Rush Limbaugh is being abandoned by advertisers, but he's still attacking a 30-year-old woman for testimony she gave regarding contraception services. Rev. Al Sharpton talks with Ed Schultz about whether this is the beginning of the end for El Rushbo (Mar 2, 2012).
BREAKING: Radio host Rush Limbaugh has apologized to a Georgetown University law student for calling her insulting names, The Associated Press reports. He had come under intense criticism from womens' groups, politicians from both political parties and some of the advertisers on his talk show.
Limbaugh said today on his website that he had chosen the wrong words in his comments about law student Sandra Fluke. He said he "did not intend a personal attack" on her, adding that in an "attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize."
Limbaugh had called her a "prostitute" and a "slut" after she testified before Congress about a need for insurance coverage for birth control. President Barack Obama had telephoned Fluke on Friday to express his support.

Ms Fluke represented the millions of women who needed to take Birth Control Pills for HEALTH reasons. They cure the problem mentioned in the bible (Mark 5:25) as well as contraception.
Those pills save the lives of millions of us and should be covered by any health insurance policy. I could afford to pay for them out of pocket but I should not have had to do so since I would had died without them.

You know, just because a medication is covered by insurance doesn't mean that it is totally free. The coverage can mean that it is attainable, however, which can mean the difference in life quality, or even between life and death in some circumstances. Sheryl, The CDC reports that 98% of women have used contraception prior to Obama Care. That report would lead a prudent person to believe that there historically been no problem with availability or for that matter a women's ability to pay for the contraception or receive it at no cost. I have medical insurance that I pay not only a monthly premeum but copays for doctor appointments, emergency room visits, hospital stays, and medications. Why should one specific medication, contraception be free while all others are not?

Many if not most existing Health Care Insurance Plans have premiums and copays. Copays are often paid for prescriptions. For example I pay a minimum of $20.00 for every prescription drug. Perhaps you can answer my question. What authority does the Federal Government have to mandate a service provider, in this case an insurance company, to provide a free service? Do you know of any existing government mandate for a private business to provide a free service or product? As much as i hate to say it insurance is a regulated industry in every sTate and the states do mandate coverages in some cases. what is new is federal mandates to what is a state issue. For example in my state an car insurance company must carry certain minimums. What is not part of OURr tradition is mandating a company to provide something at their own cost. this is not BC it is BS

They're not giving out anything for free, no co-pay and free are not the same thing. Cynical and thoughtful, I understand insurance companies are regulated by the states and that the individual states mandate the Health Insurance Plans must contain specific coverage. I have no problem with that, but I do have a problem with regulations that mandate coverage at no charge to the user. Like I said I pay a monthly premium for coverage. The customer may not have a copay but their premium will go up. The employer's premium or contrabution to the employee's plan will also go up and as such the church ends up paying for the contraception anyway. Am I wrong?

Cynical, In an employer provided health care program both the employer and the employee contribute, unless of course if a public sector union is involved. That said if the premiums go up both the employee and the employer are paying for the service.
As for the church already paying for contraception, that has always been their decision, and their decision alone. Now we have the Federal Government making the decisions for the church. A church has always been in the position to provide or not provide health care coverage to employees, that is no longer the case with Obama Care. A church was also free to decide if plans provided included contraception. That too is no longer the case, because of Federal Mandates.
As for homosexual practices, I do not condone them.
So let me get this straight the church can choose to do it but when the federal government says that have to do what they're already doing it's still a religious objection? I actually saw the entire testimony as i have s-span on all day and it came on and i watched it . She got many clearly leading questions designed to have her answer a certain way. The bulk of her testimony was aimed at the cost roughly 3 grand for a law students three years as being a hardship on already financially stressed students. You have mis-characterized her testimony She made an anecdotal reference to an acquaintance who had a medical problem i believe with fibroid tumors but but that was not her main pitch. Also she is a thirty year old woman not a college girl as some would have us believe Also she is two months away from graduation an will be a full blown lawyer at that time. She brought absolutely no technical expertise to the debate like say a gynecologist would. She was voicing her opinion as a representative of law school females which was her only qualification.

i hope you notice that you and other bagger/repubs on this blog see it one way, and one way only. you are looking at her statement in a way that is ADVANTAGEOUS to your point of view. you might have seen or heard her statement in regard to her gay friend as losing an ovary as "anecdotal", but most people see that as being the core part of her testimony, the basis for which the rest followed. clearly, this was only one part of her testimony, but her very strong point was this: her friend is gay and does not need birth control to prevent pregnancy, and MILLIONS of women use contraception for CYCTS, and other female reproductive health conditions, like her GAY friend had. the bottom line is this: if her friend would have had the $3,000.00 to pay for her treatment for the cyst, she would have done so, and would still have her ovary. since her insurance didn't cover her TREATMENT medication, she lost an ovary.

