Of course he does, I guess I have hear the question explained further.
He has as much a right to run on his National Security record as the GOP has to run on their National INsecurity record!
David H, Amen!
I feel 100% safe with this strong, reasonable man of excellent character and fine intelligence. I would trust my own children with him. He is a good man and a good president.
I would like to see an end to this war, but I trust his judgement, and his reasons for the course he is taking were sound. I assume he knows more than I do about the way to proceed.
His record is A-OK by me.
thank you pam52, i wholeheartedly agree with OBAMA and how he's handling things
Damn right he does, he has NOT drug us into any new conflicts, and he has brought many of our troops home.
HE ALSO BROUGHT DOWN OUR EVIL ENEMY......BUT HE MISSED GW AND CHENEY...THEY ARE STILL WALKING THE EARTH.
Obama has the right to run his campaign on his national security record and on his whole record and his desire to build a better nation and a better world for all not just a few. Even before Obama started his presidency he won the Nobel prize. They saw in him something the GOP will never have, benevolence. I am not saying he is perfect, but we have to give credit where credit is due.
You are right Thankful Mom. Those two should be in jail.
Let it be known that if you are a terrorist, while Obama is the POTUS the US will not tolerate any abuses, and if you walk with terrorist, you better keep away from them lest you share the same fate. If any one gives asylum to terrorist, it will be found out and dealth with accordingly. WE have a strong president we can be proud of, not one that answered " I don't know where he is", "I have no Idea", "I have not given any thought to Bin Laden". I wonder if Mr. Bush realize how important that we kept on trying to find the murderer of over 3k American civilians not a small hoodlum.
Obama did it by using the intelligence personnel we are already paying for and using our great military to do its job. Bush just did not use our resources. I think this war would have ended sooner and the lives of our young men and women would have been spared.
Bush as the GOP wants to cater to the Military Industrial Complex and just elongated the war and perpetuated our loss .
OK now I get the question McCain saying that the president was bragging and that is no conduct of a hero. Really??? President Obama was bragging?? Like excessive celebrating in football?? It didn't seem anything the sort to me, but I support the president so I guess my opinion doesn't count? But Bush W. and mission accomplished, that was different. Huh??
Like Bonner, McCain always looks like he sold his soul, and is about to break down and cry. Wonder why.
India, I so agree with you. I feel safer with Obama as commander and chief than ever will with a Republican president. They are the war Eagles. There's a saying" OLD MEN CREATE WARS AND YOUNG MEN DIE IN THEM "! George Bush Jr. And Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld sent us in to two wars and we have lost so many lives. Many who will live with there wounds for ever and the night mares of war. Children who will never know there fathers or mothers. One man President Obama ended the Iraq war and brought our troops out. He as commander and chief gave the orders to get Osama and others. Dick Cheney preached we would not be safe under Obama as president guess he has to eat crow now !!! As for Romney and his photo op with Giuliani, talk about milking The death of Osama ! Mr. Romney is pathetic.
Viewer01, McCain is a has-been. He is a lying, doddering old fool. Let him rant if it makes him feel better. I lost all respect for him recently.
I am so tired of all their spin and distortion when they are all so clueless. It is just all negativity, and right out of Karl Rove's playbook. I would like to see Rove spend the rest of his days in Afghanistan. Let him do some real sweating and hard work in that wretched place.
I would vote this up multiple times if I could.
I feel FAR safer than I ever did with Bush in charge. Obama may not be as strong on some issues as many of us would hope, but one thing I honestly trust is that he has the nation's safety as one of his top priorities, and will not sell out to his ME oil buddies.
DAMN RIGHT, President Obama does have every right to use his foreign policy record! It has been one of his most amazing accomplishments, and something that the Repugs couldn't interfer with or obstruct like they have everything else.
Not to mention that the Repugs insistence that Obama's record not be mentioned is one of their most hypocritical assertions. Especially when they have made the most hoopla out of their own accomplishments... whether they were really successes or not.
