Ed Schultz points out that Greta Van Susteren of Fox News avoided asking Gov. Scott Walker any tough questions in a recent interview, including the on-going John Doe investigation (Mar. 21, 2012).
BREAKING: A bad day for Republican Gov. Scott Walker. First the recall election is officially approved. Then this:
A federal court has struck down portions of Wisconsin's law curbing collective bargaining rights, saying dues can be automatically withdrawn and annual certification votes can't be required.
Today's ruling keeps the majority of the law pushed by Walker in place. A coalition of unions filed the lawsuit last summer shortly after the law was passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature.
The lawsuit argued that the law violated the U.S. Constitution by taking away union rights to bargain, organize and associate and illegally discriminates among classes of public employees.
U.S. District Judge William Conley in an order today rejected the argument that the law violated the equal protection clause of the Constitution. But he ordered that automatic dues withdrawal be reinstated no later than May 31.
Earlier today, the Wisconsin elections board voted to order a recall election of Walker after certifying that enough valid signatures had been submitted.
The Government Accountability Board voted 5-0 to order the recall, a move that has been expected for weeks given the large number of signatures gathered between November and January in response to his law curbing collective bargaining rights.
Assuming a Democratic primary is necessary, it will be in just 39 days on May 8. The actual recall vote then will be June 5, just 67 days away.
Three Democrats already have announced they are running and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, whom Walker defeated in 2010, has said he would announce his intentions before Tuesday.
Ed will talk about the situation in Wisconsin tonight on The Ed Show at 8pET on MSNBC with Ruth Conniff, Political Editor for the Progressive magazine.

GOOD == Shut These Homeland Terrorists Down And THROW THEM OUT To The Curb - As THEY Have Done To So Very Many AMERICANS !!!!!!!! ALL The While THEY Have Been Padding THEIR Pockets !!!!!!
This Country Needs Many MORE Unions And Bargaining Units To Be Put Into Place !!!!
I agree 110% MD/Ml
Hey MD....Long time no splat....I mean no chat....LOL...
I have a question for you....Do you think that products made by Union Workers will be lest costly than one's made by lower paid non-union workers?
Hey Tap = SPLATT !!!! = Not In China = YET !!!!!!! Wouldn't It Be A Pity If The White Collars Had To Contribute More Finances Back Into The Companies - In Order To Pay The Employees MORE As Apposed To Reaping MORE And Denying MORE From The Working People !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Workers wages have nothing to do with products prices and hasn't for a very long time now. How do we know this, why workers wages have remained flat lined since 1979, but prices have climbed almost at the same rate as CEO's incomes. But then again you refuse to see that disparity caused by GOP economics. Why according to you workers have had a paradise since Reagan destroyed the economy because workers are better off with low wage jobs and living wage jobs aren't for peons like workers.
LOL...MD...Have you been splattin very much lately? I have been very busy....Miss chattin with everyone. I heard Ms T hasn't been on here for a long time...Hope she's OK.
Well I think you know where my questioning was going to end up....Union products cost more and higher priced items make it harder to compete with lower cost items....Man I wish it was like the old days when the good old USA was pretty much the only show in town...and folks could get a union job and make a boatload...the problem now is that we are competing with other countries and they are willing to work for what we would consider nothing.....
Tap = Wrong Again == Union Members Wages And Benefits Have Fallen And White Collars Salaries And Bonuses Have Increased Dramatically !!!!!!! Gee-Whiz = Wonder WHY The Price Of Products Are Increasing == Even Though Our Jobs Have Been Outsourced For MUCH LESS WAGES !!!!?????????????
whom...we don't live in the year 1955....back then we were the only show in town and didn't have to compete with basically slave labor....It's just a fact...if it wasn't....we would still be producing all the things that have went over seas. Companies are in the business to make money and labor costs is a portion of the equation weather you want to face it or not.
MD...are you saying that union workers get paid less than their non union counterparts?
Tap = You Are Doing Your Usuall Spin Crap !!!!! You Read What I Printed !!!!! Take Your Blinders OFF !!!!
Ok...I see what your trying to say....the bosses and owners "rich guys" just get richer....so what do we do? If you form a union and increase salaries what is the incentive for the company to have the work done here when they can have the same work done somewhere else for less?
