Isn't it funny how all these various republican politicans who were photographed at ribbon cutting ceremonies on projects the stimulus helped pay for or used the money to repair holes in their state's budgets are the same ones saying it's the root of all evil
What projects?????
My dog has created more shovel ready jobs than obama....
Oh, you means like the American Jobs act, which would have invested in infrastructure, modernized schools, kept over 250,000 teachers in the classroom, expanded our high speed wireless connectivity and cut taxes for 98% of American businesses; that sort of shovel ready job? Ohhh, that's right... Republicans voted that one down because it would have been another Obama success story... And before you start, let me cut you off... Obama has created 4.2 million jobs and finally has net job gain per month as president, your boy W... left with net job loss. Unstrap your dog from the roof of the car and he'll probably tell a different story..
kkrause well I like you am not sure what stupidita means...something about that name makes me less likely to listen to his opinion...I don't know why
I was reffering to people like Rick Perry who used an amount of stimulus money to balance the texas budget but still came out so against it later....while bragging that he balanced the budget.....you know people like that
That's perfect.
Or we could talk about the high speed rail built in Minnesota (with intention to connect to Milwaukee) with government money, the same government money Scott Walker turned down in Wisconsin. I think we all know Walker's job record...
Oh, you means like the American Jobs act, which would have invested in infrastructure, modernized schools, kept over 250,000 teachers in the classroom
250,000 what??? schools & teachers get their money from, ready? "Local tax dollars" not the federal tax dollars.
The Jobs act would have funded some schools. Maybe try reading what bills do what. But then that might prove you wrong on every post. OH, you are wrong on every post.
No one zero voted for the "jobs act"...
Think back way back to Jan 2009...... There yet? A.R.R.A remember?
That was going to keep the, you ready for this? unemployment rate from going to 8%.
It hit 10% in October 2009.
Next there is no out dry for more teachers, fireman, cops, etc...
It is all a load of Bull$hit, and liberals like ed keep beating this dead horse.
LOL
at lease you are semi funny. some of the time, and some people say this as well.
but thanks for the afternoon laugh.
My view is republicans are for republicans no matter whats right or wrong. I am 60 years old and have been out of work for almost 2 years my state no longer qualifies for Fed Extension on Unemployment benefits and I will most likely lose the house I have worked hard for all my life. I feel better trusting Obama than any republican as he is the only one doing anything to try and fix our money problems.
How long did you live in the house? Why did you not pay it off ?
Maybe because she was unemployed for two years genius
But that person said they worked "All their life" so why was the house not paid off?
And we got either a live at home kid or a renter. See in the adult world when you own a house you have to take out loans to get major repairs done on the house. Houses have wear and tear that costs money, as any home owner can tell you.
Then there's the part about how you don't jump into a house right out of school. It's time to get the money to make a real move on one and then a couple decades at least to actually purchase it. Many years......
not to mention it takes around 30 years to pay for one.
steve,
your post above #2.3, reminds me once again how simple-minded you all are. a "house" is not the only thing you pay for to "live". you have to pay for power, water, food, medical bills, a vehicle, insurance, and ETC. it would be nice if everything else was free, and all we had to worry about was paying for a house.
do you all have the inability to look at your own lives, and make deductions based on that?
i guess not.
Less people work today than in 2009. That is a net loss of jobs no matter what graph or chart you use. Obama has proven he does not have the skills nor ability to help the economy or job situation. Period. This is not arguable folks, please don't embarass yourselves by trying,
LOL
oh thanks for the laugh.
you still need lots of help with your delivery.
but it does have some points for originality.
Pilotshark.
Delivery does not matter. Facts matter.
And you are a fact free republican so facts in fact don't matter to you because as a republican you believe telling a lie more then 3 times makes it a fact.
Thanks to republican policies.
Of course after being president for over three years and controlling the house and senate for two years we are going to blame republican policies. That is sad folks. When Ronald Reagan took over the WORST economy in modern history, 18 percent unemployment, 21 percent interest rates, he didn't blame Carter after three years, he solved our problems!! The president must stop the blame game. It is HIS economy.
Everyone know (or should know) that with the rules of the Senate, the minority can prevent any legislation from passing unless the majority has 60 votes. Democrats have not had that large a majority during Obama's term in office. Republicans have been obstructionist since the day the President took office.