Hell... Cheney even sold their foreign policy superiority to the stupidest in the country after it was their administration who allowed one of the worst attacks in our history to take place. Talk about ignorant and gullible falling for anything.
What's more... President Obama took a huge risk with his decision to go into Pakistan after Bin Laden. And you can bet if it had failed and our SEALS had been killed... the Repugs wouldn't be letting Obama have a minutes peace about it. They would be shouting about that failure from the roof tops.
Now the Repugs just can't stand the fact that they can't call him a failure... although they will try to anyway. Especially Mutt Robme who is still trying to and lying through his teeth to do it.
Thanks Silvaria. And I meant every word of it, too.
Does President Obama have the right to run on his national security record?
99%
I am sure George Washington used his war record to become president. Richard Nixon used Vietnam to win and GW Bush used 9/11 to win.Of course President Obama has the right to use his record on National Security to run and every right to use the failures and obstructionism of the Republican Party to defeat them.
Hey Louis, you are right on that.....why don't you show up much anymore.....working too hard?
I would be more surprised if the GOP didn't say anything! But remember it was the waterboarding that was used the get the info to find him and Obama was just watching. if you believe that you better get your head examined.
Hi India
I feel exactly the same way, that finally the country is safe under the leadership of a more reasonable and intelligent man that President Obama is. He is thoughtful and discerning in his policies and actions and considers what consequences will arise from those actions in the future. I think that is one of his best qualities, his ability to look forward and consider what will be needed for the country's best future, economically, security-wise, and planning for the energy future. President Obama thinks of what is best for the citizens of the entire country, including the middle class and the poor... not just the wealthiest.
By comparison, the entire time of the GW Bush administration, I felt a sense of DOOM that something terrible would happen that would destroy the country. No consideration was given to what was best for the country as a whole, only what was best for Wall Street, the wealthy and the large corporations. GW certainly was not able to look any further than the end of his nose.... or into the future farther than his next photo op or taking credit for some other self-aggrandizing policy decision he did to benefit his wealthy supporters. And it wasn't long before my sense of DOOM was answered with that attack on 9/11, topped off with the country's economy left decimated in the last year of the Bush administration.
Hi TM
I so agree... and justice will not be complete until those war criminals, Bush and Cheney are brought to justice to answer for the damage they did to this country. And for their unrighteous welding of power to start wars, to torture prisoners, and to loot the treasury all for their own gain and advantage.
They never seemed to give much consideration at all of the lives being sacrificed in their unnecessary war in Iraq or the damage done to the people's lives here. They both belong in prison along with a few others of their cronies.
Hi Viewer
This is nothing new for the GOP and especially concerning this President. Not only have they tried as much as possible, to prevent President Obama from getting his economic policy through, as well as job creation, etc. They also are bound and determined to deny him any credit for those things he has accomplished all without their help.
Even the day after he first announced the death of Osama Bin Laden, Lush Limpbrain and every Repug/TEApug who could get on air was accusing President Obama of bragging about his accomplishment. In reality, the President simply visited some locations significant to the 9/11 attack which Bin Laden had been held responsible for.
President Obama accomplished these visits to a firehouse and Ground zero with nothing but dignity and reverence. He exhibited absolutely no self-congratulations or braggadocio that the prior administration would have. His concern and attention that day was for the firemen and survivors of victims he met that day.
But apparently anytime this President merely announces something he has accomplished for the good of the American people... the GOP take that as bragging. Maybe it's because of their unwillingness to admit the fact that the last GOP President was totally worthless and a failure.
@DScully,
Why the change from 'GW Moron' to 'GW Bush' all of the sudden? Until now you have never posted 'GW Bush', you have always posted 'GW Moron'. Why the change?
Hi Pam and xxx ooo
Exactly right... the GOP's words are ringing pretty hollow on every issue, considering the accomplishments of President Obama... and his true and sincere concern for the advancement and betterment of our country.
