Trayvon Martin's parents saw their son's killer face-to-face for the first time in court on Friday, where George Zimmerman took the stand to say he was "sorry for the loss of your son." A judge set bail at $150,000. NBC's Kerry Sanders reports.
George Zimmerman surprises everyone by taking the stand and apologizing to the family of Trayvon Martin. But is he trying to taint a jury pool? Ed will ask Martin family attorney Daryl Parks and criminal defense attorney Jayne Weintraub.
New polling shows President Obama is crushing Mitt Romney with almost every group except Ted Nugent’s head shaking crowd. Jonathan Alter, MSNBC Political Analyst and Bloomberg View Columnist, will handicap the race with 200 days to election day.
Another day, another gaffe for Romney: this time he lies about manufacturing job rates during a visit to the Buckeye State. Mayor Chase Ritenauer (D-OH) will reveal the facts.
Catholic bishops are pushing back on the Republicans' "immoral" budget. Michael Eric Dyson, Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University and author (Can You Hear Me Now?) will weigh in on the Romney-Ryan budget and the ongoing "war on the poor."
Also, Romney’s newest advisor frequently uses twitter to launch personal, sexist attacks against women. You won't believe this one.
And in the Big Finish tonight, if you think Ted Nugent's crazy, wait until you hear what Michele Bachmann is saying about President Obama. Dr. Caroline Heldman, Professor of Politics at Occidental University, will weigh in on the right-wing's Obama derangement syndrome.

Bachmann/Nugent 1812
Yeah good old Moon Bat at her best, got to love how she claims Obama has no understanding about the economy because he wasn't experienced yet Moon Bat experience when she was elected was beauty queen on horse back. Hypocrites they are really showing themselves as the diseased minds behind the countries down fall.
yes all the witches are giving their opinions on obama like they could do a better job. all palin and bachman are good at is lying
1812 comment is priceless.
Bachmann is distasteful in manner and tone. She mocks the office of president, the president and politics with hypocrisy tainted by hatred.
If this was an asian, black, or hispanic women speaking about a white male president in this tone and manner, she would be carted away in a straightjacket.
Bachmann in full bloom, yap, yap, yap....! The message is racism, her value worthless.
She is undoughtedly the dumbest broad in THEIR party.
Time to put a muzzle on this female dog. We've heard all we ever want to hear from this lying, self-satisfied bubble head.
She is a doll. You know the meaning if the word "doll" don't you? A doll is an EMPTY-HEADED PLAYTHING.
lebierman,
i don't know if bachmann is the dumbest in the repub party. i think there are several contenders for that honor, especially sarah palin.
they are all flame throwers, using racist rhetoric to increase donations to get re-elected (allen west and others).
they say they are christians.
their god must approve of bigotry and hate.
Bachmann is the the C word you fill in the blanks — — — — — !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C-R-A-Z-Y Ohh Michelle Bachmann God bless her I think she fills a very important role in our society, court jester. You else could make laugh like her stupid statements. There is no reason to use the word she used for anything. Now being a fool Bachmann probably doesn't know that which is why the GOP will always lose the minority vote. They can't even listen to these communities on something so basic as to what they consider to be racial slurs.
How the hell do you expect us to buy that you're on our side when you can' even listen to something so simple.
Bridge to now where, the space between Michelle Bachmann's ears.
Senator Arlen Specter said it best, "she needs to act like a lady." And this is from me, there is nothing in the world that mars the beauty in a woman more than her having a malicious attitude. Reminds me of my pretty third grade teacher that used to bop us 'Dumb Mexicans' as she used to call us over the head with her wooden ruler. Yeah ha ha but it is true.
I sit and watch, newspeople, being judge, jury, and God. ABC News released a picture, and now their attorney, tells us what happened. I guess he was there and saw the entire incident. If he was, why is he telling the country, and not the court. We rush to judgement, without the legal system doing it's function. There is a lot of hate in this country. A hate that someone seems to love to fuel, a division, that he wants to expand. I am an American. Nothing more, nothing less. Those of you wishing to tear this country apart, I do not fear you, I feel your great hopelessness. I wish I could tell you that the way to the top, is for others to give it to you. I am sorry, it doesn't work that way. I was born dirt poor. No "Silver Spoon" in my mouth. I have worked, for everything. I have known, a lot of very good people, and yes, they were black, white, hispanic, asian. No Caps on purpose. We are all people. But we are people of this country, the United States of America. Are we perfect, H*** no, but we are better than 99% of the world.