No Reagan created the worst economy in history. Talk about a rewrite of history, Unemployment was 8.2% when Reagan took office in 1980, when unemployment started climbing under Reagan First thing Reagan did was to drop everyone on welfare off the unemployed list, so when unemployment peaked it only hit 10.8%. So when Reagan left office in 1988 unemployment was down to 7.4%, once you eliminate the welfare from Carters unemployed numbers of 8.2% it comes to 7.5%, so in 8 years Reagan left office with the same amount of unemployed as there was when he took office. So take your history rewrites elsewhere they won't fly in here. Oh and another thing is Reagan blamed Carter and liberals for his problems the entire 8 years he was in office.
Also don't forget that it was under Reagan that the stock market crashed for the very first time since 1929, yep the Reagan legacy.
Ed,
It would be extremely helpful if you could put in one (easy to find) place all of the fantastic charts that you have shown on your show. Also, the list of Obama's accomplishments during his first three/four years. This would really help us when discussing the real facts with family and friends who drank the GOP Kool-Aid and desperately need our help.
Thanks, Greg Gamman
P.S. Love your show. You are the best of the best on MSNBC.
Sorry but our little tea bagging GOP supporters refuse to listen to anyone except Fox news. Just check out Ed's Graph on productivity and wages, the tea baggers are trying to say that workers are not working longer hours to increase productivity but that automation is behind the productivity. tea baggers don't deal with facts or reality.
You got that right, the party of R W hypocrites have blocked Obama all the way and he is pushing through and will win, they merely hate him because he makes them look exactly like what they are---liars! And Oh he's the most intelligent man in Washington and then some!
We Will Win!
I would have to agreE he is very very smart and a damn smooth talker as well. When he flip flops he is so smooth that he evolves instead of flip floping. I mean he is so smart that he has convinced us that smoking pot and doing blow is cool and ok. Any other Presendent and we would be yelling for impeachment. This guy is a very very smart man and he is like a celeberty to all of us.
blow?
oh you must mean GW he had a good addition to that.
Are you kidding we went after GW for a whole lot less than blow. If I recall correctly it was a DWI. Nobody is as smart as Obama when it comes to making us think everything he does is cool.
At least Obama hasn't started any trillion dollar wars of choice based on a pack of lies that has killed and maimed 100s of thousands and displaced millions of civilians. The Imbecile Bush and his entire administration of oil CEOs should be at the Hague for war crimes
Ronald Reagan had the help of the Democrats. Obama has received no help at all from the Republicans and he has got alot accomplished.
Reagan negotiated with the Democrats. Obama used the first two years of his presidency to ignore the Republicans
Then there is what really happened and it wasn't the president at fault it was the GOP filibuster splurge.
The Democrat controlled Senate has not even passed a budget in three years
Which of course excuses the last two years of the republicans not trying to work with the other side on anything because it was wrong then so it's right now!
yeah that makes sense
Here we go again selective memory syndrome.
whom
it is not hard to see the paid for trolls, this one must be behind in its quota so its just posting away.
Steve, Who controls the House? I believe it's the GOP. They are responsible for ALL spending bills. The Ryan budget was a joke the first time and worse this time. They knew when they waseted their time and our money on it, it would never pass the Senate. Maybe if they passed a bill that was good for the country and not just the 2%, something would get done. And lets not forget, McConnell, "Our #1 priority it to make Obama a 1 term President". That says it all.
The chart only shows FIRST-TIME claims... many of those people stayed on the public dole as long as possible. The real unemployment rate, including those who have just dropped out of the work force, is about 15 percent
Right and then there is the reality of how many tea bagging republicans with their hands out whining about those others who make it impossible for them to get bigger handouts. After all only tea bagging republicans are entitled to government handouts.
Republicans don't want handouts.. they want the government to live within its means
Steve --
If by "live with its means" you mean austerity... Check out Greece or Ireland, seems to be working wonders for them.
Rather, I would encourage you take a look at Germany or France... This is how the economy works: When the economy slumps because nobody is spending (aka no demand) the government must step in, aka American Jobs Act as an example. You right wingers with your supply side economics, "cut taxes for the job creators!" because it has worked so well in the past... Austerity is a losing battle. You and I must spend less than we make on a monthly and yearly basis, sure, but we are not a government. We are also not responsible for a required growth of a national economy. There are different rules that need to be applied to the starkly different situations..