Unlike Mutt Robme... President Obama is a man of his word, and he does what he says he will do. His campaign promises were not hollow or meaningless. He has done so many of the things he said he would, and wants to accomplish the rest in his next term in office.
I'm still looking forward to a public option being added to the ACA. Do you think that is too hopeful?
drill
I use them interchangeably... sometimes one, sometimes the other. I used to call the idiot Dubya most of the time. It just depends what my frame of mind is and how disgusted I am at the very thought of the @!$%#.
President Obama is the only one to have a security record to run on. The GOP record is failure after failure. If they want to run on that, be my guest.
"Mittens" and "Rudy" went to the 9-11 memorial for what reasons????? Can we say lame photo op.....
Just wait, the gop will start producing TV ads where "mittens" has more flags than Obama did and say "See "Mittens" is strong for America.... he has more flags behind the podium than Obama"
@DScully,
To me you referring to him as 'GW Bush' shows that you are a least starting to remove the blame from what occurred three and a half years ago and are at least starting to hold Obama accountable for what is occurring today.
President Obama committing the United States of America for another 12 more years!!!
OMG!
It's not combat troops. You can unwad your panties now, as I'm sure that's not very comfy.
Are we committing our troops to another 12 yrs? NO. We will be out in 2014 on schedule. A classic example of reichwingnut trolls half truths they are famous for. Go back to fake 'news' and spread your misinformation, they're gullible enough to buy that crap.
Obviously you slept througout your school years if you had any. The UNITED STATES have military all over the planet. Why you whinning now. You think all of the sudden a new President is gonna change that? MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX where most of our hard earn tax dollars go with the force and fierce of GOP in congress, so please study up. That has been the program until the end of time or when this crazy life ends and the comming of Our Savior rises up his army to change all things here on earth. (Biblical Book of Revelation)
Obama is not committing more troops. He's doing the same thing the U.S. has done for years and that's help rebuild their country, it's no different than being in Korea,Germany,Japan or other countries.
Billie Mazza, Absolutely it has been done since WW2, Peace keepers. To loose all the blood and treasure and walk away is to do what happen in Germany with WW1 . We payed a terrible price for that. He was magnificent.
not 12 more he's just sustaining the course that was already start
Well- so far he is the only candidate that is in the race to have committed to a timetable for getting us out of Gitmo. I think, if I remember, Jan 2010 is the deadline. He has also managed to keep his word on not using enhanced interrogation methods. Dead ain't torture.
Melinda, Don't jump to conclusions so fast. That's not what he said. Listen closer next time.
That way you can troll the waters with some bait on your line.
"OMG" doesn't cut it.
He is just cleaning up the mess Bush and Cheney got us into. He cleaned up Iraq and now he cleaning up their mess in Afghanistan and bringing our troops home. We should never have been in either country. If it had not been for the lies perpetrated by Bush and Cheney, we would never have been in either country.
davisg, They left Obama one hell of a mess militarily and economically. We're lucky half the country isn't walking in bread lines right now.
It will take years to recover from the Manichean disaster Bush perpetrated on this country. Romney would set us back so far we'd likely never recover.
OBAMA 2012 Let's play it SAFE!
I don't THINK , he shouldn't have us stay there another 10 year, don't get me WRONG , I have been all for him, BUT , now another 10 year's , Dick and G W Bush were doing it for the OIL-COMPANY ,you know they made MONEY !!! We the PEOPLE will be building there country ,& we just will not have a house to live in or food to EAT I will not VOTE for MITT, might not VOTE at ALL now .
al-3250956
I felt the same way when I first heard the news, but in fact, he is winding down the war as quickly as he can and leaving behind a mainly spec-ops group of fighters. That is wise, actually. The war on terror cannot be fought with a traditional "boots on the ground" strategy.
Vote. If Romney gets in we'll be fighting yet another war, in Iran.
Not voting is a vote for GOP. We still have "troops" in Korea, Japan, Germany....
