Ann Romney made a comment about Hillary Rose's comment about working mom. She was pleased that Hillary made that comment and it was her birthday present early! So all that bitching and complaining about Hillary was jut a put on! Romney and his cronies are all rich liers! Now she has changed her tune, and says that it was a gift that people were talking about working mothers! What a change, she has just Etch -a sketch attitude just like ol' Willard!
It would be helpful if people understood what "welfare reform" means. It means that one must be available for work within a short time of giving birth; the exact amount of time depends on the state, but I'm not aware of any state where mothers can receive TANF benefits for as long as two years without working. TANF provides sub-poverty aid (not always cash benefits) to those who meet the job search requirements, etc. If one is unable to secure employment before her life-time limit is up, tough. If you have used up those benefits and then lose your job, social services (at least in WI) can "take indefinite custody" of your child on the vague grounds of "failure to adequately provide." I would think any mother could understand the fear faced by mothers in poverty because we chose to "get tough" on them. Just imagine losing your job, which is a great hardship in itself, but to then have your child taken from you amounts to a degree of barbarism we really didn't think this country would embrace.
DHBranski, Well, they're embracing it now. The Ryan budget will make billions in cuts to the food stamp program and most food stamp recipients are children of the working poor or the unemployed.
There is no safety net for child care or bus fare to get to those low paying jobs, either. I just love a compassionate conservative. Their philosophy: You're on your own! From now on all welfare goes to the rich!
Their philosophy: You're on your own!
the new YOYO party
Ed is such a joke. You can certainly tell MSNBC is running scared seeing the news polls showing Romney leading Obama. Ed and company will spend the next few months distorting information to try and favor liberals. Unfortunately for Big Ed MSNBC viewing audience is quite small and has no impact on a national election.
You're dreaming again, or you've been watching those lying FOX polls haven't you? Maybe you need glasses. Or a brain.
The lady from Wisconsin that says the legislators think for themselves, is right. That is where their interests lay. They think of themselves and adopt ALEC's designed policy for a hand full of money. Money is what drives the GOP and the greedy. So, she must think we are stupid. There is a reason why corporations an the members of the top 5% of the elite pay the membership fee to ALEC. They do not give away money for nothing. They do not Lobby or bribe to get nothing in return.
affromi, Our Democracy is clearly not representing the people of this country anymore. Our congress is being run by money from special interest lobbyists. I no longer see that what the average American needs and wants will ever make a difference again. I have truly lost hope in the system. We are currently living in an oligarchy, and moneyed interests, thanks to Citizens United, ALEC and the damnable Koch brothers are going to keep it that way.
We need to wake up to the fact that we have already lost. We need to try to figure out what to do about it and end the ignorance and complacency. Just look at what Wisconsin went through with Scott Walker. The Koch brothers poured in tons of money, ALEC poured in money, and now the democrat is five points behind Walker already!!
I do not get it. They could pour ten million onto my plate and I still would not buy their bull@!$%#. America is asleep at the wheel. I see a big tractor-trailer heading her way! I don't know what people can do to overcome this egregious condition.

CNN Poll: Gender gap and likeability keep Obama over Romney
Posted by
CNN Political Editor Paul Steinhauser
(CNN) - President Barack Obama holds a nine-point lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney thanks in part to the perception that the president is more likeable and more in touch with the problems facing women and middle class Americans, according to a new national poll.
A CNN/ORC International poll released Monday also indicates a large gender gap that benefits Obama, but the public is divided on which candidate can best jump-start the economy.
According to the poll, 52% of registered voters say if the presidential election were held today, they would vote for the president, with 43% saying they would cast a ballot for Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is making his second bid for the White House. The poll was conducted Friday through Sunday, a few days after former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania suspended his bid for the GOP nomination. Even though former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas continue their long-shot bids for the nomination, Romney is now generally considered the presumptive nominee.
The survey indicates women voters back Obama over Romney by 16 points (55%-39%), virtually unchanged from an 18-point advantage among women for the president in CNN polling last month.
