Definitely Oil Companies. Most of the repubs are for oil companies, defense contractors who are in 1 % group. Repubs don't care about the need for 99 % Americans. Nobody who are not in 1% should vote for any republicans, if they want to bring our economy back for 99% Americans.
Republicans would rather protect the oil companies, anyone but the middle class who has to buy their gas to get to work.....We have to pay at the pump.
And there is a BIG reason why repubs want to protect the oil companies....it's called $$$$$$$ in their pockets. Repubs are bought and paid for by the oil lobby.
Republicans will protect anybody that stuffs the most money into their secret off shore bank accounts. The GOP continues on it's march toward it's long term goal, becoming a full fledged criminal organization.
BigAl: Too late!!!!
Republicans stand for one thing MONEY ! There is no one who has as much money as oil company's do. Its the good old you scratch my back and I will scratch yours! They pump money into there campaign like oil! The Republicans are for the oil company's!!!! If the middle class were oil wells instead of human beings they would be putty in our hands!
The GOP are definitely standing up for the oil companies and the 1%, who pay for their support and legislation slanted in their favor. They have completely abandoned the Democratic principals the country was founded on, as is proved by their voter suppression laws. Not to mention the complete dictatorial take over of Michigan towns, throwing out all semblance of a democratically elected government.
They will stoop to anything to get their way, even to the destruction of the country, the country's credit rating, etc. They will lie and cheat, and pour millions of $ into buying elections and even bribe Supreme Court Justices to vote for atrocities like Citizens United... thus making it easier and legal for them to buy elections. Not the principals our country was founded on guys.
DScully,
As always, well said....excellent post.
Thank you!
@PAM 52, yes oil companies make billions and its not because of the tax write-offs they get, that every company in America gets. It is because they not only drill, they transport and refine. They own the market. Now you said no company has more money than the oil companies . . . ahhhh HELLO APPLE!!!
Thanks Joy.... I appreciate it. I am just so disgusted at how low the GOP have sunk and the extremes they will go to for power. McConnell stated at the beginning of President Obama's first year in office that his main goal was to make him a 1 term President.
The country was falling off a cliff economically, yet that is what the head of the GOP at the time (not counting Limpbrain) thought was the most important thing to focus on. Obviously love of country is pretty shallow with this bunch. They are unwilling to recognize the extraordinary job President Obama has done in the face of extreme challenges.... not to mention obstruction from the GOP. They won't even give him credit for taking out Osama Bin Laden!
I recently saw a discussion of what Obama has actually accomplished with the economic recovery and he has set records in the country's growth. When he came into office he had to dig the country's economy out of a hole so deep. The economy was down by -8.9 percent when Bush left office.... so it had fallen almost -9 percent which is falling off a cliff. Obama's policies have made it rise to +2 percent, that is more than a 10 percent net gain in just 3 years. That is the kind of economic gain not seen in our lifetime as far as GDP.
Our current situation is abusive, because Republicans threatened to bomb Iran, so oil investors bought up as much oil as they could, so the price went up, then Republicans blamed Obama for the price hike.
A little investor profit is OK in a free market economy. Sure, China and Mexico pay less at the pump, because oil was is a branch of government in those countries.
About 7% to 15% markup due to futures trading is fine.
The problem is that 25% of fuel price is investor profit (or more).
This is the kind of situation that justified dismantling Standard Oil.
It's no surprise that 90% or better of votes are saying Republicans favor oil companies on this issue.
Righty? OH MY.
do any of the people in this blog have a problem with a senator voting to give oil companies more subsidies then accepting donations from oil company execs? lol then you have a problem with obama! while in the senate obama voted to give oil companies subsidies then took money from oil company execs. bol are you staring at your computer screen in shock? can this be possible/ is obama politics as usual? of course he is. now as pres obama says hes against subsidies for oil companys? wtf is going on? i know this comes as a shock to you people but just ask yourself, is obama the 2nd coming as matthews said he is or is he politics as usual ? maybe you should shelve your religious adoration for this flipflopper.
Why hasn't anyone in here mentioned that the #1 profiteer on oil and a gallon of gasoline is the government? Funny, I haven't heard any Democrat politicians or other left wingers talk about giving the "little guy" a break and cutting taxes back to help us all at the pumps. In fact, in my home state of Maryland, our left wing governor, Martin O'Malley, wants to RAISE gasoline taxes. I wonder who that will affect the most? The average working Joe or the big, evil, rich guy?
If any of you have 401K, I would guess that many of them contain investments in big oil...do you have a problem with big profits then? Also, the top three taxed corporations were big oil. Higher profits = more taxes, isn't that what the left wants?
Unfortunately Republicans think Oil Companies are the more important consumers. At least after SCOTUS declared "Corporate Personhood".
LC
Actually I posted this farther down on this blog, but I'll repost it here for your convenience. Indeed.. there are many in the government who benefit from the oil companies and the lobbiest who pay for their votes.
They all belong to the GAS & OIL PARTY (GOP)
Here are the payouts by oil company lobbiests to GOP Representatives. Not one Democrat among this long list of Repugs in the Oil companies pocket.
The Gas and Oil Party
Voted against repealing subsidies to oil companies on May 5, 2011 and to further reduce regulations for off-shore oil drilling.

Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) $15,719 received from oil company lobbiests
Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) $15,000 received from oil company lobbiests
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) $30,000 received from oil company lobbiests
Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX) $212,528 received from oil company lobbiests
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) $58,450 received from oil company lobbiests
Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) $275,761 received from oil company lobbiests

Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA) $27,500 received from oil company lobbiests
Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA) $213,034 received from oil company lobbiests
So, what is your point? There are lobbyists in Washington, and oil and gas companies generally give money to politicians who share their beliefs and support their own interests (FYI many Democrats and have taken oil and gas money, Barack Obama is one).
This may shock you, but some of us want oil and gas companies to succeed, some of us want off shore drilling, some of us want cheaper energy prices. Oil and gas companies employ people, they pay taxes (Exxon Mobil paid more taxes than any corporation in 2011), they are profitable for investors (like I said if you have a good 401K, there is probably investments in energy in there).