WELL - Back When THEY Started ALL Of This CRAP = THEY Claimed That The Prices Of Products Would DROP !!!???? Have They Dropped = NO - The Prices Have Increased And SO Has The Salaries And Bonuses For White collars { RECORD PROFITS } = Why Are NOT The Working People Of THIS Country Included In This Equation = Rather Than Being Reduced And Eliminated From IT !!!??? You Have Obviously NEVER Worked Within A Factory Setting !!!!!!
Good question MD....the problem is how do you get wages up without reducing profits or get wages up and keep companies here instead of moving over seas? The corporations are holding the cards....we cannot force them to stay here.
Brother...I would love nothing more than to have everyone make a killing in this country....but we live in a competitive world now.
MD tap is a true believer in the Reagan religion and he believes if he keeps worshiping the Reagan economy he will be rich some day soon. Notice he can't see that even though Wal Mart imports nearly all of the products they sell from China where workers make less Wal Mart products sell at or near the price of goods produced in the US at union factories. They also tried using that same math when it came to union auto workers vs Japanese factories in the US with nonunion workers and the price of autos made at both, workers wages played into nothing in the cost of autos and on some models the non union worker made auto cost more then the union worker auto of the same type of model. So they dropped that talking point and let it slip from public memory.
tap again it is not worker wages causing the companies to leave, it is the lax laws on worker safety, pollution and product safety at play. The problem is tap to save on profit companies will start doing some really screwed up crap that harms workers and workers health as well as the health of every living thing in a hundred + radius of a factory. I don't know about you tap but I don't want to live in a toxic waste land where everything is poisoned from industrial waste.
The fact is, not only do the companies pay workers dramatically less in outsourced companies, but the quality of the materials used goes down as well, as well as the craftsmanship of the workers, most notably in China, where there is no quality control.
At the same time, the price on these vastly inferior products either stays the same, or increases in the U.S.
And let's not forget this little fact:
The wealthiest Americans saw their income nearly triple in the three decades to 2007, substantially more than all other segments of the population, the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday.
The nonpartisan agency said in a report that after-tax income on average grew by 62% during the 30-year period. But that growth wasn't even. The wealthiest 1% of Americans saw their incomes skyrocket by 275% during that stretch, while after-tax income for the one-fifth of households with the lowest income grew by just 18% from 1979 to 2007.
http://www.dailyfinance.com/2011/10/26/report-income-of-wealthiest-tripled-over-past-30-years-far-out/
Tap = Once AGAIN ; You Read What I Printed !!!!!!
Sure we can. Take away the tax loophole that let's them import their outsourced products for free, and there's no incentive to move overseas.
That's an option Chris...but if we do that...do you think the price of those goods will go up or down?
MD...I think I understand what you are saying....the rich get richer and the workers get the same or less....but we live in a global economy.....people quit buying Zenith TV's because they could get a cheaper Chinese TV.
Tap = I Would Guess That=That Would Depend On These ceo's - Being WILLING To Give Up Some Things - AS THEY DO The Working People = Instead Of These whit-collars WANTING { EXPECTING } MORE And MORE Each YEAR !!!!!!!! THAT IS WHERE THE TRUE PROBLEMS LAY !!!!!!!
The prices will never go down. They'll either stay the same, or most likely go up, using the closing of the loophole as an excuse. Which won't be true, because all making products in this country will do is stop their excess and unwarranted profits, not actually contribute to the cost of manufacturing.
MD...do you think these ceo's are going to give this up just out of the goodness of their hearts? They are in business to make as much as they can and make as much as possible for their investors....because if they don't their investors will pull out and invest in a company that is more competitive.
Chris....so if the price goes up do you think we will be able to compete in the foreign markets? My guess is that our exports will go down significantly.
Interesting, MD. Are you saying that these CEOs want to make a lot of money without working for it? Isn't that what the Republicans complain about those on unemployment?
CEOs don't have any goodness in their hearts.
Tap = Precisely MY Point AND THE TRUE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM !!!!!!
I think the only way the American worker is going to get back to getting good wages is to get a good education.....a better education than the folks in China....We should try to keep the students that we train and educate from foreign countries and have their education benefit us instead of China, India and the like. We have the best colleges in the world....we should start there.
