It's a rhetorical question for a lot of people, but Donald Trump's crazed birther rants don't normally get called out as racist in the media. The Grio's @ZerlinaMaxwell makes the case that if Donald Trump were from the South, he would be called on the carpet for playing the race card.
Let’s face it: if Donald Trump were from a state south of the Mason Dixon line, his birther rants would be called out as racist, plan and simple. Trump, who is based primarily in the Northeast, enjoys a friendly relationship with New York media elites and thus his rants are declared outside of the mainstream and maybe even “ridiculous,” but are almost never identified racially biased.
As The Nation’s Ari Melber eloquently noted last year, “[Birtherism] is a putatively non-racial, vaguely constitutional way to challenge the legitimacy of the first black president and appeal to racists without sounding officially racist.”
For his part, Trump says Obama's skin color has nothing to do with his conspiracy theory. He defends himself from the charge after the jump...

Yes. It always has been.
OF COURSE he should be called out on his racism. DONALD TRUMP IS A RACIST through and through. I mean, really, the man was a Democrat, supported Hillary Clinton with millions of dollars, and then, once Obama was nominated, changed his party affiliation. Come On!!!! What a bigotted, classless act Mr. Megamouth is. Call him out on his racisim. He can't deny it. The evidence is there. Who changes their party affiliation on the drop of a dime (obviously you would if you are a racist and a black man is at the top of the ticket.) Donald Trump YOU ARE A RACIST!!!
What a ridiculous question. If you check the Conservative forums there is hardly any mention of his race or racism, yet on the Liberals sites you're wrap yourselves in racist rhetoric daily. Listen, Obama is half black, half white. We could care less about his race. His policies are the issue, e.g, economy and jobs. Since the left can't run on his record, they create BS class warfare and race tensions in an attempt to divert attention from the *real* issues for Americans. What a joke MSNBC has become. Truly sad, but predictable for ED.
Just because you don't know what racism is don't blame anyone else for your lack of knowledge. Funny how the racism jumps out at everyone who has ever went to your right wing sites. See like a skunk racists can't smell their own crap.
The Democrats have their 'race pimps' Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and accused Herman Cain of being an "Uncle Tom" and other foul racist words because he didn't agree with the Democrat Party agenda. The DNC and Liberals play the 'race card' - If you like Obama, you're somehow "evolved", but if you disagree, you're a racist. Sorry, that dog don't hunt and America is laughing at you today for beating the same old drum of nonsense. Obama and the DNC - a Divisive Force for America.
Why don't you find something to occupy yourself with, whacko?
MSDNC 'attempts' to link Romney with Trump or GWB in an effort to discredit him and his campaign. More FAIL from the desperate left. You can't attack him and his family or his record in MA, so you come up with these nutty assumptions while none of these Ed Show forum questions talk about the real issues confronting America; and you wonder why MSDNC is so low in the cable news channel ratings. No outrage for $5 Trillion in new debt while we continue to have high unemployment. LOL!
Just shows how little he understands what racism is. Instead of seeing and thinking about how what he posts that might be seen as racist he looks for excuses to show that he isn't racist.
Yeah. That's who's doing it.
Massachusetts was 36th in the country in job creation; when Romney left it was 47th.
By all means - focus on his record in MA if you think it holds water, but these ridiculous claims of racism is bogus and just makes the left look desperate and out of touch with mainstream America. Then again, the leftist elites have always been out of touch with most of us citizens as they forced Obamacare through a GOP filibuster and now may have it overturned by the Supreme Court next month. Clueless to the bone. Guess who controlled the State Legislature in MA? Yup, Democrats.
How about the 700 million new tax dollars and fee's Mittens put on the backs of the working families.

The White Party
By THOMAS B. EDSALL
In the wake of the 2008 election, conservative Republican strategists like Karl Rove, Grover Norquist and William Kristol warned that their party faced even worse defeats if it continued in its anti-immigrant posturing.
"An anti-Hispanic attitude is suicidal," Rove wrote. The decision to "demagogue" the immigration issue was a "totally self-inflicted wound by House Republicans," Kristol declared. "Beating up on immigrants," Grover Norquist said, "loses you votes."
Their advice was rejected. Republicans running for the House and the Senate defiantly calculated that they could win in 2010 with a surge of white voters, affirming the Republican role as the default party of white America. Initially, this approach appeared quixotic. A demographic tidal wave of African-American and Hispanic voters threatened to wash the Republicans out to sea.
fully 88.8 percent of all ballots cast in 2010 for House Republicans were cast by whites, compared to 63.9 percent for Democrats.
