Yes. Not only stricter regulations must be done but also a safety net for the public money by forcing bank to put away money in case such disaster takes place must be enforced. In addition to that a cap in CEOs salaries and bonuses must be made.
The lack of strict regulation is a danger to the economy of this country.
I would also like to hear President Obama say he will leave no stone unturned in his efforts to see the Wall Street Bankers who caused the Great Recession prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
David no wonder why they a shaking in their vaults! What more rules and regulation OMG it would kill jobs!!!
Yes, Of course. Wouldn't hurt to start enforcing the laws we have, either.
How about prosecuting some of these white collar criminals, as well, before Romney gets in (God forbid) and deregulates them even further. Then they could plunder the entire country together with no fear of reprisal.
You can go to jail for a joint in your car, but rape the taxpayers and destroy the economy and it's, "Tsk., tsk., don't fret, boys, we'll bail you out."
What ever happened to personal responsibility?
Just received an email push poll from my rubber stamp republican representative wanting confirmation that deregulation is the best way to fix American problems.
Between the theocratic red herrings and the further deregulation of all republican corporatist owners, MANY regulations need to be brought into play. Our President needs more cooperation from other politicians to get things done...which ain't happening.
That is only for democrats and the democratic base, IOKIYAR.
Sen 3132419, Yes, exactly, and high time. They're laughing at us as they collect those big bonuses.
They take us for just what we are: suckers. And if anybody thinks they'll just develop a conscience, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
They are saying "you are letting us do this" out of one side of their mouth, then saying let the market take care of everything, the government should let us do our thing, but then say "if we screw up, the FDIC covers us, right"?
INDIA - That's why I don't invest in the stock market because they make money off of me even if I was to go BUST.How much of your money do you think they are actually putting in their pockets before everything does go BUST ?
Hi Ted, we pulled out in the nick of time. I'm sure they'd have no lost sleep over taking it all.
I'd lose a bit, though. LOL I don't like those rough rides! I got off that horse before it threw me.
All right now INDIA,what did you do to the horse this time ? Did you show it a picture of sMITT ROMNEY or someone just as STUPID as him again ?
LOL Ted. I let it hear a recording of Mitt singing. He reared!
INDIA - You mean to tell me that your horse didn't PUKE its guts out if not go DEAF just from hearing him ? You better watch it or I will get you for HORSE ABUSE.
@Sen-3132419, RE:
While I'd like to see a Cap on CEO (as well as other Execs) salaries and bonuses, that is not for government to do. Rather, that is well within the Shareholders' "Job Description." Unfortunately, there are far too many Shareholders who abdicate the power of their votes and allow others to vote in lieu of the respective Shareholders, but not necessarily in the best interests of said Shareholders.
Unless & until a sufficient percentage of Shareholders vote each of their Shares in their own respective interests in person (or by Proxy as they so designate), Caps on Executive Salaries, (Perks,) and Bonuses will be primarily controlled by said Executives for their own benefit.
Hi Sen!
Who would hold the worthless money on account?
India 1.8 : I agree.
Cosmic 1.15 : That's why we need to change.
Kathe 1.16 : I understand your feelings.
WE NEED TO CONTROL MORE.
It was primarily the banks lending practices that got us in this economic mess in the first place, of course he should.
But banks are people my friends.
Indeed so and I for one do not want any capitalist in the nations Capital.
Someone should ask romney, do corporations in themselves have a brain, a heart and a soul that they were BORN with? And were they conceived the same way as the rest of us were?
That might make romney stop and think for once. It may also shut him up for a little while trying to figure that one out.
Judy do you really think Romney has a soul?
Judy, I think you're giving Mittens a wee bit too much credit. He doesn't stop lying long enough to think!
fore hey look out:#3 A maximum wage! Now that's not a bad idea!
JUDY W. - Lets not forget that he doesn't have a BRAIN to think with either.
Ted, Or a conscience to bother him.
India and ted , he is addicted to wealth also !!!
INDIA - He doesn't even have a sub-conscience either.
PAM - Lets hope he goes BUST along with those STUPID wall street banks.
We can't afford to bail them out again. Damned CEO's making 10's of millions of dollars a year. Sometimes I think there should be a maximum wage to go along with the minimum wage.
As long as the banks are depending on our government to stay afloat, why not have a maximum wage limit for upper management.
A Maximum-wage makes me laugh but I think it is a good idea.
FRANK IN DETROIT - You figure when you apply for a job they state what the pay range would be.Why not the same for those STUPID CEO's that drive their company into the ground ?
Ted, I like it! Let's call it, "The Greed Ceiling".
India, I sure like that. Rules with consequences for risk taken to bring panic to the public sector. We must petition till the cows come home to reinstate Glass Ste gal. They should be put on list and made public like sex offenders.
INDIA - I forgot to mention NO BONUS' either, flat out straight salary.
Ted, and by gosh, we won't give 'em any of our food stamps, either! LOL
INDIA - Lets not forget to REFUSE him any UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS either since he never paid into it for himself.
