Although both parties agree that the lower interest rate should be extended, the fight is over how to pay for it. NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports.
House Speaker John Boehner cries up a storm about the fight over student loan interest rates. And GOP presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney tells college students to just ask mommy and daddy to pick up the tab.
Tonight, Ed proves both men have it wrong, with Van Jones, President and Co-Founder of the Rebuild the Dream, and MSNBC Political Analyst Richard Wolffe.
The Obama campaign is hammering Romney on national security. Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff at the State Department during Gen. Colin Powell's term and currently the Pamela Harriman Visiting Professor at the College of William & Mary, will help Ed set Romney straight.
We've had 33 months of consecutive economic growth but Romney says President Obama is more interested in slow jamming the news. Robert Reich, former U.S. Labor Secretary, UC Berkeley Professor, will respond to that.
Gov. Scott Walker is getting more out of state help in his recall election fight. Fellow radical, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is heading to Wisconsin to do some campaigning. Mahlon Mitchell, President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, running for Lt. Gov. of Wisconsin, has the latest.
Senator John McCain ripped the Democrats for claiming there is a war on women. You won’t believe what President Obama said about that a few minutes ago. Ed has the video.
And tomorrow is the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. Tonight, Ed (who is live from Washington) looks back on some of its greatest hits, including president's take-down of Donald Trump.

John Boehner What a freakin hypocrite. Who started the fight against every agenda the President has put forth.
Betty Davis,
this is what repubs do. they call the democrats out for the very thing(s) they are doing themselves. they blame the democrats for causing the fight, when they are the ones who started it.
they don't like it when it has the opposite affect, when they are forced to do something they did not/do not want to do.
i love it when the "Preezy" has them by the short hairs.
So, does that mean, Mr Boehner, if the student loan rates are tied to the healthcare fund, does that mean it gets flushed with the "repeal"? Yes it's a dog and pony show. Keep up the great work, Ed.

Mitt says mom and dad should pick up the tab eh? Another exampe of Mitt's alienation from the average person's reality. Mitt not everyone has a million dollar daddy who can buy them out of an poor circumstances. If mom and dad could afford to pick up the tab they wouldn't have had to get a student loan in the first place.
Now John Boehner should know student loans have no relation to the healthcare bill. The reason it is coming up now contrary to what the right claims is not some clever political strategy it's because that's all the congress at the time thought they could easily afford. They thought they could only afford it for a few years. So no matter whether that is true or not, though it kind of is, the federal bureaucrats shouldn't be shuffling money to pay for things other than what that money was alotted for to begin with. Here's a thought stop pretending robbing Peter to save Paul is acceptable.
If I wanted to find the five lier's, I would go get Mr. Boehner five times. What a mess we have in the House of Rep''s.
All Bonehead can do is twist and turn around what's really happening- he is an embarrasment to our country! and they(the Repubs) all need to be voted out of office! Disgraceful behavior.
I'm interested to know why the Ed show staff thought the topic of equal rights for gay americans didn't deserve to be on the show and by that I mean this administrations refusal to sign a proposed executive order forbidding federal contractors from firing or discrimination based on sexual orientation. A policy three out of four people would agree with. There is no reason a contractor who works for the government and thus receives tax dollars from american tax payers, tax payers which includes gay americans, should be allowed to discriminate on sexual orientation.
This is election year politics which frankly is not surprising but in no way excuses it. Obama can't expect to do well in this election he wants to show the same political cowardice as Mitt Romney.
Before a mob of rabid Obama supporters jump on me I am in fact attacking the president on this as I would no matter what year it was. If you stand for something then you stand for it no matter if there is some election to win or not. It's about doing what's right, it doesn't matter a damn bit whether that is popular or not....although in this case it's quite popular so the cowardice is confusing.......I would attack any president for this. Deal with it.
Don't worry Cynical. Barak Obama will do or say whatever it takes to get re-elected. He will pull any stunt, mis-use his office, continue to divide our country....lie, spin, whatever it takes. If it is to his advantage to take the stand you want him to take...just wait...he will.
God help us if this man gets another 4 years. He is using the office and the American people and hopefully more and more Americans will realize this and vote him out. Thank you.
Except it will and he hasn't did you not read about the majority of people would be fine with angle I mentioned?
On voting him out....with Mitt Romney? The guy who has been for and against every major issue of our time, sometimes more than once, hardly an improvement on political courage.
how is that a change by electing the guy who is known first and foremost for being willing to say anything if he thinks he can get votes on it
Boehner defined himself very well, BLAH, BLAH,BLAH,BLAH,BLAH!!
You could see him holding back a laugh during his "tantrum". What a joke this man is! I would vote him out of office if I lived in his district.
Ed, You say both parties agree the interest rate for college loans should be lower but they can't agree how to pay for it. What is there to pay for? The Government sets interest rates. How does changing the interest rate create an additional cost to the Government?
Don't you just love Bonehead and his phony outrage? Hitting the podium was a nice touch, too. It would be great if, just once, the Reps could pass a bill without adding something on there that will stick it to the middle class and poor!
MJB, Im disappointed he didn't cry.
It is always better to have people think you are an idiot, then to open your mouth and remove all douts. mjb take heed to this frase. it may save your political future.
What a display of how fake and phoney that tandrum was. They say and do anything not to give any responsibilities to the oil companies or their rich pimps. Boner talking about give him a break! We would like to break something alright. Your azz!
