Never mind this column he wrote when the US auto industry was on its knees, now Mitt Romney is taking credit and a victory lap for President Obama's policy. Politico's Maggie Haberman and NYMag's John Heilemann join Hardball.
Ed is back in New York tonight and he's got a really packed show!
Mitt Romney has reached another all-time low -- lying to the American people about his opposition to the auto loan. Tonight, Ed will end any doubt about Romney’s lie with Howard Fineman, NBC News Political Analyst and Editorial Director of the Huffington Post Media Group.
History is being made in Wisconsin today as Democrats choose a candidate to run against Gov. Scott Walker in the June 5 recall election. John Nichols, Washington Correspondent of The Nation, joins Ed for the latest news on the state's historic recall primary. (John will also be back at 11pET for Ed’s live update on the results).
Senate Republicans defy the will of the people and vote to double interest rates on student loans. And the Catholic Bishops send another letter to House Republicans about their war on the poor. Howard Dean, former Democratic National Committee Chairman, former presidential candidate and the Founder of Democracy for America, will weigh in.
Manufacturing jobs are coming back, but now we need the workers. Leo Gerard, United Steel Workers International President, talks about Obama's plan to train skilled laborers.
Congressman Rick Berg is running for U.S. Senate in North Dakota. He's rich beyond belief but he has no idea what the minimum wage is. Ed’s got the video to prove that some fat cats in Congress have no clue what it’s like in the real world.
And in the big Finish, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is slashing his state's education budget and attacking teachers. But why aren't teachers speaking out? You won’t want to miss Ed’s commentary and analysis from Ruth Conniff, Political Editor of The Progressive Magazine.
It's going to be yet another packed @EdShow at 8pET on @msnbctv.
Join the conversation now or during the show by commenting on Facebook and/or tweeting (with the #edshow hashtag) so we can share your thoughts on the show.
The @TweetTron9k is powering up the circuits to put yer tweets on the teevee!

Romney saved the auto industry like the iceberg saved the Titanic.
Remember the GOP voting down the Obama stimulus, saying to the press in DC that the stimulus wouldn't create 1 job then going back to their home districts to do photo ops for the local press at job sites the stimulus created and saying hey look at all these jobs our stimulus dollars created, like it was their Ideal for stimulus not Obama's which they then whined about because someone outed them for taking credit when fact was they voted against it. That is the GOP in a nut shell destroy everything blame democrats then take credit for the things democrats do.
And thus it shall always be! They HAVE to steal from us because they have no credible ideas of their own. LOL
Then we get the usual tea bagging republican nonsense about the Keystone scam.
..Or a teabagger that can not understand how a graph works, like the graph that shows 24 months of continuous job growth.
If a government exists it must spend money to survive unless that nation's governance is slave labor.....so yes it just not a reality. Every single republican plan fails effectively shrink the defecit. And on the money people on the right and left will in time remember the money we are talking about owing does not exist anywhere but our imagination. It is not backed by any actual thing in the world, it runs on belief not actual quantities. So this means that technically we can owe nothing very simply by destroying the idiotic current world banking authority and replacing that with a system that uses objects to back its money. Furthermore the regulations on the financial sector will need to be enforced otherwise there's no point. The enterangling of the economies of various nations should also be addressed, when a nation like Greece which hasn't contributed anything to western society in a thousand years can have international impact you know the system's illogical. We need global trade laws and strict enforcement because the chinese are not going to stop cheating unless we demand with the combined strength of the international community the same communities they've been cheating for years.
Under Obama half the keystone pipeline is under construction so those low quality temporary construction jobs will help in a rather miniscule. A lot of these workers are migrants who show up the build the thing and go. Very few jobs would be added to build it and those jobs are temporary as well. The pipeline will not lower gas prices there is absolutely no supply problem for oil or gas. Domestic drilling has gone up for years and gas prices have consistently not followed. Wake up and the smell the roses these companies and nations like Saudi Arabia purposeful hold hundreds of thousands of barrells off the market to drive up prices. I repeat there is no supply problem. Drilling is up, prices are in fact up. More drilling in the gulf at levels greater than before the bp disaster, yes more deeper water drilling at levels higher than before the spill. Prices still on up. By the idiotic transitive property of politics guess we could argue that since prices have gone up and drilling has too that we should drill less. lol
Manufacturing is adding jobs at sizable highs not seen in years
Have you met Mitt Romney? Mitt's policies will make outsourcing easier.
You can argue the economy is not going fast enough however there is no way one can say the economy is getting worse if one actually knows the definition of "worse". Ten jobs added would not be "worse", again you can argue it's not moving quick enough but we are not worse. Were that the case than there would be lay offs and firings expanding in the private sector, they are not. That is reserved for the public sector which because of the GOP laid off teachers, firefighters, and numerous other public sector workers. The public sector is losing jobs the private sector is not. Had the tea party not decided all these vital and useful services had to go the economy would be alot better. Republicans have fired many public sector jobs and defunded public education. They are the job killers.
