State Sen. Pam Galloway announced Friday she will resign from office.
Wisconsin Sen. Pam Galloway, one of four GOP state senators facing recall elections, said today she's resigning to deal with health issues in her family, effective at midnight.
The recall elections were prompted by the lawmakers' support for a law that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers.
A spokesman for Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says Galloway's resignation has nothing to do with the recall election. He said her family has been dealing with a health issue for a few months.
Galloway's departure will leave the state Senate with an even 16-16 split between Republicans and Democrats, although the Senate wrapped up its legislative session yesterday and isn't scheduled to reconvene again this year.
Meantime, Fitzgerald, who is also facing recall, and Democrat Mark Miller, the minority leader, will lead the chamber together. However, there is no precedent for breaking a tie in the Wisconsin Senate. Committee rosters will be changed to be equally divided.
The recall election against Galloway will still move forward but her name won't appear on the ballot, said Reid Magney, a spokesman for the Government Accountability Board.
Democratic state Rep. Donna Seidel had already said she would challenge Galloway in a recall election, preliminarily scheduled for May 8 (unless more than one candidate runs from one party, then the May 8 vote would become a primary and the general election would be held on June 5).
"It doesn't change my plans," Seidel said of Galloway's planned resignation.
The other two senators facing recall are Terry Moulton and Van Wanggaard. The GAB has until March 30 to review signatures on recall petitions against Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.

Win, Wisconsin......march in that democratic replacement. Or does scott get to assign a sub?
If Governor Walker assigns a replacement, that replacement would NOT be subject to recall...
Does anybody else smell a rat here? If the other GOP State Senators being recalled resign, for whatever reason, Walker can repopulate the Senate and keep it under his control...
How do you know this?
That is what I wanted to know? Yep, you let the cat out of the bag and that rat smells tasty.
According to the Wisconsin State Constitution, public officials cannot be recalled until they have spent a year in office... That is why Governor Walker could not be recalled until a year after his inauguration... The Senators now under recall came in in the same elecyion he did...
@David - That didn't answer the questions above concerning how you came to your conclusion about Walkers intent/ability to replace Wisconsin State Senators. The Constitution for the State of Wisconsin doesn't provide such powers to the Governor, near as I can tell. According to Article IV, Section 14 of that document, vacancies are filled after the Governor issues a Writ of Election, meaning that they must hold a special election for the office. Walker doesn't get to just assign a replacement with whomever he chooses.
Please note... In my first comment, I said, IF Governor Walker selects a replacement... I was unaware of the actual law for replacement... Some states do allow for replacement appointments...
Now that you make me aware of the situation, I woukd assume the vacancy election will be included in the recall election...
Duely noted. Happy to help.
Walker will not, cannot appoint a replacement for Galloway. If a special election were not coming up, he would have to call one for a replacement. Walker cannot just appoint a replacement. I'm surprised the repub/tparty didn't change that too.
What a week. The Judge said, "unconstitutional" on the voter ID. Now we're waiting to hear on the redistricting. In any event, at 16-16 in the state senate, WI looks great. We're back to decency in WI government.
Now to cream the other repub/tparty state govs. Which reminds me, there's a petition to get the medical professionals working with women to put the repub/tparty in their place, away from our privates. Please check out:

Will somebody *please* address this? Texas Governor Rick Perry has just pushed Medicaid for women's health out of Texas...
A US Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson told reporters on Thursday that the Obama administration's hands are tied on the issue. “Medicaid law is very clear; a state may not restrict patients’ choice of providers of services like mammograms and other cancer screenings, if those providers are qualified to deliver care covered by Medicaid. Patients, not state government officials, should be able to choose the doctors and other health care providers that are best for them and their families. In 2005, Texas requested this same authority to restrict patients’ choices, and the Bush Administration did not grant it to them either.

TopicNumb, this is your teabagger ass@#$! at work. If the reichwingnuts ever got control of the whitehouse, senate and HR, this is what our country would look like. And to answer your question there's not alot that can be done. This is teabagger heaven. I was ashamed of our imbecile govenor, now I'm ashamed of the hole damn state.
It is time that we request that the benfits state and federal official are getting. People are losing their jobs because states have to cut budgets, but no mention of cutting the things these officials enjoy at the tax payers expense. I believe there should be a change that anyone in the federal or state senate or congress needs to serve at least 20 years to collect a retierment, be at least 55 and only get 50% of their salary instead of the upward to 85%.
with how the gop has been attacking anything and everything shows that theyre falling apart
wasnt it the same when Obama ran..and still is now? thats elections..attack what the other side proposes..too bad neither side can get it right
Right because when one party controls both houses the party that is the minority is helpless. Since 1970 the GOP has been proven wrong funny how from 1940 to 1970 escapes your notice as well as things were alright until 1970 and the GOP started doing things their way. Wanna bet you are a RP supporter.
The repub/tparty is following orders. ALEC.
Which, btw, might be something we have to settle with our incoming Democratics. Landrieu, D-LA, is sending a bill that will reduce the amount the health insurers should rebate, under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). She'll be reducing the amount by a few million, something about the insurers adding other costs to the 'administration' costs mandated in the ACA. It's okay to send her an email that you're displeased. Why do Democratics have to go off on their own? They need a lesson.
Well I guess that's one down. With the Governor's clear legal troubles this may not be the first obama style(unnecessarily preemptive) surrender. This is looking good for Scott Walker.
She's resigning so she can say she wasn't recalled.
It's going to fool everybody.
By resigning, she can keep her pension and medical insurance. If recalled she's lose both.
They didn't mind taking the teacher, firefigters, police, and public employees medical insurance and pensions. Why shouldn't she lose hers
Jesus Christ.
Republicans. Sneaky to the end.
She must have been pretty certain she was going to be recalled.
Bodes well.
Worked for John Enisgn so why not THIS liar? I have never been SO ashamed of my state in all my life as I have been in the whole YEAR leading up to the 2010 midterms and how enough got suckered into the "propaganda and toxic tea". Look at alll the states that did and they're ALL regretting it with the sick laws being passed w/o impunity and what this rotten 112th CONGRESS has been obsessed with as it sure has not been "jobs". More like regulating vaginas , repealing everything and cut, cut, cut except it benefits the RICH and OIL COMPANIES.
Walker and his bunch have been running on this playbook to the letter here in WI and we're dead LAST in job creation and our once GOOD schools will be at the bottom with MS, AL, TX and those pits too pretty soon too as well becoming a toxic waste dump full of dumb preggo teens and poorly paid workers w/o health insurance. Senator Hansen could'nt have been more right when he coined this the next "wississippi".
Hopefully in spite of all the draconian laws they're passing, we CAN get these rats OUT in JUNE!!
That's the word! "Draconian"