The poll was conducted two days after Democratic strategist and CNN contributor Hilary Rosen created a controversy by saying that Ann Romney "never worked a day in her life."
"That remark may have little long-term effect on women voters," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "By a two-to-one margin, the women surveyed saw President Obama as more in touch with the problems facing American women today."
Half of those questioned say that Obama is more likely to stand up for what he believes, with only 29% saying that about Romney. Nearly half say that Romney is more likely to change his position on the issues for political reasons, just 39% saying the same thing about the president. Obama has double-digit leads over Romney on likeability, honesty, confidence, values, leadership and almost every other characteristic tested, with one important exception.
"Obama and Romney are essentially tied on who is more likely to get the economy moving again, and that may provide Romney an opening to chip away at Obama's current overall lead," says Holland.
According to the poll, Obama holds a 48%-43% margin over Romney among crucial independent voters. The survey also indicates s generation gap, with all age groups, except those 65 and older, backing Obama. And the poll points to an income divide, with the president holding a 20-point lead over Romney among those earning less than $50,000 per year, while those making more than that figure divided between the two candidates.

Thanks for the post, Chris. A good one. A recent Gallop poll showed a two point difference of 47-45. Troubling.
The CNN poll is not only outdated but does not use likely voters which makes a big difference. Both Gallup and Rasmussen show Romney leading. More importantly they both show men favoring Romney heavily over OBama with Obama's likeability rating among men in the toilet. Obama's lies are catching up.
So are yours. The date on the poll is today's date, five hours ago.
instead of cherry picking your favorite poll , why not use the rcp poll average which shows obama leading mitt by 2 points, which is within margain of error. terrible news for obama. or you can play (my favorite poll) until nov.
Ah because that poll is as useless as a tea bagging republican. Yep like I figured a right wing hack site that shows Romney as the winner despite all evidence pointing to the fact that not even tea bagging republicans can stand Mittens.
whom how many times do i have to correct you? cnn poll has obama winning by 9 points. wash post abc poll has obama winning by 8 points. fox poll has romney leading by 2 points. now if you go to the rcp poll averages you will see poll average has obama winning by 2 points. cnn poll is off by 11 points, wash post post is off by 10 points, fox poll is off by 4 points. obviously the fox poll is the most accurate. now you must agree this is better than cherry picking polls? in the future lets agree with using the rcp poll average. instead of searching the web trying to find a poll we like. agreed? by the way the fox poll was more accurate than cnn and wash post in the final days before the 08 election. notice i corrected you without insulting.
'Obviously the fox poll is more accurate'. Isn't that an oxymoron?
Slow new day evidently. Must not have gotten around to the fact that Eric Holder holds a pricey $16 coffee, etc, gig for the DOJ out west and is defended by Obama. Then along comes Martha Johnson... Gone! Women must not be allowed the same discretions as men in some jobs.
Then, South of the border- let's just say "LET THE PARTY BEGIN!!!" This one is funny in that a few short years ago, and to this day, Democrats on Capital Hill and across Blogland defended such boorish behavior with all they had. Excuses like "It was just a bj" and "she was a slut" and "she was a nut" were readily accepted.
Now the Dems throw a party in Cartegenia and Vegas and manufacture anger at those hosting.
You know there were some Republican Secret Service people in there don't you? Just because it's a Dem administration doesn't mean all the Secret Service are Dems. It would be interesting to know just how many of them ARE Reps. And married Reps at that.
There we go!!! I was wondering how the defense of this would start. I'm surprised no one tried the "Monica is a Republican" defense. How about Vegas? Don't disappoint me by not defending that.
I'm not defending it, but you sound like you think everyone involved in this is a Dem from Obama on down. Well you would be wrong Rustbucket.
It reads as if you were using that time worn 3rd grade excuse- "your side did it too".
And- I guess it is your opinion that Obama is involved? I hadn't heard that- so it is an interesting comment from you.
