Trayvon Martin's parents maintain he was trying to get away from George Zimmerman, despite claims that Zimmerman was acting in self-defense. Meanwhile, on Monday, thousands of people descended upon Sanford, Fla., demanding justice for the Florida teen who was shot while on his way home from a convenience store. NBC's Ron Allen reports.
One month after Trayvon Martin was gunned down in Florida, new details emerge about the events of that night.
Trymaine Lee, Senior Reporter with The Huffington Post, and Walter Zalisko, Retired Police Chief from Florida, President of Global Investigative Group, are both in Florida tonight with the latest details.
Trayvon’s parents are forced to defend their dead 17-year-old from smears in the conservative media. Turner Clayton Jr, Seminole County NAACP President, also joins Ed from Florida with reaction.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush defends the “Stand Your Ground” law he signed in 2005. Dan Gelber, former Florida state Senator and former federal prosecutor, will weigh in on that from Miami.
History was made inside the U.S. Supreme Court today as three days of arguements began on the Obama health care law. Outside, it was another political circus.
NBC Legal Correspondent Savannah Guthrie analyzes the legal challenges to Obama's health care overhaul law.
Jonathan Cohn, Senior Editor at The New Republic and Author (“Sick: The Untold Story of America’s Health Care Crisis—and the People Who Pay the Price") was inside the room for today's argument and will give us the latest.
It's Tebow time in New York. Ed will us what happened when new Jets' quarterback Tim Tebow went before New York media.
And in our Big Finish, Paul Ryan can't come up with a way to pay for his budget, but that's not stopping Mitt Romney from endorsing it. Robert Reich, former U.S. Labor Secretary, UC Berkeley Professor, will join Ed for that.

I dont se anybody making a big racial stink because some black guy shot me in the head last year! www.repomanshot.com They didnt even arrest that S.O.B!
I'm sorry to hear that. Based on your domain name I assume you are in the repo business which is one of the most dangerous occupation. Why wasn't this guy arrested? Without knowing the details all I can is that you should still continue your quest for justice. All the best to you.
RC it could had been a white person also.
Zimmerman is a Coward. He probably doesn't realize how much safer he would be in Jail....I wouldn't want to be him and try to walk a free man. If that were my son , there would be nowhere for him to hide .
It make no sense' He walk up to the kid then turnaround to walk back to His truck, what a load of crap, only the Police and the City could go along with that. It not OK to start a fight then use deadly force because your 220 pound butt is getting hammer by the 155 pound you try to bully, what if that was me walking not messing with no one and you come at me like that, you would not be hiding for your life right now and that am sure of. this case tell me to be on my guard at all times anywhere
against anyone, eye for an eye, family for family, friend for friend, you waste a Kin of mine and i cant get to you' someone close to you will do just fine to start with!!
Ed's not telling the truth about the Ryan budget. If you compare the Ryan budget proposal to the Obama proposal Obama's budget more than doubles the debt and significantly raises taxes along with making massive cuts to Medicare.
Just another case where someone didn't read what the Ryan bill would do to most every one. Read the bill, read what it will do and then if you still beleive it is good then you must have gotten stuck in the third grade.
And what exactly does that have to do with the topic?
But like Johnny said. Read the bill. My bet is you haven't even looked at it.
The Ryan budget goes even farther and raises taxes on the middle class while lowering them for the rich
The plan is just stupid granted, the foreseeable debt would have likely been be lowering than Obama's total, Ryan is attacking certain programs arbitrarily while leaving other departments
the plan will balance the budget in 2040, assuming some act of god doesn't get in the way
Throw out the race thing, as far as I'm concerned this is an Adult stalking a teenager, how would you feel about it if you saw a man walking after a boy first thing in my mind is some kind of pervert just to much bad news in today's America where a lone boy isn't safe walking to the store. If someone was stalking my daughters I might have been the one shot in Florida.I would have been in Zimmerman's face.
being 17 years old over 6ft tall with gold teeth i wouldn't describe that as a boy
can you please tell me the difference between following and stalking
stalking according to the law is repeatedly following a certain person on different occasion and usually involves harassment
following is just that following someone
So you and every one need stop using the word "stalking" to try to make it sound that Zimmerman was doing something sinister and or illegal
Someone with a gun walking after a boy. I don't care how "tall" they might be is a matter for concern.
Under the "Stand Your Ground Law" Trayvon had the same right as Zimmerman. Only he didn't have a gun. Zimmerman was told by the 911 operator "We don't need you to do that" but didn't heed. The order should have been "Do not engage. Do not proceed" This is all in hindsight.
No need responding to TFR. He hasn't listened to anything anybody has said. He is on Zimmermans side. He thinks Zimmerman was right. He's all for this dangerous law. He doesn't understand, there have been laws on the books for many years about delf defense. This law just make vigilante law legal.