I think the only way the American worker is going to get back to getting good wages is to get a good education.....a better education than the folks in China....We should try to keep the students that we train and educate from foreign countries and have their education benefit us instead of China, India and the like. We have the best colleges in the world....we should start there. We have a technological advantage...we need to capitalize on it.
TRC = Exactly !!!! They Feel That THEY ARE THE Privileged Ones - And PISS - On The Rest Of US !!!!!! THE Workers Are Merely The Slave-Populous That Have Been Placed On This Planet For THEIR Own Purposes !!!!
Not if the products are good. Which is what the reputation of the U.S. used to be, before the Republicans came up with outsourcing crap and destroyed the reputation of American products.
MD...so how do we fix it??? I think education is the answer to our low wages.
Chris...you forget that Japan ate our lunch back in the 80's because they started using Demmings principles...Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma.....China and India are now using these same principles. The don't have the quality advantage that we used to have...I think we need to capitalize on our technological advantages...We have the best universities in the world....let's use them.
MD/MI-I guess that's where the phrase (and the meaning) of corporate welfare comes from.
Odd that the Republicans don't have a campaign against that kind of welfare.
You mean the education that Walker and the rest of the Republican party is campaigning against?
TRC = Thats RITE !!!! Its Ok If THEY Have Their Hands Out Expecting ALL To Be Given To THEM !!! Thats OK !!!??????? THEY Are "Special" Within Their tiny little Arrogant - Greedy minds !!!!! Must Be The GOD Complex !! Hey !!!!!
Our Congress can't even vote to end $65 billion in oil subsidies to the richest companies on earth!
How is the republican party campaigning against a college education?
Odd that the Republicans don't have a campaign against that kind of welfare.
That Corporate welfare is being given out by the Democrats as well....
Our Congress can't even vote to end $65 billion in oil subsidies to the richest companies on earth!
Chris...If they end those subsidies....do you think the price of gas will go down or up? Let me help you out....it will go up...Republicans don't want the price of gas to go up...however, the presidents policies sure look like he wants them to go up.
Everything-and I mean EVERYTHING that Japan makes is well-made American technology. They simply invested in QUALITY at the same time that America invested in planned obsolescence.
Our companies are responsible for the problems they face. Then they blame it on unions.
BULL@!$%#!
You're starting to get evasive, TAP.
The Democrats don't have a campaign against welfare.
Oil subsidies won't affect the oil companies AT ALL. As I said, they're the richest companies that have ever existed ON EARTH. They don't need any help from ANYBODY.
And now all you're doing is resorting to propaganda.
When you don't have a real argument, you resort to Republican talking points.
It was nice while it lasted.
Chris....there is some truth to your 2.31 statement....the Auto Industry back in the 80's ignored quality and they paid the price. However, let me ask you this....take all the personal sentiment and loyalty out of the equation....If it is your job to make decisions that will make the most money for your company and you will loose your job if you make the wrong decision.....Will you choose to pay a union worker $30/ hour to do the same job as a non union worker who makes $15/hour?
Like I said, you're getting evasive, posing illusory questions, and resorting to talking points.
Not worth my time.
@ post 2.32....Oil companies will make a set percentage of profit no matter what...If you take away their tax loophole they will simply pass that on to the consumer...You know it and I know it....that is why it shouldn't be eliminated right now...I think we should remove all corporate welfare but taking it away from oil right now is a big mistake if you don't want gas to get higher.
@2.34.....In other words you can't give the obvious answer that doesn't support your talking points. It's ok to be wrong...but democrats are always right even when they are obviously wrong.
Tap = $30 Dollars An Hour = WHAT ???? I Have NEVER Heard Of A Factory Worker Making $30 Dollars An Hour = Where Did You Come-Up With That ????? Oh Butt Its OK If The white-collars Make $1000 Dollars An Hour !!!!!!! And UP = Thats OK ????? Gee-Whiz Cannot Figure Out Why The Prices Of Products Are Going UP ????????
True American Pat-
You get really childish when you run out of arguments.
Then you start to imitate what I say.
Do you want to win that much?
Go Back To My Previous Postings = THEY Just Cannot Or Will-Not Accept Anything OTHER-THAN MORE-MORE-MORE For Themselves And Their Buddies !!!!! And Less-Less-Less For Everyone Else !!!!!
