If you think Mitt Romney was just pretending to be "severely conservative" to win the GOP presidential nomination, but would govern (if elected) as a moderate like he did as governor of Massachusetts, think again.
Last week, Alexandra Franceschi, Specialty Media Press Secretary of the Republican National Committee, suggested Romney's policies are like the “policies of the Bush administration…just updated.”
But an excellent and review of Romney’s positions by Think Progress shows that he has “updated” George W. Bush’s positions by moving substantially to the right in a number of key areas, including:
- tax policy
- campaign finance
- education
- Medicare
- minimum wage
- the environment
Keep in mind that Bush was ranked 39th out of 43 among U.S. presidents in a 2010 Siena poll of 238 Presidential scholars, with poor ratings in handling of the economy, communication, ability to compromise, foreign policy accomplishments and intelligence.
Who was rated worse than Bush?: Andrew Johnson, James Buchanan, Warren Harding and Franklin Pierce. Good company indeed...NOT!
Check out the Think Progress review and let us know if there are other policies that Romney has planted to right of Bush.

the democrats, and President Obama's campaign need to make sure mitt sticks to his SEVERELY republicanism/conservatisism.
he is such a mitt-flopper, we know he'll try to backtrack.
exactly. and romney will never be any part of any pres. statistics. not going to happen.
Sever, means of the worst kind......right?
TM,
depends on how you use the word severe, and on who is saying it.
in mitt's case, yes, i would say it is the worst kind.
Color me right one more time. About 2 or 3 months ago, Big Ed and his followers were painting Romney as a liberal. I predicted at that time, on these very blogs, that Big Ed would change his story and paint Romney as an extreme conservative as soon as he got to the general election. Was Ed and his minions lying then, or now?
rusty,
in mitt's "former life", he was a liberal, though he is lying about that now, saying he was "severely conservative".
tell me where ed is wrong.
romney moved from a liberal to the severely conservative extreme to win the nomination, even though we know that was all for nothing, as it is MITT'S TURN. now we realize that he has the nomination, he will lie some more, and backtrack as we heard from him last night, competing for the vote of college students by following President Obama's lead.
one thing we can count on with mitt, he'll change his mind if he thinks it will help him win the election.
Suzette- do you realize everything you accuse Romney of has been used by both sides for a long time. They all run to the edge during the primary, then converge to the Center during the election.
When you listen to people talk, they seem to have a significant amount of fear that Obama, once the election is over, will veer much farther to the Left than he has displayed so far. I would suggest Romney would veer much to the left of his current position as well, putting Obama Far Left and Romney Centered.
If Ed isn't trying to paint him as a conservative (as the headline seems to imply), then my bet is that he will before November.
The only time I've ever heard someone describe themselves as severe is when they are sharing a medical diagnosis as an excuse for why they are late to work.
Romney and Bush in the saddle again ! Get Mitt a 10 gallon hat and some grub. Be sure he has all the rice and beans he can eat. America really needs a replay and to be flung in to the great depression again. No thanks Mitt don't want any of your snake oil !
You'd better hope Commandant Robme never gets near the White House or he will become the worst President!
New subject about Sarah Palin's bus just missing a tornado. Why is she busing around the country? why doesn't she just go way way away?
Because, as she has stated, she doesn't WANT to go back to Alaska. How are you going to keep 'em on the frozen tundra after they've seen the lower 48! She thinks she can make way more money down here, and she probably can.
Ed Shultz, one of my modern heroes. good work every day Ed!!!
Get this Mitt guy off the air, he makes me sick to my stomach. All he does is talk about himself. Just go away so we never have to see your fake face again. You message is so fakey its pathetic.
C.L.U.E.L.E.S.S
romney isn't my fave for nominees, but anybody is better than the community organizer that is in office now.
Let's SEVERELY crush Mitt and his (GOP) buddies this NOV!!