My Son works on a Navy Base in Japan, and he says that guys are not re-upping. They don't want to make a career of the arm services.
Even McCain would say nothing on the treaty....because he is afraid they want some conflict somewhere, but they know it is very un-popular right now....so he is in between a rock and a hard place.....why do you think Obama went there to day to celebrate the demise of OBL......he had an appreciative audience....smart move....and there is nothing the reps could come up with, but that he should go more often....Yet they don't want to pay for his trip.
Melinda, I don't understand your comment at all. The President wants to have our troops home by 2014. Either you can't count or you misunderstood the President. We are talking 2 years not 12. You also must remember that the Republicans were against us ending our war with Iraq and it is them that do not want to set a date for ending the war in Afghanistan. Republicans thrive on war. They are the ones who want us to bomb Iran. They are not happy if we are not at war with someone.
2.11, please do vote this election, don't let the TPer's use your vote for someone who will put us back into the ditch Bush/Cheney have done. President Obama is doing his best, but without help from the TPers, it hard to get much done these days. He is working on the problems, Obama/Biden 2012. Don't go TPers.
@melinda
The length of time in the agreement struck me also, but consider this. I think this is a very clever strategic move for President Obama in his considering and planning for the country's future security. And as usual, he is showing his real strength in leadership here.
The Middle East is always going to be a hotbed of terrorism and eventually either Al Quaeda or other terrorist groups will rise again in this area. And their likely target will again be the USA. But having a treaty or deal with Afghanistan in keeping a base of some kind there in that country, will allow the US in the future to have a place to strike from if need be.. without having to actually invade a country again.
President Obama has successfully shown through his leadership in not only taking out Bin Laden and many of the other Al Quaeda leadership using drones. But also his example of leading from behind in Lybia, using only air reinforcements and allowing the people there to fight for their own freedom. He has shown that these important foreign difficulties with dictators can be dealt with in a more strategic and cost effective way than invading countries with battalions of troops and costing American lives in the process.
Because of this example that President Obama has demonstrated in a more effective way of dealing with these problems... it will hopefully become a template for the country to follow in the future, and make it more difficult for the next GOP administration to start full-on wars like they did this last time. Hopefully the Congress and any others who would be involved with giving that permission would first require these less expensive and less dangerous tools to be used.... with only invasion as a last resort.
Of course, that was what NATO was supposed to help with to some extent... but the Bush administration simply ignored what NATO advised and lied to Congress about WMDs to get the Go ahead for war with Iraq. Hopefully it will be a cold day in Hell before the GOP get another one of their candidates into office who is as big an imbecile as GW Moron.
How's that Drill?
Hi John, Edie, Billie, Pam, India, davisg, al, larry, Valerie, Steve & TM
See my explanation above of why this is an intelligent strategic move on President Obama's part. And tell me if it makes sense to you and do you think it is a good and reasonable view of the situation? One of this President's strengths is his ability to look to the future and plan for it.
I think (and hope) that is what President Obama is doing here, not only with an eye to our country's future national security and defense against terrorism... but also as a strategy for preventing the next GOP President from starting full on wars again without very good reasons.
DScully, I so agree with your post. While it in away seems along time . Hopefully we will keep a lid on what they like to make and explosive situation every chance they get. You would think they would want to lay down there arms and for once live in peace. But they seem a country who may never know peace. The brass ring is there's all they have to do is drive the bad guys stright to to hell ! President Obama gave a wonderful speech last night and has been fighting his own war with the do nothing congress and Re Pubs who refuse to do nothing unless its in there own interests. Dscully Obama is a dreamer for the future. For America to have brighter days ahead. The Re Pubs want us living in caves and destitute!!!
Thankful Mom - The reasons very as to why "troops" have decide not to re-up. Obama being president has nothing to do with it, if it is then it's best that they do get out.
Over half of the "first termers" get out and you lose about a quarter of those that finished their second term. After that, the percentage drops off, a few will get out for better jobs, no bonus, slow promotion and they don't like their next assignment.
http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2008/11/af_retention_110808/ and this is just the Air Force, imagine how mulitple deployments hit Army and Marine Corps retention?