Chris...I'm not going down your rat hole. My conversation is over with you...until next time.
MD....it was a hypothetical question.
MD....2.39....your right but how do we fix it?
Civil War #2 !!!!!!!??????????????
LOL MD...Let's hope there is a better answer....good chatting with ya.....Have a great evening.
I DON'T Find It Very Laughable !!!!!!
But, by the same token, we won't be giving them our taxes and still getting screwed at the pump. We'll get screwed at the pump regaurdless, so why not keep our taxes.
Every Republican Governor has cut education spending. That's a fact that is well documented. How many "jobs at the top" are there for these well educated people. I know people with Phd's that are unemployed. Education can also mean you'll hear overqulified. I've heard it, my wife has heard it and many others have heard it.
But think those CEO's are worth $25million + /yr. Wonder why products cost so much. One product I know of, the stant for heart surgury. The article I read, several months ago, said it cost the manufacturer $800.00 to make. They sold it to hospitals for $2,800.00. The hospital charges the patient $23,600.00. I'd say that's a pretty good profit all around, except for the recipient. And my brother-in-law just had 3 done and he showed me the bill so I do know what the hospital charges.
I don't think civil war is a laughing matter either. But to think that civil war is the answer ...is laughable.
larry....sound like a problem...so how do we fix it without running every remaining company out of this country that is left? We need our paychecks more than they need us.
Larry = There Ya Go = And That Is Just 1 Example !!!!!!! Pittyful == Isnt It !!!!!!!
Wait'll they start paying the workers who make those stents half as much as they used to. I'm sure the quality will go up, right along with the CEO's profits.
Tap = "Sounds Like A Problem" ==== Boy - There Is A TYPICAL Response !!!!!!
MD..it is a problem that needs addressed. We just need to be careful that we don't run off the last few companies that have stuck with us. Some paycheck is better than welfare.
Its called mega millions, Could be a misnomer though as if no one winnes this time around...... Got um on MD?
Gotta Go! Tornado Warning.....
Not if it's corporate welfare.
Nothing better than that.
Chris...I agree with you on that one....
Time for the basement....looks nasty out here....
I will pay whatever I have to to get the most professional worker to do the best job.
You don't get the best work from cut-rate workers. A professional won't lower his price.
As the saying goes, "If you think a professional costs a lot, wait till you hire an amateur."
Do you guys realize you have a 56 post chain....and now it is 57....Is that a record?
Does that mean I win?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlKMy65dyz4&feature=related
No I win by posting the truth about republicans. LOL
No we all loose because both parties are full of crooks.
http://www.urbin.net/EWW/polyticks/democrats.html
@TheRealChris,
Everytime anyone talks about how the wealthy people's income has gone up so much, they always stop at 2007. What year is it now? Oh yeah, it's 2012 and didn't the stock market crash at the end of 2008? Even Ed's graph stops in 2007 for the wealthy and continues on much further for the middle class. Coincidence? I don't think so. You can make statistics say anything you want.
@TheRealChris,
The company I work for does all their manufacturing in Thailand. I don't know what they make now but in 1994 they made $0.70/hour. By our standards, that's "slave labor". By their standards, that's upper class. People there are more than happy to work for those wages, and they do just as good a job as Union workers here because they are paid very well by their standards. They take pride in their quality. When I traveled there in 2003, I had a $42.00 spending limit per day for meals. If you ate local, like I try to do, it was hard to spend $1.00 per day. That is what American workers and Unions are up against, not wealthy CEOs.
DrillBaby,
Don't waste your time bud....They think we still live in 1955 when we didn't have to compete in a world market. At some point people need to wise up and realize that corporations are in the business to make as much money as possible for themselves and their shareholders. The only way that workers are going to make more money is to offer services that someone else is not able to provide at a lower cost...We need to capitalize on the advantages that we have...but we are not doing it. We have the best Universities and Technologies that the world has to offer. What do we do? We train our competition and give that advantage to them.....
@TAP,
Point taken. I won't waste my time any further. I agree education is the key.
@ TheRealChris and post 2.32
When are people going to realize that Corporations don't pay taxes? Their loyalties lie with their shareholders and their shareholders expect them to return a profit on their investments. Taxes are simply passed on in the price of the goods and services they provide.