The degree to which the Republican Party has become a white party is also reflected in the composition of primary voters. For example, on March 4, 2008, in Ohio — where non-Hispanic whites are 81.1 percent of the population, blacks 12.2 percent, and Hispanics 3.1 percent — the Republican primary turnout was 97 percent white. Hispanics were 2 percent and the black turnout was so low it was zero percent, statistically speaking. One percent was described as "other."
In the Jan. 19, 2008, South Carolina primary, 96 percent of the Republican turnout was white, 2 percent black, 1 percent Latino and 1 percent other. The population of the state is 64.1 percent white, 27.9 percent black and 5.1 percent Hispanic.

Provide a link to your source. Otherwise, its just more rants from the mutt running around his owners backyard. I enjoy reading the NY Times articles for comic relief as they're about as useful as toilet paper when it comes to the facts. Can't help it if people of different races vote against their own best interests. This video explains the statistics provided in the NY Times article:

Learn to read, idiot.
I guess you're a Murdoch-publication only type of person.
Chris can't wait only got as far as mother goose in reading class.
Which he considers a "True History of the World".
Wacko. I believe he did post link. Something you have never done. I guess that means you just rant. Conservative never bring up racism because they have no clue they are racists and if they talk about they will have to admit it. I think Romney made the connection between him and Trump, not MSNBC. Do you ever take your head out of the sand?
It's not the sand his head's in.
The KKK don't think they're racist, either. They just want blacks to go back to their own country (even if they were born here). The right-wing has the same problem.
LOL
his head seems to be stuck in-between his 3rd and 5th points of contact.
Coming from a 'leg' that is pretty hilarious. Another soldier wannabe, rigiht POS?
Sorry but only tea bagging republicans claim military service which they do in the hopes that no one will call them out on the crap they post.
LOL at wacko, tough guy wannabe! easy to call someone a POS behind a keyboard. how long did it take you to fine the word "leg" and that would be a straight leg for non Airborne types.
so nope, no wannabe here just 100% US ARMY !
ALL THE WAY!!!!
AIRBORNE!!!!
That seems to be a theme running through Romney's surrogates. The mainstream media seems to be letting them get away with making false and rediculous statements. And there's no sense even thinking that Fox would be responsible. This needs to stop! Call Romney,Rove,Trump, and the rest out on what they say and make them prove their comments or stop.
Actually this is what happened after deregulation of the air waves under Reagan. News sources before 79 did not depend on advertising dollars and ratings so they just reported the news. Today news is owned by less then a dozen wealthy people and ratings drive the news, the higher the ratings the more they can charge for advertising spots. Which is why righties rants about ratings crack me up, they think ratings means greatness when reality is ratings just means bigger dollars for the station with high ratings. That is why Paris Hilton stories often replace real news.
starting to realize how racist the left is against any white person with experience behind them has when campaigning for President. the word is EXPERIENCE
Said by a true card carrying racist. Sorry but when you try to claim there is racism against a white guy all you are doing is saying hey look at me I'm racist to the core. And here we go again with the experience nonsense. Mittens has no experience at being president. The only experience Mittens has displayed has been ripping off workers of their pension.
When has Trump ever mentioned anything about "race"???
The ed show, what's next the story about the 90 year old lady that was kept in a closet for the past 75 years and was abducted by little green men and brought back to earth in the 60's but her son still would not let her out of the closet.
Or how about the 7 1/2 inch tall man that lives in a shoe box under the stairs at the mall.
Yeah. In his own words, Trump said, "I've always had a good relationship with the blacks."
So you think Obama never said the words: blacks, latinos, asians? Get a life. Free entertainment.
Get a blog. You're an idiot.
Waaah Waaaah Waaah
Baby needs his bottle?
Word
More race baiting and distraction from the left...for an issue you (the left) claim to be pointless and from a guy you all seem to think is an idiot (Trump) there really seems to be a great deal of time spent on this issue.
Now, I know the left doesn't really think this issue is pointless...because the left selectively plays the race card when it is to their advantage. They want this to be a race issue to (a) appeal to minorities and their (liberal) base (b) distract from the real issues (c) paint the Republicans (especially Romney) as racists (d) gain sympathy for Obama.
Now I do think the birther issues is dumb, but the reason that is has come up is not simply because of Obama's race, but because there is evidence that it may be the case. If we had a candidate whose mother was American and his/her father was Swedish, and there were inconsistencies in birth records or evidence that pointed to a possible birth in Sweden - would that also be racist? Would you say anyone who questioned that hates Swedes? Well, if they were liberal maybe...
What a non-partisan, fair-minded statement. And from a person who says the birther issue is dumb.
Clear as a bell, as always. Now contradict yourself 10 different ways to prove that you're right.
Not surprisingly you responded with a pointless statement, devoid of any facts or evidence to prove me wrong - not to mention the oh so lame personal attacks.
