Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN) in an exclusive Interview with Swiss TV on gaining Swiss citizenship.
Months after she dropped out of the Republican race for the White House, Tea Party favorite Michele Bachmann has become a Swiss citizen.
Bachmann's spokeswoman Becky Rogness says the congresswoman was eligible for dual citizenship since she married her husband of Swiss descent in 1978.
Rogness tells Minnesota Public Radio some of the couple's children wanted to exercise their eligibility for dual citizenship, so they went through the process as a family.
All very nice, of course, except what would Bachmann had said if the Obamas had sought dual citizenship with Kenya or a European socialist nation?
Here's a hint from 2008 when Bachmann said she wished the "American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out if they are pro-America or anti-America."

And Bachmann has been one of the most fanatical opponents of President Obama's health care law. So what does this say about her anti-socialist creditentials? After all, Swiss citizens are required by their government to buy insurance, which is subsidized by the government, which, as Bachmann has pointed out before, is SOCIALISM!
Michele Bachmann told members of the House of Representatives that, "Obamacare is the crown jewel of socialism... We won't stop until we repeal this president."
Bachmann is seeking re-election from Minnesota's 6th Congressional District following her failed run for the Republican presidential nomination.

If you talk the talk, you have to walk the walk. It seems to me, given Bachmann's extreme conservative position, she would burst into flames just by crossing the border into Switzerland. Obviously, I am mistaken.
It would be good for the people in her district and the rest of the Country if she just pulled stakes, went to Switzerland and stayed there!
I hope it is enough the people of her district will wake up and get rid of her.

Bachmann can spin any tale to have secret accounts. What the hell, she can even figure out and pass the hints to fellow reps on how to get campaign money and move it to swiss accounts.
Plus with the threat of supreme court nullifying obamacare, she does have healthcare for her and future generations freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Yeah...this is all too funny. I think that somebody is going to be moving some major money into Swiss accounts. Cause right now, the Swiss government had received so much pressure from the government that they gave over the names of people who had accounts there. Now, if she is considered a Swiss citizen, the US govt can't touch her money..you can think something else if you want to, but for a person who was so proclaim American and patriotic, doesn't seem quite right to dual citizen, especially in a country that does not share any of your beliefs.

Politico is now reporting that she has actually held Swiss citizenship since 1978. Doesn't this make her ineligible to serve on the Select Committee on Intelligence? Wasn't she required to divulge her dual citizenship to get the clearances required to serve on that committee?
Watch as the hypocritical Tea Partiers try to dismiss this as a non issue.

After reaching the state of high costs that currently we are experiencing in this country, the Swiss government revamped their healthcare system in 1994. The new law mandated that all Swiss residents, citizens and ex-patriots, must carry healthcare insurance.
The premiums are born solely by the policy holder; employers are not involved whatsoever. It's true that there is some subsidy by the government; however, those chosen for that assistance must prove their inability to pay for such premiums. Most policy holders pay with their own funds.
If that's Socialism, then I suppose we were Socialists in this country long before Obama's Healthcare Plan was introduced, since no one in need of healthcare can be turned away from emergency room care. Those hospitals, who cannot collect their receivables, are subsidized by the government via tax credits and/or by charging everyone else outrageous prices to lessen their loss. Either way, we premium-payers are debited eventually.
The flawed reasoning that accuses the Swiss of socialism doesn't hold up. The income taxes in the EU are (50-70%); hence, it is much easier to justify their socialist label. The Swiss employ the Parliamentary model of government and their income taxes are about the same as ours. For those of you, who don't know, Switzerland is NOT in the EU.
Only ignorance would cause anyone to accuse a dual-citizenship holder (which is legal in this country, BTW) and who principally lives in the US, as unAmerican or unpatriotic. I'm no fan of Michele Bachmann by any means, but this row is much ado about nothing.
Swiss Banks are world famous for their secrecy. Is it possible that the family's dual citizenship is a way to hide taxable income? Or possibly assests that might be politically embarassing, but then again Ms Bachmann makes statements that should incredibly embarassing without batting an eye.
