After a jury found him not guilty on one charge and was deadlocked on five others, former presidential candidate John Edwards says he doesn't believe he "did anything illegal."
UPDATE: Ex-presidential candidate John Edwards thanked jurors and his family after a mistrial was declared in his campaign corruption trial and says he is responsible for his sins.
Edwards speaking on the courthouse steps today also choked up when speaking of his 4-year-old daughter whom he conceived with his mistress while running for president.
Edward also said he believes he did nothing illegal, but that he did an "awful, awful lot" that was wrong and that no one else wasresponsible for his sins but him.
Edwards was acquitted on one charge of campaign finance fraudand a mistrial was declared on five other counts.
The month-long trial exposed a sordid sex scandal that dashedEdwards' White House aspirations in 2008.

ok- let's discuss Edwards. Left was so enamored with him that in 2004, became the VP nominee. Then, a co-fave with HRC to win the Democratic nomination in 2008. Now- the same guy that repulsed so many and left about the same number enamored, at least on the National Level (Conservatives were sickened at just hearing his voice and watching him make attempts to pass by a mirror without looking), is being called a jerk.

cc- I would agree with your sentiment about Nixon- but, disagree on the concept of being elected. Nixon was elected in a time where every move wasn't picked up by the media, nothing posted on you-tube and going viral- whole different era. We've had a number of unsavory people elected in the past (Nixon wasn't the first). But this is a different era, different technology- goofballs like Edwards should find it more difficult to escape scrutiny.
Now before anyone jumps in and lets me know that Obama did indeed get elected, I will say that Obama is not a goofball. He is an extremely decent guy, bright and sharp, to quote Biden- he is a fairy tale- a black, literate guy- so he should be electable. It's just that he has goofy concepts of the economy, then people get so enamored with his personality that they make up excuses for his ineptness. John Edwards definitely is morally bankrupt, but legally he did nothing wrong. He had already suspended his campaign before the money from Bunny Mellon was deposited. He just wanted to keep his wife and kids from finding out and he didn't want the public to know what a lousy thing he had done, but he's not a criminal.
Like most of us the only thing he is guilty of is having, not trying, but having his cake and eating it too. But in the end he found that cake was not sweet but very very bitter. He talked about doing some type of good but he need to do the good of staying low and taking care of his children. America is a very forgiving country. Take things slowly and he will find things will get better. STAY OF OF PUBLIC LIFE.
