Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, N.J., spoke out in support of Mitt Romney's experience at private equity firm Bain Capital. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
President Obama fires back at criticism of his attacks on Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital record following an unexpected smackdown by Obama surrogate and Newark Mayor Cory Booker.
Tonight, Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Randy Johnson, a former American Pad and Paper worker (and victim of Romney's vulture capitalism), will tell Mayor Booker what's really “nauseating.”
In Massachusetts, Sen. Scott Brown is using a trivial issue to attack Elizabeth Warren's credibility. But instead of facing the issue, she's ignoring it. Ed will talk with state Sen. Katherine Clark (D-MA) about that.
The Fighting Irish are fighting the contraception mandate. The NAACP says same-sex marriage is a civil right. Donald Trump says Mitt Romney is making a mistake by taking the Rev. Wright off the table. And Hawaii tells Arizona exactly where the president was born.
Ed will have reaction and analysis on these issues from our panel, including Dr. James Peterson, Director of Africana Studies and Associate Professor of English at Lehigh University, Dr. Caroline Heldman, Professor of Politics at Occidental University, and Jimmy Williams, former Democratic Senate Staffer and MSNBC Contributor.
Scott Walker might be headed back to Capitol Hill to explain his "divide and conquer" bombshell. We'll have the latest from Wisconsin.
And in the Big Finish, Rush Limbaugh's ratings take a dive across the country after his sexist, insulting comments about Sandra Fluke. Is he still too big to fail? Michael Harrison, Publisher of Talkers Magazine, will talk about what it means for Limbaugh and the radio industry.

i would love to see rush's show gone.there is no place for his radical rants in this world
Rush Limbaugh's own personal grail
Is getting the President to fail...
He doesn't care the failed country
Would bring down all and sundry -
Rush's treason should land him in jail!
i agree rush is a piss poor excuse of a human. i'm sure glad that his 4 wives practiced birth-control.
Rush Limbaugh more than insulted Sandra Fluke;
He caused women to give him a hard look...
They despise what they see
And will bring bankruptcy
To his future... On that, you can make book!
Billie~ You're assuming that Rush likes women, or that one of them would let him touch them with a ten-foot pole. I thinks all his wives are/were "beards". He pays, they make him look straight.
To the Republican Menstrual Police:
STOP TRYING TO CONTROL MY PERIOD!!!
Rush is a jerk, but her has as much of a right to express his opinions as anyone else. And as long as people agree with him and tune in he should remain on the air. That's part of remaining in a free society.
Cory Booker has a whole lot to learn,
Mitt Romney believes it's his turn...
What Mitt learned at Bain
Is spreading the pain -
He loves fire when there's money to burn...
Cory Booker has been brought back in line from having spoken his honest opinion. NBC News reported Team Obama has spoken to him, and now he has issued a "clarification". How dare a Democrat, a Black Democrat at that, have an independent opinion. Mr Johnston- you hit the nail on the head. Booker has been "schooled" and it won't happen again.
Rusty, you are so right on point. Cory ran off the Democratic Plantation and had a brief moment of "Freedom" in the form of free speech. The Obama Slave Hunters chased him down, brought him back to the Plantation and gave him a good old fashion Whipping.
He is so meek and humble now. Let that be a lesson to any other Black, Democratic elected official.
Yep- the Congressional Black Caucus isn't open to any Black Congressmen. Only those who toe the liberal line.
Wow AA,
you sound more racist all the time!!! Why must you invoke Slavery here? I guess it can't be because you unable to argue the merits of Booker's Folly???
Because he sis run of the Plantation and was horse whipped
Whhat???
i can't follow your reasoning or your sentence phrasing!!! Try again though, maybe even you can get it together...
It is late, so let me repeat. He ran off the Obama/Democratic Plantation and got his a$$ horsed whipped.
You know it as well as all of America.
Go to bed AA!!!
Mayor Booker's "folly" was speaking his honest opinion about what was best for the people of Newark, New Jersey. He wasn't concerned with the party line or philosophy. He spoke about what was best for the people who elected him. It's nice to see a politician worried about his constituents. I'm just sorry he knuckled under to the pressure when Obama's people came for him.
The again, what choice did he have? Look at what the Democrats did to Senator Lieberman, a man who was once a Democratic Vice Presidential running mate, for following his own conscience and doing what the people of Connecticut wanted. And considering that he's been re-elected since his "ex-communication" it's pretty obvious the people there still agree with the way he does things. Disagreeing with the party line does not go well for Democrats. Ever.
also want did sandra fluke ever do to rush for him to call her those nasty names?