And before you, like Mitt Romney, attempt to draw a parallel between our current situation and Greece let me cut you off... We have a sovereign currency (unlike Greece) and we can borrow money right now for next to nothing. This IS the time to responsibly borrow money, eliminate out sourcing and tax loop holes and invest in our workers and grow our economy. It is not, however, time to cut taxes and shrink the government.
You are right about the unemployment claims though. Many people are leaving the work force so the numbers are not 100% accurate. That bothers me every time I see it. Just the same as the productivity vs wage chart... Production has become mechanized, of course productivity will rise at a greater rate than wages - one guy now operates a machine that replaced 20.
In short, government cannot "give" money without TAKING from others first
Government can borrow. Then it can collect the increased tax revenue generated by the stimulated and improved economy (something like $1.60 per $1 spent) while simultaneously closing the loopholes that allow companies like Facebook to avoid taxation by putting multiple headquarters in tax-friendly countries and allowing millionaires (like Mitt) to pay 13% income tax? Don't quote me on the exact percentage but, instead, take away from it that his tax rate was TOO LOW.
The government needs to simultaneously borrow, spend and become more responsible. It also needs to hold these giant banks and corporations more accountable. Nowhere in that formula can you use the word "take" with connotation so commonly assigned to it by Republican voters and policy makers.
A true believer of Reagan, he just can't grasp that taxes aren't just used for the poor, Reagan lied. Taxes are the dues you pay for services that government provide, the wealthy uses more government services so they should be paying more. Typical republican thinks taxes are for punishing him and not looking at all the services government provides for him.
Thanks for expanding on how taxes work. I'm sure no one learned from that but thanks just the same. But riddle me this wy do the Republicans who you claim don't like handout want subsidiese for big oil.....why does is all of a sudden taxes are theft? Last I checked it was our legal civic responsibility and duty....but I suppose if you follow the self over all other things Rand philosophy I might see how contributing to anything viewed as "collective" would be such a terrible sin....course that's just not compatible with a prosperous society.....
Don't forget Rand went on public assistance after she spent her fortune on boy toys and got sick. Another fact the right refuse to acknowledge.
And for Steve on "republicans don't want handouts", I know of more than one, when their jobs went bye bye, received great severance packages, including medical insurance for life, started their SS and Medicare, and unemployment. Including ALL federal extensions. They lied to get the unemployment, because neither intended on going back to work. Sound like not only handouts, but thieves as well.
What a nice looking graph....
Still over 12 million Americans out of work.
Over 3 years of over 8% unemployment.
No mater how many charts & graphs the liberals toss out there, they still can not hide from the numbers.
Seriously? Is your name kind of a head's up for the words that follow??
Do you remember 2008? Do you remember the deregulation aided housing bubble burst? Do you remember AIG? Do you even know what Glass-Steagall is? Have you even bothered to take a look at what bills have gone un-passed because of the filibuster?
We're not hiding from anything. I suggest you stop distorting the truth and educate yourself; ignorance is a bad color this time of year.
Nope it just repeats nonsense it hears from rimjobs free republic.
Oh kkrause how brainwashed you must be by the media into to thinking that the guy who says he will be better than Obama is the same guy championing the silly things that got us into this mess in the first
why wouldn't people want the guy whose policies are ones that screwed everything up to begin with
'cuz that's logical right far righters....reagan be with you
If Mitt Romney knew how to get people HIRED like he knows how to get people FIRED, Massachusetts wouldn't have been number 47 out of 50 in job creation.
Do you remember 2008? Do you remember the deregulation aided housing bubble burst? Do you remember AIG? Do you even know what Glass-Steagall is? Have you even bothered to take a look at what bills have gone un-passed because of the filibuster?
1978 Carter signs a law allowing banks to sell stocks & bonds & insurance.
1999 Clinton signs the repeal of Glass-Steagall.
2003 GWB wants to put fannie & freddy under the control of the Fed, barnny frank said "I want to roll the dice"...
Still the fact is over 12 million out of work over 40 million on food stamps over 3 years of over 8% unemployment.
Those are the facts!!!
Funny, from your post, it almost looks like we've had nothing but Democratic presidents.
The bigots, birthers and the fringe idiots don't care about the facts.
However, the Independents and REAL Republican voters DO!
When the Democratic Party starts revealing the truth to the American voters, Romney along with his revised 21st century “Counterfeit Confederate Party” will be picking up the pieces of the devastation, they themselves created, to the demise of their own party.
...and they do it all in the name of GREED.
True dat.