Dscully, #2.18 I also agree with your post. I would have preferred it to be just OVER, though. Obama's visit prompted a suicide bombing which killed seven people and injured more.
These are the people we are fighting for? A country which raises suicide bombers? We will never make a difference in their attitude. (IMO). NEVER.
Get the hell out of that evil place.
With regards to why it is a very good idea to retain some military in Afghanistan, Multiple reasons present themselves by considering why we continued to maintain a presence in West Germany... I spent two years there in the 70s, so I can best relate to that situation...
1) TRIP WIRE... If the Soviet Union had attacked with our presence there with much force, the American military in place would probably be quickly overwhelmed; the same applies to China and South Korea... However, use of force against our presence would guarantee the United States getting reinvolved, and their leaders didn't want to "awaken the sleeping giant" like Pearl Harbor did...
If the Taliban attempts a truly military coup against our troops, even if they are inactive, we would come back in force... Our presence deters a military strike against Karzai...
2) FAMILIARITY BREEDS UNDERSTANDING, NOT CONTEMPT... If we maintain a peaceful presence there, instead of a belligerent one that looks down on the native populace, relations with the Afghan people should improve... If we are perceived as equals rather than as invaders - if we don't treat them as enemy aliens in their own country - attitudes on BOTH sides should improve...
3) DEAL WITH THE PEOPLE, NOT JUST LEADERS... Karzai and his cronies are corrupt, and we are perceived as bolstering that corruption by giving his junta billions... If we could somehow start trade with the Afghan people rather than just hand out billions to the corrupt officials, we might actually improve their lives... and their perceptions...
4) WE BROKE IT, WE BOUGHT IT, WE CAN'T JUST THROW IT AWAY... The reason Osama and the Taliban seized power is, we trained them and supplied them to fight the Soviets, then threw them away after the Soviets left as if they were garbage... We were RESPONSIBLE for their situation, but took no responsibility for the conseqences of our actions... Leaving a military presence indicates we won't ignore them again...
The key to getting the Afghan people to reject the Taliban is to change their perception of us... "Win their hearts and minds"... Walking away would leave a power vacuum that would suck the Taliban back in...
Larry- I hadn't heard Obama's position on Germany, Japan and Korea. You imply that Obama will have us removed from those countries. Will Obama clarify that point- or is it one of those things that he will just do after the election- as he whispered to the Russian President?
Not only does President Obama have the Right to run on his national security record, he has the DUTY to do so...
Mitt Romney would run us into a war with Iran, with no consideration for diplomacy or the consequences...
We need a mature, thoughtful man in charge... We already have that man...
He is committing us to more time in Afghanistan, but with less troops, only in a training role, and without the commitment to police the whole country...
indeed, david. our pres. follows his own heart and guts. romney follows the strings that make him act and think and spew.
Obama wants our Asian presence to cease,
And let Karzai our commitments release...
After twelve years and more
Of being stuck in this war,
Bin Laden's death gives us real chance of Peace...
Not funny, but heartfelt...
Not only has he the right and duty, but it is also his right and duty to point out that his opponent probably would not have made the call to take out bin Laden. The republicans can whine and squawk all year long and it won't change the statement Romney made about "spending that much to take out one man". Yeah, well Al Qaeda is nearly destroyed, so I'll stick with the guy that took out bin Laden for another 4 years.
David, Those are wonderful words. May God bless our troops and there families and a man who really gives a damn . Say what they want. But he is a real commander and chief.
David, yuo are correct. You should have heard that Hateful Hannity still talking about waterboarding, and his croney's claim that KSM had given in water boarding! That stupid idiot will never quit that claim. I have never met a man who claims that he is Chrstian and talking with so much Hate!
David, Yes, thank God, we do. Imagine the dynamic duo of McCain/Palin in charge.
I can't even go there.