A great tragedy happened, and our system of justice, which I need to remind people, is the best the world has ever seen. The presumption of innocence, was placed into our justice system, for a purpose. Men and women, will compose a jury, to determine guilt or innocence. This network, has decided, they are all ot this, and all they do is fan the flames of a fire. Truly, not an honest network, just a bunch of journalists who have a political agenda. That's why they make the controllers to change channels.
Gregory
Nice comment. Only one small problem with it. You put FAR too much faith in it. You give jurors far too much credibility. I've worked within the judicial system and it is far from good. I've heard jurors say "he/she is guilty or the police wouldn't have arrested them". I've seen judges asleep setting at that massive bench. And I know many attornies and judges. One of my criminal justice professors, on the first day of class, said, Is the justice system just? NO. Is the justice system fair? NO. Is the justice system legal? Sometimes.
I have lost all faith in our justice system.
Larry,
i went to jury summons once (smiles) and was called to sit for a jury, well i should say i was one of the called. forget if it was defense or prosecution that asked the question.
Q How do you feel about the criminal justice system.
A i feel it works well for the criminal! what we need is a victims justice system.
as i said i can not remember which one asked that question but i do know that both strike me. so needless to say i walked out, but i did have to sit though a 10 min talking to by the judge on the criminal justice system.
sorry reading your post may me think of that.
Larry I must with you and sometimes part did make me laugh a bit but in all seriousness the professor is right. What happens in the court room doesn't have to have anything to do with what happend in reality. It's about what you can get people to believe, what actually happend is of shockingly little importance. Remember the cops who beat Rodney King were acquitted despite the pretty damning tape of the incident. So the justice system is no the ultimate arbiter of truth or justice. People like to think of it that way and I suppose they should we can't assume the law is just of no importance but lets not pretend that we will know for sure what really happend or that somehow if someone really is guilty or innocent that will come out in court. It can and often does but that does not mean that is the way it will be.
good Move CC..try to set the stage to justify the riots if Zimmerman is acquitted. Glad to see that the Dems are playing their standard games. I guess you guys are better equipped to judge the evidence than the people in the courtroom.
the justice system is the ultimate arbiter. It might not always get it right, but it is the ultimate arbiter. Maybe you can design a better system with your intelligence.
And here we go again with storm trying to incite a riot gee how surprising is that.
But the alternative to it would be what exactly?
I agree except there is no verdict of innocent. Not guilty does not mean innocent. Not guilty just means that nobody knows for sure what happened beyond a reasonable doubt.
Remember "If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit!"? As if a professional actor can't make putting a glove on look awkward...
I agree David but in the case of OJ Simpson, Karma caught up with him in the end. Think about how much it must have sucked for him to be acquitted and be on the outside, a prisoner by virtue of his own identity in a huge world where he couldn't find one friend that didn't look at him sideways and wonder if he really did it.
I think OJ's conscience finally caught up with him. That's the reason why he's locked up now.
It's early yet but I don't see Casey Anthony having much of a happily-ever-after story either. What comes around always goes around sooner or later.
David it wasn't the glove that got OJ off it was the police planting blood evidence at OJ's mansion that did the DA in. When blood is gathered for evidence a chemical is put in the blood to keep it from drying out, it does not occur in the human body, all blood collected at OJ's had the chemical in it.
Stupid move trying to equate anything I said to be in any way in relation to a riot. Nice try....actually I take that back that was a half assed attempt do put some effort into Reading and thinking about posts before you respond to them
When did I imply that? I can't seem to find anywhere in my post where I said that and hell I wrote so I'm interested to know what you can reveal to me about my personal opinion.