The same thing Laura Ingram did that caused Big Eddie to do the same..
corporations are not ppl, they are just moneymaking machines who have no soul, and dont care for anybody who gets hired or FIRED
So the people who work for MSNBC and GE are not people? Then GE should stop with their commercials showing real people making Airplane and Train Engines.
Cory Booker's political career as a Democrat is over. If he was planning to run for a higher office in the future and win, he now should kiss that goodbye.
Booker needs to apologize.
He must be about ready to jump the fence and turn Republican. What a thoughtless thing to say. At least I hope it was just thoughtlessness and not planned. After this screw-up, it might be his only option if he plans on seeking higher office.
Don't worry- Team Obama has "spoken" to him. He is back in line after issuig a "clarification". I see an ambassadorship for him...
MJB- I can tell you are the type of person who would be fairly tough on someone who didn't toe the line.
Damn right. If you claim to be a Democrat, act like one.
Elaine, why should he apologize for telling the truth? Libs hate free speech when you are talking against Obama.
You got it mgb- I am curious as to whether the regulars on these blogs- the ones who claim Democrats to be free thinking, open minded individuals get one here and comment. I suspect they are in the minority, and that most Democrats are exactly like Democrats claim Reupublicans to be- as you suggest- of common mind.
Your honesty is refreshing. It is consistent of what I've always thought of Democrats- ones who get the talking points, and as you suggest- go along with them whether they agree or not.
Gee- it's funny that none of the normal liberals who claim that Dems are open minded and free thinkers have come to mgb's side?
Booker is one person out of 300,000,000 people. Move on President Obama...You guys act like this Booker guy is something special. He's not....As Bulbja above said Booker's political career is over.... Romney has nothing to run on so he sure doesn't want the American people to find out about any of his business dealings which were disasterous for thousands of people. Romney is all about the money people are secondary.
The Dems are so shook up about the truth. Rachael M. had Booker on her show, Obama is talking about it..Wow the truth hurts.. And the one thing I love about this is the Libs can't use their favorite word... RACISM!!!
we (Republicans) love it.
You won't be loving it in November.
@AA-republicon - President Obama talked about it because he was asked a question about it. And he made it quiet clear that Mitt Rmoney's record will be part of the debate in this campaign. There is absolutely noway he will be successful in hiding it or lying about it.
@MJB - The Democrats are upbeat and can't wait to send the out-of-touch and lying vulture capitalist, Mitt Rmoney, to retirement in the luxurious palace he is building along the coast of California.
Why would his political career be over for saying what he thought was best for the people of Newark? I thought the point of electing someone as mayor was putting the person up there that would fight for you. He was worried about his constituents, not the party.
And as for his career ending, last I checked Senator Lieberman still got re-elected AFTER he was kicked out of the Democratic Party.
he was extraordinarily disloyal to the democratic party.
You mean "the people" instead of "the Party?" And as I recall he was asked to leave the Democratic caucus, Obama stood up for him, then he changed his affiliation to Independent rather than play with the people out to crucify him for following his own convictions; not the other way around. He also holds a statewide approval rating to 51% positive to 40% negative. An 11 point swing to the positive says he still represents the will of the people he represents.
Romney has lied time and time again. He is all about money --not people. Stick with it Obama because it is true.
It's not about personality or personal views. It's about policy and potential results. Let them both outline things for the people to judge and work it out in the debates. This isn't about rooting for your favorite sports team, it's about running a nation. Make informed decisions with an open mind instead of being a political zombie.
And if you don't think Obama is just as much of a liar I want to know what color the sky is in your world. All politicians lie. It's pretty much in the job description. You don't get to the most powerful seat in the land being nice. We've had one person that seemed like a legitimately nice guy in the last fifty years that was President and that was Jimmy Carter. We all know what a disaster that was.
Booker is a real loser.
Palm, he was a winner!! Until he got beat back to the Plantation
How much money you got Mayor Hooker for all the garbage you said?
Wow, the foul mouth Libs can turn on you like a rabid dog. Got to love the libs
Et tu Cory?
The tone of the ads are what is "nauseating", as is the distraction of you, and others are generating. Pay attention to what you are doing
Et tu Cory?
Pres. O should have known better when he saw Booker running around in that ad with Christie!! Booker is looking out for his OWN A— _!!!!!!!
Thirty pieces of silver Cory?
I agree 100% with what Mayor Booker said. Negative campaign ads from BOTH sides are nauseating. What is even more nauseating is the hatchet job MSNBC is giving to
Mayor Booker. He is NOT trying to undermine the Obama campaign he is simply speaking the truth that all us intelligent voters feel.