Chris, as much as I love responding to your comments and having some fun with the liberals in here, I honestly come in here to debate and have adult conversation. Please, if you don't have anything intelligent to respond with, don't waste my time trolling me. It is juvenile and annoying. Thanks.
You could always go elsewhere.
If I have to deal with you, you have to deal with me.
"I honestly come in here to debate and have adult conversation. "
LOL guess you are not that honest then, as its been a while that you have debated in a adult way.
Any evidence to prove that Pilot or is it just because you don't agree with me? I suspect the former...but I guess I do set myself up for this nonsense knowing the regulars in here. LOL Pilot, LOL.
Excuse me, the latter. I suspect the latter.
Goodness gracious, the pious, holier-than-thou Loose Canon indulging in character assassination! And of an entire blog! How could anyone suspect his intentions in coming here?
Loose. Name ONE other President that has been ask, repeatedly, to present his BC. And then people still don't believe it. IF you can name ONE, maybe it would convince me it's not racism.
And your first statement shows you have no intention of "debate"
As does his track record going back for at least a year.
Why is it that they always claim to be here to debate when reality shows that no one can debate a prerecorded message on loop mode? When that fails they switch to changing the subject then resort to name calling. Then have the nerve to whine about name calling when others throw their tactics back at them.
Remember when you had Jesse Jackson telling Americans that UNION rights are the same as Civil Rights? and now you have the NAACP telling Americans that GAY rights are the same as Civil Rights? and you had Al Sharpton and the New Black Panther Party telling Americans say there was no justice for Trayvon and attempted to convict George Zimmerman in the court of opinion? Yes, the left will play the race card whenever it suits their Liberal agenda. The Democrat left are so racist they no longer see it.
While the right merely indulges in it.
Why go straight to condemnation by calling others racist rather than defining the term and then determine if applicable to the given issue (birtherism)?
21st century, not 20th.
Because we have defined racism to the tea bagging trolls and they have shown they have no word comprehension skills. They continue to define racism as saying something bad about another race, then try to claim reverse racism.
I've yet to see definition and applicability as method among anyone, not just "tea-baggers", but instead skip straight to first-blush (right or wrong) conclusion. It isn't so much the issue itself as it is a methodology, as in parliamentary or scientific procedure, to establish facts, including definitions, used to support any given claim and thus the basis for others to determine which claim to accept. Presidential debates do not even follow such methodology that any debate club veteran, however young, could do better than the moderators we have had that accept self-serving statements from any politician rather than persist in getting a clear answer.
Welcome to American politics. If politicians told the truth, they couldn't get elected.
Thanks for explaining how Obama was elected in 2008. I figured as much, but it's always good to receive confirmation from the left here. lol
I have a quote from Donald Trumps book : Think like a champion. That came out in 2009 on Obama.
"Bush had been so incompetent that any Republican would have a hard time unless they could bring back Eisenhower. Bush was a disaster for the country as well as for the Republican Party.
Then he asked me about Barack Obama. I told him that Barack will need to be a great president because we're in serious trouble as a country. It hasn't been this way since 1929. So he doesn't have much choice - he will simply have to be great, which he has a very good chance of being.
What he has done is amazing. The fact that he accomplished what he has - in one year and against great odds - is truly phenomenal. If someone had asked me if a black man or woman could become president, I would have said yes, but not yet. Barack Obama proved that determination combined with opportunity and intelligence can make things happen - and in an exceptional way.
.
Best response yet from the left. It sums up exactly what's in your mind. Perfect!!!
No he was reading your mind can't wait.
I don't understand. Trump is not running for any office. Why does Ed and you guys give him the attention?
This race is between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Ed talks more about other things that he thinks might hurt Romney that anybody I have ever seen.
Why don't the bloggers here just talk about Obama's great record since he has taken office.
Talk about how better off you are now than when we took office.
Talk about how our nations debt is in a better position than when he took office.
Talk about how unemployment has moved since he has taken office.....
In other words, why doesn't Ed and the rest of you just talk about Obama and what a great president he has been??? Why don't you talk about that????
All you do is talk about anything buy that. Wonder why?
Can anyone tell me why?.......without calling anyone names.
Someone answer this question for me.
Why doesn't Ed, MSNBC, you guys, just talk about how great the job Obama has done since 2008 and how much better off we are now.?????? I never hear it.
FORGET IT.....I'll tell you why.....because this country is in a lot worse shape since he took office. Our debt is through the roof, health care is a mess with this Obamacare crap, unemployment is up, jobs are down, each party hates the other a whole lot more since he took office. He has done more to polarize the parties and the people of our country. ..........and that is just part of it.
THAT'S WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!
More clear-minded thinking from a right-wing propagandist.