Nope.
The stand your ground statute assures individuals that they will not be targetted or arrested for defending themselves and no there have not always been laws against it. I suspect that you wouldn't even try to say that if the roles were reversed
it does not encourage vigilantes
Ed is telling the truth about Ryan's Budget. Ryan & Romney are the ones hiding the truth. This budget hurts everyone except the rich. Romney loves it since he only paid about 15% in taxes last year.
Mitt Romney is the prefect poster child for the GOP! The health care mandate was the GOPs to begin with they have done a 180 on health care! Like Mitt on every issue. Its the law in every state that you must have auto insurance and your rates are higher just in case you have an accident with a auto worth more than $200000 dollars and why do you people let them get away with it. As multi billionaire Dick Cheney get someone's heart (That may be uninsured) in his chest and all at the expense of us the taxpayer! The Public Heath Option would have given the rest of us the choice of the same type of coverage members of congress receive at about 2/5 the cost of getting it off the street! If you do not raise hell over this it will be a sad sad day in the USA!

I don't see fat Ed talking about the New Black Panthers and their leader Mikhail Muhammad saying that Pres. Nobama and Holder to get off their ass and do something about this, if they won't we will. They even have a bounty on Zimmerman. I guess Ed doesn't want to piss off Mikhail. Ed also failed to mention a story that happened this week end at Mississippi State College. Three armed black men shot and killed a white student..they are currently on the loose. Why isn't the liberal media talking about this hate crime, where's Rev Al, Jesse Jackson, Lawrence O'Donnell.
Is it in fact a hate crime, and by that I don't care how you or anyone else feels about it does the case constitute a hate crime under the law? Once again unless there is no real investigation and the police are not actively working to create any legal case than the two cases are not the same. If the police know all the potential suspects and have yet to try and make a case to arrest them or gather evidence, then the cases can be similar. This needs to be about the lack of investigation not the race issue, you are doing nothing but polluting society with the same crap you accuse others of doing. You're really not helping $hit. No, I take that back you're helping $hit the same way Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson "help".
The new black panthers are a racist group which has nothing to do with anyone. It's illogical and unnecessary to highlight everytime known racists say racist things, the nbpp are known racial extremists. So I'm quite sure Ed was trying to make Mikhail happy because Mikhail doesn't hate all white people always and forever to begin with. Clearly they must be friends. That makes sense.
There you go thinking everybody every where should be talking about the Black Pantheres again. If what you say is true, tell the FBI. They are the ones to contact. And why can't you righties that come to left wing blog, make a statement without insulting the host. OH, that's right. All you have is insults, lies and name calling. Go back to Fox, I heard they miss you.
article from the Miami Herald
"In October, a school police investigator said he saw Trayvon on the school surveillance camera in an unauthorized area “hiding and being suspicious.” Then he said he saw Trayvon mark up a door with “W.T.F” — an acronym for “what the f---.” The officer said he found Trayvon the next day and went through his book bag in search of the graffiti marker.
Instead the officer reported he found women’s jewelry and a screwdriver that he described as a “burglary tool,” according to a Miami-Dade Schools Police report obtained by The Miami Herald. Word of the incident came as the family’s lawyer acknowledged that the boy was suspended in February for getting caught with an empty bag with traces of marijuana, which he called “irrelevant” and an attempt to demonize a victim.
Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described silver wedding bands and earrings with diamonds.
Trayvon was asked if the jewelry belonged to his family or a girlfriend.
“Martin replied it’s not mine. A friend gave it to me,” he responded, according to the report. Trayvon declined to name the friend"
So Martin was caught at school with 12 peaces of womens jewelry some with diamonds where did he get the money to buy diamond jewelry and how many wedding bands do you need i didnt know he was engaged but of coarse he was holding them for a friend
so it is either Martin is a thief or he hangs around theifs
The past criminal history of an individual is irrelevant to whether or not they may be the victim of a crime. You think Zimmerman would have know that at the time?? Obviously not, so it doesn't matter in any case. Since there is nothing to suggest from anyone or substantiate he had committed a crime that day.
A promiscous woman can be a victim of rape.
A theif can be robbed.
A killer can be murdered.
The past of the individual does not mean they can not be the victim of a crime. Being a thief doesn't give anyone the right to shoot someone unnecessarily.
Because it goes to show that Martin was a 17 year old pot smoking thug thief alot different then the picture MSNBC tried to portrayed him as
It goes towards the creditability that Martin attacked Zimmerman
Why not go back to Fox where they appreciate you right wing crap. All you've done is repeat the crap 3 days in a row.