Malinda has problems with math......we don't count in dog years. Only Obamas dog does.
David,
Perfect
Stephen Colbert on Mitt Romney and taxes...
"Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and hide in the Caymans what is the Caymans"
He is staying until 2014. After they are on they own, with help from us for the next 10 years, there are no Combat troops involved during the 10 yrs. It is their responsibility to help save their country, not ours. We will still use the drones to patrol the country in times of trouble. 2014 we are out of combat troops in Afghanistan.
Of course President Obama has the right to run on his achievements when it comes to national security. He's running for a second term. That's what incumbent Presidents usually do.
We need to elect as person who is proven strong in many areas including this one. I said "usually does" because Bush/Cheney ran their re-election campaign on fear. Obama is running on positive accomplishments because he has them under his belt. The puppet president Bush and psychopathic Cheney had no posiitive record to run on anything.
Robme doesn't have a good record on anything either and is clueless about National Security.
Obama/Biden - 2012 !!!!
Right on David J, and I agree completely. I think this is an excellent strategic move on President Obama's part (outline above #2.17 if you are interested). Great rhyme too... as usual. We don't expect anything less here.
Hi plooka
That's right... Mutt Robme can eat his own words. President Obama didn't put any words in Mutt's mouth or accuse him of anything he didn't say freely on his own.
@Kathe
How true, how very true. And I agree... Bush was the puppet President of that psychopathic puppet master Cheney. They had no positive record whatsoever... not even an ability to keep the country safe... 9/11 happened under their incompetent watch.
Their only hope was to run on a campaign of fear-mongering and lies, which is their usual strategy..... and rely on the ignorance and gullibility of those supporters stupid enough to vote for them, along with voting machine tampering and voter fraud they also typically use.
I think that many of you are stuck on 12 years of US military presence in Afghanistan. That does not mean that we will be having fighting going on. Look, most of our troops will be out of Afghanistan by 2014. The Afghanistan government has to be trained to defend themselves against insurgents. Many of you forgot that we kept American troops all over Germany for more than 40 years after WWII ended. Why, because we were still involved in a cold war with Russia and East Germany. By keeping troops there, the Russians and East Germans were not able to retake control of Germany. Also remember, that most of our allies have set dates for withdrawing their troops from Afghanistan. We have to be there as support for Afghanistan as the break with the terrorists.
Valerie
Yeah... that is exactly the way I'm looking at it, or the way I understand it. This fight against terrorism will be an on-going fight even after our troops leave Afghanistan. I think this plan or agreement President Obama has devised is simply a way to keep the door open and access to a base location in Afghanistan in the event that continued drone attacks need to be used in the future to go after new terrorists, etc.
But at least we won't be spending so much on keeping a large number of troops there or doing nation building as Bush, McCain and other Repugs want to do. We have too much nation building to do in our own country, and the GOP have to be made to understand this country needs our attention and funding now. So far they just haven't gotten it.
Exactly, Scully, Afghanistan is a very dangerous place and to take 100% of our troops out of the region would be a very foolish mistake to make. One thing about our president, he is NOT a foolish man.
Of course he does. He has done more in >4 years than Dubya did in 8. In fact, Dubya hurt America, and Obama has helped. Republicans live in fantasyland.
Yes. He actually "Accomplished" alot. Unlike another President we all know.
The other president we know, accomplished leaving this country and Iraq in shambles. While he dances in his cash flow.
Yes, he sure does have a right to run on that. Heck, GWB ran on it in 2004 after he'd gotten us into 2 wars following 9/11
Exactly
Forward:

Yes. President Obama has successfully earned to run for his security ability that has made America to be a great nation in the world. Republicans only wants to continue the war and does not want to stop.
Yes and all of his other accomplishment that the American people tend to forget. I am sick of the pundants making money causing internal conflict in this US. These so call experts dont know @!$%# always trying to out think our Great President. What if What if What if, these questions were never asked with Congress or GWB. The GOP started a war they now want to whine about. This President is smarter than most and Romney get ready to get your ass handed to you on a rusty ole platter. Sorry no silver platter for you.