Republicans / gas and oil are not concerned with this country. They are concerned with their pockets.
Yes, thankful mom, You are correct.Republicans and their boy Wilard care about rich people only. Poor can jump in the river, as long as big oil companies continue to make profit, and they contribute to the republican's campaign. Limbo and that Hateful Hannity were both squirming about that too. Hannity express that want to derail president out of office, is going to crash. His T-shirt with logo "let your heart be no trouble" is actually president's health care logo. Because of so called Obama care, my heart attach on Feb.1st, was taken care of by my insurance and medicare. (I am 70+++) old.
the price of gas will never go down before the election! It is one the the GOP's main talking points over which they have full control!
@FredC
We'll have to see... the gas prices normally go up and down at certain times of the year anyway. This time of year is when they normally go up, but then they usually come back down again later. Hopefully these fluctuations in the price are following their normal cycles.
Something definitely has to be done to regulate the Wall Street speculators.
Here's the thing: The GOP is for the very rich. They want to turn our Democracy into an Oligarchy. They are already on their way to having, not just the congress, but the Supreme court going full tilt toward a government of, by, and for the special interests of the corporations and the wealthy. Once they are in bed with SCOTUS, I see no way to stop them, frankly. Here will be the first bad sign: If Scott Walker is not brought down.
If Walker goes down, there is still hope.
If not, then we will know that the will of the people has lost to the Big Money and special interests of the likes of ALEC and the Koch Bros.
Right DS, the refineries close down to switch from winter oil products to summer products and make repairs caused by winter weather. As there are fewer refineries then there were in the 70's and 80's the effect on oil products are seen because the oil companies rise prices to cover having to ship finished products farther.
Hi India
Absolutely... that is the ultimate plan of the GOP and the danger they pose to our Democratic government. For Wisconsin's sake, Walker does have to be defeated. And fortunately, thecolorofchange is making progress in getting many corps to stop their support of AALEC. Of course, the Koch bros and other big money interests still need to be taken down... hopefully with a repeal of Citizen's United.
But I heard something earlier on Eliot Spitzer's show on Current that is very worrying. He had guests on talking about the chances of recovery of the middle class in the country, and it doesn't look good. At least not in the near future, and it won't happen at all if these corporate interests are allowed to keep wielding all the power in the country to keep wages low and unions powerless.
Much of the middle class was decimated do to the manufacturing jobs of the mid-west and all around the country being moved overseas. Now even if those come back... the unions are down to a low of 7% of the working population and they no longer have the power to get wage increases for their workers. Even the jobs in the auto industry that were lost before the bailout to save the industry are at an all time low in regards to wage.
Even technical jobs that used to pay $28/hr to start, now only pay $16/hr. to start and even with raises over time, their contracts limit pay increases to only $19/hr. So those workers will never be able to make those higher wages that will allow them to return to the middle class in any significant way. An until unions are able to be reinstated who can fight for better wages for those workers as the industry becomes stronger and more profitable... those workers will have very little power to change their lot or status.
Those workers will be unable to get any significant increases in their wages on their own and will remain living paycheck to paycheck and not much chance of rising in class status again. And of course, the GOP and AALEC have already started making sure those workers don't have unions to help them by passing the laws against collective bargaining and other union busting laws.
So it's all pretty scary and will make it more difficult for the middle class to recover to any degree, or gain the influence they used to have in building our economy, etc.
@whomitmay
Oh yes... I remember hearing about the close down of refineries for the changing from winter to summer products and then vise versa. I suppose I can understand how that might have some effect on production and oil costs to some extent and for a short time only.
Likewise the problems in the Middle East with countries that produce oil can have an effect. But there are also the significant and unnecessary effects caused by the speculators on Wall Street, do to lax regulations that allow them to influence oil costs... purely for their own profit and at the expense of the rest of us. And of course, it's the GOP that are protecting those on Wall street to continue by standing in the way of regulations being put in place.
I again just saw a spot on this very subject on Current, either Spitzer or Granholm's show about the effect of these speculators. One of the Kennedy's, maybe Robert Jr. or maybe it was Joe (not sure) said that oil costs could be reduced by 40% if these speculators in the oil could be restricted in their irresponsible behavior.
DScully, Thanks for the response. Yes, I've been warning about this for a while now. If we lose our unions it will be tragic for the middle class, which is currently being brought down as it is by GOP policies. Oddly enough, in many Central and South American countries the middle classes are being propped up! We are going the wrong direction, but tell it to the right-wingers!
Speculators and sabre rattling by the GOP are bringing up the price of oil, according to an oil CEO whose first name was Rex, but can't recall his last name. I got the feeling he would know and 40% was his guess, as well.
If the Mitt gets in the WH, all hope is lost as he will implement the destructive Ryan plan and inflate the defence budget. He will lower taxes on the rich and the deficit will go up. Their tax breaks, as they currently stand, add one trillion dollars a year in lost revenue. That will worsen. Just do the math!
@India
You are so right.... President Obama has worked so hard to get the economy to recover and has made progress with a record growth from -9% when he got into office to +2%, and record increase of over 10% in GDP growth.
If Robme comes in and puts in the disastrous policies he is proposing, everything will come to a screeching halt and start going in reverse. All of the progress President Obama has made will be lost and the economy will dive back into the hole GW left it in previously.
Dscully- two questions exactly how do "wall street" speculators increase the price of oil
second and more of a comment then a question what exactly did President Obama do to increase GDP? Monetary policy is not controlled by the fed- not congress or the president. President and Congress at best impact by fiscal policy- so what fiscal policy resulted in the 10% increase in GDP?
same old gop. we, the real people, who work hard, don't matter. all they care about is the rich, country club elite.
During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records. lmao obama took most m oney from bp pac

Of Course Republicans want to protect Oil Companies that's a no brainer Republicans could care less about the American CONSUMERS They want to protect tax breaks for Oil Companies
No doubt about it, oil company they don,t care a thing about us the consumer only the rich.
