Missouri House Speaker Tim Jones (R) presiding over House debate.
The Missouri House passed a bill that would allow medical practitioners to deny covering certain reproductive procedures based on religion objections.
The bill's sponsor, House Majority Leader Tim Jones (R) argued on the Missouri House floor that this bill will make sure all of the medical staff will be committed to every procedure. He is concerned that some members on the surgical team may hold back on their assistance in the operating room because of their deeply-held religious beliefs.
Then Jones, a former Attorney, cited own his experience with the medical field:
I've been in operating rooms. My father is a veterinarian. I grew up in operating rooms...they are crowded places...and you want those people all in.
Jones says his statement was taken out of context and Missouri state Rep. Jeanie Riddle (R) rushed to his aide.
"He was not comparing women to a veterinarian operation," she said. "He has been in hospitals around Missouri watching operations. To say he was comparing women to a veterinarian operation is disingenuine."
Republicans maintain that the bill gives medical workers more rights and freedoms. But Rep. Stacy Newman, a Democrat, sees it differently.
"This is legalizing malpractice, that is wrong," said Newman. "If we are not getting accurate medical information in our time of crisis, this is a war on women."
The bill passed the house 113-41. It is unclear if the state Senate will take up the bill or if Governor Jay Nixon (D) will sign it if it reaches his desk.

Really? If he didn't mean it and it was taken out of context, they why say it in the first place. Maybe he likes it doggy-style with his women. What an idiot.
Ha Haaa = And The ====US Taxpayers Actually PAY These GOOFBALLS == WHaaaattt ????????
Bull Corn, it was a horrifying Freudian Slip. I do not know how you GOP women stand by this misogynistic party. It is a mystery to me.
That would be OK if my mother was a horse or dog. What a clown.
What on earth is wrong with GOP politicians ? They say it and then turn around and say no thats not what I said. I am so sick of these people. Women's health is so complicated and there's so much that can go wrong or happen. This is not a one bill fits all. Leave women's health alone. When these men can change there anatomy and go through what we do then maybe they might have a clue ! What we have heard this year boarder lines on INSANITY!!!!!
President Obama, on the other hand, is fighting for women's rights and fighting to keep Planned Parenthood available to them for free preventive health care. When his Affordable Care Act goes into effect, women will be the biggest beneficiaries. Right now women pay higher premiums; his law levels the field so they no longer have to pay more.
#4 Pam 52, It CROSSED the border into insanity months ago!
IDIOT! Will they get educated than talk...the more they talk the more stupid they sound....
Taken out of context? Yeah... right. Then there's Georgia's England who thinks women should carry dead fetuses until they go into natural labor like cows and pigs. DEFINITELY a war on women. FIGHT BACK! www.unitewomen.org
Here's link to England and his asinine comment:
In Nebraska, there is a law that forced a woman to give birth to her baby, knowing that it would die, because its condition was diagnosed at 20 weeks. She carried it for another 10 days, then held the little girl in her arms as she died. How cruel and inhuman.
Good thing his dad is a Vet because he is a donkey's arse.
Elephant butt?
The nuts in the GOP never cease to be "creative".
This was a lawyer talking. Got to give him a break as his profession gives a license to say *anything* to win a case. Problem is...he's not in court.
Yeah... right. And Georgia's England spoke out of context, too, when he pushed a bill saying women with dead fetuses should carry until they go into normal labor like cows and pigs:
This IS a war on women. FIGHT BACK!!! www.unitewomen.org nationwide march and rally against the war on women. 4/28/2012
Link to England (if it doesn't work, google Georgia England Women Cows and it will come up.

Quite revealing. He no doubt describes women the way a dog breeder defines the female dog. Starts with a B.
Goes to show the medieval mentality of the GOP. It's insane to degrade women with that kind of comments, but the right wing extremists just don't care. Respect for them means white, rich, evangelical male. Disgraceful!
OR, Women will remember come November!
Obama is for women; They're not.
So ladies and gentlemen, please ask all your female friends if they are registered voters. If not, ask them if they want a ride to the DMV or your local City Hall. This is what I've started in my city and I would like this to hit all states. We need women to vote to get this kind of swill out of office!
Steve, I applaud your efforts...great idea!
The GOP Muslim Brotherhood, war on women.
Great Gran 101, They are just as bad as the Taliban when it comes to women.
As far as I know they haven't stoned any to death. Yet.
Wait, Great Gran 101, it's coming!!!!!!!!!!!! There will be some idiot trying to push some bill saying stone this woman "JUST BECAUSE" because we have seen some whopper of bills against women. They are saying and doing everything thinking this is not the 21st century or the United States.