Great post Edie agree with every word you said. Can I just say President Obama is my hero.
Oh course he does! Only a fool would do otherwise, and we all know Obama is no fool.
Hi RebecahB
Most definitely.... President Obama is not a fool.
Now... those who are most definitely FOOLS are GW Moron, Dick Cheney, Lush Limpbrain, the entire lame cast at Fox and Flunkies, the Repug/TEApug ninnies in D.C. lead by Turtleman McConnell, Bonehead, Can'tor, Pawl (Ayn) Ryan.
Then there are the TEAbag Gubers like Scott Weisel Walker, KaSICK, Vaginal Probe McDonnell, Rick-diculous Perry, Rick-diculous Scott, Jan the Hag Brewer, Rick-diculous Snyder, Fatman Christie.
And how could I forget Mutt Robme, Newton the Gingrinch, Rick-diculous Sanitorium... Grover taxman Norquist, Koch (buy us some government) bros.
The President shouldn't bow to ANYTHING the Karl Rove party wants. He's done a superior job repairing the damage the Republican party caused to our international image and he should be proud of that.
Sure he should run on his national security record,
Of course he should run on his record, President Obama has a record to run on, bush had nothing to run on, only record bush has to run on was bankrupting the nation.
Of course he does, I seam to remember Bush in Manhattan after 9/11 claiming he was going to make us safer if re-elected! Willard Romney would not have made the same call and he said as much.
rite, karen. romney could never make a monumental decision like obama did. he'd be afraid what it would do to his poll numbers. sad.
Broken Promises.....is what Romney is trying to use as his campaign record.....

You bet he does. If it was the Republicans they would be doing it. They in fact would have been doing it for this last year, patting themselves on the back every chance they got. And if the Dems would have said anything, they would have called us unpatriotic! But of course that is probably an unlikely scenario. The Reps wouldn't have been smart enough to capture bin Laden in the first place! Look at Georgie, he said he didn't even think about him anymore, which is probably true since he flew the rest of the bin Ladens to Saudia Arabia the night of 9/11. He and all the other Reps were probably hoping he wouldn't get caught. He had a chance in Tora Bora and blew that too. Whose side were you on Georgie??
Hi MJB
I totally agree and was thinking of that earlier today. Since President Obama made the announcement of Bin Laden's death a year ago... not much else has been said about it other than an occasional mention in when another Al Quaeda leader was found or killed. Otherwise.... it wasn't in the news much and people had a tendency to forget about it or at least not be reminded of it much.
Now on the 1 year anniversary... it is right for it to be brought to the country's attention again... and for President Obama to take a few more bows for his courage and decisiveness on the matter of dealing with our country's enemies.
Hi Scully! You're right. Other people have talked about it over this last year, but Obama doesn't usually mention it unless he's asked about it. And still the sock puppets give him grief! They are just the most ridiculous excuse for a political party!
Absolutely , The GOP would have Us believe that they wouldn't be strutting around like G.W. Bush did on that aircraft carrier. Chris Mathew's said they'd be running to carve Bush's face in Mt Rushmore & he was right about that. The GOP never really wanted to find Bin Laden. The money to defense contractors & the expansion of surveillance power that 9/11 gave the Bush administration & the further shifting of money into the hands of the 1% was their only objective
Exactly correct... the best interests of the country and it's people are the farthest thing from the GOP's mind in everything they do. The only thing that matters to them and advances their agenda is making those policies that assist the wealthy and corporate interests that line their pockets.
All presidents have the right to run on their record......which includes national security. Hell, if Bush had gotten bin Laden, the republicans would have named 17 major bridges, an aircraft carrier, a recycling center, US 95, US 10, half of Texas, several football stadiums, and a government building or two after him.....within the first week.
What hypocrisy !