As TAP said,
Oil companies will make a set percentage of profit no matter what...If you take away their tax loophole they will simply pass that on to the consumer...You know it and I know it....that is why it shouldn't be eliminated right now...I think we should remove all corporate welfare but taking it away from oil right now is a big mistake if you don't want gas to get higher.
@TheRealChris,
Taking away the tax breaks for big oil only means higher gas prices and that spells doom for Obama in 2012.
Education maybe the key but a closed mind like the tea bagging republicans show is a waste of education because they are unable to process anything that they book or instructor doesn't tell them. I used to laugh at republican class mates who agreed with teachers that the reason the river didn't freeze in our city because the river current ran to fast for water to freeze. It was really a simple fact find that proved them wrong, I took pictures of the river above the factories on the river that the river was frozen 100 yards from the last factory on the river it was only the river below that factory where the river wasn't freeze because the water temp was to high for ice to form because of hot water being dumped back into the river. But our good republican teacher did what all good little republican teachers did when their wisdom got refuted, they put me out of class. Kids can't learn when you have teachers refusing to teach beyond the book nor challenge the books wisdom.
Then drill his way to know where proves the point. Here is a clue the new reports aren't due until 2014, the reports are done every decade. That he doesn't know that just shows he hasn't a clue. Look at how he buys into the nonsense that those tax credits oil companies enjoy keep gasoline prices down yet he can't see they have nothing to do with prices as oil prices are driven by the world market.
@whomitmay,
I believe that the price of oil is driven by speculators. If I were a speculator, I would speculate that this Administration is pursuing a Green Energy policy and I would speculate that it is a failed policy. I would speculate that this Administration has no plan to pursue it's own natural resouces in the future. I would also speculate that our Administration is weak when it comes to unrest in the Middle East further driving up uncertainty in the market.
If I were a speculator and I saw an Administration pursuing offshore drilling and government land drilling, I might speculate differently the cost of a barrel of oil. If I were a speculator and saw a strong Administration that had a strong foreign policy when it came to the Middle East, I might speculate differently the cost of a barrel of oil. Speculators don't see that with this Administration, period. That is why gas prices are what they are.
Who cares what you think drill? All your doing is writing nonsense. Here is a clue for you..............it was the GOP that gave oil speculators that power and it has been the GOP that has fought every bill to reign in the Wall st speculators. That you believe that by drilling more you are going to lower prices is laughable more drilling means more exporting and what the US doesn't consume gets exported the only winner is the oil companies and the speculators, it has no effect on what you pay at the pump. So we have a choice go green and cut the oil companies throats or drill and cut our own throats. I for one am not going to cut my throat so oil companies can scam more money. The GOP plan for oil? More of the same nonsense that has lead to the current oil prices.
@whomitmay,
It is you that is writing nonsense. Green energy is not a viable technology yet. Someday it may be and probably will be. Until then we need to extract our own resources to bridge the gap. That is the responsible path, not the path this Administration has chosen. Their path is make gas prices so high that we have no alternative but to go Green. It will be to their demise.
And just how is that going to happen when the oil companies sell off every drop of oil that the US doesn't consume. You can drill until there is no oil left and still never drill your way to lower oil prices because the oil companies will sell every drop to the highest bidder. That you can't grasp what is going on right in front of you makes us laugh. And yes we do have the technology to produce green energy the problem is it isn't as profitable as oil so investors are not investing in green energy. I t isn't the green energy at fault it is the profit margin. Funny how when GWB was in office and oil prices sky rocketed the excuse was we were running out of oil so we had to drill more, yet Obama has increased oil drilling and the prices are still going through the roof.
Now it is 71 and as a women, I only managed to get one word in......
TM you didn't try hard enough.
Question: How many posts does it take to convince a liberal that it isn't 1930 anymore?
Answer: More than 74.
Sorry I couldn't resist....
Shameful!
Awesome News for Wisconsin and also The best day will be June 5 when walker is gone
True dat.
.
BREAKING NEWS>>>>>>
Olberman gets canned at Current TV. Life is good....VERY GOOD!
whew...that is the best news I have heard in quite some time.
You must not get very much good news.
I guess you want as much of the truth prevented as much as possible.
No light in your dim little world.
Chris, he thought the said Hannity.lol
Now that would be something to celebrate......Handy getting can, I mean.
