The Republican presidential candidate visited a West Philadelphia charter school
Mitt Romney hit a road block today when his education tour stopped in West Philadelphia. Parents and teachers rejected his plan to corporatize public schools and increase class sizes. And the mayor told him to get out!
Tonight, Eugene Robinson, MSNBC Analyst and Associate Editor and Pulitzer Prize winning Columnist for the Washington Post, and Sam Stein, Huffington Post political editor, talk about Romney’s ugly day.
Congressman Mike Coffman has a brand new excuse for his attack on President Obama and it's a beaut. Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Editor and Publisher of The Nation, looks at the right-wing hatred of the president.
Governor Rick Scott wants wants to play the role of Katherine Harris this year and purge 180,000 voters off the rolls in Florida. Ed will talk to Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL), the congressman leading the effort against the massive voter suppression plan in the Sunshine State.
Mitt Romney doesn't have the spine to disagree with Rush Limbaugh when it comes to attacking President Obama. The big panel - Jack Rice, criminal defense attorney, former CIA officer and talk show host, Michael Medved, nationally syndicated talk show host, and Ilyse Hogue, Senior Advisor to Media Matters - weigh in on that, and much more.
And in the Big Finish, Scott Walker's reinforcements are coming to Wisconsin, including Union-busting South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Walker's Democratic recall challenger Tom Barrett joins Ed tonight with some tough questions for Walker.

Hey! Mitt's getting an education!
No Mittens got schooled but he hasn't learned yet.
Another epic fail for Romney. About that class size comment and the so called "Think Tank" he mentioned. Sounds like another of his BSs again. Can anyone confirm that?? I've seen and been to schools in other countries. Size of classroom does matter. Where does he get his facts??? Fascinating...
He's got a BS in BS.
Mitt is clueless about what to do about education, just as he is clueless about creating jobs, balancing budgets, etc. The only thing he knows is how to look out for the 1 %ers and fire working class people and not be concerned about the poor.
The problem we have here is that we have shown way too much concern for the poor. Now the poor expect to be catered to. Now the poor recruit other losers into the ranks of the poor to enjoy the free ride. Screw the poor.
A little bit redundant of a comment, isn't it, Jerry?
Eugenie thinks that Black children are being catered to too much.
Have you ever been to an inner city school, eugenie? Until you have you shouldn't make comments that make you look foolish.
He thinks everybody that doesn't make $250K/yr is poor and looking for a handout. He also believe all Democrats and No Republicans are poor or recieveing any assistance. He has said he wouldn't sttp so low as to associate with the poor.
"Have you ever been to an inner city school, eugenie?"
Judy W
LOL
I went to an inner city high school, in fact it was the same high school that Sheldon Adelson (Newt's benefactor) dropped out of. The students were scum, the teachers were scum and the parents were worse than all of them put together.
Larry
Those are very harsh words, accurate, but nonetheless harsh.....lol
Mitt Romney does not care about students or families that can't afford to pay for a private school education.
Did Mitt have permission from the parents to visit with the students today? It seems to be a problem when the President gives a back to school speech each year......... so much so some of them stay home the day of the speech.
I'm glad they had Macs, they're great computers and they last a long time. Mine is almost 8 years old. Looks like that school is going to get their money's worth.
Charter schools ARE public schools. They are not allowed, by law, to be private schools. There is no point in having a discussion about public schools without recognizing this.
I suggest you go back on read up on the differences between Charter Schools vs Public Schools.
Some charter schools are successful, but some aren't. There was a lot of hoopla over the charter schools in the beginning, but there really isn't much difference because like the public schools in the same town there is no consistency in them.
In the same town you could have an elementary school that outshines another elementary school, the same with middle and high school.
I don't know if it's because the superintendents and board of education are lax when it comes to certain parts of towns or what, but there should be a complete study done about this.
Too bad they also get public tax money.
WE, our children are not safe with Mitt involved in ANY way in education....I would guess HIS children do not attend public school.....HE has no concept nor ability to understand the struggle, challenges and changes ever present in our public schools.......
