The next Vice President of the United States (at least according to many Republicans/Tea Partiers) delivered a "major speech" on foreign policy today at the Brookings Institution in Washington.
And U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) may have actually improved his chances of being chosen as Mitt Romney's running mate. Not because of the substance in the speech, but because he had a truly veep-like moment.
When he came to the last page of his speech, he realized he didn't have it.
"I left the last page of my speech. Does anyone have my last page?" Rubio said, who delivered the speech without a teleprompter.
That last page of Rubio’s speech included a lengthy quote from former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
“This is why I need this page,” Rubio joked.
Most public speakers, including Ed Schultz, have experienced moments like that and are more than sympathetic to Rubio's challenge.
But here's why it's a big deal:
In a February 2010 speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Rubio joked that a recent blizzard may be the best thing that had happened to our economy in the last 12 months, partly because it kept President Obama from "setting up his teleprompters and announcing new taxes."
Watch the video:
In fact, just about Republican/conservative around (including Limbaugh, Palin, Gingrich, Beck and Chrstie) has been fixated for months with President Obama's use of a teleprompter, even though every president since REPUBLICAN Dwight Eisenhower has used it.
Just two weeks ago, Foster Friess, a wealthy Republican who helped fund Rick Santorum's presidential campaign, said he hoped Obama's "teleprompters are bullet-proof."
Should righties end their teleprompter fixation for their own good? Let us know what you think!

before the tela promter.....Laura Bush used giant size book cards when she talked as the wife of governor of texas......I aways was impressed by how she managed things. A very nice lady who married a jerk. It must be love.
Extremely...deaf, dumb and blind love.
TM,
ever read the book "American Wife" by Elizabeth Curtis Sittenfeld?
"loosely" based on the life of Laura Bush, it is a great read.
was it love?
read the book and find out.
See, readinding is reading telepromter or not......
It doesn't surprise me that the Republicans will attack President Obama on ANYTHING they can think of; they just throw anything negative out there to the public and hope that something negative will stick! They play dirty, and have no shame about doing that! They will do and say ANYTHING to get President Obama out of office! That is their number one goal and agenda, NOT the economy, or jobs, or gas prices, or taxes! They will sacrifice all of that to get Obama out, even at the expense of our country going downhill and colliding into economic catastrophe! Shameful!
Correct on all points.
I love the fact that had he brought a teleprompter he wouldn't have forgetten his speech. I don't at all understand this neo con prompter are bad idea......so you're against teleprompters have no problem with written pre-prepared remarked
Or you can write it on the palm of your hand, like Sarah...
Not to forget that their beloved Reagan never spoke without a teleprompter.
President Obama is a very bright and articulate man.
repubs love to make fun of President Obama's use of a teleprompter, because they feel it brings him down to THEIR LEVEL.
he has a great smile, don't you agree?
Suzette: Agree 100%
Rubio is worst than Dan Quyle::
You say "potato", he says "potatoe"...
lol, david. that clip of him in a grade school classroom just came into my head. what a dope.
You are right kv6707.....that was hilarious when he spelled potato on the board in front of those kids. What a dope.....you are right. I laughed almost as hard as when I saw Obama tell the press that he had visited all 57 of the states in the United States. OOOOPS!! Oh yea, don't forget the "breathalyzer" he said the little girl was using in the emergency room. He meant inhaler. You are right, Quayle was a real dope!!
So what time are the cock roaches going to show and start their defense nonsense.
Is it the republican "war on technology", teleprompters, computers, tablets, cellphones, and the internet?
Doesn't matter what the President does, it will be wrong. The Republicans are so fixtated on making sure Obama fails they are willing to take the country down with the President. How can Senators like Mitch McConnell like themselves in the mirror much less accept their paychecks.
Anyone that does public speaches needs a written speach or a telepropter. Look how it magnified santorum's idiocy by talking off the top of his head. Perhaps the gop is criticizing the president about this ongoing in case anyone ever replays a reagan speach.
At least the president sounds like he was in on the writting of the speech and knows what hes saying. Reagan sounded like a B rate actor on the first reading of a script he had never seen before. Go get some old footage if you dont understand what im talkin about
Now now now Tom tap tc and the other tea bagger will tell you that Reagan wrote all of his speeches on the back of napkins cause Reagan was smarter then the average tea bagger. Got to love their rewrites of history made up in the minds of people like Ayn Rand.
Tom,
i agree with you about reagan, but repubs don't see him that way. they like the fact that he sounds like a B actor, or else they don't see it.
if they get old footage of reagan, repubs think he sounds smart. they think he is charismatic and funny.
he had alzheimers at the end of his first term. nancy had to sit in the audience and feed him lines. he had a big problem also with bigotry-"welfare queens" and "black bucks" were two of his favorite and frequently used phrases against those whom he thought were undeserving of respect.
i do not understand the hero worship of a man by the repubs who raised taxes 11 times. repubs love to criticize those of us who support Barack Obama, and they love to criticize President Obama by calling him the "annointed one", but at least our annointed one is alive. reagan, a dead man (and rush limbaugh) is the now head of the repub party.
just ask any repub in washington.