Obama? Well, he lowered taxes for 98% of Americans , closed a security hole by ending "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", fought the supposed patriots in the GOP to care for the 9/11 first responders, got the START treaty reducing Russian nukes by 1/3, got the economic stimulus that kept cops and firemen on the job, got an end to pre-existing conditions in health insurance, got credit card reform, Fair Pay Act for women, the overdue Food Safety bill - and he did it all in the face of UNPRECEDENTED filibusters. This is a GREAT president. And he got Bin Laden after Bush dropped the ball. 25 straight months of private sector job growth. 4.1 million jobs added. Auto industry back from brink. Stock market up 63%.
Are you suggesting that President Obama and his administration are responsible for the addition of jobs and in the increase in the stock market. If so exactly how did that happen. Presidents in general always claim credit if "times" are good and blame someone else if "times" are bad. Makes no difference whether Republican or Democrat. What you hear is that "my" polices did this and the other guy's policies did that. Typically without any real cause and effect analysis. I agree that fiscal policy (e.g. stimulus) can impact a recession (hopefully to the good) but along will not create a recovery.
Liberals all walk the earth with their white robes on parting the sea's, and dictating there socialism to the masses.
And idiots like you stalk the blogs spouting hatred and dogma.
Deffinately live up to the name with every key stroke.
And idiots like you stalk the blogs spouting hatred and dogma.
You call me an "idiot" and I'm the one who is spouting "hatred"?
But you are right: I hate the over 8% unemployment.
I hate the over 40 million on food stamps
I hate the over $5 trillion obama has put on the books.
I hate the over 12 million Americans out of work.
I hate the over 1100 days of no budget.
What do you hate? other than republicans.
Let's see:
I hate two unfunded wars one of which was started by choice on a pack of lies.
I hate a Congress that is so partisan as to not even agree to their own ideas once agreed to by Obama
I hate reconstructionists who despite video tape, deny events occurred
I hate people that blame Obama for the bailouts approved under Bush
I hate people that seem to remember peace and prosperity under Bush and believe that the day Obama took office we were suddenly in debt and in the middle of two unwinnable wars
stimulus that kept cops and firemen on the job
Local tax money pays for that not federal money!!!
The A.R.R.A failed to live up to the hype, obama and the liberals all had charts & graph's (like the ed show) showing that the A.R.R.A would keep the unemployment rate from hitting 8%.
After 4 months the rate it hit 10% and has been over 8% for 3 1/2 years now.
Still down over 5 million jobs from Dec 2008....
Estimates of ARRA’s Impact in the First Quarter of 2012
CBO estimates that ARRA’s policies had the following effects in the first quarter of calendar year 2011 compared with what would have occurred otherwise:
http://www.cbo.gov/publication/43274
Januray 2009 142,099,000 people at work.
January 2012 141,637,000 people at work.
bls.gov
the facts will set you free.
January 2009 142,099,000 people at work.
January 2012 141,637,000 people at work.
Jan 2009 unemployment rate 7.8%
Jan 2012 unemployment rate 8.3%.
bls.gov
go there the facts will set you free.
I think your keeper has set you free.
So in reality the facts say we have less jobs now than 2009. This cant be look at EDS chart the unemployment rate has went down. We cant possibly have less jobs the unemployment rate went down.Unfortunaly Eds chart is just people who are actualy signed up for unemployment.
Stupidita,
Pay no attention to dufuses such as TheRealChris and High rolla. High rolla does not understand what the unemployment rate (actually the U3 unemployment rate, there are several, not that he would know that) means. The U3 unemployment rate (which the fools in the media call "the" unemployment rate) is the proportion of the workforce (which is defined as those employed or looking for work in the last four weeks) that is not employed. It is entirely possible to have the U3 rate increase or decrease with no change whatsoever in the total number of persons employed Unfortunately, the retarded slobs in the media do not seem to understand this.
Its Fiday and the jobs reoport just came out. Maybe you can tell me what it means.
High Rolla, just go to the BLS web site (bls.com) and read the commissioner's statement. No need to rely on retards like Ed to misintepret the information for you.
Mitt Romney is the epitome of the executive
used car salesman. In fact, he and Trump were classmates at the Trump University of Used Car Salesman. His flip flopping is simply pandering to the group he's
selling his used car to at the moment. His career has been manipulating assets,
debt, and pensions of companies for the benefit of Bain Capital (himself).