LOL...Don't hurt yourself grabbing for those straws Rusty.
Rusty, I see that you must be a Republican. Perhaps you could tell me why they are so insistent upon our Democracy going down the tubes and becoming (or HAS become) an oligarchy. Why are you and they so intent on America's downfall. Can you explain that to me?
Talk about disappointed. Why aren't you disappointed in the way your party is contributing to America's downfall? Because, Rusty, it is true, you ARE! Every time you vote Republican you are contributing to our Democracy becoming a total oligarchy. Don't you see what your party is doing or what?
I honestly don't get it. What happened to your patriotism? The handwriting has been on the wall for years now; why can't you decipher it?
Rusty starts arguments and then ridicules anyone who argues with him.
I guess he thinks it's a winning tactic.
India- not for sure what you are referencing? Your first paragraph is a conveyance of ideas that you think I said? America's downfall? I would suggest that Europeanizing our economy- a popular concept among liberals several years ago- would indeed lessen America. Making the economic pie bigger tends to help Americans- though a few- (indeed, on this blog, a great majority) get all tangled up in the concept of slicing the pie as fairly as possible. As for patriotism- why would you suggest that? Have I ever question your patriotism? Is patriotism only reserved for people who think as you do?
Chris- you and Tex are normally easy targets...
How is a centrist like Obama Europeanizing our economy? Do you say this because of his pushing the Buffet rule? I just wrote the IRS a nice check and it was at a hell of a lot higher rate than Romney's. I don't mind paying my taxes, but this pledge to Norquist is costing a revenue deficit of one trillion dollars a year as it is, and the GOP wants to LOWER it further! Are they kidding about their concern for the deficit?
Of course patriotism is not reserved just for people like me, but how patriotic is it to vote for a party which is turning this country into an oligarchy? Our representatives are totally ignoring the will of the people in favour of the corporate interests and the very wealthy. Do you not agree?
do you agree anyone can pay more in taxes if they chose? buffet and obama chose to pay less than their secretaries. you must be hooping mad at them.
Rusty, you and the rest of the trolls have no idea how silly you all look with your manufactured outrage and redundant repetitive postings, do you. Maybe you should send in the second team of trolls, you'all have gotten so boring that your comments barley merit a response. It would be sad if it wasn't so pathetic.
Actually, Tex- I'm not angry at all. I am having fun.
India- like him or not- Obama is governing well to the left of a centrist. He may not be as far left as he wants to be, but there is an election. As he told the President of Russia- he would be able to do more once the election was behind him. As well- the GOP has forced him more to the center than he would have liked.
I don't disagree with your assertion that we are becoming an oligarchy. Maybe disagree on causation, though. I do recall Obama promised to be the "open" President. Quite possibly the most behind closed door President we've had since Nixon. Check any of the fact checker sites- they normally rate him "fail" on that promise. Another example of what you are talking about might be the infamous quote from Pelosi- "We won!!! We will write the bills". Isn't that a good example of your oligarchy? You shouldn't vote for that party. But... I still think you may be a Patriot...
Here's more infamous quotes:
'We will make Obama a one term president'. (No matter how bad we tank the economy)....Sen Mitch McConnell.
'Nothing will pass this senate'. (Mitch was correct. A Record number of filibusters proves it).
Yep- both sides have been idiots. I wouldn't defend the GOP for anything they've done in the intermediate past. And- if I were a Democrat, I'd say the same.
Heck- I gave a bunch of liberal backers a chance over the last week. I posted on a number of items about the SS in Columbia. All any liberal had to say was that it was terrible, and they should be held accountable- just like Obama said. Yet, because it was on Obama's watch- to the person, they defended or justified the acts.
I brought up the goofball gal with the statement on Romney's wife. All any of them had to do was to agree with Obama. But- as liberals, they- to a person- disavowed Obama's stance and ripped into Mrs Romney. Not a one of them was smart enough to say that Obama had already addressed it and it was a moot point. That the Democrats were for all women- no matter their social status. They just couldn't bring themselves to do it. Tex- you might have been involved with these foolish thoughts as well. I don't recall if you jump on them of if you were just being goofy on other things.