LOL
well gee maybe you should start a blog then we would talk about what you want.
besides if you took a minute or two you might see that we have more then once put out accomplishments of our President.
but i am betting you have only a one sided blindeds on.
I have a quote from Donald Trumps book : Think like a champion. It came out in 2009 on Obama.
"Bush had been so incompetent that any Republican would have a hard time unless they could bring back Eisenhower. Bush was a disaster for the country as well as for the Republican Party.

THEN
Fox news interview
I think that that was a real killer last week when it was announced that when it was released that in the 1990s, he said (Obama) he was born in Kenya. I mean, he said it. His grandmother said it.
Maybe the media should focus what happened that changed Trumps opinion of Obama from 2009 to now?
Odd that interview should come from Fox Propaganda.
It depends on your opinion of racisim. In Norfolk a group of blacks beat up 2 white reporters. Now to some it was much to do about nothing . Some would say a group of blacks beating up 2 whites is hate crime and racial. Now in Flordia a half hispanic half white man got in to a fight with a black 17 year old. He ended up killing the black 17 year old. Some people considered that racist beacause the man was white and he killed a black(even though hes half latino). In Obams case hes half white, but his skin color is brown so we tend to racial profile him as black. So if anything negative is said about Obama some like to say its racist and some dont. Thats what it boils down to some people think its only racism when its white against black or hispanic or oriental. SO some will say Trump is racist some want.
No, I don't think the media should call out Trump's birtherism as racist even though I despise him for 2 reasons. #1-I think it would hurt Obama more than help him. There are a lot of people out there that will say "Here we go again". #2-You will be playing right into Trump's hand.
Trump is a narcissistic attention whore. He doesn't care what kind of attention he gets, good or bad, as long as it's attention. The best way to get under his skin is to ignore him; treat him as if he doesn't exist. If you feel the need to mention him, do so as a 1%er because as long as this birther issue is alive we are being distracted from what this Presidential race is all about, the 1%er's against the 99%er's.
We are trying to help a very deserving disabled veteran support himself and his family.
Company is endorsed by Donald Trump and many others!
Great quality and competitive prices. Please take a few minutes to look at his website:
If you live in the USA, look for your state, if outside the USA, click on your flag.
When Democrats criticized President George W. Bush, it must have been because he is White, right?
Liberals only think racism can be against blacks. period. Isn't that convenient? Then again, the DOJ shares the same perspective after the New Black Panther Party attempted to supress the vote in PA, and called for the death of George Zimmerman.
No they should call Trump a vindictive sore loser!

Sign two and make up your own or vote. For the last one just for fun!
They should call him out, but they probably won't. Money speaks to money. Funny thing is, I don't think Donald sees himself as racist, he just wants the Democrat out of the White House. He wants Mitt or any Repub in there that will help him make MORE money and keep it.
How about the media just start ignoring anything the Trump has to say? Money does not equal erudition. we need a universal delete ap for megabucks motormouth morons
Don't ask Obama about the economy - that would be racist too...
Everything else is a smoke screen to not see abject failure...
No way Jose, this is not in any way a racist issue. If you would report the whole story the truth would be known. It was Wolf Blizer who raised the issue, not Trump. When Wolf raised it , Trump clearly said he was not there to talk about the birther issue but to talk about the economy, jobs and china. Wolf wouldn't let it go. Report the facts rather than your distorted and twisted snippets. We''re going to boycott your advertisers just like the seniors are doing in MN against the AARP because the AARP doesn't support voter identity requirements. AARP is losing it's membership to the new organization at www.60plus.org which better represents the views of seniors and is not politically bent.
Let the record reflect: John McCain was the first presidential candidate of the 2008 election that was sued in federal court by a white, Democrat attorney, over his "birther" qualifications, not Barack Obama.
Furthermore, nothing has been proven as to where and when Obama was born. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General: BIRTH CERTIFICATE FRAUD OEI-07-99-00570
FINDINGS: A certified copy of a birth certificate is proof only that a birth occurred and was recorded.
What this means is that all the other information contained in Obama's two birth certificates must be proven the old fashion way, but a preponderance of evidence.
Even if we take Barack Obama's two Hawaiian birth certificates at face value, it would clearly demonstrate he is not an Article ll 'natural born' Citizen because his father wasn't an American citizen when Barack was born.
Mitt Romney has a similar problem...his father was born in Mexico to expatriated US citizen parents who gave up their US citizen to be allowed by Mexican authorities to colonize in Mexico.
By natural law, an Article ll 'natural born' Citizen is a person born a US citizen under the cloak of allegiance of the father. That is what De Vattel observed, and is still the natural law of inheritance.
Allowing the courts to decide who is or who isn't a 'natural born' Citizen allows the government to create the 'ruling class' and not the Constitution