I did not read her testimony I watched it you must have seen the video that she made while not under questioning. look up the meaning of the the word anecdotal and you will find i used it correctly. Also in my post i made a distinction between those who need hormonal medicine for a medical problem. Being fertile is not a medical problem Most of her testimony was about the financial hardship of having to pay a grand a year for BC particularly while in school. She was asked leading questions by Pelosi that almost put the words in her mouth,. Go to Cspan and watch the actual testimony from to back like i did. I would rather hear a gynecologist from the NIH testify about real non anecdotal data that is relevant. If a woman needs hormonal therapy for a medical condition even you can understand that is different than a college student wanting free coverage for lifestyle choices. They are different issues. That is why i suggested testimony for accredited advocates rather than a kid who wants free birth control i watched d the entire testimony and it was rife with anecdotal references that would not have been allowed in your nursing training. I called for provable stats as someone credentialed on your side could provide and with credibility that this girl does not have. For example if a member of the NIH who held the same view as you do but had proven scientific studies they would not be able to be attacked as this kid. Wanting something for nothing by a college kid is hardly reason to provide it. Too bad you can't see this obvious distinction. Also a person with actual credentials would not have been barred as this college girl was as there would be no grounds to bar the testimony of an expert. .

part of the reason for that is because THE REPUBS DID NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF BIRTH CONTROL. the repubs are only looking at this in ONE WAY, as we heard from the leader of the repub party, rush limbaugh. they are "framing" this conversation as ALL WOMEN WHO USE BIRTH CONTROL WANT IT FOR THEIR SLUT-INESS, which fits right in with repubs argument that women are only having 2.5 children per god given uterus.
to repubs, women should only have sex for purposes of creation, for getting pregnant. they believe, as rick santorum has said repeatedly, that birth control contributes to the SLUT-INESS of american women. they believe that birth control has given women too much freedom, and the ability to control their own bodies. they want women to act and believe AS REPUBS WANT THEM TO DO. they are trying to force their narrow-minded views on ALL WOMEN.
how do you know what was allowed in my nurses training? much of what Fluke said, i experienced THROUGH THE CARE OF MY PATIENTS in nursing school and beyond. one cannot control the health issues of patients we care for. if i were to respond as a nurse to my patients the way you all respond to contraception or abortion, i wouldn't be giving very good care, dragging my judge-mentalness in every room like a bowling ball around my ankle. as a nurse, i do many things that aren't pleasing to me, but patients deserve care without judgement.
you are looking at this very narrowly, as it fits your republican ideal. for one, Ms. Fluke is a 30 year old woman, and has been an activist for the rights of women for years. just because she is a "college student", does not change the fact that she is also a woman with the same needs and concerns as any other 30 year old woman. you imply above, that because she is a "college kid", she should not expect to be treated fairly, and that attacks from limbaugh should be commonplace, and accepted, BECAUSE SHE SPEAKS ALOUD FOR ALL WOMEN.

Didn't sound like much of an apology, at least not what I read. He said he apologized to her, but then went on to defend his position which is based on false interpretations of Ms Fluke's testimony. she was NOT saying that taxpayers should pay for contraceptives - she merely relayed a story of a friend who needed the hormonal medication in order to treat a reproductive system issue and that that should have been covered by the University's health insurance policy!! that's all!
I say we keep pressuring his advertisers and boycott those who continue to fund his lies. Besides, has Limbaugh actually called Ms Fluke and apologized personally? (Like Ed did) or does he think simply putting something on his website is enough? (It's not)
Christine, I am with you. This is one in a very long line of despicable diarrhea of the mouth from Rush! His radio talk is heard by young and old. I won't listen to it and everyone who dose"nt is a protest in own right. I was brought up with respect and its time we stand firm on it. When we lower the bar, well it just sinks further in the mud.