The justice system is open to error and corruption as all things man creates so since you disagree how about explaining that. Explain right now why what is said in the courtroom is exactly what happened in reality in its entirety. You can have all the absolute faith you want but you're living in a dream world further evidence that shows you do not know that much about what goes on in court room. The guilty can legally go free and the innocent can be legally imprisoned whether you choose to admit that or not. A system which is flawed can not be the ultimate arbiter of truth or justice, that is mystery in the divine. We may wish to believe there is an infallible system as you do state despite trying to also claim the opposite....I mean clearly my post was saying the justice system can be corrupted and flawed so I'm curious as to why you want to disagree with a statement you yourself have claimed to believe
CC..
When I make a mistake, I own up to it and in reading the post that I responded to, I did completely misread what you had written. My apology for accusing you of writing anything that was attempting to incite a riot.
We might not agree on most matters, but I do respect your viewpoint usually.
Very well Storm I too will my response was perhaps a tad shall we say..edgy...it had a bit more spite than perhaps was necessary. I accept and thank you for your apology.
No hard feelings?
Let the discussion begin...
nugents bobble heads are limbaugh's ditto heads
If she only had a brain!!!
Well, janster, Cheney got a heart. Maybe Michele could get a brain?
If she only had a brain!!!!
It is a shame that bigots and idiots are allowed in Congress!
John D. Taylor
T he right loonies have lost any shred of descency or compassion as human beings. They are violent and will stir any pot before the election. Wow, I am very worried for our country. Anyone with half a brain knows Obama would be great in the second half of his Presidency. He is what we need to crawl out of the whole the right and stupidity put us in. Stand up and fight for your families and fellow man America.
Leslie, I have to agree with you, I'm truely worried about our country. The Right came within a hairs-breath from taking us over the clift and I'm afraid stupid voters that have already forgot what happened just 3 short years ago is going to give them another chance to finish the job.
What are all the right winger (including Palin) getting all worked up about over the Secret Service "checking her out" when she was running for VP???? Wasn't Bush president then???
Bachmann is a very stupid person, she has no idea what life is all about let along knowing what's good for this country. I could tell how stupid she was the first time she opened her mouth four years ago. Palin should take some of her co-mates advice and get off the stage, her time passed four years ago, just go home lady where ever that might be this week.. Stupid broads the both of them..
I will worry about you voters in MN if you elect this dimwit to another term, after watching her think she could come close to winning the nomination for her party of thugs. What has happened to the Republican party? Nasty, racists, bigots, women haters, stomp all over the poor, keep young ones stupid so they will vote republican for the rest of their lives and vote against their own best interest. This is not the republican party I remember from old. I have always been a dem, but voted for the person not along party lines until now. Vote republican? No think not.
The Republican Party does whatever needs to be done to control government. A lesson learned from 1860s.
Poor Republicans are influenced by rich Republicans, who will destroy government to control it. Uncivil war was declared the moment the civil war ended.
Someone let Bachmann in the back room and she's been raging in public ever since.
Q remember it was Lincoln that founded the Republican party partly....greatly perhaps one might say......as the lets move society forward away from slavery...the republican party was founded as a socially progressive party.
It was the democrats of that age also called dixiecrats who were the racists. This only changed when Barry Goldwater showed up and switched everything round and then Kennedy/Johnson solidified the democrats civil rights platform so just some history corrections.
But Bachmann is crazy I think that's self evident
Cynical,
you are right. it always make laugh when i hear ron christie, condi rice, and other repubs say that repubs started the civil rights movement. i have read alot of information written by repubs on the civil rights of blacks, and i find it interesting that the ONE thing they always leave out is the part where President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law, and the democratic party in the south all moved to the repub party.
i think that's a very important part of civil rights, one that repubs like to ignore, conveniently.
interesting break down.

Bachmann needs to shut up. If she wants to talk about phonies and failure, she needs to talk about her campaign.