I have a question, in regards to the idea that Romney has over and over stated the fact that lower taxes for the 'job creators' will create jobs and this is the element that he claims he has mastered in his years of job creation at Bain, what have the years of lower taxes for Romney brought forth in his own personal investment into creating jobs from his own 'gold mine' ?
Does anyone know?
It's a fair question to ask if investing in the economy actually creates (or saves) jobs. I would suggest that it would. Over the years, many members of Congress must have thought the same, because they've built investment income into the rates differently than income. Things like muni bonds have tax free income. Gains made on capital deployment, if held to the standard of long term, typically have a lower rate as well.
Are you suggesting there is no job creation from capital investment?
Well, Rusty, I'm about to suggest that Bush had the worst job creating record of any president besides Hoover, and Romney, when governor of Mass. had an abysmal record of creating jobs. Indeed, Romney's career was one of gaining great wealth at the expense of workers! He was a corporate raider. They END jobs.
What creates jobs is a middle class that can afford to buy things. (That is fading fast.) Supply and demand creates jobs. Capital investment tends to make the wealthy wealthier.
Reni Kay, Just ask yourself how well Bush did with that brilliant idea. Look at the vulture chart. OK, I'll spell it out: IT DOESN'T WORK!
Actually, there's job creation from job creation. The endless Republican argument that making the rich richer creates jobs is nothing more than a confidence trick. The rich take their money and invest it. They don't do anything else with it.
India- Bush did have a poor record if you look at his 8 years. However, I would wager Obama's is no better- and possibly worse if you look at the data.
This is where you libs should come in and measure Bush in absolute terms and then use modified terms to judge Obama and compare the two. It is goofy that people reason like that, but my wager is that goofiness will be shown within an entry or two.
Interesting that when you can't ridicule a post you pretend that it isn't there.
And as far as goofiness, how about "Bush isn't president anymore, so what he did doesn't matter."
You conservatives always like that one. It's the same tactic you use when you can't argue a point.
Rusty, I answered you above. I sincerely hope those logic classes did not fail me.
May I add to above comment that the data does not support your argument. I believe three million gained jobs is a tad better than the millions lost under GWB. Bush nearly caused another great depression. "The mills of the gods grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine": Obama is slowly pulling us out of that disaster. It will take years to undo the harm done by that administration.
Please do not come back with saying I think Obama is a god. I was ready to vote for Huntsman.
Chris- good point- Bush is irrelevant to the conversation. India- since you brought him up, I suspect he was referring to you. You may want to address him. Although- I find it funny that he infers he has no argument that Obama has been pretty poor at job creation.
India- logic class probably hasn't failed you- but basic research seems to have. I just googled it, seems jobs gained under the Obama administration total a negative 1.7 million. I just picked the first response that looked like it was a data file. "Econ-charts.com" if you wish to verify. And remember- Chris has already admonished you for bringing irrelevant topics into the discussion- so in your response, you should leave out any reference to FDR, Nixon, Lincoln or any other past President. Also- in my original response to you- I predicted that libs would attempt to distort data by picking and choosing end-points. So you may want to just reflect upon your dude- Obama's term. I did notice the data I provided ended at year end 2011- so if you find updated data- that is ok. Anything from Jan 2009 to the most current data you can find will work.
And I don't believe I have ever inferred you think Obama is god? But as above- I find it interesting that you like to transfer your preconceptions about groups as a whole upon me. Stereotyping- if you will.
Lets PUNISH the GREEDY!!!!!! not the NEEDY!!!!!
as we have already gave the rich enough, that they are now so greedy they are just crapping on us for fun!
I see where ALEC lost another corp. an Insurance company! the wheels maybe not coming off of the radical right wing but the bearings are sure gone, and its only time.