The ratio of highest paid to lowest paid in a business has become obscene over the years. I once found myself in management of a business that employed about 50 people. I leveled that ratio considerably. The working environment improved dramatically which led to better costumer service and better sales. With about the same total payroll everything improved.
Absolutely, especially in light of this latest incident with Chase.
banks are ppl but for some reason they like to rip ppl off also
Kevin remember Romney "Corporations are people too"?
I guess if you have to explain it's not funny.
Of course, the President should campaign on this banking issue. It's Obama's moment to apply the full nelson in this match for the Presidency. We're going to make a judges' decision that crown's the winner in another rigged competition.
Was listening to Megyn Kelly this morning. There was an interview with the Tea Party 365 founder who made a statement about what Capitalism is and what the Ledbetter Act interferes with:
"It is the evaluation that is what the free market is about. Not to be something legislated by the Government."
I can be in agreement with that in a just World and economy of "old school" Capitalism....."real" Capitalism per Gingrich.
If corporations are people too, I'll believe that when the Justice system recognizes this too about any corporation by arresting, convicting for grand larceny on several counts and sentencing to a lifetime in real prison for corporations......not just regulations. That's when I will believe the Citizens Un-tied" decision.
Just couldn't help myself - thanks, stupidita!
I have to say YES of course but the GOP Tea Baggers block everything he tries and that goes right along with their type of thinking MAKE OBAMA A ONE TERM PRESIDENT and they don't give a dam who they step on in the way!
If you want to get the attention of a REPUBLICAN get a dog whistle or a flip through a stack of federal reserve notes!
Petition to the DNC to get their act together!
http://signon.org/sign/democratic-national-committe?source=mo&id=41481-22933505-Xoumi3x
The United States is becoming a plutocracy and it started when the Tea Party young republicans decided on inauguration day that President Obama would not be a success even at the expense of the citizens of the United States.
XXX OOO, They need a thrashing out behind the woodshed. They and Boner have with there greed will bring this nation to collapse and they will be like vultures over the spoils. This is so like the last debacle it is not funny.
XXX OOO, I signed the petition . thanks for posting this i also called today!!!
Let's make President Obama a two term president and make the baggers one termers instead.
xxx ooo - I also signed the petition. Now will anything really get accomplished from it,who knows ?
While Obama wants banks more discrete,
The House with their cash is replete...
While Boehner keeps ramblin',
The banks, they keep gamblin'...
They can't stop, their addiction's complete...
David, Ditto this one! They are for money and more money. They want to push the envelope to the limit and they do. They need to join gamblers I need help club or something!
Mitt Romney wants the public to forget
That Republicans caused all the debt...
While they break all the rules,
They would take us for fools...
In the Fall, they will fall with no net...
The banks don't regret what they started,
Their apologies come off half-hearted...
Their addiction's synonomous
With Gamblers Anonymous...
A fool and his money are soon parted...
Nice one!
What the republicans thinkin I must say its stinkin As the economy sinkin In November an end to this terrorist threat!
When the banks started out to malfunction,
Government would help out at that junction...
We'll continue to bail
'Cause they're "too big to fail",
The taxpayers enable their dysfunction...
David those are so great. I do believe the Republican party is heartless and clueless. They have became a party of stone and I guess they think Romney will come bearing the Midas touch !!!! Maybe he has the golden goose !!
You should make a book of these, and you could call it LIMERICKS FOR LIBERALS!
Mitt Romney continues to deride us,
While his tax forms, refuses to provide us...
While Republicans claim
We'll be shouting his name,
You should never shake hands with King Midas...
David, You are simply mavelous darling ! For get movie that's from. I wonder what would happen to Romney if by some fluke like last depression he lost everything ? He will be poor as a church mouse one day when our time is up here on earth. I wonder who's richer a poor man or who's poorer a rich man?
Pam...
Actually, King Midas isn't from a movie, although he's been in quite a few...
Midas is from ancient Greek mythology, used as a lesson against Greed...
After saving the right-hand satyr of the God of the Feast and Wine, Midas appealed to Dionysus for more wealth, and he granted his wish... When his daughter ran to his arms, he killed her... Then he found out there's a price to having everything you touch turn to gold... Food turned to gold as he ate...

Absolutely, Positively, Without A Dout.... "YES" Stop the Right Wing Radical Fringe Extremists of the GOP/TEA'D OFF Party from Destroying this country!
yes there needs to be regulations and yes we need to keep the repukes out of office
Billie , I 100% agree with you. I do not want the thieving crooks to have the keys to the candy store. How many more banks are on the brink? There has to be laws and rules set in place tp protect us from those who do this.
agree with you guys. pam, read you're recovering from surgery. hope you have a speedy recovery.
Kv6707, Thank you so much. Do you feel like we are watching a remake of the last casino gone wild again ?
that's it, pam. running casinos ( big banks ) with money that doesn't belong to them. then taking in the winnings while the country suffers.
Kv, Dejavu!!!!! Just as last time they KNEW and They Know they are taking risk! The citizen ship thing I heard they were going to do with big business awhile back when Leslie Stall on 60 Minutes reported on followed the money. Profit people this is the game and bedamed America. He is only the first to denounce citizenship you will see a wave of them leaving. They love Money and only money !!!!