Unfortunately it’s the morons of the population who scream the loudest and try and make some big controversy out of nothing, and today the MSNBC pundits were screaming pretty loud. Sometimes the truth hurts, and Mayor Booker was speaking the truth. Get over it.
Umm...excuse me, but did you just call yourself intelligent??? Maybe you really need to stop trying to bring an end to education, because you sound ridiculous!!!
Cory Booker was flat wrong because he claimed that Private Equity is fundamentally concerned with growing Pensions...but maybe he meant to say Private Equity managers Steal from "some" Pensions to Redistribute them into "other" Pensions...
@2633304 - You are a total ignorant and too lazy to educate yourself. Try at least to go back and listen to President Obama's answer to the question he was asked yesterday at the press-conference about Cory Booked remarks. Mitt Rmoney has been saying for months now that the reason he should be elected POTUS is because of his business savvy, his knowledge on the economy and his jobs creation record. He has attacked, distorted and lie about the president's record and will keep doing it during this campaign. However, he doesn't exactly talk about his record as CEO at Bain Capital, nor as governor of MA. He has failed to make public 10+ years of his tax returns, for the simple reason that he is hiding many appalling things therein. He believes that he can lie his way to the White House. That ain't gonna happen. So, talking about Mitt Rmoney's record in TV ads is absolutely not negative, to the contrary it's informative.
The following links leads to the Rachel Maddow's Show showing Mitt Rmoney getting caught lying about the economy and jobs. You should watch it.

Lakeisha,
Thank you again for proving my point again. It's the trolls like you who throw out exaggerations, if not outright lies, that are causing our entire political system to go down the toilet. Our political system should consist of reasonable, intelligent debate but unfortunately, people like you want it to be more like an episode of Jersey Shores.
Mayor Booker did NOT claim that private equity is fundamentally concerned with growing pensions. That is a complete fabrication on your part to stir up controversy. What he did say is, "I live in a state where pension funds, unions, and other people are investing in companies like Bain Capital". Even Mike Murphy, a REPUBLICAN STRATEGIST agreed that Mayor Booker made a good point about all the negative campaign ads. Yes, yes, I'm sure you're one of those idiots who is going to claim that Booker was paid by the Republicans to say that, or that he is going to switch parties or some other such nonsense.
Perhaps you should pry the beer goggles off, clean the Cheetos dust out of your ears, and watch the MTP episode again with an open mind.
Isn't there something STRANGE about the BOOKER AND CHRISTIE'S commercials. Who's got who's back on that JOKE.
Mary,
that is exactly how i felt about it...i mean what Democrat would seriously trust Christie to handle anything?
What i want to know is what the H*!! is wrong with Corey Booker???who cares about how "nawseating " he gets about this discussion??? This is what Americans want to talk about... And, yeah i know the correct spelling of NAUSEATING, but it was just the contemptuous way he said it that really made my skin crawl...
We all know the ECONOMY is the most important conversation on the table today...and until We can educate People on how to stand against this onslaught of Public Privatization and Corporate Domination and especially after suffering through Bush's Depression!!! This is the conversation We will continue to have...
i was trying to figure out why Booker was featured in a Chris Kristi Ad Campaign...but i can see now that he'll say anything to be re-elected as Newark's Mayor...SOUND FAMILIAR ANYONE!!!
Thank you for proving my point. I just didn't think it would happen this quickly.
Lakeisha, you sound racist to me. You are mocking the way a "Black" man speak. I am so disappointed. Libs are so open minded, love free speech. I thought your party was an open tent.
WOW!!!
and that goes to both of you for attempting to grow brains...if you took anything i have ever said to be racist says more about you than it does me!!!
all i did was say the truth and if i disagree with Republicans, Democrats, Blacks or Hispanics i will state it and i won't be shut-up just because some fool tries to twist my words as racist!!!
if you want to debate the facts fine, but twisting my words and inventing issues is baseless, idiotic psycho-talk!
Keisha you did the mocking not me.
Only my friends call me that!!!Let's keep it formal!
Ok Lakeisha, you did the mocking..not me.
So she's part Indian, they were here first and she should be PROUD, This is PREJUDICE. You go Elizabeth. GOOD LUCK.
If she's really part Native . . . .
