Michele Bachmann claims she loves freedom and liberty, yet she filed papers to become a citizen of Switzerland. Ed Schultz tries to make sense of it.
BREAKING: After reports that she had become a citizen of Switzerland Tuesday night, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has contacted the Swiss Consulate to withdrawal her dual Swiss citizenship.
The Minnesota Republican issued a statement today saying she had sent a letter to the Swiss Consulate asking for withdrawal of her Swiss citizenship. She says she did so "because I want to make it perfectly clear: I was born in America and I am a proud American citizen. I am, and always have been, 100 percent committed to our United States Constitution and the United States of America."
Bachmann has said she automatically became a dual citizen of the U.S. and Switzerland in 1978 when she married her husband, Marcus, and that her family just recently updated its documents because some of their children wanted dual citizenship.
Yesterday, we imagined what Bachmann would've said if the Obamas had sought dual citizenship with Kenya or a European socialist nation.
Bachmann is seeking re-election from Minnesota's 6th Congressional District following her failed run for the Republican presidential nomination.

It seems Michelle Bachmann couldn't handle the pressure of being a resident of two countries. And if she was so loving to her country, then she wouldn't be always trying to question President Obama, she'd be trying to help him but she's not, because she only cares about the 1% that are wealthy and not the struggling 99%. Hmmm...who does that remind me of...oh yeah Mitt Romney.
I don't see why Michele Bachmann is making such a fuss over it. If it was conferred upon her due to her marriage, then so be it. Or perhaps she realized that as a Swiss citizen she would be using Switzerland's almost-20-year-old system of healthcare, which was the precursor to Obamacare? And here I thought Romney was the reigning Flip-Flop Monarch...
Also, she is well aware that gay rights are normal in Switzerland. Pardon me - she does not know American history, who could blame her for not knowing Swiss history!!!

Let's just say it, SOCIALISM. Everyone knows the Swiss is socialist in there views and not communist which for some reason people like her are constantly trying to hammer the President about. But yet the woman continues to call Him {Obama) a socialist, very interesting. When the news broke about this, all that she hatred she spewed came right back to her lap!
funny how she, who enjoys the benefits of government paid for health care and government funded farm subsidies for family farm and medicaid patients for her hubby , would decry against socialism so much...seems like the loudest are always the most guilty.....
Sounds to me like she caught hell with the far right. And as usual she is pandering to them and then using her families military service to show what a good American she is. Nevermind, about the past 34 years, when she enjoyed dual citizenship and has taken many trips to her husbands homeland. And that up until today she has served in the House of Representatives as a duel citizen. I think that the tea party, as soon as this came to light, jumped all over her to denounce her dual citizenship and pledge her allegiance to this and only this country. To hell with her husband and her children who either have dual citizenship or want it. Only thing her actions prove to me is that she cares more about her political career and to those whom she has sided with, than she does her husband and children and their ancestry. All of us, unless we are Native American or Mexican, came to this country when our relatives immigrated here. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage and to acknowledge those countries from where we came. If anything, she comes across as more of a hypocrite than ever. Not to mention that apparently she's been lying to her husband all this time about being proud of his his heritage. Hopefully, she will be voted out of office this time around and goes back to the family farm.

My best friend's daughter went to Switzerland (Interlaken) 2 years ago with a college class. Apparently the Swiss think Americans are loud and brash and not very well mannered.
I cannot imagine Bachmann's letter proclaiming she wants to dismiss her Swiss citizenship to be only American helped their opinion of us.
But then again, they don't know how lucky they are.
Did she not run for President? I thought and was taught that only US citizens could run for president. And you could not run if you held a citizenship of another country. Is it not against the law?

Take a look at the Constitution of Switzerland. See all of the "goofy, liberal ideas" she would be agreeing to: equal pay for equal work, non-discrimination against people on the basis of lifestyle or any other factor, sustainability, protection of diversity, etc. They're all right there, locked into the nation's governing document.
Pay special attention to Title 2, Chapter 1, Articles 2, 7, 8, 12, 20, and 28 (oh, how the Republicans would hate Article 28).
She cannot be a US President cadidate again as she is half American. Being half American she should not be a member of US Senate and Congress. We cannot trust her other Non-US half what it is doing, moreover no one trust her US-half either; She should be deported to Switzerland to Learn what is good for people like education, healthcare, equal Rights for ALL. Like Taxing the rich to 80% and helping childern in need, home for homeless, shelter for childerns in need and for disabled. If she refuses deportation to Switzerland then she should either be confined to her husband Medicaid clinic or to her State and federally Subsidized farm. Or she can be a citizen of Capatilist/Communist China or Capatilist/communist/Socialist /Mafia Russia; She broke the US Law, being Dual citizen and running for president. What a sad comment. She only withdrew her request after she was found out! Would be funny if so many didn't believe what she is trying to blow up our rears now. Her original request couldn't have anything to do with taxes, could it?