PAM - I don't see why we just don't let them go BUST !!!!!! That's the only they are going to learn anything,if at all.If they don't learn from it, TOO BAD !!!!!!!!
Ted, I will all ways believe Wall Street should crashed. We the people were the causalities and they just continued to be arrogant self serving nim come poops !
Now,now PAM.You don't have to be too polite about it now.I'll let you get away with CUTTING them down harder than that.
i know if i had billions of dollars ,i would help sick kids, help feed the poor and maybe start a business of my own.and i would pay my fair share in taxes
Well, you're not a Republican, which to them, explains why you're not rich...
The problem with that is the republicans who post here think they will be rich beyond their wildest dreams, by playing a stock market game where they are worth more on paper then they are in life, they just haven't tried cashing in on their paper wealth yet. I wonder if we will hear their heads explode when they find out they been had.
That is the difference between Democratic Finance or Government and Republican. With Democrats they feel that Government should function for all the people and the Country.Republican believe that government should expand the Military to send your sons and daughters off to fight in Wars to protect their Financial Interest, while keeping their kids safe at home, heck your kids need the money theirs don't.
Republican plan for jobs...Start a war start the draft and people will have jobs at home and over seas. From the Mortuary and the Headstone maker the flag company and the cemetery. And we have more job openings too for obvious reasons.
xxx ooo - Unfortunately that is true. The ones we ought to send out to war are the ones who got us into it to begin with. Hopefully they would get SHOT dead and we wouldn't have to put up with them anymore.
I would have to say YES because it would show that President Obama is on the side of Main St. and not Wall St.
I would like to know if someone benefited from the JP Morgan $2 billion dollar loss.
If the date, September 18th, 2008 doesn't ring a bell in the minds of Americans, they're just not paying attention.
That lack of attention could elect Mitt Romney, and if so, it will surely be worse next time.
Remember, remember the 18th of September.
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/america-bankrupt-banks-inside-meltdown/
Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Try to remember that time in September....it will be so much worse next time.
What they need to do is break up some of the larger banks . They are too big and do not lend money to people who want to start a business.
Why not just let them go BUST ? That would be the best thing for our national budget since we wouldn't have to BAIL them out.
Unfortunately, a lot of people and pension funds have stock in those banks... They have a financial interest in keeping the banks alive...
You'd think the investors would have divested those stocks after the first two bailouts, but those pension funds are controlled by the same Wall Street brokers who control the banks...
For many of us it is our money they are gambling with, and we have entrusted it to them. Remember the movie with Jimmy Stewart when everyone was trying to take their Money out of the bank and he was trying to talk them out of panic. Here we are. Some of us can not take our money out because it is tied up in our retirement.
Drag out the Vulture Chart ED......Please.
http://ed.msnbc.msn.com/vulture-capitalism
What happened a J. P. Morgan shows more regulation is needed.
Ed, JPMorgan lost nothing, the people's 401 accounts lost. I firmly believe they will continue to do this type of things to keep robbing the public, just as the banks did.
Hello????? What part of the people's voice has not been clear here? The march on Wall Street? The May Day Protests? The Occupy Movement? Why in the world is this question still being asked? My best, best guess- if O'Bama does not make this a front and center priority issue, along with overturning Citizens United, he will not be getting the support he needs to win this election. This issue is not a maybe it is a must. The 99 percent movement is not going to accept a middle line on this- and then what? The rest of us are going to be stuck with Romney? I hope EVERYONE is gearing up for the end of the world here. O'Bama needs to stand up to the Republicans and STOP the TRICKLE UP, he needs to do that yesterday.
It would be absurd to NOT vote for Obama when the alternative is a crooked elitist who stores his money offshore and in Switzerland in order to avoid paying taxes that would support the U.S.
How insane it would be to vote for a traitorous egomaniac to punish Obama who has been held down by a republican house of representatives. Get rid of the party of "NO to everything" and see how fast things turn around.
Vote Dems and clean out the house.
Yes. Look these idiots keep gambling and gambling our money. I thought that law passed to to stop all this? I bet the big boss is still going to pay himself 3 trillion dollars. I wonder if this was there own money would they still be making all these big risk? Dam it I can't believe this kaka.
The repubs water the law down so it's not doing anything and the Stock holders gave him his salery an d bonus.
Although stricter banking regulations are absolutely necessary, I don't think wise to make it a campaign issue. Not at this late date. The republicans would spin it to no end. As I understand it, only 30% of the Dodd/Frank provisions have been enacted. Getting this law fully implemented and firming up the Volcker rule would be a tough enough row to hoe.
1. Regulate
2. Break up the conglomerates
3. Prosecute those in charge who caused the failures in 2008
Anything less will result in the same thing happening again. Let MIITEN gain the White House and we will have a depression worse than the one in the 30's.
Absolutely, it should be a campaign issue.
Talk about out of touch...Willard is already stumping with a message about less regulations.
We bailed their asses? Chingow putos.