OBERMAN would not know the truth if he was reading it off a teleprompter..oh wait...he can't do that because he got FIRED!
I am detecting a trend here that even the Sanford Police Department could follow...Olberman gets fired from ESPN for being an obnoxious loud mouth jerk, Olberman gets fired from MSNBC for being an obnoxious loud mouth jerk, Olberman gets fired from Current TV for being an obnoxious loud mouth jerk. I wonder what the common thread is in all of these scenarios?
He keeps telling the truth.
No one censors lies.
To bad the vine won't do that to right wing posters who are even worse at being big mouths, at least Olberman is informed the same can't be said of the misinformed such as storm trooper.
Oh, so you are saying that Al Gore does not like the truth...very interesting.
Really Al posts here? whats his vine nick? No you don't like the truth you watch Fox news for the spin and twists of made up news.
I turned in my recycling in today and with the money I bought mega millions tickets in hope of going GREEN!
You will, I hope, share it with your friends on the blog.
.
Nope, I don't think he is shearing. I gave my hubby my number when he left for the casino to go bowling.
What do Walmart, FOX News, and Koch Brothers have in common?

The unions have doomed millions of Americans to poverty with their "minimum wage" legislation. Government unions pit the taxpayers against the workers, and union "bought" politicians have driven state treasuries into bankruptcy!
If the unions are successful in getting Walker out and a "pro-union" governor and legislature back in Wisconsin, the Right to Work states will continue to benefit! Just keep those highly skilled workers coming!
capt handout is the worst offender, he gets 2 government handouts and says he is entitled to a third handout but the mean old Democrats limit him to 2. Oh and if it wasn't for unions capt handout would have been fired from his job for being incompetent because his posts clearly show he wasn't very good at learning a thing and passed that on to his poor students thus cheating them out of a good education.
Thanks ceinse, we here in Texas don't have to contend with unions, that's why we live so well! I was in Houston this week, and cannot believe the high standard of living people there enjoy!
Someone try to explain to whom the difference between pension and a handout if you can.
Really then you have no clue about unions or what union workers had to go through to have unions. Here is a clue, the bosses of the workers hired police and thugs to kill anyone that even mentioned union. So what is wrong with making a living wage for your work? Oh sure people like capt entitled whine that unions protect people like capt entitled from being fired, but capt entitled didn't start whining until after he milked the system for every dime he could get.
Grow up whom, we no longer live in the 30s. It's the unions that hire hit men to kill members that don't stay loyal. I never needed union help to stay employed, and resented the deadweight that did!
I lived the nightmare of being required to belong to a union and I didn't like it! Just my experience, but I know many others like me! Your ignorant conjecture of my needing a union to stay employed borders on slander. Think about it! Just sayin'
Hey cein, a business friendly government would help. One like we got in Texas! Obama could also try to end this rampant class warfare. Everyone was happy as the rich get richer! Just sayin'
"a business friendly government would help. One like we got in Texas! Obama could also try to end this rampant class warfare" Capt- I've made more money in stock in the past 3 yrs as opposed to the 8 yrs under Bush combined. I think that's just a talking point. As for class warfare I only see that coming from this ultra right wing bunch that is ruining the republican party. If you don't like unions that's fine. Stop repeating lies though, it just makes you look foolish.
What "lies" am I repeating, NoLong? Are you alleging that the Obama administration is pro-business, that Texas isn't pro-business, or that the class warfare isn't coming from Obama and the Dems? BTW, opinions are not facts, are they? Just sayin'.
Most of the people who lost money in '08 thought Obama would improve the business climate. Those that knew better sold short and did quite well! Sorry you were fooled by Obama, why are you still supporting him? Right now, you comments, "just makes you look foolish," don't you think?
How could you loose money from 2000-2006? You must have made some really stupid decisions! Most investors have done quite well since 1983! Just askin'
It's obvious you don't read much, since you obviously didn't read my post either. I didn't say I lost money, I said I made more recently. If you're not making money now it is you that must be making some really dumb decisions. So if Obama is so anti-business as you suggest how can that be? Am I a supporter? No. My choices on the republican side along with some of their policies have got me thinking, however. Also the many idealogues, it seems you are included, would rather follow the party over a cliff then stand up to dim-wit policies. It's went from the republican party to the anti-Obama party and it makes me sick. Do I like the Dems? No, but considering my choices they're starting to make more sense. I mean how many jobs will attacking unions create? Seems our priorities should be elsewhere.
