80's -- a good Mormon guy named Evan Mecham, who also had several decades of business experience. Wanna know how that turned out?

Mecham's first act as Governor was to issue an Executive Order rescinding Arizona's MLK holiday for State Employees. A recall petition was begun circulating shortly thereafter. They gathered way more signatures than they needed and a recall election was scheduled.

Unlike some Republican controlled states today, the Legislature at the time decided to impeach good ol' Ev for taking too many liberties with state budgets, and he resigned before the scheduled recall election happened, much to the dismay of most Arizonans who wanted to actually elect someone else. Instead, the Secretary of State was automatically promoted to fill his seat, the same way the current AZ Gov got her job.

Yes indeed, if you want to see a real live example of the kinds of choices a "successful (Mormon) businessman with decades of experience" would make as a political leader, just take a look at the things Evan Mecham did.

Ev and Mitt served about the same amount of time in their respective Governorships; the only difference is that Ev resigned after about two years while Mitt went on the Presidential campaign trail after a couple of years. They're both conservative Republicans; they both did some mighty creative things with state finances; and they both left things in worse shape than when they came into office.

Mecham was a successful used-car salesman -- Mecham Pontiac was around forever, and Ev became quite wealthy by dumping crappy cars on an unsuspecting public.

Romney was a successful used-business salesman -- Bain Capital bought crappy businesses, split them up and sold off the pieces for a profit, loaded most of them up with excessive debt, then dumped them on taxpayers by filing bankruptcy.

In other words, these two guys were pretty much in the same line of work. Only Romney made a lot more money than Mecham.

I'm sure all of you have noticed how the right wing cult has had their Wacko minions regurgitating the same old party lies. Nothing original, no big picture thinking, no compassion or empathy, and a clear eat your own attitude toward the least amongst us. Simple finger-pointing, name-calling, and other usual petulant, sarcastic, acrid, and vile verbal cut-and-past secretions. No adult or mature thinking with any depth, just shallow parroting of the same rancid black and white hash talking points they've heard from their small thinking obstructionist pundits. Birds of a feather ...

It's hard to think that people have been so dumbed down to believe the 1% are actually looking out for the interests of the remaining 99%.