He's today's Gordon Gekko. He doesn't work while he makes $2Million/month,
$100,000.00/weekday (Interest and income from money that should have been
working for the companies he raided) .
Unfortunately this is not Hollywood.
Next there is no such place called "Trump University of Used Car Salesman"...
Furthermore Romney never ran off with any ones money, that would be the darling of the DNC a real hero in the eye's of all liberals Jon Corzine!!!
And he is still tossing boat loads of money at the re-elect obama fund.
But ed can-o-shclitz will never talk about any of that....
who wants a US president who keeps his money overseas ?/
what Nation does he serve ?
I think Romney's more of a self-serve type of guy.
Scopes has verified this....When Romney went to Bain & Co. as CEO he took a salary of one dollar. When he went to rescue the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, he accepted no salary for three years and would not use an expense account. He also accepted no salary as Governor of Massachusetts. Now that's a man of character who will serve this country well as President.
Wrong Snopes did not verify that nonsense they verified that Mittens helped find the missing daughter of a Bains employee. Really how you get that helping to find a missing kid means everything else about mittens must be true is beyond me. Even bad cops do good ffs.
Unfortuanly the unemployment stat doesnt focus on how many people actualy dont have a job. It only counts people signed up for umemployment. The unemployment rate can go down even if its because people just gave up looking for work. So ED has to be a complete idiot not to understand that. The real numbers need to be considered when trying to explain it. For example if you spend 10million to create 10 jobs thats not a sucess. Thats 1 million per job. I personaly just became disabled well it takes a long time to get disabilty approved in my state. Now Im broke and unemployed, but Im not considered to be unemployrd because Im not signed up for it.
LOL at you.
" So ED has to be a complete idiot not to understand that."
enjoy you time off. LOL
"For example if you spend 10million to create 10 jobs thats not a sucess."
kind of like Chris Christi of NJ right? where he gave Hoyle 880K tax break for 9 jobs. thats what around 97k a job.
LOL
Remember according to the stats Im not unemployed. Even though in reality I am unemployed, so yes to think that Im employed and im realy not means your not very bright. Point is I cant belive Ed would be stupid enough to point to a chart showing unemploymrnt stats. Its not the true actual number of people who dont have a job.
It great having stupidita around relentlessly disproving the very point he try's to make. Post more of you hair brained crap.... it's entertaining.
They have been keeping the unemployment numbers the same since the depression that is a stupid Criticism at whats going on.
Ok ED its Friday and the jobs report just came out. MSNBC says the jobless rate fell to 8.2% and only 69,000 jobs were created. Please pull up another chart and tell us this is not true. I wonder what the true unemployment rate is?
You guys need to educate yourselves.
For U3 purposes, a person is counted as unemployed if he is not employed but has been actively looking for work (this means submitting applications, not just looking at want ads) in the past 4 weeks. The number of such persons is determined by a monthly survey of 60,000 households, the Current Population Survey (CPS). The total workforce is computed as the sum of employed persons and these unemployed persons. The "unemployment rate" is computed as the the number of such unemployed persons divided by the total workforce.
Whether a person has signed up for unemployment has absolutely nothing to do with the BLS unemployment statistics.
And yes, persons who have given up looking for work are (obviously) not counted as unemployed in computing the U3 unemployment statistic.
Well there is an easier way to do it. Just count the actually number of people who dont have a job. Dont count disables or retired people. I mean really the way Loop figures it out is stupid as hell. That dont tell you the real unenployment rate. We need to abandon that merthof for sure. They just passed a law here in South Carolina where if you get fired you not even elgible to draw unemployment. However you are unemployed just not counted as such.
Would make a lot more sense to look at how many people are actually employed:
That's right, all Obama's squandering of borrowed money has taken us back to the employment level of January, 2009, when he took office. Pretty pathetic. Give him another four years so he can borrow another 5 trillion and we may get back to the level of January 2007.
Man, I can't believe this crappy web site. I included a link to the BLS series on total employment in the previous post and it was removed. Anyway, the BLS series is LNS12000000, total employment. Just google LNS12000000 and click the first link displayed. You will see that we have slightly fewer people employed today than we did in January 2009. And a lot fewer (about five million fewer, in fact) than in November 2007. All this hoopla about job growth under Obama is just bald-faced lies, and demonstrably so.
"Give him another four years so he can borrow another 5 trillion "
LOL thanks that was good, i knew i could get a laugh before work.