Rusty-you are hilarious. I say "as far as goofiness, how about "Bush isn't president anymore, so what he did doesn't matter." You conservatives always like that one. It's the same tactic you use when you can't argue a point."
AND THEN YOU DO IT.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Chris- you already said that. You already said that.
btw- who is the not real Chris? Is he stupid as well? If it is Chris M on MSNBC- he's not stupid. I just disagree with him. But he does think.
Hey Ed, I'm starting to get a lot of warm piss running down my back and legs, your show is getting boring and I'm wasting my time watching it. I have to watch the circus show on Fox, but at least it's entertaining. Bring back Kieth.
The real news is today's Gallup poll: Romney 47, Obama 45. Ouch!
Don't bet the farm if I were you...From the LA Times 4-5-2012
o what do the polls show? With a couple of outliers, the numbers offer a pretty consistent view: Obama has a small, but consistent, lead in the national matchups and in key swing states. Of 13 major national polls taken since the beginning of March, two showed Romney with slight leads, one showed a tie and ten showed Obama with leads of between 2 and 12 percentage points. A simple average shows an Obama lead of slightly more than 4 points.
If the economy is the main force driving the election, that result should not surprise anyone. The seasonally adjusted number of new jobs created in the economy has risen by more than 200,000 for each of the last three months, and based on preliminary data, economists expect Friday’s jobs report for March to continue that pattern. Gallup’s measure of economic confidence in March hit its highest point since January 2008 – a year before Obama took office. The firm’s Economic Confidence Index, which measures both what people think about current conditions and their outlook for the future, has been rising largely because of people feeling better about where the economy is headed, Gallup reported.
State-by-state polls mirror the national results. Gallup, for example, periodically polls voters in a dozen swing states: Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico in the West; Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Pennsylvania in the Midwest and industrial mid-Atlantic regions; Florida, North Carolina and Virginia in the South; and New Hampshire. Their latest such survey, conducted March 20-26, showed Obama with a 51%-42% lead in those states – the first time Gallup has found Obama with a lead on that measure.
Obama’s lead in the swing states came largely from independent voters, Gallup found. Since January, Obama’s support among independents in the swing states has remained fairly stable while Romney’s has dropped. As a result, Obama had a 48%-39% lead among swing-state independents, the poll found. Both candidates were pulling about nine-in-ten voters in their own parties.
Among independents in swing states, Obama did particularly well with women, Gallup found – leading by 14 points among them, as opposed to one point among men. But pollsters cautioned against assuming the shift came as a result of the well publicized fight between the administration and Republicans over contraceptive coverage. The vast majority of female swing state independents (80%) said they did not know what Romney’s position on contraception was, although the one-fifth who said they did know leaned against him. About 40% of independent women in the swing states said they knew about Obama’s position, and they were closely divided on whether they agreed with him. Obama’s own aides have stressed the degree to which women voters respond to economic conditions.

Ouch is right!
Like yours better Chris...lol
Yes, OUCH. If Romney wins, it's off to the Isle of Man. Well, I wish! If I didn't have kids here with lives they are locked into, I'd be gone. I abhor the idea of living under Willard Romney. It literally turns my stomach.
In regards to the Hillary Rosen comment, let me say Ann Romney is likely not your typical "stay at home mom."
With a little research, I bet you would find that Ann Romney probably had a housekeeper to do her laundry and housework, a nanny who took care of her boys, a chauffeur who transported her boys to and from private school, a tutor who helped her boys with their homework, and illegal alien gardeners who made her yard a showplace.
When my three little boys were very young, I went back to nursing school. My husband did nothing to help me, so I worked two part time jobs, did my nursing student clinicals, did my own laundry, housework, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, tutoring and childcare. My average nights sleep was about 4-5 hours. Many mornings I got up at 3:00am to study, AND I graduated in the top five in my nursing class of 56 people.
