During President Obama's first news conference of 2012 today, he answered questions on why he made a phone call to support Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, the role of debate in democracy and whether or not he agrees with DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz about the GOP waging "war against women."
Obama said he called Fluke, who was labeled a "slut" by radio host Rush Limbaugh, because he doesn't want people who speak their mind about policy issues to be discouraged or attacked.
Limbaugh apologized to Fluke, saying he shouldn't have used the language he did and it was wrong.
Asked to comment on Limbaugh's apology, Obama said he doesn't know "what's in Rush Limbaugh's heart," but said that such remarks "don't have any place" in public discourse.
Obama said the incident made him think of his two daughters and his hopes that they can engage in issues they care about in the future.
Obama said he doesn't want his daughters "attacked or called horrible names" for speaking their minds and being good citizens.

Rush Limbaugh did not bother listening to Sandra Fluke's testimony, he assumed she was going to be asking Congress for free contraceptives fom the Catholic church, which was nowhere near to the truth... He not only slandered her on the air FOR THREE STRIGHT DAYS, calling her a 'slut' and a 'prostitute', he openly accused her of asking for free contraceptives so she could have 'care-free sex' for days on end (totally contrary to why she was testifying) and suggested she tape herself having all this great sex and put the videos on the Internet so he and others 'paying for it' could wank themselves off to it!
After he started to get pressure from his advertisers fleeing him in droves, he apologized to her for using 'those two words' to refer to her. He did NOT apologize for mistaking the message of her testimony. He did NOT apologize for maligning her character, only for using 'those two words'... he did NOT apologize for calling her a 'feminazi'... He did NOT apologize for saying she would use her 'free birth control' for unlimited care-free sex. He did NOT apologize for asking her to post porn videos online. He did NOT apologize for saying her parents should be ashamed of her...
After 'apologizing' for using 'those two words' to describe her, he then accused her of being part of a left-wing conspiracy to pull him down, repeating calling her a 'feminazi'... He further accused her of using this whole 'made-up' controversy to destroy him...

Yes we do have a CLASSY president, unlike these blowhards running; makes me shiver to think. How embarrassing to be a republican with the likes who are running. It's been a struggle for women and as it was shown with Limbaugh's poor example, it sometimes still is. I was not forced to join into a union, nor was I intimidated to. More than once, have workers been backed into corners by companies! Unions came about to ensure safety for workers and care with companies. I am grateful to unions and in being a member of a union. In years past, a woman's place was not seen in factory work much less outside the home. Collective Bargaining has done much! The show is recorded (sustained) but is spoken (transient).
Libel needs to be included with slander because spoken statements that have been recorded can be considered either "transient" or "sustained" depending upon the venue.
Leaving out one of the claims would weaken the judgement, especially if studio witnesses are called to testify regarding intent so that the recordings can be placed in the proper context.
He could claim he is not responsible because of a mental defect or disorder.

Let me help you out, my opinion of Rush Limbaugh differs from yours. They are our opinions, and both are just that, opinions. The difference is that I listen to Rush a lot more that most here, by their own admission. Therefore my take should have more credence, but it is still only an opinion.
BTW, listening to someone doesn't necessarily mean you agree with them. I enjoy hearing Bill Maher's rants but (almost completely) disagree with him. I like listening to and hearing Obama's speeches, but like most people now, can see it's just empty talk as his talk doesn't match his walk. Whether that is competence or conviction is again, opinion.

Ms. Fluke can go to the local public health clinic and get free contraception at no cost. This is true in over 70% of the counties in this country and has been for almost 30 years.

The bad thing is that when a person pays for health insurance, the religous institution that provides access for the policy can dictate a prescription that will or will be allowed and dump the responsibilty on the insurance company. I do not agree with this compromise.

Democrats voted today also in Ohio....Obama won.

For no discernible reason, the Obama administration has decreed that all contraceptives must be provided “free” to those who want them (which of course means that everyone else’s insurance rates must rise).
The administration demands this despite the fact that:
1) most Americans can well afford their own contraception (it’s less than the cost of a weekly trip to Starbucks);
2) inexpensive contraceptives are widely available at every supermarket and pharmacy;
3) Medicaid recipients already receive them free;
4) the feds also spend another $300 million annually to provide free contraceptives to those who are low-income, uninsured, or otherwise do not qualify for Medicaid; and
5) Planned Parenthood and state and local public health clinics distribute contraceptives free around the nation.
That even Catholic institutions, who object to this command on religious grounds, are to be bullied by the federal government into violating their consciences, ought to have provoked an outcry from liberals, allegedly firm guardians of the First Amendment.
Instead, a compliant media has peddled the narrative of a supposed Republican “war on women.”
Of course there is no Republican “war on women.”
But there is a Democratic war on religious liberty, taxpayers, and common sense.