NLR, you sound like you know the market, your post said:
How could you do better in 3 Obama years than the 8 Bush years, unless you lost a lot in '08. Do you mean you would -
The GOP is trying to save SS by making changes to keep it viable, the Dems are only playing politics by scaremongering. You really don't see that? Finally -
Just look at the current economic prosperity "right to work" states enjoy! Companies are flocking to SC and TX to escape the adversarial relationship between labor and management that is caused by unions!
My priorities are for American investment and enterprise through a capitalist system of supply and demand. What's yours, NLR? Just askin'
My priorities are to work together for a prosperous America. Not political witchhunts that divide. RTW laws show no proof of doing anything good other than lowering wages, if you consider that good. For every argument for, there is an equal against. If you really want to have a good, fair law you would also have the law amended so that the union did not have to represent people who did not pay. If you did that I don't think anybody could be against it. RTW states economically if you look at the list are not all at the top of the list. Most of them have had this law in place for years and it hasn't really done anything for them. If it had everybody would have been doing it by now. Even your beloved Texas is not that great unless you are looking for minimum wage work. I've lived there. The infrastructure is in really bad shape, the roads are about 20 yrs behind your population. Texas has its problems like everywhere else. Maybe compared to Lousiana, Mississippi, and New Mexico you are better, but honestly I can tell you don't get out of that general area much. My point is instead of promoting ideology both parties should be working together as they have in the past to help America. I know you think its great but this new crop of republicans seems very divisive. When they again start to promote ideas that make sense, instead of witchhunts maybe I will support them again.
"I was in Houston this week, and cannot believe the high standard of living people there enjoy!"-capt- I hope you were kidding. I thought I was talking to somebody that knew something. I just noticed this. If you think that, you obviously never been out of your area. You haven't been to LA, NY, or Chicago. Heck, I don't even think you've been to Austin. Austin is way better than Houston. And don't tell me about the small bad areas of those cities I've been to them all. I know there are bad areas of Houston too. You know the more I read from you the more you expose yourself as a political hack. I thought you might be an independent thinker, being a conservative reading liberal sites as I used to. Guess I was wrong.
Another great day in Hell south (Texas)! Gotta love it! OK, NoLoRep let's get started -
I agree, so why continue all the divisive issues - Trayvor Martin, "Rich vs. Poor" Divide, and now gov. union support? We have very different positions on those issues so let's discuss them, but not get so emotionally involved. I appreciate your honest responses, but have you seen most responses I get on this site? Just askin'
I always enjoyed traveling; remember I was a migrant worker for almost 30 years with the military, so I have been all those places you mentioned. I also know the bad areas of Houston, heck I graduated HS there. My youngest daughter's college is in a beautiful part, we were staying in the Katy area. Both are extremely prosperous as they can't seem to build new houses fast enough! Yes there are bad areas, but I was talking about the growing prosperity of our new immigrants. These are skilled folks that move here for the great jobs, high standard (at low cost) of living, low taxes (no income tax), great roads, good schools, safe neighborhoods, etc. My oldest daughter lives in north Austin, with one of those Silicon Valley jobs that moved to the Wells Branch area directly from beautiful CA (so. San Fran Bay area). They certainly didn't move for the weather or natural beauty! Still, we can't build communities fast enough all over the state, highways are the same way!
These folks have been run out of non-RTW states and now can enjoy taking jobs with no built in owner vs employee adversarial relationship that comes with unions. I was in Chicago last summer, beautiful city! But the state is burdened with high taxes and an ever growing Chicago vs the rest of the state political climate that creates animosity like I sometimes see on this blog. People actually mad at each other over politics! Just sorta foreign to my circle of friends here in Texas!
Think what you want, I'm a "baby killer" on conservative sites, because I support a woman's right to choose. I am a TPer, who advocates limited government and liberty over equality! I also enjoy listening to Rush Limbaugh when I can. Why is that at problem?
