I know what is happening. I used to own a car wash with eight gas pumps, and I had tied gas price for a gallon with car wash. I had only $0.05 per gallon over my cost, and when gas shortage occured , (It was phony)I did not raise my price along with other stations, and the local association complained to supplier and cut my quota by 75%! Well, I was stubborn and decided to stop selling gas altogether. I was selling 20,000-25,000 gallons per week, so the supplier told me not to do that, and they will reimburse the increase in price! I asked "What about customers?" Answer was don't worry about them, make money while you can! I did not comply, and they cut off my supply by 100%.My customers knew and never stopped coming back to my business. This is how the dealers, suppliers, and major distributors work. A tip, buy gas in the cold temp. because when the temp. rises, the gas expands and you get less gas per gallon. just compare your mileage after cold time purchase against hot day purchase. You will see up to 10% difference. I am an engineer, so I know all this too.

MAC, This is incredible informative post! How do they sleep at night? They alone have stopped this country from having a mass transit system . We could be independent from big oil!
Tip #2:When you pump it don't stop at even dollars go past the last 9/10s and stop before it turns over. Than shut off the pump and give the nozzle one last squeeze for the pressure that's left in the hose, you paid for it so its yours! Happy motoring!

This is the only thing the Republicans can hang their hats on, the women are putting them in their place on the other issue. Oil has had too much control of this country, its time someone puts them in place. We are paying high prices for a product we have to add additives to in order for it to work properly. And profits are going out of sight.

Gas price were I live is $2.96 for reg unleaded. Cheaper then a gallon of milk.

Republicans don't give a big rats $$$ about American workers. They are forcing the Postal Service to eliminate between 27,000 /30,000 postal jobs in southeast United States.
While forcing them to fund pensions 10 years in advance.
Everybody write your senators and reps in congress demanding that they support the post office and postal workers. Whatever happens, let them know you are watching and you support your post offices.

They went to get President Obama out of the White House by any means neccesary. So they call on their buddies and gas goes up and it doesn't matter to them how this impacts the lifes of people of a country that they say that they love. Their hate for him is greater than their love of country.

The only reason they're ratings might be lower is MSNBC does not come on basic cable but it sure comes with Faux news. People only watch Faux news to hear the "lies o' the day".
Even with this, MSNBC viewers are more informed...

There are several reasons the e-c-o-n-o-m-y is screwed up but that's not one of them. Heard of CMO's? Banks lend money to home buyers, then sell pools of the mortgages as securities. (This, BTW, is what happens when you repeal Glass-Steagall.) Poof! you just SOLD YOUR RISK! Who wouldn't lend to anyone with this kind of deal?

The oil companies want Obama out and a Republican in. They are raising gas prices to make it look like Obama's fault--and hoping Americans will blame him and vote Republican. They will do anything, including victimizing all Americans and wrecking our economy to get their Republican candidate elected. Reprehensible---criminal conduct!

I think the justice dept needs to raid the koch brothers offices and show the american people what these rich bastards are doing to this country, and what republicans stand up for. You know they're getting a lot richer with the gas prices going up.
Senate Republicans introduced legislation that would bar the Obama administration from using the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve unless the Keystone XL pipeline is approved. The oil reserve can be used to stabilize price, but the Republicans want to prevent President Obama from having this option. They have an agenda to defeat Obama at any cost to the nation (remember they caused our loss of a AAA credit rating). They also want to help oil companies make as much money as they can while paying no taxes - and giving the oil companies our tax dollars in assistance they don't need. It's time to vote out these selfish Republicans.

Well considering oil is currently $106 a barrel which should make gas cheaper than it has been in years, I think the Repubs who own the oil companies are deliberately raising gas prices just to hurt Obama even if it hurts us they don't care.
Of course they are. This is the right's last, best chance at spiking the recovery- and I have no doubt that at least some of the speculation is cynically driven by some very high octane malice. The irony of the whole mess: Iran's idiocy could put someone in the Oval Office that will let Israel off the leash and, afterwards, wipe their hands of any fallout- and I use term "fallout" quite literally....
