In "unearthing" a video of President Obama from his college days, conservative pundits are casting the president off as being "racially divisive" and stirring "class warfare" since he was young. NOW's Alex Wagner has a different take on the tapes, saying that they, if anything, show off Obama's consistencies on the issues he is passionate about.
Fox News' Sean Hannity and his buddies from the Breitbart smear machine promised a "bombshell" about President Obama on the Hannity show last night, but all they gave us was a big dud.
They shared a video from 1990 that shows then-Harvard Law School student Barack Obama praising and hugging the late "radical" Derrick Bell, the first tenured African-American professor of law at Harvard University, at a rally.

PBS obtained the entire video, which was shot and produced in 1990 by local Boston news station, WGBH. The station was reporting on Harvard's minority hiring record.
Bell was also a pioneer of Critical Race Theory (CRT), which Breitbart.com’s Editor-In-Chief Joel Pollak says promotes the view that the "African-American Civil Rights movement essentially was a sham because white supremacy remains the system and we've got to transform that system radically in order to get rid of racism."
In other words, the Breitbart robot claims the "Jeremiah Wright of academia" believed the Civil Rights movement was a failure because the American system is rigged for white people, so the system itself must be replaced in order to wipe out racism.
Bell's 2011 New York Times obituary, CRT was described as "a body of legal scholarship that explored how racism is embedded in laws and legal institutions, even many of those intended to redress past injustices."
Derrick Bell, the civil rights scholar who was the first tenured black professor at Harvard Law School, has died. He was 80 years old. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

Yes, many mainstream legal scholars have criticized CRT on a number of grounds (and there's no evidence that Obama embraced it), but there's no indication that Bell thought the Civil Rights Movement was a sham or that he advocated that the Constitution or current American system of government be replaced.
He simply wanted to us to look at how racism is embedded in laws and legal institutions.

do some research on the "flip" that happened in the 1960's during the civil rights movement when President Johnson signed the "civil rights act" into law.
all the southern democrats hated what Johnson did, and they switched parties to become repubs.
do some reasearch on why the repub party was started. they started in 1865 (?), to end slavery. the KKK that you mention above, might have been democrats, but they didn't like african americans having civil rights, so they flipped, and became repubs.

According to him....the price IS effected by supply and demand economics and increasing the supply by releasing the strategic oil reserves would lower the price....I thought we had an oil glut and oil prices are not subject to supply and demand economics.

Hey Cynical....I know that supply and demand is only a part of the problem....However, it is a part that we can do something about....domestic production is up due to policies that were put into place before Obama took office. It's a good thing these policies were in place or we would be looking at even higher prices....the value of the dollar plays a role and yes speculators also have a role in the price.

And how do you "lose" money with over $50profits? Regaurdless of why, they did and that caused a lower supply. Oil production in this country is higher than in the last 10 yrs. Consumption is lowest in 3 yrs. Oil companies and speculaters drive the price.
Oil consumption is down for two factors that over 10% of the Americans do not get up every day and drive to work = less gas consumed. The weather in America has led to less home heating oil used and the amount of oil produced in this country is coming from private investment on their own land. The federal land which also includes coastal waterways is down from 4 years ago. All the new drilling is due to permits that were submitted in the past 4 years. Even if you dont believe the permit issue I address you can admit that we are using less home heating oil and less gas.

excellent info, chris. i am aware of these issues as i am a member of the nrdc. so much going on with these problems. i think a lot of people (because of repub propaganda) are not aware of the consequences to wild life and the eco system. there has got to be other ways to remedy these issues.

everything is contaminated, ESPECIALLY THE WATER. what good is oil if we don't have water, and if everyone who lives in the area where they frack gets sick?

But- Obama is now celebrating the jobs that are coming from the building of the lower part of the pipeline- later in the press release, he stated he was wanting to work with the TransCanada to get the tar sands oil to the Gulf. I will be curious as to how you Obama apologists will spin this to show that he is really being consistent.

I enjoyed watching this video and there is nothing but the potential of just how great a speaker that President Obama has always been in every word he spoke. Obama was skinny but was standing up for this professor and the crowd were also standing up for this professor who is no longer living but was the first black tenured professor at Harvard.