Ann Romney never had to contemplate abortion, or for that matter birth control. She could have had 20 children without the stress of how she would house, feed, cloth, or educate them, she married a rich man. I hope she is very proud of herself, because I know many women in the world would consider her a gender traitor. While women have fought, and continue to fight for equality throughout the world, women like Ann Romney not only sit back and lap up the riches of other women’s hard work and success, but they have the audacity to question and scoff at the validity of women's equality and rights!
Women in the 99% who choose to be stay at home moms are very different from Ann Romney. These women have to make many hard choices and sacrifices so they can stay at home with their children. One of the biggest sacrifices they make is their ability to jump into the workforce if something happens to their partner.
When I was a young woman, I remember the previous generation of women who had stayed at home to raise their children. When the children were raise, and they had sacrificed their own careers and successes, their husbands left them for a younger woman. This was, in my opinion, the
beginning of what Republicans and the right wing conservatives now call the “war on families.” I know this phenomenon changed how my life played out.
Mark my word, women will continue to fight for equal rights in the world, and I assure you we will win this fight. Men need to stand back and watch how effective, resourceful, intelligent and peacemaking women can be. When we win, the exploitation, rape, degradation and submission will end. Women will take their rightful place in societies throughout the world, and this win won't be for the like of women like Ann Romney.
You are indeed a great individual. You sacrificed a lot and came out on top. Congratulations to you and Ann Romney probably does not understand a woman like you. I have said time and time again Hilary Rosen should not have apologized for her remark and I still stand that comment.
I'd like to know if the Romneys had any servants when Ann was raising their kids. How about a nanny or cooks or maids? If so then she truly was not a work at home mom as she claims. All those are parts of raisng kids and keeping a home.
tsk, tsk. Using logic on a Republican. That's not fair.
It is midnight. OMG, good night.
Before I go, good post, GlitterDone. Have you read, What's The Matter With Kansas?, by Tommy Frank. Great book.
It eplains the phenomenon rather well as to why people vote against their own best interests. It was written years ago. Now one could substitute America for Kansas. It has gotten much worse.
That is the part they won't tell you if they was a maid or nanny in the home to help with five boys and I would be surprised if they said yes we had a maid or nanny for the children. If you saw the Saturday Night Live skit when he gave the bartender an envelope then you would have to ask yourself how much did they pay the maid or nanny and did the maid or nanny have some sort of benefits working in that household? Same thing as when he said he cannot have illegals working for him. That man and his wife are totally out of touch with the low and middle income people of America.
Giving tax breaks to the lucky/rich NEVER generates more jobs! Tax breaks for the lazy/rich generates more vacation properties, BMW's, Mercedes' and more Golf!!!!! Putting all that money back in the hands of the evil, hypocritical, privileged few is just plain wrong!
Romney believes women should not have children if they cannot afford them and still work outside the home yet he is against abortion. He believes single women should not have children for thesame reason, yet he has vowed to destroy Planned Parenthood. Romney has also promised to eliminate or reduce the size of Department of Education, yet education leads to reduced birth rates and helps to insure that people will have good jobs.... the republicans are all evil, haters, and Morons!!!!!!!!! What amazes me is that the ignorant religious/republican masses go along with their agenda that is primarily designed to hurt them!!!!! Stupid is as stupid does!!!!
I wonder what Ann Romney thinks of her husband saying low income women needing to have dignity by going to work instead of staying at home with their children? It becomes a different story; That dirty word "welfare" mothers staying at home to take care of their children. They can't be considered stay at home mothers as working at home. What a hypocrite.
Ed, I loved the comment when you said you had a caller that worked 2 jobs and knew how to stretch $100.00. If you get that mother to call in again, please tell that mother after she gets home from being on 2 jobs, she is at her 3rd job taking care of her children and she won't have a maid or nanny to take care of her children. That is the definition of a working mother. She is doing what needs to be done to support her family. Can Ann Romney match that? NO. So should Hilary Rosen should have apologized for making that remark about Ann Romney? Again the answer is NO.