The Repugs don't give a Rats*ss about the
American Consumers. Only giving TAX BREAKS TO Rich and the Ultra Rich!!!!!!!!!
GennyAbbott Right you are--Republicans only care about the rich & powerful & those who are JUST LIKE THEY ARE. And I agree with India LeCarre that if Scott Walker loses & is recalled, there might be hot; if not I think we are probably sunk.
Ain't life grand?.....nothing new......we are just kept busy going in circles.
The GOP is falling an its ass because of all the oil! Boehner & Cantor have investments in Keystone and are having fits because its a failed endeavour. And they are losing their asses!
Ooops...I told you about this a month ago. Boehner is still whining about it because the whole project isn't a go yet and once again bashes Obama. The project builder is not commenting for the same reason. The People will lose again...this not a win except Koch (benefits them the most), Boehner and Cantor.
http://www.bostonherald.com/news/us_politics/view/20120322president_obama_pledges_quick_approval_of_keystone_pipelines_southern_leg/
Since when was the plan to meet America's needs for jobs and energy needs? Are the one's invovled in this scheme going to build or retro-fit refineries so we can use this oil? Not likely. It's going to cost big time in the end. I was *very* disappointed when I heard this news. Since when do whining children get what they want? Oh ya....when Koch, other oil companies, Boehner and the tp's do it.
And, a lot of the "right" chronically calls Obama a socialist, marxist or any lie they can come up with every chance they get.
And the refined oil goes to China. We get the poluted waste it takes to refine the most toxic oil known.
@Kathe and larry
Once again... the Repugs choose their own profit over the good and well being of the American people. Why are these @!$%#s still being re-elected to their positions in Congress... when they clearly do not have their voting constituents best interests at heart? Who are the ignorant sorry people voting for this lot to their own detriment?
It's so obvious...the OIL COMPANIES.
Romney already said he doesn't care about the poor people and Paul Ryan wants to snatch the rug out from under them. I can't wait for the debates to begin...
Only Barack in November 2012 !!!!
i can't wait for the debates either, toyota. romney can't even speak to people on the street with intelligence.......he should be very afraid.
Romney might as well call it quits. He will never win the election with his STUPID attitude to the american people. He's lucky that he made it this far.
Mitt is a little prissy boy!!
Hi xxx ooo
May I add that Ted Nugent is a brainless NITWIT. It sounds to me like he is actually making threats with his delusional rants, where President Obama is concerned. We have to be concerned that one of Nugent's idiot TEAbag devotees will try to follow through with those threats.
Tea baggin troll!!
It sounds to me like he is actually making threats with his delusional rants, where President Obama is concerned.
DSully, the secret service have already been in contact with him twice now, for those remarks.
@Pilotshark
Will they check into that before or after they stop chasing women of ill repute?
smiling,
well thinking and seeing the Presidents details had nothing to do with that, betting that the ones who went to have a chat with nitwit ted was not advance men (smiling if you know what i mean).
the ones who f-ed up was a advance team, not a presidential team.
xxx, some would think that derogatory, but see it as a liar who is shut up in his closet in life. Reminds me of the bachmann situation. Not such a perfect family after all. I suppose that is morman approved?
Oil Companies. Remember corporations are people too and have the power (money) to buy whatever and whoever they wish.
I wish the GOP would wash the grease off their palms once before they vote!!!
xxx ooo - Unfortunately they are covered head to toe with GREASE,90WT GEAR OIL,BUNKER OIL,TRANNY FLUID,and TAR.Good luck on getting all that cleaned off of them.
Their big woolly elephant has stepped into a tar sands pool. And is stuck with it trunk up its butt!
There is no way you can take away tax write offs for the oil companies without them returning the costs onto consumers. The oil companies are the same as the American Steel companies were. They are going to ride the high when times are good and when oil, which is traded in AMERICAN DOLLARS, is $35-$50 a barrell we hear nothing of these write-offs. These write-offs are for depreciation.
Who are the 8% in this poll. Are you kidding me??? Depreciation my asp, they are used to pay the Big Bonuses to the CEO's of these Oil Cos. American Steel Cos., went out of business by foreign steel coming into this country from the same Companies who moved their operations oversea for cheap labor, no benefits, no health care etc. Its the same story over and over again, move Industries oversea to Break the Unions, it doesn't take a college grad to figure that out!!! There is no Manufacturing in this country, NO MADE IN AMERICA anymore. Even the American Flag is made in CHINA???
Your right cause Unions in certain industries, not the labor industry, need not exist. I say this for Teachers, and civil servants.
Once again the GOP must keep the TAXPAYERS MONEY rolling into the greedy rich oil barons! But they must do what their bosses tell them!

Good article
MD/MI For President!
He has been breaking his beak for more 30 PACS!!!
VOTE for MD/MI in Novembeer! 6th PAC
WAA == What GOMER is responsible for that!!!!!!!
Wait??? NO? MD/MI is still around.
Chris cristy has been feeding at the buffet table 2 long...===###, what a looser, something like a bridge to nowhere....blaaaa!!!!! Dumb gomer.....
@Thankful Mom
Bill Maher has been calling him gov Crisco. But in his defense I might add it is extremely difficult to lose weight. And I work out every day.
Ethelouise, I wasn't really referring to his weight..t..I was talking about his spending for what he wanted while he screwed the people in his state. I sure don't belive in putting one down because of their weight. I was also trying to say some thing in honor of my friend MD.....who isn't able to post. I did do a very good imitation, and I wasn't very nice was I. Love you Ethelouise, and I'm sorry I hurt your feelers. Please for give me, but CC is a louse of a governor.
@Thankful Mom - Gov. Christie had to do what he did because teachers in NJ paid $0 for health, dental, and eye benefits and they were getting 75% of their pay when they retired. What he said was they needed to pay 2.5% of their salary for the basic benefits. It was this or he had to lay off teachers. I think he did the right thing in keeping the teachers paid and in the classrooms. They still get their retirements just have to pay alittle more now. If the average teacher in NJ makes $50K then $1250 really isnt too much for medical, dental, and eye protection. Heck here in MD the teachers pay 7%. Also NJ has the highest property tax rates and he has decided that his citizens were getting gauged there so he lowered the income tax rate from 7% to 5%. I think he is doing a decent job considering Corzine killed the state and all the Farmers in the midwests retirements.