The GOP whined and bitched about how there were being treated when the democrats had control of congress so jolks decided to give them another chance after they promised to work on fiscal as oposed to historically republican divisionary issues. They got the power they asked for they have done nothing to make use of it.
i might be a little off topic but everyone is talking about the fund raiser tonight for the pres. but nothing about the fund raiser for mitty by that 24 hour pill man
Ed, as a teacher, we have been SHOUTING out our anger and frustration at the horrible ed policy coming from Washington and the statehouses. We are appalled at the private takeover (Philadelphia is a great example) of public education. We have rallied in DC, occupied the Department of Ed, and held countless marches and rallies in our cities and towns. We have written letters, editorials, and spoken to local, state, and federal representatives. But no one hears.
Your show is one of the few who has even touched upon the corporate takeover of education. Please go deeper! Look at the elites in business who are profiting massively off the handover of public education whether through charter school operators, textbook companies making millions (see Pearson), and the push to demonize our nation's teachers as a thinly-veiled attempt to break some of the few strong unions left.
Ed, please speak up for us teachers! Corporate ed reform is crippling schools. Teachers are fleeing this much maligned profession. And our students, the kids we love and sacrifice for each day, are the ones who are ultimately going to suffer the most.
Shouldn't you get an education before whining about education, I mean really it isn't the teachers fault you spent so much time on the corner stool wearing the traffic cone hat that had the letters

running down the front of it.
I always find it hilarious that Whom will make derogatory comments towards other people about their intelligence and education when he is not capable of constructing a properly formatted sentence himself. If he is an example of a government run education system, home schooling should be mandatory for every citizen.
Romney can save his lying breath for someone else!
Who will Mitt Romney get to bail him out because he's morally bankrupt!
Mitt wants to take credit WOW doesn't he want to spend anything of his own?
Mitt is without a doubt the GREATEST fabricator in the USA! That's what I will give him credit for!
Whats next for this guy? "I gave the order to kill Usama bin Laden"
The Jews are Mitt Romney's chosen people! Sure why not!!!
He dropped the A-Bomb on Japan!!
Invented sliced bread!
One thing in my mind is that he sure can take credit for is the re-election of Obama!
And dont forget he created the garden of eden.
Vetted info is the key to informed choices.
GOP must be taking a lot of ex-lax since it's such a strain to endorse Willard.
a shoe is better than President Obama. West Virgina Democrats proved that when 1/3 of them voted for a Texas prisoner over President Obama yesterday. Yea you guys know what your talking about. Have you looked at the voting results anywhere in the US over the last 2 years.
In a time not so long ago as I'm sure you knew
GM was going down and didn't know what to do
Millions of jobs they said would go away
Unless they could find someone to pay
They up and down, high and low
But not one financier could be found and they said "oh no"
But lucky just then, governor romney came riding in
Mitt wrote down his perfect solution to save the american auto institution
Let detroit go broke the governor proudly said
If the fed writes them a check they shall surely be dead
But then just in time they had a deal they could reach
A bailout to save Gm's financial breach
It took guts to agree to and for folks to sign it
but without it GM today? You wouldn't find it
So governor romney how did they use your advice
You said let them die not once but twice
So why governor do you deserve credit
Reality is something you can't go back and edit
LOL talk about misinformed. Guess you forgot the Prescott Bush sold Nazi Germany steel while US military was dying on Omaha Beach. Don't go throwing rocks in your glass house. Well for starters Romney is a tax evader just like Al Capone.
Slack- as one not likely to vote for President Obama- I was shocked that Romney would make such statements- at first I thought he was misquoted- so I listened to the interview and he wasn't. This auto thing is a loser for Romney and he needs to let it go. Not suggesting that the "bailout" was a good thing given how the normal bankruptcy process was distorted in both GM and Chrysler (i.e no plan, creditors not allowed to vote etc).
Or that the facts get distorted. CC suggests above that no private money showed up pre bankruptcy to save GM which is likely true since that is not how the process works for companies like GM. Private money would not show outside of a bky process for lots of reasons (e.g. no ability to obtain senior debt status, no ability to modify union contracts etc) However it is done and time to move on.
What do you expect?
Mitt Romney took the Republican Oath:
I swear to tell the half truth, half of the whole truth, and nothing but the half truth so help me the corporate god, Money.
But in this case Romney broke his oath, again. Romney has told so many lies he can’t keep his stories (better known as lies) straight.
Then Romney claims to be a ‘Great American Patriot’ by keeping his ill gotten money outside of the country. And he wants to be president, give me a break.
Mitt Romney could claim credit for the landing on the moon and the sad reality is that half the country would believe him. Our nation unfortunately has now become so accustomed to the common lie that it has become second nature to us. The truth has never or ever will be good enough to root out an ideology that's infected with denial. Never mind a ditch, this congress is taking us straight towards a deep canyon, and all that's missing is the drunk driver in Mitt Romney to drive us all down that canyon.