I think Cory may have taken in a little poisonous smoke while being a hero (for that I applaude him - Not a one time deal either) He may just want the candidates to play nice and talk about the important topics? Or, maybe he just doesn't really get it? I watched that show and was shocked at a poll that 55% of the pollled said that Romney is BETTER on the economy than the POTUS - HUH? What do people have Amnesia? Are they forgetting we are NOT YET out of the recession that the GOP created, the HUGE obligations they created are still being paid for and Wall St is still playing games. We have a do more than nothing Congress that is swearing to play the default game if they don't get all the CUTS to necessary programs (the "gun to the citizen hostages head" AGAIN) What the F' are 55% of the people listening to and believing? I can't believe they do not realize the travesty and certain demise of our middle class and Democratic government if the GOPTEA is allowed the White House and Senate and not relieved of the Bagger Congress. What is a Democratic Mayor thinking about, Maybe HE'S a CLOSET 1%er? Maybe he can visit Rev. Right for a little "come to Jesus" meeting; Whatever it is he needs a check up from the neck up.
so based on these comments- the definition of freedom of speech that applies to Mayor Booker is that he can express his views so long as they agree with President Obama-otherwise he is to remain silent- just amazing-I believe Bain capital is a legitimate issue- but to challenge the integrity of Mayor Booker (e.g. comments suggesting he was paid to make those comments) go to far-
ST- Team Obama has to be aggressive in going after any Democrat, especially a Black Democrat, who would not be in line. There are tons of people above who witness to this.
Rusty- thanks- I understand the politics or optics of the issue- but that in my view does not justify these attacks to shut him up
ST54..the true colors of the Libs
No one is shutting him up, nor are We advocating that he shut-up...but when you are a top party official bucking your own constituency there is a higher standard that you at least get the facts straight!!!
And, Cory Booker was the one trying to shut us up!!!Claiming that we nauseate him...
Well, he was stating a personal fact. If the Democratic party is making him sick to his stomach, all I can say is "I feel his pain"
Maybe you guys have more in common than you know!!!
Hey, he is seeing the light..And we do have something in common..he is a Black Man, and so am I. So your earlier comment about me being a racist is moot.
I, like Cory, am calling it like I see it. Way to go Cory, You see how quickly your party will turn on you
You could be racist and unsympathetic against your own...just ask Rubio!!!
Wow- I've read quite a few of these blogs and find it interesting that a lib would think Booker hasn't been shut down for free thinking. He's been muzzled. He will only speak from prepared notes approved by Team Obama from this point forward.
I get a little nautious when I hear Romney speak in general, must be I gety airsick on the AIRCRAFT, Really, AIRCRAFT?
Plane is too bourgeoisie for him. He had to say aircraft.
Someone needs to correct Sen. Lautenberg. He stated that the company had 50,000 people employed in 23 countries across America.......really. America has 23 countries???? Wow. Please clarify.
I've got it recorded if you want to try again. He said 23 countries and over 5,000 in his home state.
I think that perhaps Cory Booker is the influential African American person that Tom Ricketts was talking about using to do their dirty work.
Ed, ED, ED, ED............. your emphasis on the harvard professor who claims minority status means nothing. Your guest is right its not relavent . The professor is a woman, which makes her a minority. You ought to take on the Republican senator because why is he bringing it up............Doesn't he know that Women have a minority status that is protected by the civil rights docterine.
Since she asserted Native identity, she has to provide the evidence. That's the law, and you'd think a law professor would know that.
If she's not Native, that's lying and fraud. You'd think a law professor would know that.
If that were the case then tea bagging republicans collecting Koch industry checks for posting on left leaning blogs would be guilty of the same crime that you are accusing Warren of. So stfu and go back to Fox news land where fake outrage happens every 3 minutes.
As a self describe "surrogate" of the Presidents campaign it is unheard of for that individual to criticize his so-called teammates on national TV and undermine the campaign strategy. You won't see the Republicans do that, how idiotic and arrogant of mayor booker to do so. He made statements about his displeasure with negative campaign ad's but focused the majority of his comments on President Obama the person he claims he supports. Yet it's been the Romney campaign which on a per capita basis has put out more negative ads.
In addition he was incorrect in his analysis of equity capital. The president has never criticized equity capital firms, but has drawn a distinction on whether or not Mitt Romney at the helm of Bain Capital focused on job creation which he claims he did or building equity for his investors (which is a more accurate depiction of what his firm does).
seriously- never criticized equity capital - just Bain- that is the new democrat talking point of the day- the President or his "surrogates" never said Bain Capital and companies like them? never generally criticized venture capital companies- right-
@st54,
that is correct...We are criticizing Vulture Capitalism and there's a real difference!!!
Ventures go out to invest; Where as Vultures come to extract!!!