Gov. Christy has an overactive mouth, he keeps putting food into it from NJ Taxpayer funds from the Education Budget, He cut alone, OVER $1 billion in aid to education in his state, laid off Teachers by the dozens, Laid Off Policemen, Firemen because they cost to much of the budget. He is so Big, his fat asp can't get on the helicopters anymore. He now has to go by Semi-truck to all of his campaign stops. He also cut the budget for Food aid to education in our schools. He is eating more than all the kindergarden students combined. 5% tax rate is only for Millionaires and Billionaire friends of his, the rest of the people pay the normal 15-20% or more in taxes. The Teachers pay an additional 2.5% more than they were paying before, just to keep their jobs. They are not getting the 75% you are talking about at retirement. It is based on % of their pay they receive during their lifetime of teaching. You have been listening to much to FOX FACT News, Mr Christie is wrong, period. Again stop the Lying???***
stormguy53>>the subsidies pay for the bonuses of the CEOs in the OIL Industries. They are the richest Companies in the world, they don't need them. Republicans are trying to be fair, name one thing the republicans are being fair about. Tax Cuts for the Rich, Bailouts for Wall Street, Big Banks, Mortgage Industries, Insurance Industries, that fair, it only TAXPAYER MONIES. The Republicans just Filibuster the Buffet tax plan in the Senate, same old story. Tax Breaks for the Rich is safe again!!! What is FAIR--Shared Sacrifice by all, not just the poor working middle class. Remember Romney loves firing people who work for him, Mrs. Romney only drives three caddys. Drivers make Minimum wage, so does the Nannys and House staffs. Five Houses for Romneys, one for each season, one for the Mistress, I am bad, did I say that. I am sorry. Please forgive me, I am truely sorry. I'll never listen to Fox Fact News again???
Hey Steve do you live in NJ, cause if anyone in NJ is paying 15-20% income tax they need to LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. I mean come on Jack Nut, you are way off on the teaches retirement. If a teacher works 30 years (so if they started at 21yrs old they'd be 51 at retirement) they get 75% of their last year worked for the REST OF THEIR LIFE. I might add that is longer than they worked! Also, inhere is your tax rates for people in NJ who make over 500K - 8.97%. $75-$500 - 6.38%, $50-75K - 5.53%, 35-50K - 3.53%, 20K -35K - 1.75%
You're right.... the truth must come out.
Teachers always pay into their health, dental and vision care benefits... it is taken out of their salaries on a monthly basis.
If half ton Christie said differently... he's a BIG FAT LIAR! As if we didn't know that already.
The only reason Repug governors like Christie are cutting salaries and benefits to public workers, is to pay the huge subsidies to his corporate bosses who bought his way into office. He's not working for the interests of the voters, he's working for the corporate interests who line his pockets.
Hey truth... you sure do spew a lot of BALONEY! The figures you throw out there about the NJ teacher's retirement are absurd and I know they are incorrect. Teachers, Police and Firefighters were laid off to give corporate CEO tax cuts and subsidies.
But think of this... who is more deserving of the tax payers money? Teachers spend 5-6 hours beyond their class time preparing lessons and correcting student work, giving extra tutoring to students lagging behind. They change the lives of their many students by the hundreds year after year. I know this... my parents were both teachers and so was I.
Police officers and Fire fighters risk their lives every day on the job... and put themselves on the line to serve the public. They save lives by the hundreds.
Compare that to a corporate CEO, who sits on his butt in an office and makes lots and lots of money for himself and other rich stockholders. They are involved for the most part in a completely selfish enterprise that helps nobody but themselves, they certainly aren't making a contribution to of any significance to society.
I say the teachers, police officers and fire fighters are more deserving of more of the tax payer's money considering the value of their work.... and to hell with the worthless CEOs.
Steve:
Last time I checked, the Bush tax rates effected all groups of income earners...seems like the Republicans have been helping everyone since these rates were initiated.
Maybe the dummycrats need to learn how to control spending? just an idea...
I for one would be okay with going back to the Clinton Era tax rates, if it was done for everyone. However, the current tax system cannot continue to work. It allows both sides of a political issue to manipulate the process. Until we find a way to develop a tax structure which eliminate the financial gain that ANY company or person gains from manipulating the system, we will continue to have this argument. And we will continue to have political leaders who are not looking out for our best interest, but for their personal checkbook.
Term Limits for all

Dscully...
A LARGE number of police, fire, teacher and other unions have their pension dollars HEAVILY invested in these evil corporations that you demonize. Take profits away from the companies and you are taking money out of their pocket.
Which CEO's are you referring to that are sitting on their butts in their office involved in a completely selfish enterprise that helps nobody but themselves? How is the company making money if it isn't helping anyone? Aren;t all the employees being helped by the fact they have jobs? Aren't the communities being helped by all the taxes the companies pay? What about the contributions that the companies make in paying for the workers FICA? Healthcare? etc etc.
Dig down deep now, and begin to live in the world of reality. NJ will suffer even more under the christy reign.
why is the left singling out ONE industry to change the laws against them? The tax deductions they take are the same that other companies in other industries take. the Republicans are trying to be FAIR to all businesses, the Dummycrats are trying to grandstand in order to gain political favor.
Boy are you in the minority...LOL
Boy Stormguy what are you drinking? The Republicans are just being fair are you kidding me they don't have a clue how to be fair. Tell me do you use your brain yourself to learn or do you just listen to talking points?
It's not the tax deductions, it's the subsidies. And most even get a tax rebate after paying no taxes.