Zimmerman was told not to follow. He did. NO police investigation. Did it ever cross you little mind that that might be whe people are so upset? But leave it to the right wing to make the victim out the bad guy. I guess it's illegal to walk down the street. He needs to be shot. What makes you believe Trayvon did have the same rights Zimmerman had? OH, crap, that's right. Trayvon was wearing a Hoodie. Damn, he's got to be a "thug". Idiot!!! And the Miami Hearald is known for mis-reporting. Funny, that's the only place you find that report. But for God's sake, keep sticking up for Zimmerman. We wouldn't want his rights violated!!!
Irrelavent. Again no one deserves to be shot unnecessarily. There is no way that Zimmerman could have known that so although there are numerous potential scenarios this is not one of them for sure
what you're trying to say is that hoodies, and such inspired Zimmerman to fear...and we know how that worked out.......you are trying to legitimize Zimmerman's paranoia, that he wasn't wrong to be scared. Doesn't Martin have the same rights as the shooter, how could he have known what Zimmerman was following him for "safety" reasons
if you follow someone around especially a young person around the neighborhood and you are not a cop folks would be wise to be fearful of those people, they could be kidnappers or robbers
didn't martin have the right to stand his ground
CC...
You and I have had disagreements in the past but I wanted to tell you that I have found your comments on the Martin/Zimmerman situation to be very well thought out and balanced. You have not attacked the victim or the suspect in this situation and continually present an unbiased opinion. Thank you for your perspective and your level headed approach to the subject.
I think that Ed needs to go back to school and take a civics class. In that class he would learn that the United States Government is comprised of 3 separate branches. The legislative branch which passes laws, the executive branch which executes those laws, and the judiciary branch which interprets if those laws are constitutional. Just because a Democratic Congress passes and a Democratic President executes a law does not mean it is legal according to our Constitution. It is up to the Supreme Court to decide if the law is constitutional. Remember something called the separation of powers. Our founders created the Federal Government that way so that no one branch would have unlimited power, unlike England where all power was vested in the King. I know it is hard for some progressives to understand but that is the way our founders, in their infinite wisdom, structured it. And the only legal way to change that would be to have a constitutional amendment which would have to be ratified by the states, again another check and balance created by our founders.
I personally agree with several provisions of the law such as the pre-existing condition part and kids staying on their parents plan until 26. And I don't know if the mandate is constitutional or not. But fortunatley that is something the SP will decide, not a MSNBC talking head.
A Fed...Fat Ed just wants you to beleive all his Bull S$#@t The guy is a moron.
Ed,
Just as a matter of teaching our children what to do in the event that a "strange man" is trying to accost or abduct them...
The heart of trying to teach our kids how to avoid being anyone's victim is this...By the way I am quoting myself here as I have spoken to my own children...
"If someone ANYONE, tries to grab you, come after you or hurt you in anyway...FIGHT...SCREAM FOR HELP AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS, KICK AND KEEP SCREAMING, PUNCH AND TRY TO RUN...WHAT EVER YOU DO...DON'T LET THEM GET YOU IN THEIR CAR!"
I lie awake at night thinking about what this child's last thoughts were...the horror of what was happening to him...the unthinkable reality of what his mama and daddy told him to do to save himself...did not help Trayvon Benjamin Martin.
Now I know it would not have saved any of my own children either!
I defy anyone in this country to try and tell me or any other parent that this is wrong behavior on the part of a victim!
Anyone in the right wing attempting to pull out this reprehensible kind of argument are lying son of a bitches for attempting to do so.
The right wing would have my child be dead or worse rather than put a murderer in jail.
This is the "sick" mind of the right wing at work in America!
Question: why would the right wing defend Mr. Zimmerman, who after all, is a registered democrat and a hispanic? Blacks shoot Hispanic's all the time in L.A. and S.F. And conversely, Hispanic's shoot Blacks in those cities as well. Brown on black crime, black on brown crime, brown on brown crime, and black on black crime happens everyday. Why is this case any different?
More stereotype on a human just not color people have to understand that under our skin we all the same ...america do the right thing this is a change for everyone what about the next time it's you child shoot dead for nothing because he wearing a hood jacket
Didn't this "child" beat up Mr. Zimmerman? According to an independent witness, he did. So, to say he is dead "for nothing more than wearing a hoody" is disingenuous, at the very least.
Zimmerman is a democrat. He also is Hispanic. This is according to his voter registration form.
Those of you who have convicted Mr. Zimmerman of a crime, in the court of public opinion, should be ashamed of yourselves.
Have we forgotten the Jim Crow era, with courts making decisions based on the race of the defendants, rather than the facts of the case? That is part of the past that we need to leave in the past, not resurrect it under new racial management.
Funny how it seems to be the democrats who seem intent on resurrecting their hateful Jim Crowe type of politics. I guess the democrats are pining for their racist ways of old, you know, like when they supported Jim Crowe laws, segregation and other racist nonsense.