It doesn't matter what OBAMA does anyway.....the tee pee reps will whine, whine, whine and kick and scream........cause they still have NOTHING!
TM, That's the bottom line: they have NOTHING to offer this country but disaster and we've been there, done that.
I've begun to turn a deaf ear to their whining. SSDD, so boring.
Do Republicans understand that they look like hypicrital fools. Boy, Bush really used the 9/11 tragedy every chance he could. Not only did he use it, he had the nerve to walk on that aircraft carrier in a pilot suit and announce Mission Accomplished like he single handily ended the war himself. OOOPS, it was a big lie, the war was far from Mission Accomplished it lasted another TEN LONG YEARS and, if that wasn't bad enough, he got us into another war. Two wars with no way to pay for them.
@India and TM
The Teapugs do have nothing to offer... they are just annoying, like an insect buzzing around your ears.
@Valerie
No... the Repugs don't care about being hypocrites. Just like they don't care about being caught in a lie. They live in a whole different world with a whole different set of priorities.... neither of which include ethics or embarrassment.
He absolutely does have the right! Right after complaining and saying we shouldn't politicize Osama's death or 9/11...the mittster appears standing next to Rudy in front of a FDNY fire house that lost 11 people. THAT'S not politicizing 9/11?! Dubya deliberately ran a whole campaign on fear/terrorism/911. It was their game plan. This president went against advisors, took a stand, knowing what it would mean if he failed, but did it anyway. That took guts, and he deserves to run on it. The other side insisted he was woefully unprepared to deal, and yet deal he did. And with a LOT more success!
I know... wasn't that absurd? Mutt Robme was trying to give the impression that he had something to do with the Bin Laden thing by latching onto Rudy Guilliani. Taking credit by Osmosis maybe... it was just a pathetic pandering move... but some woman gave him hell outside one of the fire dept they visited.
It's good that the President doesn't plan build their government. Afghanistan needs to work that out. It just not acceptable to people to have a government installed by a foreign country. The sooner the Afghan people can take care of their own security the better. The sooner the troops can come home the better.
Of course he does. Anyone running for office of any kind would use their record to show what they have accomplished. They have that right, just like someone would if they were applying for a job, you list out your accomplishments. The GOP are again trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat!
President Obama has done the same thing we do when we apply for a job. He put down what he has done on has resume' and job application. It's just that damn simple....
Lerone, Bingo!
Good evening everyone. It seems that think that only they have the right to campaign on National Security. During the Bush campaign they focused on 9/11 and used fear to get the American people to vote for him. We all remember that sham, Mission Accomplished, on the deck of the ship. If the Republicans had their way, President Obama would not be able to campaign at all!
Question, since when do we have to sign in using our facebook account? I've never had to do that before tonight.
Valerie, A wonderful good evening to you. I agree with all you say. The republicans sure can not run on there record the past 4 years. They have set on there cans and done nothing. They are real losers ! They attack Obama who in spite of there hateful ways has accomplished so much.
Did you hit the wrong voting area. I donot have face book act. But had a mess when hit it once.
Good Evening Val,you don't have to I was being locked out once.I don't have a facebook account.Don't check the facebook box enter the email address you used when you joined and your Pass word and you're in,it will come up again at least it did me,okay Good Luck.
Val, you don't have to, it just ask you to check the facebook box, you don't have to. It will happen again if your computer completely shuts down for one reason or another.
@Valarie
I do not have facebook account either but got locked out for the exact same reason.
This board is a bit twitchy.
I do have a facebook account, was just surprised to be asked to sign in on facebook page, I just don't like to talk politics on my page. I keep in touch with a lot of my family who live out of state and some of them, unfortunately, are strong Republicans. My Dad always told me not to discuss religion or politics with family and friends, especially if you don't agree. I learned my lesson the hard way with my very Republican daughter.
Hi Valerie
You don't have to sign in using facebook. I have occasionally had a window pop-up asking me to do so, but I just click again on the account box to sign in via newsvine and eventually it drops down for me to sign in.