What about FREE MARKET crap and no subsidies for anybody like green companies who DID NOT get any help but Big OIL DOES? How F----D up is that as "subisides" are supposed to be for DEVELOPING companies, not a mega-billionaire industry that controls the bloody PLANET and we go to more WARS over then any other!!!! Did too many tornados "blow your BRAIN away" Stormyguy 53? We are closing scools, firing teachers and children cannot get help but 4 billion MORE a year fromn the taxpayers for this polluting manipulating robbing indsutry and who hates fuel efficent cars more then anyone else so bad they led a witch hunt to deliberately spread lies about the Chevy Volt enough to halt production of the car for almost SIX WEEKS and lay off AMERICAN AUTO WORKERS? GOP FASCISTS, that's who!!!! Enough of these GREED MONGERING sots protecting these corporate GIANTS and making US pay for it and the majority of the accidents and messes they CAUSE since refusal to raise the punitive damages clause is blocked by the gop too and the same DINO dems beholden to the fossil industry over regular people and our future!!!
The oil industry is one of the only industries given the power to self regulate which consistently fails to self regulate. Why does the government allow oil companies to get away with things no other industry gets away with? Don't you get it they're getting special treatment now....
They get subsidies which aren't tax deductions, that's our money to keep their already profitable industry in business
Lets see who gets more money from oil companies dems or repubs....hmmm....I wonder what it could be....which of the two is willing to take for the oil companies that should give you hint stormy boy
Oil companies are picked.....if I see it it's bs...what are ya doin'?
teresa: Forget it in ear and out the other.......
Fair? Really? How can you possibly defend that position? Oil and Gas are Natural Resources that are FINITE. So Oil and Gas Companies are essentially taking hold of the supply to later sell at a premium. First, the auto industry lobby to ensure we keep using Oil, and their buddy who owns the oil company now holds the majority of the oil. Who wants some? I bought it at $50/barrel but will gladly sell it to the unfortunate middle class for $4/gallon or $168/barrel (42 gallons in a barrel). They are holding the consumer hostage for choices they cannot and do not make. They are taking advantage of their financial clout to squeeze and withhold the needs of the consumer.
Using Democratic logic...please list one oil company that did not pay any taxes in the last 10 years.
The subsidies that the oil companies receive, like writing off the cost of renting equipment and drilling for oil, is a standard tax deduction for every other business in the US. Please show me an example of a tax subsidy that they receive which is not similar to a tax deduction that other companies can take.
I am not saying that there aren't any, but take this chance to educate instead of attack.
Why, ask the postal workres, ask police and fire men and women, ask the teachers, ask the construction wokers, ask the everyday worker trying to make ends meet or should I say meat on the table for thier kids. Truly don't believe such a question was asked.
I am all for eliminating all tax deductions for everyone...
www.fairtax.org
it makes everything fair
BS tax.org you mean another tax gift to the wealthy. Yep thats good old storm for you, anything to protect the wealthy from paying their fair share.
Stormguy, much like a neutered dog, you don't get it. Name ANOTHER industry that has made more profits in the history of mankind than any other yet still recieves 4 billion in tax 'Subsidies' to help them find more oil?
Larry What are the names of the companies that pay no taxes but get a tax rebate???
Try looking up BP. For starters.
Why should we allow them to right off these costs if their business is drilling for oil......why do need shield them from the risks of their business which they can very easily afford on their own?
The point is not what the subsidies are the point is that they get subsidies and they are an immensely profitably industry thus negating the point of subsidies. They receive money from us that they do not need so people are upset that they are fracking our land and not disclosing what chemicals they use or at least not wanting to disclose what they use, meanwhile they are fracking our pocket books at the pump, and fracking our political process by buying off politicians to continue to get the money that they don't need in subsidies
Another bone I have to pick with big oil....flaming. They've been doing it for 50 years that I know off....maybe a lot longer. Why are they allowed to burn off this good energy source and then frack for the same resource and polute our water? Makes absolutely no sense to me.
Stormy great post. You are 100% correct. The oil companies do not get a subsidie they get tax write-offs for depreciation which total in the billions. For those who think green energy doesnt get money your FREAKIN CRAZY. Green energy gets subsidies and they get tax writeoffs to the tune of $1 billion from the stimulus that we know of. I think venture capitalist founded these "Evil" oil companies and its time venture capitalists change and discover true "green energy"
@ John in Texas - The reason the oil companies have made so much money is because they believe in capitalistic principals. They started with venture capitalists with no government subsidies. They have expanded globally to enlarge their brand, and they have decided that it is important to keep money away from the USA because we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world. Really lets punish corporation for making money. HELLO JACK NUTS that is what they are supposed to be doing.
Larry
BP paid 12.7 billion in taxes in 2011. It's in their annual report. I'll teach you how to read one if you like.
Do you have any more fiction to share with us.
You're a real character. Busted again!!!
Actually a good start would be throwing out the entire existing tax code and rewriting it from scratch. 71 thousand pages is ridiculous. It makes filing for small companies and individuals needlessly complicated.
If we must be taxed at all, a flat tax is the only sensible way to go. That way when you make more, you pay more, but everyone pays the same percentage. It would eliminate the whining that the rich don't pay enough.
71,000 pages is nothing . . . there is over 3 million words!
You people can sure make me laugh. Tell me 'ol great karmac, what is the difference between the goverment giving big oil 4 billion, and letting them keep 4 billion in taxes they where required to pay? Brain boy, if you want to get kicked in the teeth and say 'Thank you sir, may I have another'? every time you use a gas pump then go right ahead. Apparently it's happened one to may times in your case but 70% of us would rather tell big oil to suck it up yourself, we're not paying for it anymore.
A flat tax is a stupid idea. Reagan, Clinton and every other U.S. would never do this. We've never actually had a flat tax for a reason. The math will not work it's just as foolish as 999.
It would lower revenue drastically while taking more from the middle class job creators. The rate would have to be very high to account for the money that wouldn't be coming in, it just won't work. There is nothing wrong with the tax bracket structure. Taxes really aren't complicated when you leave or so many arcane right offs and loopholes. Taxes are complicated mostly for those who have tons of money
Oil gets tax write offs and subsidies. Truth that is a lie. They get subsidies and they need none. Why should we help an industry that doesn't need help. That's not "fairness" that's stupid and a waste. Big oil gets rich by manipulating the system by buying off lawmakers, it's not capitalism it's crony capitalism.
