I think pretend my name larry just because I want to tackle that. I'd say that the government has the legal right to round up 100% of illegitimate illegals(those who are not eligible for asylum) and deport them. They may not be bad, violent or unholy people because most have come for oppurtunity but they are still illegal. Having said that with the number of illegals already here so high, ICE so swamped, the treasury so empty and the nation so in debt I don't think we can afford to pay for that to happen. I do not see that option as being monetarily possible so I think we need a different plan. I say let those who come forward be able to earn citizenship through tests and paying a kind of fee to address at least some of their back taxes. Now one could argue many illegals would not come forward however I think that if we make it clear there will be no possible late entries nor second chances and that anyone who doesn't come forward will be deported no excuses....it may be potentially effective.......but I don't know I just know we can't afford to ship out a few million people and deliver on our numerous other domestic responsibilities

This is seemingly one of those issues where each side has an official position, and each side would rather have the other sides position. Dems would officially be more open to not deporting, and GOP would be the ones with border patrols, deporting at will, etc. However, Dems realize that this labor force is a competition to the Union work force, and the GOP realizes the same thing. The GOP actually welcomes them, but says they don't. The Dems say they welcome them, but they actually don't.
You seem to have a thought out middle of the road pragmatic plan and that is what it will take to be successful. But... it won't happen...
All of this said- I will tell you who guards their border much closer these days that the USA. That would be Mexico. I've traveled over the Rio a number of times recently. Going South, armed soldiers with assault riffles inspect every vehicle. Road blocks set up fairly frequently along routes to the border.
Coming back North- the BP looks at my passport, mispronounces my name and waves me through. And I'm not a closed border type person, so I'm fine with it. Just get a kick out of the mis-perceptions.

The police lied The EMT's cancelled an ambulance because Zimmermans injuries were not sever enough for emergency room treatment. Having survived a mugging that left me with a broken nose and needing stitches from my head hitting cement sidewalk, if what Zimmerman had said was true he would have been sent to the hospital and not the police station. What is telling about the EMT's actions is 1) they were not concerned Zimmerman was suffering a concussion 2) his nose wasn't bleeding bad enough to warrant emergency treatment. What is telling about the police video is 1) lack of blood 2) 1/2 an hour after getting nose broke Zimmerman wasn't puking his guts out, a broken nose always bleeds badly externally as well as internally, blood will make you puke if it gets into your stomach.
No one is trying Zimmerman they are calling for his arrest so he can be tried in a court of law. Evidence is pointing to Zimmerman isn't telling the truth, it is up to the courts to decide if he acted in self defense or not. There is no excuse that Zimmerman was let go and it shows bad police work.
They have. There are no new details possible in support of Zimmerman's injuries coming out at this point....that seems unlikely. We know that there was some cuts to his head and face but nothing that warranted hospitalization or apparently serious attention. I don't even think he's tried to contend he was covered in his own blood or anything like that