Mitt Romney is making me sicker with every passing day he tells a new lie, AND PEOPLE BELIEVE HIM. I don't get it.....Well actually I do. People believe what they want to believe, not what makes logical sense. I used to have respect for republicans before they went overboard.
Mitt Romney is as sleazy as they come.
I Remember a cartoon charactor by the name of Commander McBragg an old English gentleman that smoked a pipe and his experience always ended with him being the hero .....McBragg uses extraordinary means to extract himself from inescapable situations, so extraordinary, in fact, that even his animated listeners find him hard to believe. When his veracity is questioned, McBragg is unfazed. He simply clears his throat and mutters again.. "Quite.. Is this guy Romney or what !!
Isn’t it fascinating watching a table full of cable news elitist, silver spoons voicing their opinions about EVERYTHING… with no solutions. “Ask them about gay marriage to make news…”, said one silver spoon peon on Morning Joe (5-7-12) and later Chris Mathews and peon breathlessly reporting on Joe Biden comments about gay marriage. OK, here’s the real news about gay issues… VOTE for Obama/Biden and be respected.. OR don’t vote or vote for a 3rd Party candidate in this tight election then Republicans win and the LGBT community will be sent off to re-education camps to have the gay beat out of them.
Do you people know the Obama/Biden Administration has more important issues to work on?
I was wondering, have any of the news punditry has experienced the pain and suffering of 48 MILLION Americans struggling below the poverty level? Did any of lose your job, home, investments or retirement because another bunch of silver spoon, trust fund babies needed MORE MONEY? I call MSNBC line-up elitists because you dismiss the true radical thinkers like we’re not worth listening to. CHANGE is more than a word to us.
I’m only wondering because almost NOTHING you people are saying makes any sense to me. Why is no one discussing the root of ALL our problems or planning strategy to SOLVE the grand failures/mistakes of the Bush/Cheney disaster. It’s that 18-32% of Conservative inbred, racist, dead-neck, holier-than-thou, ignorant degenerates who voted for Bush/Cheney that make race and gay rights an issue. If we could get rid of them the USA would be a f***’n Utopia, lol.
Of course who cares what I think, right. I’m only an ordinary serious political activist/community organizer who spent half my live volunteering precious time for the GOOD FIGHT!
Come on, any Progressive knows what he “good fight” is, right? You so-called news people do opinion segments after opinion segments, week after week exposing the news EVERY LEFT WINGER WITH A HALF A BRAIN ALREADY KNOWS!
I don’t need to read a book on the “Republican Brain”. I already know they’re f***ed up. How else does anyone explain the Bush/Cheney nightmare? Y’know… read it on the blog cyberbitchslap2.blogspot.com.
“As far as I’m concerned, after the Bush/Cheney disaster, the Republican Party is dead to me. The results of Bush/Cheney and the Republican controlled Congress (1994-2006) speak for themselves. Waste, fraud, abuse of power, scandal, corruption, media consolidation, sexual deviancy, welfare for the rich, soldiers getting electrocuted in showers, arms dealing, environmental deregulation, war profiteering, Constitutional violations and a corporate crime wave of epic proportions. The greatest looting of a nation’s wealth & resources in the history of mankind…”
And even with all that legitimate evidence not one of your expert punditry has the courage to talk about fighting back. Not only do Liberal spokespersons refuse to fight back but they make light or criticize those who DO! (NOTE: look at how the mainstream and liberal news media reported on the violence by Seattle anarchists)
Centristism or Pacifism is for diplomats and cowards. Look at that “No Labels” @$$hole, who used to work for Bush Jr. Here’s a smart Republican that knows his people f***ed up BIG-TIME… so he wants to deflect the righteous anger of the LEFT wing and sing cumbayha. He’s smart enough to know there’s 5 to 10 MILLION angry Progressives who want total destruction of the Republican Corporate Ho Party and Dick Cheney’s/Donald Rumsfeld’s heads on a stake.
For anyone in-the-know (experienced) IT’S SCARY AS **** OUT THERE! You ****’n elitist Liberals refuse to fight back in a way the matters. When are you pussies going to finally decide to fight… when the Control by Authority crowd is marching your families to the ovens? The Conservative wackos are well-armed and have friends in high military places. (search out the Aryan/Christian military web sties… scary)
I thought what the Powers that Be” did to me WAY BACK in 2000 at the Democratic National Convention in LA wasn’t possible in the USA, but it’s gotten much worse since 9/11. BE AFRAID mofo’s… Everyone who experienced these type Constitutional violations are in the fight.

Mitt reminds me of Sylvester the cat. Doesn't that photo of Mitt look like he's holding tweety bird in his mouth?
I would like to miit and his wife live on 1300.00 a month on social security and im just now gonna get my medicare next month with the fear of loosing it all if he is elected...becuase as he said, "hes not woried about the poor people"