We had the minerals management service, they were paid to do regulation and turns out because of the gulf oil spill we learned they weren't doing any. We still don't have a serious oversight over big oil. How many industries were involved in the largest man made environmental disasters in American history and still have yet to be sufficiently regulated?
Largest man made environmental disaster, threatening public health and safety, killing 11 people, threatening thousands of jobs, lying about their rediness to clean up spills like this which they are legally supposed to have.......criminal prosecutions, zero. Can you say that for any other sector?
@debbiew
Stormguy has most likely been drinking that funny TEA that rots the brain.
Seems to me, a few months back, there was a Congressional hearing about oil subsidies. The men present admitted that they didn't need them to the panel. They said that they don't want to change the arrangement....and they just get away with it. Why do their desires over ride our *need* from the income of *our* oil? This tells me that they didn't want to get off corporate welfare. How Patriotic that the biggest money makers want *our* oil for just about free and adding to the deficit. That's not a fair market practice....it's legal theft.
They also let us in on a little "secret". Oil speculation adds about $40 (just under 40%) to the cost of a barrel of oil. Think about that while you're filling up your gas tank.
@Cynical.... I haven't posted this item for awhile regarding the payouts by oil company lobbiests to GOP Representatives. Not one Democrat among this long list of Repugs in the Oil companies pocket.

Storm
What an idiotic question. Here's one.... Exxonmobile... any taxes they pay in comparison to the profits they make equal 0, which is offset by the subsidies they get in tax payer money from the Repugs they have in their pockets.
The most current list can be found directly above.
eugenie
GE is one company that pays 0 taxes and gets a huge return anyway. The GE that owns MSNBC in fact... and the hosts of most of the shows on this network have pointed that out themselves.
Hey John
It seems that Stormguy, eugenie and the truthster have all been drinking the same crazy TEA. It seems to have the effect of rotting the brain and making them talk loonie.
@Cynical
That's right.... a flat tax won't work. First of all, because the Repugs would insist that the tax be extremely low so as not to over burden their fictional version of "job creators" the rich and corporate interests. This would of course not bring in enough revenue to pay for the country's obligations, much less leave anything to pay off the huge deficit. Of course the Repugs answer would be cuts to the safety net services of Medicare/Medicaid, etc. as usual.
But then, if the flat tax rate was set high enough to meet the country's obligations and enable paying off the deficit, it would be too high for those in the lower/middle classes who have been hit the hardest by the past 30 years of "trickle up" economics. It would take far too much of their wages for them to survive.
In the name of fairness and equity between the 1% and the 99%, and to make up for the past 30 years of stagnant wages of the middle class... those in the 1% and earning a million $ or more need to pay far more until the financial situation has a chance to equal out.
And as it took 30 years for this unequal situation between the middle class and rich to be created, it might also take as long or longer to be corrected. So the millionaires better get used to finally paying their fair share or more for some time to come.
Okay...so no one can show proof that an oilcompany paid NO taxes in any given year during the last 10 years.
No one can show an example of a "subsidy" that the oil company receives which no one else receives.
Dscully wants reparations for the 99% ers.
CC fails to recognize that the current tax system can't continue to work. As a matter of fact, no system will work until we learn that the amount we spend is dependent on the amount we make, not vice versa.
Whom shows (as usual) no knowledge of the subject and simply attacks without facts.
JIT confirms that the oil industry is being singled out by this stupid idea.
Very interesting...
Dscully...
The only reason there aren't any Dummycrats on that list is because you did not include them. Whereas the oil companies do not contribute as much to the Dummycrats, about 25% of their political contributions do go to the jackass party. If they were not getting something back for their investment, I am sure they would stop making the contributions.
BOTH SIDES ARE CORRUPT.
2 points for the Scorm
It's not a matter of repartations... it's a matter of FAIRNESS after nearly 3 decades of UNFAIRNESS. It's about building the middle class back up WHO MADE THIS COUNTRY GREAT AND ARE THE REAL JOB CREATORS, before they disappear completely.
If that happens, the USA will be on it's way to becoming another third world country... comprised of a minority of very rich and the majority population in poverty. Of course, this is what the GOP and their corporate bosses have in mind, a powerless working class who can't fight back against unfairness in the system.
I gave the complete list of ALL those who voted to CONTINUE SUBSIDIES FOR THE OIL COMPANIES, naturally they are all members of the GAS & OIL PARTY. Apparently NO DEMOCRATS belong to that party.... just the spiritually and morally corrupt Repugs/TEApugs meet those qualifications.
Democratic Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Mark Begich (D-Alaska), voted against the bill.
Did MD/MI get banned? what a shame...
MD/MI say's I'll BE BAAACK!!!!
And he's a hunter! R U game?
MD/MI taken some time off for some R&R
maybe a talon upgrade.
Indeed tungsten carbide steel tipped sharpened by a ninja!
I wasn't going to FTT. But I will say a big hell........O,
and look forward to his return.
MD/MI will be back. I need somebody to tell me who Ted Nugent is and was. Never heard of this ugly jerk. He needs to be investigated, that's for sure! Inciting gun nuts is hardly a good idea in this toxic environment.
And exactly where was the left's outrage when the NBPP was calling for the kidnapping and murder of a US citizen?
india

India
You've never heard of Ted Nugent? What you saw and heard him saying is pretty much all there is to see. There is nothing that can be considered remotely thoughtful, discerning or clever about him or his attitudes.
He's basically a old, rundown, uncouth, ignorant TEAbag has-been rocker who will never achieve or contribute anything of significance to society. So he clings to his guns and raunchy rhetoric in order to feel he is still relevant. NOT!
He's pretty much on the same level of importance in society with Hank Williams Jr. Another ignorant TEAbagger who spews ugly things about President Obama as he did last year on the Fox propaganda network.
HI tc
When and why did Md/Mi get banned?
I guess second thought we all know why he was banned!!!