The Occupy Wall Street movement cost the NYPD $17 million in overtime — half the total increase in the force’s OT budget over the past year, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday at a City Council budget hearing.
Stay on TOPIC why don't you for a change?
I guess JPMorgan will have to up their donation.
To Catch Up on the 500 Million that the Unions will be giving the Obama Campaign as a payback to Obamas giveaways to the unions
And these "giveaways" in question are...?
Where do these 'intellectuals' come from CC?
Perhaps they've imigrated from Newt Gingrich's moon colony.
oooh or this one has come back in time using a future time machine device...which knowing how the GOP feels about science is probably very, very, long distant future......and so they've come back in time to teach today's right wing drones how to take us back to the 19th century because they really. really want to do that........
Where's Buck Rodgers when you need him.
To infinity...and beyond!
President Obama's proposed budget would add $6.4 trillion to the nation's deficits over the next decade, according to a new analysis by the Congressional Budget Office.
A pittance! Good we won't run out of food stamps and we can have another war!Gotta do something with all that money after the BUSH TAX CUTS expires!
Which one of the leading Republican candidates has a plan that the CBO says won't add to the defecit and debt?
Answer:N/A, none. zero.
Well then, Peter, Congress better hurry up and raise taxes on everyone making over $1M, so we can have some loose change. And let's hit the oil subsidies for a cool few billion dollars. And any corporation overseas intending to sell in the U.S. better cough up a few million bucks. And let's see......
You commented for me CynicalCitizen...and earthgirl - Thank you. Republicans can only attack, they never compare ideologies...only negative Republican spin.
Oil companies are pumping us dry on Gov't lands and sending it to China! So I guess they are storing it for a rainy day! So when its all gone the BIG oil companies can sell it back to us latter! Its the BIGGEST SHELL GAME in the world! Thanks GOP!
Thats why we should just have the government drill for the oil on public lands and sell it on the market at whatever price is needed for them to break even and not for profit. That would send the price way down and help make us actually energy independent.
But of course the oil companies would tell the GOP to call it a stalinist rape of the free market and obstruct it
Exactly the reason to do it!
Reports show that fewer than 7 percent of Obama’s 2008 donors renewed their support in the first quarter of his re-election campaign.
Guess you righties can't claim he's getting all this money from unions and wall street then doesn't it.......
CC: If Peter didn't want it both ways, he wouldn't be much of a repub/tparty. The repub/tparty never make much sense. Smaller government but more government control, no abortion but no contraceptives, cut spending but increase subsidies, yadda yadda.
Or, with the resignation of the republican senator that means the republicans will need a primary to select another candidate for his seat. This would extend the elections once again. I hope everyone is getting an eye full of republicanism. November is coming quickly.
Today the truth came out that Unions lied about the actual number of recall signatures. Not that should be a surprise to anyone.
When did this happen? What in your source of info? I can't find any credible indication of that anywhere of this, though I have had to check a number of blog posts that mistrust the Government accountability boards honesty in verifying the number of signatures that actually qualify as valid for the count.
The fact is the results have not yet been filed, though it certainly appears as if the number of verifiable signatures will be well above the required amount. There are always some bogus signatures on petitions, so they do take time to verify that enough real signatures have been collected. They are under no obligation to check every name, however. They will probably stop working on it once they verify the required goal is met (saves government money - since that is really all that matters and verifying every signature would cost double the man-hours).
Of course you can't find the evidence you're a follower of the "liberal media"...or more likely because the event in question never really happend.....
So that's a lie. The recall date was scheduled yesterday for June, it is too late to invalidate the tens of thousands of signatures they would need to lose to stop the recall. They have had hundreds of thousands of signatures, you will never invalidate enough you and Scott Walker will not avoid this election.
Today Mr. Obama is a failed President(loses in november/who ever you are this month) lied about the actual events on the Scott Walker recall. Not like that should be a surprise to anyone.
It's funny that the wingnuts actually waste the time to post misinformation like this crap on these blogs. The kind of people who comment here are far to sharp to fall for it. Don't they realize how easy it is to catch them?
Just remember that many right wingers suffer from a reality optional world view, so choose what they want to believe regardless of the science. The righties think that Obama is dividing the country and thus the people are in love with everything the republicans are doing......except they aren't.......
the only people that far right drones believe are americans are those that agree with them only and that all others are not "true americans".
They have a problem believing that everyone does not agree with them. They are so sure they are right.....they are only right winged, not correct in what they believe.
Using his nick as a flag, is one reason his case here will not hold any truth.
Hey everybody, has anyone checked what her "benefits" from the government would be?, "resignation" vs, recalled (aka) "fired"?
Good question vet 2640, I wonder what the answer is.
Has anyone checked their autoloader?