Capitalism creates huge gaps in income, why is that such a bad thing? It also creates unbounded opportunity for those who are able and will work! It's called the American dream, kinda like my life story (check out my vine). What is wrong with unbounded success for those who make a bigger pie? People really can succeed by making others successful. One of my favorite questions: who has helped more people -
Entrepreneurs get wealthy by improving everyone's lives (building a better mousetrap). Isn't that a good thing and shouldn't they get rewarded? Just askin'
Gotta get to the Gym for a little PT. Have a great day and God Bless!
I am glad you think Texas is the utopia of labor-management relations. I lived in Ft.Worth Amarillo and El Paso. That's why I can't believe you outright Capt. It seems to me its a lot like everywhere else. The rest of the world unfortunately, is outside your utopia. I love how you immediately blame animosity between labor and management on unions. Have you ever stopped to think maybe it was there before and that's why the employees chose to organize in the first place? Have you ever thought that maybe the company and employees came to an agreement and the company chose to breach it just because they can? If you read the current law it is extremely difficult for employees to organize themselves and be recognized so why on earth would they do so if things are so peachy without a union as you suggest. Do I think unions are a ideal solution to everything? Of course not. Large unions can bring certain levels of corruption and abuse of power as with anything that involves large amounts of money, same as corporations and government. An employee with good representation enjoys fair levels of compensation, respect, and good benefits. I do think that employees need to have the right to organize to lets say put a checks and balances against unbridled corporate greed. If you have a company that is fair I don't think you would ever see any real effort for it to be organized. Like I said I still think they should have a choice. That's why I see the current political games going on as wrong. You live in Texas and I know its not devoid of problems as with every other state. But you guys have a way of life and if it works for you, great. It's not going to work the same everywhere, unfortunately. My suggestion for you is to take a hard look at both sides of an issue before condemning one side in your mind, even if the idea you are in support of has worked before for you. The way I have lived my life has worked for me, I would never suggest that somebody else should take the exact same path. As I stated before we need to get past divisive politics the issues we are tackling seem to me to be political footballs meant to harm one side or the other not help the nation as a whole. Yes, I know dems are guilty as well. But the insanity needs to stop somewhere. I hope the best for you and your family and continued success. Good day.
Just to back up what I am saying about political footballs, let's get back to the article. Gov. Walker decided not to have his law apply to firefighters and police to get their endorsement, if he hadn't done this his law would still be in place. If he truly thought his law was good he would have stood by his principle to have this apply to everyone. Whether you agree with the law or not, I think you have to agree with the judges decision not to single out particular groups. A law like this should apply to everyone, or no one.
NLR, I will admit even Texas isn't heaven on earth. Head that way and take the last right (ha)! I wasn't aware that Walker took police and firefighters out of the bill. Too bad! And no, unions have a place and should always be an option for workers in huge labor pools.
My problem is with public service unions, like I was a member of while teaching in some states. I saw dead weight teachers keep their jobs when they should have been fired for incompetence. Part of what I like here (in Texas) is that principals can fire unproductive teachers when they see fit. I may not always agree with the principal, but he/she must take control of their campus and establish authority. Of course, I also appreciate the threat of corporal punishment as needed!
"I saw dead weight teachers keep their jobs when they should have been fired for incompetence"- Well all I have to say about that is in our society to have fair representation for all, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The guilty sometimes get away with it, but it's the only way to protect the innocent. It's an unfortunate thing and it's not fair but until there is a better way of determining guilt or innocence, it's all we got. The good thing is you can't just be fired for some trumped up charge because the principle doesn't like you. You get a fair hearing with representation first. It's hard for me to agree with unions on this one issue but I accept it as it being the only way to effectively insure people are being treated fairly.
Effective teaching is hard to evaluate as test results don't tell the whole story, I understand, NLR. My point is authority, principals should have the right to have the teachers they want on their campuses. It's hard to dislodge a teacher when unions get involved.
I do believe, and appreciate, our Republican type system in which we are governed by laws.
I got an letter in the mail from Scott Walker asking for donations. I sent back a reply with no money in the prepaid envelope. On the back of the request, I stated that I was no longer a Republican due to the greed of the CEOs and the Republican politicians that support that greed. I stated that I was thinking of donating money to defeat Scott Walker in the recall. Also, I wrote about the ugly things the Republicans have done since taking over the Congress and the state governing bodies.
Thank you ED for keeping us informed.