It took more than 30 years to get our economy into this mess, primarily under Republican administrations. The last ten were also under Republican control of Congress and that is what caused the recession. Why? If you look at the period from the end of WWII the Republicans have spent money( not always the wrong way- the Eisenhower interstate system really created jobs) and cut taxes while doing it. They increased the deficit this way. When the Democrats had power, they had to raise taxes to get a handle on controlling the deficit. The biggest jump was under Ronald Reagan, followed by GHW Bush(who did raise taxes, but not nearly enough). Then came Clinton, who actually did get the budget balanced, only to be undone(again) by GW Bush. He reduced taxes below what we were spending, then he and VP Cheney got us into Afghanistan and Iraq, which we are only now getting out of, and refused to raise taxes for all the extra expenditures for increasingly more expensive weapons systems. This doesn't even include the price hikes in oil caused by OPEC (which the US just does NOT have any control over) and now speculators (i.e. Wall Street Banks and Hedge funds) are keeping the price of oil artificially high by about 25%. This does have a good side as it might finally convince people to go to more fuel efficient cars, as well as hybrids and all electric cars Like the Chevy Volt. Michele Bachmann should tell the whole truth not things taken out of context or the parts that reflect better for the Republicans. They have really screwed things up ( and the Democrats to a much lesser degree have, too.).
Cynical - You are so right, and if you look at the political map of 1860 and now you see the colors(red and blue) are reversed for the states in existence then and now.
Sexist pigs, all of you.
Genius Chick...
You can't be much of a genius if you think we are against women...
We love women. We despise stupid
Another case of GOP tea bagging republicans not knowing how the word they use is applied. They believe that racist, sexist, homophobic is talking about 1 individual whereas the words are describing an action against ALL people in that group based on 1 person. Another words uneducated word usage.
I am really sick of these politicians, all of them. If that's what they want, they are succeeding. How can these people call themselves intelligent? Please people, let's find some candidates that will simply tell the taxpayers the REAL TRUTH and then SOLVE THE PROBLEMS! We need selfless people in power, not selfish people or people that can lie so easily to our faces. It does not matter where they obtained their education, because I think those that went to Ivy league schools are already tainted to be liars and selfish greedy bastards. I have seen how they copy off of each other and share assignments, so ridiculous. No wonder we have so many idiots and greedy people in politics and in our government. Greed and selfishness are traits of un-evolved brains. If you are greedy or selfish, you are inferior and weak minded.
As far as Zimmerman, he has been arrested and he is now going to have his day in court. Let the process work and stop trying to threaten him. Threats make those people no better than thugs. As far as I am concerned, let's see what happens when all of the EVIDENCE is presented. Stop making suppositions and let's start looking at the history of BOTH people here, including the parents. I have a hard time believing that either one was an angel. The media and the parents paint a picture of each as perfect people, hogwash (well not so much for Zimmerman). I know young people and older people and the young people these days are selfish, greedy, lazy, weak minded and always looking for easy money rather than working hard for their money. I would say the ratio of smart, hard working young people to the lazy ones is about 1 in 5. So, for every one smart hard working young person, there are 4 lazy ones. I see this in high schools and college. Part of this is the parents fault and the rest is the fault of the media, politicians and movie/tv stars. We have so much garbage on TV instead of educating our young, we are filling them with ignorance, greed, selfishness, and immorality.
As I have said before, I have had a young person jump me and break my neck when I only wanted him to go to school or go to work instead of playing a game. If I would have had a gun or a knife and killed the kid before he broke my neck, then I would be the one in trouble. I almost died from the broken neck, so why should I not be able to protect myself from these young thugs who may have the appearance of a good kid? Why should anyone have to be hurt by a younger person and not be able to defend themselves for fear of people thinking the older person is the bad person? So do not try to tell me this 17 year old was totally innocent and would not harm a fly on the wall, I know better from real experience. Young people sometimes feel they are invulnerable and tough guys.
Again, I am not on either side, I just want people to look at this with a grain of salt.
Bachman merely throws things out just to hear herself talk. She wants a smaller government but her/family receive subsidies. Believe me she won't turn down medicare payments she receives for her husbands business.
As a retired Physician I could not help but to make some observations on looking at Mr. Zimmerman’s cuts on his scalp.1.The cuts are too clean to have occurred from repeated bashing his head on concrete.2.It appears like either he himself or with the help of some body else inflicted this wound.3. The cuts are almost on the top of the head. To cause this cut he should have been held up side down by his ankles and bashed on a knife edge. Even then it would be multiple rather than a single cut. Remember he says that Trayvon repeatedly bashed his head on concrete.4. Even if Trayvon bashed his head, the damage would be more posterior in the occipital region and not on the top of the head because of the curved shape of our head.It would be worthwhile to ask some forensic experts to comment.