Anyone have the link to when he was banned???
HI Scully
Hope you are having a good day. i don't have much to say tonight as this is a little outside what i know about but i may put in a lick or two about how the market works. What i wonder though is does anybody understand that if the costs to an oil company or for that matter any company go up they normally offset it by raising the price? believe it or not all taxes to corporations are paid for by the consumers Corporations only appear to pay but ultimately we all end up getting the tax bill built into what we buy. . they are not going to eat a tax increase so fair or unfair if oil company costs go up so will the price of gas and plastic, and heating oil etc that I am positive of. So to me it seems like shooting yourself in the foot. Am I missing something here i would really like to know?.Gas right now in France is about $9 a gallon they pay the same for a barrel of oil that we do the differences is taxes.
"I guess second thought we all know why he was banned!!!"
why don't you tell me why. as i am here often so i fall under the "we all know"
this is a re post of mine from further down the line. i thought it went along ith the conversation here about subsidies.
GUYS
I found something that is fun to play with. this site lists all countries and their price for gas. it also has comments as to how their price varies with other countries. In other words some countries actually subsidize the oil companies much more than we do resulting in much lower prices while other countries add taxes instead and they pay much more than we do. I found this very interesting to see how we fit into the world of oil subsidies. check it out and run through the list . I would really like to hear comments about what we do here compared to other countries.
http://chartsbin.com/view/1115
Oh Yeah
the prices are in liters so multiply by four to get the gallon price formula is 4 liters =1.005 gal. so it will be very close but the us price is also in liters so it will compare fairly.
Eddie these poll questions are getting more and more obvious. But to back that up is just as obvious, just follow the money.
FOX news is it news for idiots?
Polls show Faux News watchers are the "most uninformed viewers".
Barack in 2012 !!
Does a gomer gloat,.......what a shame, Oh my .....did need a pol for thay one, Toy.
Hey Toyota your back at the bashing again. I believe that FOX news does a decent job at getting out the things that MSNBC twists. With any cable news network there will be bias. I believe each approach and issue with a certain agenda. It just happens that you, Toyota, doesnt agree with Fox. Hannity, and the Five folks are true conservatives that wont change their minds on issues however they have more middle of the road commentators than NBC, ABC, CBS, and MSNBC.
stormguy53 1/2-- All Oil companies PAY NO INCOME TAX IN 2011. Exon mobile got $50 million back from the Gov't. I am retired and I paid 20.9% in tax this year. FAIR that's FAIR right??? You are full of ship!!! Son of a Beach!!!
Hey STEVE check your liberal media source CNN: Exxon MOBIL is an INTl company and they paid over $15 Billion in taxes (yes they got a tax return in the USA but paid over $13 Billion worldwide.
Why arent you dogging GE, they got back over a billion $$$ from the IRS. At least Exxon only got $15 million in 2010. What about BoA they also got over $2 Billion back from the USA as well as the bail out money in 2010.
You need to just shut up. All companies get write offs for Int'l profits as they should. Its time for total tax change.
Another brainchild that thinks the bush tax cuts and reaganomics were good for the entire country.
You can spin it anyway you like but you admit that they get subsidies, you should be smart enough to know they are a very profitable industry and are not in danger of shutting down so that means you admit it is not a good policy
no matter which way you want to go in this big oil subsidies are illogical
Government does not and should not treat all businesses the same because all businesses are not the same call this unfairness if you like but he who defends every thing wins nothing. Government can never treat all companies exactly the same it is just posssible, that's not reality.
If you dispute this explain why exxon should get subsidies and because other companies do will not be an acceptable answer for me since I'm not asking about other companies
must come out:
You and Storm.....deny all you want. You're only fooling yourselves.
A few months back, there was a Congressional hearing about oil subsidies. The men present admitted that they didn't need them to the panel. They said that they don't want to change the arrangement....and they just get away with it? Why do their desires over ride our *need* from the income of *our* oil? They also let us in on a little "secret". Oil speculation adds about $40 (just under 40%) to the cost of a barrel of oil. Think about that while you're filling up your gas tank.
I just love these names they tout........It outs them every time. They need some originality lessons.
@Kathe
Exactly... Big Oil are thieves who the GOP acquiesce to while they stuff their pockets with lobbiest money, their votes bought and paid for. The GOP are in partnership with these thieves to cheat the taxpayer and rob the country's future.
Steve:
The comment from Larry was that oil companies paid no taxes. I am still waiting to see proof that an oil company paid NO taxes....
Like I said in the beginning..I am using Dummycrat logic. Since Larry and other bloggers on this site and other left wing sites have long contended that the 45%-50% of the citizens in this country who are not paying income taxes in this country in reality do pay taxes because they pay sales tax, property tax, etc.... Well, the corporations are the exact same thing. In addition to that, they pay a matching amount on all employees FICA. So, the oil companies do pay taxes.
It's like a movie I seen before the same plot everytime GREED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scrooge would be a saint !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next to these clowns !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would rather see Scrooge run for president than Romney.
But Ted Romney IS Scrooge.
At this point I would rather have Scrooge Romney than Josef Obama!
I'LL take OBAMA, every time. Can't wait until 2012 can you.
ETHELOUISE - Scrooge wasn't a mormon like Romney.
TM
You got that right. I can't wait for Nov 2012, and Obama/Biden all the way!
Ted
Now what does Mormon have to do with being a Scrooge? Yes.... Robme is a Scrooge, but that has more to do with his being Repugnicon and a self-serving 1%er. It's not something he learned from his religion, but was a quality he learned despite his religious training.
Honestly... members of the LDS church are good, charitable, law-abiding and yes.... Christian people. Their lives revolve around serving in Christ's name and following the teachings of Jesus Christ of charity and love.
So please don't think that Mitt Robme's attitudes in anyway are related to his religion. His attitudes and the person he is come strictly from his politics, the politics of the GOP/TEAp and his seeming feelings of entitlement because of his wealth.