OK here it is ...OH MY GOD! Realy????????????Just Wow!!!!! this is the offical point where I quote George Carlin...."look around half these people are stupid.....and the other half are even stupider!"
Uh.. you failed miserably at "quoting" Carlin. That's not what he said, and it doesn't even make sense.
"Think of how stupid the average person is... and realize that half of them are stupider than that." - George Carlin.
WELL, Chris Pettitt, Aren't you the critical one. Did it make you feel better to critisise a fellow commenter? Her meaning was clear enough to this Carlin fan!
George had a good point, but he didn't factor in the South, that may be more like a one-quarter to three-quarters ratio.
Well, it's getting so you will be able to identify a Republican just by looking. They all have their foot in their mouth.
#14 and 15, LOL!
There's a lot of this sentiment going around. Women being compared to livestock. In fact, in Illinois, when they tried to sneak this similar bill in, the ran it through the agriculture committee. I can't wait to vote this year. #mce_temp_url#
There is no cure for STUPID!
Cathy Revell, If only. Obama would win in a big landslide!
Women are horses?
John A, Not usually, but Princess Anne came close to that metamorphosis.
He seems to think so!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think it's been pointed out yet but "disingenuine" is not a word. The GOP are @!$%#ing idiots.
Disingenuous, however, is a word. Most likely the one she meant to use. Also, possibly the one she did use, however there is a high likelihood that she was either misquoted as using an incorrect word, or the writer of the story misheard a recording, or even just as likely that it's a typo.
For the Record, I'm not republican, but since you mentioned it, I feel personally that most staunch Democrats are "@!$%#ing idiots" as well.
You Mean To Say That You Do NOT Feel = You Are Numb !!!! Ice Cold !!!! Your Chip Is Faulty !!!!!
He must have caught "Righty's chip, MD/MI!
One hopes that his father was at least a large animal veterinarian.... (I miss Baxter Black!)
"To say he was comparing women to a veterinarian operation is disingenuine.(sic)"
Even when trying to justify this idiot, they just prove themselves to be idiots. Hey Jeannie, try using actual words from the English language; there are plenty to choose from, so you don't need to make them up.
Disingenuous is a word. Can you be sure the errant use of that word wasn't due to a typo, or someone misquoting her? No, you can't, unless you were there, or listened to an audio recording of what she said.
A good number of people on here obviously don't see that his words were quoted in subtext, and there was never a comparison made between women and animals (Women, men, and all humans, are, in fact, Animals, however).
The comparison was made between a hospital surgery room and the OR at a vet's office. The comparison IS VALID. Get over whatever party-induced hatred you have and actually pay attention, please.
Regarding whether or not people should be forced to PERFORM medical acts against their will, NO. They shouldn't. Why would you want a doctor being FORCED BY LAW to work on you? Wouldn't you want someone who was actually willing to do the procedure, who might not be quite as likely to "miss" something? Yes, of course you would.
If a surgeon feels that performing a surgery is against his morality, so be it. The institution for whom he works will have the chance to review his employment at some point, and that should be of consideration to them.
Nowhere in there did I read ANYTHING about withholding information from women about their medical health, and that's not even what the bill is about. Information is not a PROCEDURE. The bill protects both the patient and the doctor, in this case.
Republicans who are Conservative (Read: especially religious) are asshats. No doubt about that. But just because a Republican said it doesn't make it automatically wrong. I think most Democrats (read: liberals) are farking retards, as well. But they, occasionally, have a good point. This isn't one of them.
Actually, physicians take an oath to do no harm. That is the guiding principle of their profession. And it means that a physician is obligated to do whatever he/she can based on what's right and best for that patient. Maybe the medical profession isn't the best place for someone who can't separate professional care from religion.
CJ-639134, If only Republicans had taken that, "First do no harm", oath, instead of pledging an oath to Grover Norquist!
What they want to withhold is information that their baby is dead or that the baby is deformed or that the woman will die in childbirth. Maybe you do not know that but most of us do.
chris pettit,
this is just another example of how the repub party, led by rush limbaugh, feels about women.
when they say "women are only having 2.5 children per "god given" uterus, and we see and hear what they are trying to do women's health, to women's reproductive health, WOMEN WILL AND ARE FLEEING FROM THE REPUB PARTY.
Suzette, They'd better flee. Their lives are at stake.
And guess who doesn't care? They don't.
It seems as though the repuppetticans are saying and doing alot of things they don't mean. These politicians are running for office just so there wives can host the annual ball at the whitehouse. not to better americans or america.
I don't give a flying flip if Tim Jones's words were 'taken out of context' or not - he IS, IN FACT, COMPARING adult women to stray animals. He is absolutely unfit to serve in public office!
Resign, Rep. Jones!
Say it with me re-pup-pet cans. get that string out your back.
