The Republican war on women is expanding to utterly ridiculous levels in Arizona.
The state's Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-2 Monday for a bill that would allow Arizona employers the right to deny health insurance coverage for contraceptives based on religious objections.
Arizona House Bill 2625, authored by Majority Whip Debbie Lesko (R-Glendale), would allow your boss to ask for proof that you're seeking contraceptives for non-sexual, non-reproductive purposes, such as hormone control or acne treatment.
"We don’t live in the Soviet Union," Lesko said. "So, government should not be telling the organizations or mom and pop employers to do something against their moral beliefs."
The bill is patterned after the Blunt Amendment that failed to pass through the U.S. Congress on March 1, but only worse.
That's because Arizona is an "at-will" employment state, some are saying this amounts to a bill giving employers license to fire their employees for using birth control and/or for refusing to disclose the reasons for using birth control.

It is totally ludicrous that employers control anything about your Health Ins. There should be a movement to make health insurance as available as auto and homeowners insurance. You make the decisions on what you want and what you can pay and to what company. Take away the control and backroom deals they put together with employers. I will stand shoulder to shoulder with any American who wants to start this movement!
I cannot believe that a legislator would compare the covering of birth control, to the Soviet Union. The peopl in the Soviet Union have basic health care. Heck these people talk about the extreme need to stomp out socialism and reinstate religious values their values. Individual opinions and beliefs do not count unless you agree with them. Now if I am mistaken isn't what they are advocating and trying to push thru the legislative system more like communism where the government makes decisions for you instead of the individual making their own decisions. The reason that they are going after womens health is because they believe that they have won the moral argument on abortion so they and go even further and enter into every one's bedroom. This seems to me to be more like a police state idea.
Actually, in an "at-will" employment state, an employer can fire an employee for any reason, or for no reason at all, so long as the reason does not violate an anti-discrimination statute, or the employee does not have contractual rights.
The current law in Arizona requires contraception to be covered by insurance. Lesko's bill repeals this. It also repeals the section that reads: "A religious employer shall not discriminate against an employee who independently chooses to obtain inusance coverage or prescriptions for contraceptive from another source."
In other words, an employer can ask if you use contraception, and apparently fire you if you do.
This same law has been in effect in Arizona for 10 years, and it's never been a problem before. No protests from churches, no protests from the public, no complaints at all. Lesko, and the GOP in general, is once again finding a solution for a problem that does not exist.
I'd also like to 'wipe the smile off Debbie Lesko's face.' Hopefully the voters will do just that.

Its another way for insurance companies as it will force people to buy their own at a much higher rate, group rates are much lower. Its a choice between work and sex? Our rights are under attack and it seems they will stop at nothing!

I saw that show on Nat Geo about helping with infertility problems. She and her husband never had any children. A fertility doctor helped them out as their laws and culture support it. She was 70 years old, I believe. Her husband was in his 80's.
There are 2 others who have given birth at 70 in India. One had twins in 2008.
They have all saved up and used their life savings to be parents.
A 67 year old woman in Spain also had twins in 2006.

On the power of the military thing I like that Mitt claims to want to cut spending yet expend that military which last I checked doesn't work for free.......but I guess we can't expect Mitt to know since there's no one in his close family who has served. See, I was always confused because they would pass regs which made it frowned upon to do things like a top level CEO having sex with a low level staffer or intern- yet they would support fully someone like Clinton- as he, being one of the most powerful men in the world had his way with an intern- and quite a few others- then destroyed their already soiled reputations to protect him.

Everyone calm down--if this bill becomes law, be sure it will head straight for the courts, and ultimately SCOTUS, the GOP's ultimate goal. Both to shoot down Obamacare (which I think is doomed anyway) and Roe v. Wade. They deliberately pass these extremist bills knowing damn well they will be challenged in court. That's the whole object of the game. However, I can't but think of the many, many women who would die needlessly of breast and cervical cancers because they would be denied access to life-saving mammograms and pap tests. (because they are uninsured and can't pay for them) There will be blood on some people's hands--including Mitt Romney's!
We need to start a movement to remove control of your Health Insurance from the employer and make it available the same way auto and homeowner insurance is sold. That will solve all the issues. You get to structure your coverage to what you need or can afford and the employer loses his control and doesn't have to insert his religious or political beliefs. Let's get this started!