I'm just sayin... let's separate out this religious identity from the rest of his inexcusable behaviors. After all... we don't appreciate the Repugs trying to brand President Obama with being Muslim or some sort of radical because of his previous Pastor. But some are engaging in that same thing regarding Mormonism.... and apparently posting anti-Mormon links.
Not cool people!
D.SCULLY - Scrooge never invested in OFF-SHORE accounts now did he ?
Scully
I don't think I ever mentioned it but i am from Jackson County Missouri. many years ago I was interested in family tree and went out to the center and they were really helpful in me finding our heritage. I worked with a Mormon land salesman when i was doing marketing in Taos. We became friends i must say his five kids looked amazingly healthy rosy cheeks good complexion.and were in good physical shape they kind of stood out when you saw them together. They had never had a coke in their lives. He was a very good salesman and very friendly to everybody. he was well know for being generous to local charities every time he made a commission he made a donation to something local. The sales manager recruited him from Park City where I heard he was a top guy there also.
Of course, it is the oil companies --- those are the ones who line the pockets of republicans with money.
Romney is so stupid as to release his tax returns just before the November election.
A 6- month extension puts him right into October...A real business man would have had his taxes ready to file by today....Like President Obama...and Joe Biden...
Whatcha hiding Mitt.??? We know you only pay 13% and where's the rest of the years.
TOYOTA - When are they going to realize that he's hiding his money in offshore accounts ? That's what's going to stop him from becoming president.
Apparently you dont have to file your tax returns cause you are on the government dole. A 6 month extension doesnt necessarily mean that he will take 6 months to release his money. His taxes are 200% more complicated due to money he received from his investments and charitable deductions. His offshore accounts are the same as yours if you have a 401K that has stocks in Mutual funds run by UBS (a Swiss Company), ING (another European company)
Everyone raise your hand if your 401 K is handled by a Swiss or 'another european' investment company. That's some funny S*** righ there...LOL.
JIT...There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Americans who have their 401k's managed by companies like UBS and ING. these companies employ thousands of people in the US, pumping millions of dollars into the US economy.
Do you have a problem with that?
You mean pumping billions into the banks of the Caymen Islands.
My friend MD and Chris Matthews Say that Christy Christy is running his state into the ditch.........WHAT A DEEEEEEEK!!!!!!
that's true, t-mom. i'm from so. jersey. so many people hate what he's done to teachers and other public workers. he's such a blow hard with a major attitude.
MD Gotum?
I went to a Union shop today and got a keg of Gomer-B- Gone! Good stuff!
@KV - teachers paid $0 for benefits and got 75% of their pay with free benefits in their retirement. It was time for them to pay into their retirement. It was either the 2.5% they have to pay or they got laid off. Apparently you would rather have less teachers in the classrooms or even higher property taxes. On top of actually saving thousands of teaches jobs he also decreased the income tax rate in NJ cause he feels you all and my inlaws pay way too much in taxes already. I think in those areas he has done a fine job. If he detracted from his principals and the reasons he got elected it was when he let the vote for gay marriage go through.
You can't be talking about Gov. Christie, are you? What the heck are you smoking??? He laid off more people in the State than he Saved. Better get your facts right. TAXES are going up as we speak. Who are you kidding??? The Truth must come out-- Who do you want to teach your children, the Janitor. Remember Newt wanted our kids to earn money for their education by taking the Janitor's job in our schools. Who need an Education, certainly not YOU, you know everything, right??? Gov. Christie my asp???
@kv
Someone reported a poll recently that said Christie was up in the polls in NJ. How can that be true.... considering what a bully he is and the crappy way he treats the workers in his state?
@Steve
truthster and his friends have been drinking too much crazy brain rotting TEA!
Dscully...
There are more private sector workers in the state than there are public sector workers and they are tired or paying outrageous tax rates to support people who get better benefits than they do.
@D S, they do go on, and on and on, don't they!
TM, I have an Aunt in Toms River, NJ, and they just despise Christie, ditto friends in NY.
Someone reported a poll recently that said Christie was up in the polls in NJ. How can that be true.
wonder if it the same one showing Walker leading in Wisconsin.
The stormguy has really got it figured out if someone is getting a better pay and beifits that's a reason to take that away??? I think I would support them and ask for the same instead of lowering them to his low class level. Higher pay makes for a better economy but I guess he thinks only a republican can do this! Ha Ha Ha Drinking the Tealaid too long!
The stormguy has really got it figured out if someone is getting a better pay and beifits that's a reason to take that away??? LOL...you are so funny XXX....
Consumers are tired of seeing their tax dollars go to pay for state employees getting benefits which most businesses can not afford to fund.
Stop reading all your Dummycrat talking points and start living in the real world.
@Scorm
Maybe they should try JOINING A UNION, if they want better benefits. There is something to be said for COLLECTIVE BARGAINING.
@TM
Yes, they certainly do go on and on and on...
India
I don't blame them. I've never seen anything the least bit redeeming about Christie. He's just a nasty piece of work.
@Pilotshark
Yeah... I saw the same poll, and I can't believe it either. I had the same response. How is that possible?
@xxx ooo
LOL... exactly. Wouldn't a more intelligent response be to see the people getting better benefits, better wages, better working hours and conditions and say... "Hey.... how can I get in on that deal."
But Scorm's brilliant idea is "Oh no... we have to take away those better wages, benefits, working hours and conditions... and force those guys to work harder for less with no opportunity for advancement like the rest of us idiots."
I guess his attitude is based on... if we have to suffer, so do they! It doesn't make any sense. It's a good thing not all of us have been as ignorant as that or there never would have been a middle class in this country.
You mean the money that is coming out of my paycheck to cover the state employees? Yeah, lets unionize everything and watch inflation rise through the roof in order for companies to afford to pay for the new benefits for all the workers and the higher salaries.
Wow...what a brilliant plan from the left...no wonder the Dummycrat Senate can't pass a budget. No wonder this country is financially bankrupt from years of Dummycrat control of the HOR.
Republicans are simply on the oil company's payroll. They get paid more from the oil companies than we can pay so they do the bidding of big oil, ALEC and the Koch brothers.