Suzette Reagan suffered from dementia for a rather long time before he was elected president. Alzheimer's starts off with slight delusions and loss of short term memories which progressively get worse until the person is unaware of any events except fragments from childhood. In the early stages the person has a difficult time knowing the difference between delusions and reality, a sign of insanity. That Reagans handlers were able to keep it hidden from the public for as long as they did shows how far the GOP will go to get what they want.
Thanks for the diagnosis doctor, but in those days and prior it was much easier to hide things from the public because the press actually had scruples and weren't the mercenary d-bags they are today.
This has little to do with what the GOP was hiding or how low they'll stoop. Kennedy was able to hide a whole bunch of things back in the day for the exact same reason - the Washington press corp had respect for the office. He'd never get away with any of those things today.
As much as you'd love to think I believe Reagan was the greatest thing since Velcro the fact is I really don't. I'm sure you'll find a way to ignore this statement and respond with yet another lengthy diatribe about the GOP boogie man.
I'm not going to bother defending Reagan outside of this: From your statement you know that Alzheimer's is a disease, yet you never miss an opportunity to call Reagan a "drooling doddering old fool" at any opportunity you can.
That's really mean spirited, even for you.
Instead maybe you should be focusing on why none of you can never explain with any facts what's so great about Obama.
Millions of people are worshiping a man who has accomplished virtually nothing but giving speeches. Yet none of you think anything is off about this.
Maybe you should add Dr. Milton Erickson to your Google searches and Wikipedia perusals... You know, that information that you're passing off as personal knowledge.
Why do we have to explain anything to you? You are like any other brain damaged person, you won't listen, you believe you are smarter then everyone around you, kind of funny because you haven't had a thought since Fox news planted on in your mind and when confronted on stupidity you blame everyone except those at fault. Sorry don't need to be a doctor to know about Reagans insanity it was admitted by Nancy after Reagan left office. Like we said a million times you refuse to admit that Obama has done more then any other president in his first term on a level of FDR. So go back to your delusions and let the sane people speak, your insane GOP talking points are rather useless.
LOL I refuse to admit it because it's simply not true.
This is your typical response when you can't back up what you're saying with any facts. You either say it's already been debunked or that any real effort is "wasted on us." LOL.
There you go again violating the rules that seem to apply to everyone but you.
And speaking of FDR, it never occurred to you to mention that his administration went to great lengths to make sure he was never seen or photographed in a wheelchair, and that his arrivals and departures from public appearances were choreographed so the press wasn't around to see it.
Yeah... he had a disease he was hiding too, but I wouldn't dream of suggesting that his administration was stooping to some malevolent stunt to try and hide it - to suggest such a ridiculous thing would be laughable.
Obama is such a great speaker..with or without a speech..And he is a People Person" Its a "Sincere chemistry that blends with the people...Unlike Willard...
yup and ain't George Cloony handsome??? I bet he would make a great President.
Priceless video...I'm sure he felt stupid...
Republicans don't have a chance of winning in November...
I wonder if Mitt's going to try and run again in 2016??? 3 strikes your out MITT !!
Palin to Rubio: "Next time, embrace DIGITAL technology and do as I do -- use a Sharpie to write crib notes on the palm of your hand!"
Hey...remember when Obama really slipped up on 7/28/08 amd 7/13/09 when his teleprompter failed and when he said he had visited 57 states and when he said 10,000 died in Kansas? He ain't no great speaker without his teleprompter....fair and balanced...report gaffes on both sides of the aisle instead of being so biased, hypocritical and dishonest.
And the moral of this story is -- be careful what you say, what you do and who you criticize. Pay backs are hell. :-)
So because Rubio criticizes the use of a teleprompter it's a big deal that he has to ask for the last page of his speech? Oh, come on, that is just nonsense. There is so much more serious stuff to criticize the far-right/conservatives/hawkish people for.
Way to go Chitown Muscle. Whomitmay never can come up with anything so all he does on this blog is call people names...down people...etc. All he comes up with are Ed's talking points.
Womitmay and all of the Eddies have not one thing to say about what Obama has done positively for this country. That is why Obama goes around the country and does not say ONE word about his record....just makes fun of anyone else to tries to do something good.
I am so glad it will all be over Nov. 6 and Michelle will get her fantasy wish to "walk out the front door and keep on walkin'"...and taking Barak with her.
These far lefties do nothing on this blog but call people names...make fun of them...down them....slander them....and the like. Thats it! That is their nature.
This is why I will continue to read this and respond. Maybe someone will see what they really are and make a change for the better. Keep it up Chitown Muscle.