And Obama's children go where? oh yeah...a private school.
That should make you vote for him, Storm. He's the privileged class.
@stormguy, you really think the children of the POTUS should be in a public or charter school?
I could see it now with the secret service watching over them, yeah that would make sense wouldn't it?
Being the President's daughters they need special protection, and if you can't see why then I suggest you put in for the brain transplant.
And exactly what extra protection do they receive at a private school that they can't get at a public school or a charter school? What is different about the school grounds that gives the children extra protection?
The secret service watching over them in either situation is exactly the same..
Come on Judy...provide a justification instead of displaying the typical Dummycrat hypocrisy.
Ed is confusing charter schools with for-profit schools. Charter schools ARE public schools and are NOT for-profiit.
How do we make these people stop? Looks like we have to get the bums with R after the name out! We should charge the Sec. of State and throw in jail with disenfranchisement for each case found of illegal denial of voting.
This country has been propagandized and hypnotized to believe they have to protect the status quo, which I think has to do with rich powerful keeping it, using fear of "others" taking away the "real" Americans' entitlement. Talk about being dependent and fearful, needing government to protect the entitlement of power.
Maybe I'm ignorant, but why throw Mrs. Clinton in jail? As for the people who refuse to look at facts, believe me I know they are frustrating, but they did a study on "conservatives" over in Great Britain and they are continuing it over here.
It seems that the "conservatives" have enlarged amygdalas in their brains which controls their fears and other primitive behaviors which explains why many are bullies compared to Liberals. It's genetic, they just can't help what they are.
I believe "sandy" was refering to the Sec of State of AZ. Just my opinion.
Yes, it was actually Florida and AZ Sec's. of State and I was a bit of sarcasm with wishful thinking, but we need consequences for trying to stop people from voting, if there are any mistakes made taking people of voter rolls.
My mistake for not stating it more clearly. Agreed on the rest of it.
"off" voter rolls… sorry… I just babysat an 11 month old all day...
America spends more per student then any other nation but we rank 32nd in math science and reading
And the Libs just want to throw more money at the failed system
Let's see some url on that. Or was it fnc who told you this?
Well, there's not a State in the nation that has cut education. How can you say we spend too much. Oh, maybe it's the 3 pricaples making $2-25K/yr. Or maybe the 4 V pricaples, 6 secrataries. The biggest problem with our education spending is, where it's mostly spent.
We spend too much because the kids come out of school dumber than when they went in. Look at the international stats. Just remember that they're being taught by academics (aka liberals) not people from the real world.
btw I'd like to congratulate Barry for spending 82 billion a year on food stamps, up from 42 billion before he got to DC.
We do have a problem with our education system but it can be fixed. First we have to quit cutting the budget every time the State has a budget problem. That is the first thing the politions do. I guess it just sounds good that they want to get rid of the big unions that normally support Democrats. It always seems to be the poorer districts that gets cut while the richer districts are not touched. This country was the leader in education for many years and we still can be but first we have fund the schools. Why should American companies have to bring in workers from other countries to do their jobs.
Only fetuses are important to the gop once they are born they are not important anymore.
Johnny...yes...that makes perfect sense. Continue to spend the same amount of money regardless of whether you are still making the same amount. Every family in the country should do exactly that...
geeez...
Nevermind....
Some times I do not think a public school is a public school. If you pay school taxes, then is the public school a public school? Then when the state cut money going to the public schools guess who the school districts go after to make up that short fall. So I do not know what Romney is talking about. We are already suffering with more children in class rooms because of people like him when his title was governor make budget cuts to school districts because their thinking is education is not important. I was so angry my grandson was in a kindergarten class with more children than the teacher could handle. I do not know if I was the only one complaining but the school made another class and today I am happy with the results. The school district had the common sense to reduce the number of children in that kindergarten, yes, mind you, kindergarten class.
Check out Cranbrook's teacher - student ratio: 1:9.
Right! I have no problem with people paying for and sending their children to private schools for the advantages of smaller classes. I do have a problem with those same people proposing to increase classes sizes on those whose parents can't afford the privilege.
